Democratic Primaries: Too Close To Call

(CNNN=Rio Irkawa) Primaries to select next Democratic nominee for the President finally ended in April 3220. Primaries result showed that former Prime Minister Edward Scally was front runner, while former Governor of Irkawa Roy Wallender and Floor Leader Julia Kenwall followed his back. Edward Scally served as Prime Minister under Kildon Administration and Minister of Justice with President Quincy. While 79 years old man won two state primary, former Governor won also two state. This is quite interesting, that no one expected several victories of former governor from Irkawa. Roy Wallender was elected as member of National Assembly twice in 389th and 390th, served as Governor of Irkawa during second term fo President Kildon. Julia Kenwall is not seemed to win the nominee, but she is willing to remain in the ballot of DNC which will be held in Lochshire. Primary results are still too close to call.

Democratic National Convention Held in Lochshire

(CNNN=Lochshire) Democrats across the nations gathered in Lochshire. After two month of Primaries, each state sent delegation to the convention to select next presidential nominee. Current front runner seemed to be former Prime Minister Edward Scally, followed by former Govenor of Irkawa Roy Wallender and Floor Leader Julia Kenwall. Prime Minister Scally emphasized his career and experience while Floor Leader Kenwall attacked him on his age. In his age of 79, Edward Scally is looked fine, but worries didn't go away. Governor from Irkawa repeatedely talked about future and appealed delegations about his agenda.
First round was three way, Prime Minister Scally, Governor Wallender and Floor Leader Kenwall fought for their votes. Edward Scally led the group and Governor followed who get 42% and 39% of votes repectively. Julia Kenwall finally resigned her candidacy for the president, and Round two began after two hours. Most delegates who voted for Floor Leader sought their second choice, and they changed the game. When votes were counted for second round, Govenor Wallender took 52% of the votes, making him nominee for the President.
Governor Wallender said, 'We can achieve more than we can possibly imagine.' When he finally accepted the nomination, his supporters chanted and shouted for him, and Govenor shook hand with DNC chairman Robert Holly. Now he will be running for the presidency for a month.

1st Round
Edward Scally (42%)
Roy Wallender (39%)
Julia Kenwall (19%)

2nd Round
Roy Wallender (52%)
Edward Scally (48%)

New People's Party Sweeps Election

Yes, that glorious day of the election has come! And what a wise choice the Coburan people have made. A staggering four out of five of Cobura's States voted for the New People's Party, and the Party gained 213 seats - a share of 32%, larger than that of any other party! This is a clear endorsement of the NPP's policies. We here at the Nova Roma Bulletin believe that, in the face of such tremendous popular support, the other Coburan parties are now obligated to pursue closer relations with the NPP, including stronger government and a more aggressive military stance. Anything else would be painfully undemocratic.

A wonderful new day has dawned on Cobura, and we are one step - one big step - closer to that utopia called the Great New Society.

After the election result which brought the governing Party for Individualism down to 12,40% (50,80% in last election) the chairman and former President Alexander Svindal together with Prime Minister Lazareva invited to a press conference. Chairman Svindal showed to be disappointed by the results:

"Of course i'd expected a better voting result for the party and also for myself in the President elections, after the glorious triumph 4 years ago. Nevertheless the Party for Individualism still stays 3rd party in the assembly and i hope Prime Minister Lazareva will be able to make the best out of this result. I for myself will stand back in the coming 4 years and leave the stage to others."

However Svindal is willing to keep party-leadership, which he will perform from the background. Foreign Minister Kim Debkowski and Prime Minister Lazareva are said to become the new leading-figures in the public. Lazareva herself also commented on the election results:

"Our result may not be the best, but hey, it is not that worse either! The Party for Individualsim stays a strong voice in Cobura, in the national assembly and - i am confident about this - also in the next cabinet. Although we heavily lost votes and seats, i still feel the power and the passion to lead this nation forward, to build the coburan future and the next elections then again will be ours! I am glad our allies from the Labour Party could vastly expand their votes and i hope the cooperation, which was great in cabinet - i remember many laughes and serious, but also happy talks."

Asked on possible coalitions Lazareva wouldn't want to make a clear statement. All parties in the assembly were demcratically elected. Talks will have to show where most agreements can be reached.

Democratic Leadership Resign
Miserable Result for Democratic Party in 3220 General Election

(CNNN = Hudson) Leadership of Democratic Party was questioned after the election. Chairman of Democratic National Committee Robert Holly and Floor Leader Julia Kenwall were criticized for their incompetence and responsibility of the defeat. Democratic Party, which was largest opposing party is now one of the smallest party, holding 56 seats in the National Assembly. Leadership held press conference today and announced their resign. Congresswoman Julia Kenwall said, 'People have spoken. I know that Democratic Party wasn't first choice of the people in this election, but I believe that they will trust us again in future.' She resigned her office when she announced her candidacy for the presidential primary. On the other hand, Chairman Holly refused to talk about the lost of the election. He released short statement that he will retire from professional politics.
In the Democrat Caucas, Scott Eversman, Chairman of Egato Democratic Party assumed the Chairman of DNC. He was political commentor and then worked for Democratic Party since 3195. The office of Floor Leader was taken by Congressman from Irkawa, Norman Teryll. As young and successful engineer, he joined Democratic Party in 3216. He is seemed to be a young and fresh face of the Democratic Party. However, it is still unveiled that how new Democratic leadership will run the Party while it became a second smallest party. The result will be shown in 4 years.

United Front Coalition Comes to Power
Cosgrave to lead Government
Debkowski named Deputy Prime Minister

President Higgins welcomed his party colleague Enda Cosgrave to the Presidential Lodge in Hudson yesterday evening where Cosgrave and the rest of his cabinet formally began their terms of office following a dramatic vote of confidence in Parliament, which saw the main opposition put forward an alternative coalition only to see it rejected. The new government, which was opposed by all opposition parties and which leaves the two right-wing parties (NPP, NCC) in opposition, will have 5 Social Congress Ministers (incl. Cosgrave as Prime Minister), 3 Party for Individualism Ministers (incl. Kim Debkowski as Deputy PM), 3 Labour Party Ministers, and 2 Centre Party Ministers. It will control 362 seats in the National Assembly and a majority of 59.

Having voted four years ago to return to national politics, under the stewardship of Congress President (and now President of Cobura) Michael D. Higgins, the Social Congress has seen its influence in Cobura jump to a level not seen for 170 years. This can be seen most prevalently in the election of Social Congress President Michael D. Higgins as National President. Speaking last week immediately following his election, Higgins told news reporters that he would be putting his Presidency of the Congress on hiatus, and asking the national committee to extend his term until after his term as National President has finished. The role of Congress President will be filled by one of the Vice-Presidents in the mean time.

Cosgrave later addressed a crowd of supporters, "The election results represent the resounding willingness of the Coburan people to come together as a society, and in communities, to improve our lives and the lot of those who can't improve it themselves." When asked by a Hudsonian Congress Member about how Cosgrave could justify a coalition with those of the centre-right in the PfI, Cosgrave responded, "This is the government the people voted for. It isn't wholly left wing, but it is certainly left-leaning. The alternative would've been a coalition with the authoritarian New People's Party, something I - and the Congress membership - would not have the stomach for."

When asked about what agenda the government would follow, Cosgrave replied that his Government's programme would be one that both changed and protected Cobura's national institutions.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Kim Debkowski, of the Party for Individualism, said she welcomed the role in these troubled times, and the opportunity to contribute vitally to the welbeing of Cobura and all Majatra.

I'm Steve Banks, coming in from Cobura's most beautiful city! Stay tuned for an exciting hour at Eros Radio, as we'll be discussing the private life of First Lady Higgins, the newest and hottest Coburan films out there today, and Tokundburgh's recent power outages.

First, though, the Coburan Freedom Association has released a brand-new Democracy Report. For those of you who are new listeners, the Democracy Report is an annual listing of all of Terra's nations by measure of democratic freedom. We're a big fan of it here at Eros Radio, and I hope that you will be too. Here's the Report:

First Tier - Not Free
These states have one political party that holds 90-100% of the nation's power. Some have high degrees of civil rights, but are not politically free and have no real democracy.
This year the First Tier nations are:

Feline Homeland of Barmenia
Most Serene Cildanian Empire
Unholy Davostan Empire
Hobrazian People's Democratic Republic
Da Diguo Indrala (Great Empire of Indrala)
United States of Jelbania

Volksrepublik Dorvik
Free Gaduridos
Kundrati Union
United Republics of Lodamun
Repubblica Istaliana (Quanzar)
Saridani Union

Second Tier - Somewhat Free
These nations have two or more functional parties, but - except in rare circumstances - one holds most of the power.
This year's Second Tier nations are:

United Kingdom of Beiteynu and Jutridan
Kingdom of Dranland
Federal Republic of Egelion
United Jakania
Free and United Country of Kalistan
Republic of Kirlawa

These nations have at least three functional parties, but are monarchies. Citizens have democratic choice for the legislature and head of government, but cannot choose their head of state.
This year's Third Tier nations are:

Most Excellent and Serene Kingdom of Hutori
Imperia Narikaton/Darnussian Republic
Kongeriket Kazulia
Holy Luthori Empire

Fourth Tier - Free
These nations have at least three functional parties, and are not monarchies. Citizens have democratic choice in government.
This year's Fourth Tier nations are:

Democratic Republic of Aloria
People's Socialist Republic of Baltusia

And that's it! Tune in after the break, when we'll be discussing whether First Lady Higgins' new pet will be a parrot or a puppy!

*After the 3224 election, PfI-chairman Alexander Svindal and new Prime Minister Helena Lazareva, invited the press to a party conference. A serious matter should be discussed. Both step in front of the gathered journalist without any smiling. First Lazareva takes the word*

"First of all i would like to express how glad i am to again be standing on top of the Coburan government. The Party for Individualism is back and we are looking forward on working for our proud nation. Also i would like to thank the coburan people for giving this coalition their trust. Anyway we are here to talk about a sad chapter in the PfI-history. Evidence has gotten stronger, that the New Peoples Party intervened our party policy in a way, which is more than inconvenient. But for the details i leave the word to chairman Svindal"

*She steps back and for the first time she and Svindal hug each other in front of the press. Then the chairman takes the word*

"I'll keep it short. We already had suspects before the election and now in the months after we can be sure, that the NPP infiltrated the PfI election-tickets with own candidates. About 5-7 of PfI members in the assembly are accused to be NPP-sympathisants. Also other cases came to our attention on which members of the New Peoples Party voted irregularly on PfI-primaries which brought down strong and popular PfI-frontbenchers and led to weak candidates which then were defeated in the last election. Another accusation is about bribery directly from the NPP-leadership.
I herewith ask the NPP-leadership to take stand on this things. I, as chairman have evidence which proves this accustions and we will release our information, if no actions are taken by the NPP! So it is up to you!
Thank you and please note that we by now won't give any further information. Time will come.
"

*With this Lazareva and Svindal end the conference. Questions shall be answered when a statement from the New Peoples Party leadership has been done*

Nova Roma Bulletin
The People's Paper

Outrageous Individualist Slander Distributed

Is it not enough to vote against NPP proposals that the People clearly back? Is it not enough to conspire to exclude the People's Representatives from the Cabinet? The answer, evidently, is no. It is not enough for these weak Individualists. They must go on the offensive against the New People's Party, against the People themselves, to further their own dirty ambitions and satisfy their desire to see the People fail.

Alexander Svindal, Party for Individualism Chairman and former President, has been at the forefront of these accusations. In a recent press release, he wrongly accused the New People's Party of party raiding and bribery, saying that the PfI had been infiltrated by NPP members. This is, quite obviously to all who really understand Coburan politics, ludicrous. We here at the Nova Roma Bulletin strongly condemn such underhanded attempts to undermine the People.

When we asked for his thoughts on the matter, NPP Chairman Robert Franlow was shaken and visibly hurt. Here was not an aspiring dictator, as is so often claimed, but a man who does not understand why his attempts to do good have been shunned.

I simply don't know where this is coming from. I've never stooped so low. Certainly the New People's Party has never stooped so low. I'll be honest with you: I can't understand these people! They keep resisting our legislation, not realizing that we are the People! They're so, so, removed from reality. It's unbelievable. Now, I know these – I'm going to be frank – silly comments aren't going to go away, so I'll respond. The NPP has never done anything that wasn't open and honest. Haven't we been in favor of openness in the past? Yes! Yes we have! We would never conspire, behind the People's backs, to bring down a, a, elected, albeit misguided, party. This is simply a vicious, terrible effrontery to the People. I'll be attempting to meet with Mr. Svindal soon, and I sincerely hope that I will be able to put to rest his fears, and that we will be able to move forward, together. For a better future, for a better Cobura.

There you have it. Svindal has shown himself to be anti-People, anti-Cobura, and a creator of terrible, vicious lies. We warn the PfI: the People will remember this on election day.
