Tukarese President responds criticism of nuclear program
February 18, 3361
At a press conference today, President Gadanha Hortencio fired back at the Society of Patriots.
The current government of Tukarali makes it its policy to expand Tukarali's influence on the world stage. We have traditionally huddled into a corner, trying to escape from the rest of the world. However, this is a clearly unsustainable path to remain on. The people are clamouring against these isolationst policies. These policies are highly detrimental to our economic growth and development, which is progression at unprecedented speeds in recent history. We must abandon these foolish policies and be willing to engage with the rest of the world. That is what the Alliance believes.
The Society of Patriots has accused us of being warmongers. We are not warmongers. Instead, we find prosperity and wellbeing in peace. However, if we are to walk onto the international stage without being bullied by the powerful nations out there that like to exploit less mighty nations, we must arm outselves. Yes, we currently have no known enemies. That is because have been stuck in the shadows for too long. When we were in our little fish pond, there was nobody to attack us, but in jumping into the ocean of international diplomacy, you are almost certain to encounter a shark here and there. Nobody yet overtly declares us their foe; who knows how many nations seek to pounce upon us once we start to engage diplomatically with other nations? Remeber the old adage: he who wishes for peace must prepare for war. We must therefore built nuclear weapons, and we will make it clear to the world that they will never be used in aggression, but that we have them ready if we are attacked.
The Alliance holds political beliefs, like all other parties, and we have chosen to associate with a number of like-minded parties. However, we will say, for once and for all, that the Congress for Liberty in no way determines our foreign policy. We certainly will not warm to oppressive and dictatorial nations, but we find no reason to make war with them. Our foreign policy will be based on what's good for Tukarali.
The Society of Patriots is vehemently opposed to the way we have handled our nuclear program. This would all be perfectly valid if Tukarali was still to remain an isolated, unnoticed nation. This cannot continue. The Alliance wants better than that, and we must be ready to face the challenges that may arise as a result. The Society is content to name us 'Greater Tukarali'. We geniunely want Tukarali to be great, and not just in name.
I must also address the protests in Tukarali. Several Tukarese polling agencies have been asking Tukarese citizens what they think about the nuclear program. The results unanimously point to majority popular support for the nuclear program. I will listen to the opnions of those opposed to my policies, because I am their President too. However, the people are for it. The quiet minority knows that it is best for our nation that we engage with other nations, and arm ourselves in case not everyone we meet wants to become our friend.

The President speaks to reporters
Shortly after the press conference, the President was questioned by reporters on the effects of nuclear testing. He was asked whether it would affect crops yields or cause any health problems.
No, I don't think that this will cause any problems. Of course, the concerns over nuclear testing should not be disregarded or disrespected. The farmers nearby can't be blamed for being worried. However, these tests are perfectly safe, as far as I know. I'm not a scientist, but I've been assured by physicists and other scientific experts that these tests will not cause any significant adverse impacts.

The Scientific Director of the nuclear program, Érico Carlos Marzagão Gralheiro, agreed with the President's statement:
Look, I try not to be political. I mean, I'm a scientist, not a politician. But I think that the Society is seriously exaggerating the impacts.
You know, us scientists know that nuclear explosions will cause health hazards, and so we told the government that we had to take all possible preventative measures to prevent problems. For our first test, the only atmospheric test we plan on conducting, we seeded the clouds to make it rain. That prevented the dispersal of fallout. It was a pretty small bomb too, which reduced the impacts as well. Quite frankly, one 7 kt bomb will hardly have any health impact at all even if you don't seed the clouds. The second test was underground, and our instruments detected no venting at all, which meant that fallout didn't escape into the atmosphere.
And obviously, the location was important too. We chose a place far away from civilisation. The Society is right that the Morata Valley is highly fertile, but not all of it. Some parts are quite dry. We tested our bombs in a desert. You can't grow anything there, really. In any case, our safety measures have ensured that there are only dangerously high levels of radiation over an area of about 5 square km. In the second-biggest country in the world, that's hardly anything to worry about, especially if its a patch of useless and barren desert that we're losing.
All in all, we've done all that we can to prevent health problems and the destruction of farmland, and the impacts of our nuclear testing will be negligible. The farmers need not worry that their crops will be poisoned.

When asked whether, despite the protests, the government had asked him to go ahead with the plutonium bomb, Marzagão Gralheiro simply replied
Yes.

Plutonium bomb tested
March 2, 3362
Todayat 4:00 am, Tukarali's plutonium bomb, the product of several years of development, was successfully exploded in the Morata Valley. To contain fallout, the device was detonated underground. Instruments measured a yield of 52 kt, which slightly exceeded expectations. The government released a message congratulating scientists on their achievement, and encouraged them to work on the design until a weaponised device was built.

Government works towards reform
June 4, 3362
Image
The President in Cabinet
During the past several years, the Alliance government has enacted radical reforms in Tukarali - and they show no signs of slowing down. Already, there are clear results.
The first Alliance budget ramped up government spending, which had hovered at a shockingly low 14% of GDP, while lowering taxes. This budget cut down a ridiculously large surplus, but still managed to balance itself. Alliance legislators, most prominently the Finance Minister himself, Sünid Tömörbaatariin Möngkebaghatur, stated that the government was now fulfilling its function of serving the people, instead of taxing and hoarding as the Society had done, while it did not burden itself down with debt. Spending was increased on defence, to bolster the Tukarese military. The Foreign Ministry's share was increased also, in line with the Alliance's policy of reaching out to other nations. The budgets for labour and commerce, education and transport were ramped up to stimulate development. A new budget, proposed this year, also increased spending on technology.
In 3361, the government acted to privatize healthcare, while subsidizing the costs for low-income earners. This meant that the cost of healthcare fell due to the competition, meaning that everybody benefited. Meanwhile, the Reform Act legalized abortions, previously permitted only in medical emergencies, returning reproductive rights to women, as the government claimed. The same act also made the carrying of ID cards voluntary, with Alliance legislators claiming that compulsory ID cards were signs of a police state. In the same month, the Alliance withdrew from the International Committee of the Red Cross, stating that Tukarali was a developing nation and therefore could not afford to give aid.
The structure of the executive branch of government was overhauled, with the President saying that he wanted to reduce the workload of minsters to prevent unsatisfactory work. The Alliance then proceeded with one of the most symbolically significant acts: removing references to Shuya Nakagawa in the President's title. Conservatives were stunned, but the Alliance proceeded anyway. Currently, a resolution to cease governmental recognition of Shuya Nakagawa's fictitious 'eternal reign' is being considered in the legislature, as well as a bill to throw out the 'authoritarian and restrictive' constitution.
Meanwhile, as part of its policy of increasing international dialogue, the Alliance made contact with a number of neighbouring nations and major international powers, requesting permission to establish embassies on their soil, and raising the possibility of treaties of friendship. The government has moved to ratify a large number of treaties, promoting free trade and recognizing the neutral stance of foreign nations. The government has also proposed the ratification of Phoenix Alliance to bolster its international ties for the sake of national security.
Finally, the Alliance has proposed a bill to liberalize the economy, with sweeping economic reform involving the slashing of regulation and comprehensive privatization. This aims at reducing the size of government and encouraging economic growth.

COVER STORY:THE UNION LEADER WHO BECAME PRESIDENT
Interview with the new Socialist President in Tukarali,Roherio Granco

April 20th,3576
The newly elected President of Tukarali, has accepted our request for an interview.
Image
Vitor Salares had the chance to interview the new Tukarese President
VS Good afternoon Mr.President.Are you getting used to your new title?
RG Mr. Salares, welcome.I try to get used to it and cope with the responsibilities that come with it also.
VS It was certainly a tough battle, with the ageing R.Morales a very prestigious opponent especially in the 2nd round of the elections. How was it for a fresh man like you to take the reins from outcoming President Anatol Abreu, and winning against R.Morales while endorsed by TDU,a traditional center-right party?
RG Prior to the elections,my party had agreed to cooperate with the TDU so it was no surprise for me to be endorsed in the 2nd round. What was surprising was the fact that I won relatively easy a politician with great experience and reputation like Mr.Morales.
VS So,you came into politics from a similar ground.According to my source, you were a Union Leader not long ago.Could you give the public a timeline of your political carreer?
RG Of course.First of all I was born in 3527,in the city of Hareth,in Dhataan.I studied Law in the Dhataan National University and graduated in 3551.Shortly after,I joined the Garzelo & Maranhas Law Firm in Shrin Kali.In 3556,the Labour Union of Dockworkers In Dhataan offers me the position of Union Council member/research associate.I gladly accept.Five years later,in 3561 I am nominated for Union Leadership and win the election.Having worked as a dockworker part-time to make ends meet as a law student,I have the knowlegde of how hard this job is.When my 2year term finishes I decide to seek a Proffessor position in the Shrin Kali National University.I teach Labour Law for about 2 years when,in year 3565,Marcelo Gronalda, our General Secretary approaches me for a membership in the not-yet formed Partido Socialista de Tukarali. After a month's thought,I resign from my university post and join PST.
The rest you know,of course!
VS And one last question Mr.President.Can you describe your feelings about being elected in the highest office of Tukarali?
RG I'm absolutely excited Mr.Salares.I will work hard to ensure the people are not dissapointed by me.
VS Thank you Mr.President,it has been a pleasant interview.
RG Thank you,Mr Salares,it has been a very nice conversation

3-party coalition cabinet in Tukarali.PST former General Secretary M.Gronalda appointed Chancellor

Image
The new Chancellor in his first speech in front of the Assembly

It came as a surprise, but the proposed 3-party coalition cabinet including PST,TDU and PFT has manged to secure the votes needed to form a new goverment cabinet. It is believed that this proposal was formed due to the increasing inactivity of the majority Democratic Workers Party, whose ageing leadership has always been a talking point for the opposition(mainly TDU) and as a continuation of the good relations between the PST and TDU after the last Presidential elections cooperation.
As it was expected the PST controls the most ministries in this coalition cabinets and the Chancellor's position is held by one of the founders and former General Secretary of the PST Executive Assembly,Marcelo Gronalda.

That means Tukarali is ruled by a Socialist President and Chancellor and citizens will undoubtedly hope that the two men will do everything to make a better life in Tukarali.

Revived Aikokusha Prepares for Early Elections
9 July 3604
Image

After only a little over a year since early elections were held in February 3603, the National Assembly has approved another round of early elections set for next month. This comes after the collapse of the Social Democratic Party and the failure of President Bernarndo Campos to carry out his duties. These new early elections, supported by the government opposition, have put organizers of the Party of the Great Revival (PAK) into overdrive, as they must condense years of campaign planning into a little over a month.

But this is no setback for the PAK and its leaders, Chairman Kenji Nakagawa and Vice-Chair C.Y. Wijaya, have expressed great optimism regarding their electoral outlook. Chairman Nakagawa, a direct-descendant of the Eternal Leader Shuya Nakagawa, sees the election as a chance for his party to more quickly establish a more direct role in governance of Tukarali. His party, the PAK, is officially recognized as the "37th Century revival of Aikokusha (愛国社)," the political movement which founded the Republic of Greater Tukarali and played a major role in modernizing Tukarali and also in promoting the national Kanzo faith.

This modern Aikokusha has emerged at a time when many native Tukarese are discontented with the democratic government's lack of attention towards cultural identity. Especially irritating to the Tukarese people has been the government's insistence on trying force the nation to conform to the usage of Western languages, rather than the universal and native Modern Tukarese language. Chairman Nakagawa sets "cultural revival" as one of the top priorities of his party, though he also emphasizes policy reforms as well, such as re-establishing free and universal education. It is expected that the PAK will perform well among cultural nationalists, and possibly among minorities, such as the Mu-Tze, as well, due to Aikokusha's close attention to native cultural traditions.

Additionally among Aikokusha's goals are the recognition of Kanzo as the state religion, an increased involvement in Seleyan and Gao affairs, and the establishment of a modern constitutional monarchical government structure. And aside from the PAK's candidacies for seats in parliament, Chairman Shuya Nakagawa will be on the presidential ballot, competing against the Democratic Workers Party and the Tukarese Democratic Union.

Aikokusha Condemns "Cultural Whitewash" in Aldegar
17 August 3604

The Aikokusha Spokesman on Foreign Relations, Zan Nakano, today issued a press release condemning what he calls a "cultural whitewash" in Aldegar. Three summers ago the United Aldegarian Party (UAP) seized absolute power, legitimizing their actions as a defense of the nation against Canrillaişe minority rule. As the UAP consolidated power, the nation descended into chaos and was plagued by terrorism. The UAP Government has most recently claimed that relative stability has been restored in Aldegar, and most all blame for acts of terror are being blindly pinned upon the native Yazdeans and upon the so-called "Canrillaişe conspiracy."

And it is a conspiracy indeed. While the UAP seized power as an apparent defense against Canrillaişe minority rule, it has now become clear that in reality this was just a distraction. The real threat to Aldegar was not Canrillaişe minority rule, rather it is, what Zan Nakano has called, the "cultural whitewash." And this "whitewash" is being carried out by none other than the UAP and General Mahmoud Amnam. The native Yazdean religion and culture is being disrespected by the General's regime, and the nation as a whole, is slowly being stripped of its cultural identity.

Spokesman Nakano's condemnation of the Aldegarian "cultural whitewash" comes following statements from Barmenian Foreign Minister Theodorus Censorius and the Foreign Ministry of the Celestial Empire of Great Indrala. Aikokusha has expressed its support for greater international pressures upon Aldegar, sympathizing with the native Aldegarians and especially the persecuted Yazdeans. Nakano drew comparison between Aldegar and Tukarali, criticizing the dominance of Western-sympathizing and culturally irregular organizations in government.

Tukarese President officially asks for condemnation

Presidente de la República Democrática,
Rui Rondon

In a short statement later today, the President of the Republic of Tukarali,Rui Rondon,a member of the leftist Partido de Gronaldistas, and former Health Minister, has asked for the National Assembly to support unanimously PAK's Proposal on Codemnation of Yazdean Persecution and officially condemned the government of Aldegar for "violations in civil liberties".His full statement,as it was read before the National Assembly:
"While I do not believe in any religion, the inherent right of every individual to worship whatever he/she wants (as long as the worship complies with local laws) is inalienable and it pains me to see that General Amnam's regime has indeed violated several civil liberties of the people of Aldegar, turning a democracy to an one-party authoritarian state."

Aldegar Escalates Tensions with Tukarali
2 July 3605
Image
An Aldegarian soldier announcing the border closure at a crossing near Hareth, Dhataan.

Proving its complete lack of diplomatic grace and its inability to participate in the international order, the Aldegarian leadership has unanimously approved the Northern Security Act. This resolution follows a number of condemnations made by President Rui Rondon and Foreign Minister Zan Nakano, criticizing the Aldegarian persecution of Yazdeans and the destruction of the Aldegarian cultural identity. Other nations, chiefly Barmenia and Indrala, have also condemned the actions of General Mahmoud Amnam.

Prior to the creation of the Northern Security Act, during a tirade about the so-called "Canrillaişe conspiracy" Aldegarian Foreign Minister Ali Mobarat warned the Tukarese National Assembly to stay out of his nation's internal affairs. However, as noted by Foreign Minister Nakano, Aldegar has become a threat to regional security, especially through its development of a biochemical weapons program, in cooperation with Dundorf and Saridan.

While the Tukarese government has only issued condemnations and not gone so far as to yet impose any embargoes or sanctions, the Aldegarian regime has swiftly enacted harsh anti-Tukarese measures through the Northern Security Act. Through this resolution the northern border of Aldegar has been shut down, all formal diplomatic relations have been withdrawn, and the regime intends to deport all Tukarese and to seize all their property. Additionally the act allows for the deployment of "sufficient forces as to secure of national independence and freedom."

The Tukarese Foreign Ministry has stated that it is preparing to handle any arriving deported Tukarese and will be offering assistance to these individuals. Foreign Minister Nakano has said that these individuals will be accepted under the refugee law and will be provided integration-aid, specifically for the purpose of housing and basic needs. The Foreign Ministry has indicated that it will work with individual refugees to determine whether they will be granted a permanent status in Tukarali or if they will be returned to their homes in Aldegar when the situation stabilizes.

Foreign Minister Nakano has expressed great worries regarding the situation in Aldegar and he has been visibly concerned by the current regime's complete willingness to bypass all standards of diplomacy and normal state function in an international order. The Foreign Minister commented, "when a country is so willing to act rashly, without thought toward any diplomatic conduct, its a major problem. Its an issue that can quickly destabilize an otherwise non-violent situation within the international order. Our nation does not fight its neighbors and we will work tirelessly to restore stability to this region."
