Serra Verde Hydroelectricity power plant inaugurated

After 4 years of construction works in the outskirts of Serra Verde, the long awaited hydroelectric power plant has finally been inaugurated. The Minister of Transport and Infrasctructure, Rafael al-Tahtawi, was present to oversee the inauguration of the plant. Its operation starts this week, from where it will gradually pump energy, until reaching its full potential of 7350 MW.

     Democratic People's Party announces plan to contest next general election

Tukarali’s minor third party the Democratic People’s Party has announced an ambitious plan to contest the next national general election, currently scheduled to be held in March 5413. The announcement by party leader Nelson Cordeiro was made only a few months after the opposition Citizens party won a surprise election victory over the incumbent Social Liberal Party. Cordeiro told supporters and journalists his party had been buoyed by Citizens’ success and hoped that it would lead to a new era of party politics in the country.

Cordeiro founded the Democratic People’s Party alongside Cássia Pedroso during the last legislative session. The pair became disillusioned with the liberal economic policies of the government. In the last election, the party was only able to secure ballot access in a handful of towns and cities in São Miguel. In the coming months, Pedroso says that improving their national representation and increasing public awareness will be his key priorities.

Cordeiro and Pedroso identify themselves as “Hosian social democrats” and their party platform combines support for left-wing economics with Aurorian social policies. As a consequence, they hope to attract support from across the political spectrum over the coming months and years. Earlier this month, the Democratic People’s Party received a significant boost when former professional football player Manuel Delgado announced he had joined the party and was hoping to stand as a candidate in the next election.

Cocoa industry kickstarts operations in Tukarali

Following the venture investments of 600 Dundorfian Marks from the Dastlesch and Kretsch Bank AG, the cocoa sector has already started started operations near Porto Esperança, Vale do Morata. The Dundorfian investment proved crucial to the success of the only Cocoa company in Tukarali, Tukacau, through the funding of infrastructure and tax incentives that were provided by the Tukarese government and the Dundorfian companies. Together with the start of operations, there was also the start of the exports towards Dundorf, that although are at a lower level then international market prices, was a necessary condition for the approval of the investments by the Dundorfian government.

In a related note, the Tukarese Prime-Minister, João Barreiro, has already pledged to diversify the sector in the near future, once that Tukacau reaches a more stable potential of production, as a way to follow with the national policy of trust-busting.

After refoundation, ALIANÇA will call party elections.
The announcement of the refoundation and the call for new elections in the party came during a meeting of the Council of Foxist Movements (CFM).

During the annual meeting of the Council of Foxist Movements (CFM), which took place today (25), the refounding of the ALIANÇA party was announced, and the call for new party elections to decide who will lead the party. In the same session, Lucas Almeida (ALIANÇA) was elected by 10 votes in favor and 2 against to temporarily assume the role of Party Leader until the results of the elections. The new interim Leader will have to analyze the registration of candidacies for the elections and register the candidates. In his inauguration speech, Almeida said that he is analyzing possible candidates:

So far, we already have 3 confirmed pre-candidates, and we are analyzing other candidacy requests. We also get in touch with electoral research institutes to find out what our voters' opinions are and their voting intentions.

According to Almeida, it is estimated that around 10,000 members and/or supporters over the age of 18 will participate in the elections. To vote, the member or supporter must go to the party's voting center and fill in the details, casting their vote. Null/blank votes or abstentions will not be counted, only valid votes, but will still be kept for informational purposes.

Social Liberal Party regains majority following 5414 election results



The Social Liberal Party of Tukarali, the country's sole party with representation for 3 consecutive elections, regains the majority in the Federal House of Representatives after a bitter defeat to Cidadãos in the 5410 elections.

The result however gave the party only a narrow majority in the Assembly, following a 54,3% win in the popular vote and 273 seats in the Assembly.

Cidadãos got the remaining 227 seats in the House of Representative as the other two parties, Aliança por Tukarali and the Popular Democratic Party failed to reach the minimum of the vote necessary to enter the Assembly.

The elections registered an 80,3% turnout, a relative high, with the SLP clenching wins in the states of São Miguel, Vale do Morata e Lago Cuanto, whilst Cidadãos won the states of Datã and Borusca.

This win is expected to see a return to the policies of the party during its dominant years of the 5400's decade, since Ruy Barbosa, president during 5401-5410, has been reelected to the job, with João Barreiro being put as the candidate for the Prime-Minister spot for one final term. Those being an austerity based fiscal policy, tax cuts, free trade and markets and internationalism.

5418 election is “pivotal” for Democratic People's Party, says leader Cordeiro

The upcoming Tukarese general election is “pivotal” to the future of the Democratic People's Party, says party co-founder Nelson Cordeiro. After forming the party in 5410, Cordeiro previously said the party hoped to make an electoral breakthrough in the 5413 general election. Despite this, the party won no seats. Cordeiro blamed problems securing ballot access and limited media coverage for his party’s underperformance.

Since its formation eight years ago, the Democratic People’s Party has struggled to capture the public mood. In the current legislative term, the party has sought to distinguish itself from the governing Social Liberal Party (PSL) by focusing on conservative Hosian social policies. Due to the much larger profile of the PSL and the opposition Cidadãos party, these efforts have been largely ineffective. Amid the struggles, Cordeiro has resisted pressure to step down from leadership.

Democratic People's Party becomes the biggest party in Tukarali, yet no single party holds a majority



After decades of single party governments in Tukarali, the election of 5418 brought a series of surprises with its results. The first and most clear of them was the victory of the Democratic People's Party in this election, going from no representation in the national assembly to being the biggest party in the Federal House of Representatives, such a result gives them serious power to negotiate the next cabinet. The second surprise is that none of the parties hold a majority by itself, a feature unprecedented in the last decades of Tukarese politics, which will now see heavy government negotiations to settle a working cabinet and pass meaningful laws during this tenure.

Although the Democratic People's Party is the biggest party in the Assembly, question are rising over the possibilities of cabinets to be negotiated. Would the Democratic People's Party hold to the closest ideological party and negotiate with the Social Liberal Party, or would they cross the aisle and try to negotiate with the Citizens as a way to cede less ministries in their government. There is still even the possibility of a minority government between the two right-of-center parties, the Social Liberal Party and the Citizens, as a way to maintain ideological cohesion. Independently of the government in place, all parties in power will surely have to make concessions to enable a working cabinet in Tukarali.

Prime-Minister of Tukarali, João Barreiro, retires from politics



In and out of the Prime-Ministerial seat for the past two decades, the Social Liberal Party Chairman and Prime-Minister of Tukarali João Barreiro announced in this evening his retirement from politics. In a farewell address from the Prime-Minister's palace, João Barreiro stated: "It was the greatest honor of my life to be such a prolific public servant to the nation of Tukarali, the past 20 years have been a one-time experience that wouldn't have been possible without the support of our vibrant population, to every single Tukarese to whom this transmission reaches, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for making all of the achievements that we reached together possible."

João Barreiro had been Chairman of the Social Liberal Party since 5394, a role that now passes to lifelong companion and ex-president, Ruy Barbosa. Both his stints as Prime-Minister, firstly from 5398 until 5410 and then from 5414 until 5418 oversaw policies of liberalization of the country's economy, greater integration in the international scenario of Terra, public works to secure energy infrastructure and the country admission to the Security Council.

The Prime-Minister powers will still be executed by João Barreiro until a new cabinet is formed, however, he has already pledged to not continue his carreer in politics given his advanced age of 79 years, and will now follow a carreer as a university professor at the Lago Cuantu University, lecturing the economics course.

Nelson Cordeiro equivocal on government formation after presidential election victory

Democratic People's Party leader Nelson Cordeiro says no decision has been made on which political parties will form the next Tukarese government. Earlier this month, Cordeiro won an unexpected victory in the Tukarese presidential election. In the same election, his party won a plurality in the House of Representatives. As the party did not win an overall majority, there has been widespread speculation about hypothetical coalition partners. The party leadership is reportedly divided on the issue.

According to reports, Cordeiro and his allies favour a coalition with the Social Liberal Party. At the same time, deputy leader Cássia Pedroso and the wider party membership appear to support allying with the Cidadãos party. Despite the differences between the three parties, there is a consensus on many political issues in the country. Both parties would be likely to find areas of mutual agreement with the president’s party.

In several important policy areas, the new president has signalled his desire to continue the policies of his veteran predecessor. In the foreign policy domain, Cordeiro has pledged to extend the policy of engagement with the international community through the World Congress. Tukarali was recently re-elected to the body’s Security Council. In terms of civil liberties, all three political parties have supported policies that strengthen the position of the Aurorian Patriarchal Church too.

New government formed in Tukarali



In an unprecedented occurence in many ways, the first Victor Cabinet has been formed. Sergio Victor, previously the leader of the Social Liberal Party in the Federal House of Representatives, has been elected Prime-Minister once that the vote for the cabinet proposal passed by 282-218, with the whole of the Social Liberal Party and the Citizens voting in favor of the proposal, while the Democratic People's Party voted against it. Such a result means that the elected cabinet has been formed without the presence of the country's biggest party, the Democratic People's Party, which was left out of the proposal. In a statement yesterday, once the result of the voting had been released, Sergio Victor, the new Prime-Minister expressed his joy in the result and his expectations for the cabinet: "This has surely been an amazing night for us and our partners at Citizens, we expect nothing less than the full efforts of all of our cabinet members, so we are hopeful that, following the policy plank agreed upon both of our parties, we will deliver for the Tukarese people, and help unleash the full potential of our country."

This is a change of direction from the last decades of politics in Tukarali, since it is the first year that we won't see the familiar of João Barreiro in the Prime-Minister's seat, as well as this being the first multi-party cabinet of the last couple of decades in the country. The ministries that went stayed with the Social Liberal Party were those of: Foreign Affairs, Internal Affairs, Finance, Infrastructure and Transport, Education and Culture, Science and Technology and Enviroment and Tourism. While the Citizens gained the ministries of: Defence, Justice, Health and Social Services, Food and Agriculture and Trade and Industry. Amongst the main tasks of this minority party government will be how to deal with the fractured balance of power within the country, with a Democratic People's Party president that has not seen his party included in the proposal.

The aforementioned policy plank that Victor mentioned in his statement has been released to the public. The government program includes: a new infrastructure program, the re-development of the Seleyan Intergovernamental Council, pursuit of international trade deals, constitutional reform and healthcare reform.
