Anger as Justice Minister approves Father's Oil Takeover hours before Divan removes powers
-Pāytakht-e Aldegār, Kemoku

Anti-corruption campaigners blasted Justice Minister Čandar Jūzjānī for approving a billion ACR takeover deal for his Father's oil firm only hours before the power to do so passed to the High Court. The successful takeovers will see Jūzjānī Oil Company dominate oil and gas production in Aldegar less than a decade since privatisation. The Competition Commission had described the deals as 'against the best interests of consumers', however it was unable to prevent the takeovers owing to a loophole which meant that oil and gas markets did not come under its purview. The deals were therefore referred to the Ministry of Justice.

Protestors march outside the Ministry of Justice

During the election campaign the Tāza Government was a strong proponent of justice reform and had pledged to remove such powers from the Ministry of Justice and return them to the High Court. This legislation was debated and passed through the National Divan on 15th January. However, at the weekend it emerged that Čandar Jūzjānī had approved Jūzjānī Oil Company's proposed takeovers on the 15th January prior to the vote, thus preventing a ruling by Aldegar's highest court.
Anti corruption campaigners were already angry at Mr Jūzjānī's refusal to recuse himself from the case, although detente was reached when the Ministry of Justice appeared to kick the case into the long grass, waiting until legislation took it to the High Court. Opponents are now suggesting that Čandar Jūzjānī acted to prevent the Court from rejecting the deals and are demanding to know of any communication between the Ministry of Justice and Jūzjānī Oil Company, the legal advice received by Čandar Jūzjānī and for the Minister to be removed from Office pending a Divan Inquiry.

To the Glory of Yazdān
Bahmanyār Atash Behram has official opening in Ardeshīr-Khwarrah

President Bahmanyār Sīnā hailed the opening of The Fire Temple of Ardeshīr-Khwarrah, also known as Bahmanyār Atash Behram, as a new dawn for Aldegar's Zamānist community. The facility is the only first-grade fire temple within the denomination and marks a new era of religious openness and tolerance.

Image

Once practiced largely in secret due to public suspicion and prejudice, the Temple stands as a visual testament to the resilience of the nation's Zamānists and to progressive changes within Aldegarian society.
President Sīnā, himself a well know Zamānist scholar, reflected that,
Happiness and enlightenment do not come ready made, they come from our words and our actions, they come from listening and learning from the journey of others. For too long communities stopped listening, stopped learning from one another. In this place let us remember to seek wisdom through kindness, openness and light.

The sacred fire was installed at the centre of the Temple behind an amber tinted glass enclosure in a private ceremony prior to the public opening. The site, which was constructed within 3 years, also includes a religious education centre and is decorated with artwork from both local and nation artists.

Luthori Diplomats Expelled As Relations Head Towards Deep Freeze

Aldegar will expel 15 high level diplomats after the Holy Luthori Empire refused to drop the styling 'Shah of Aldegar' from the official title of Luthori monarch William VII. The government said action was needed after conventional diplomatic negotiations proved fruitless.
Constitutional experts have said that the claim is patiently nonsensical and a reflects an imperialist attitude at odds with the modern age.

Speaking before the National Divan, President Bahmanyār Sīnā stated,
The continued use of the styling 'Shah of Aldegar' by the monarch of the Holy Luthori Empire is a challenge to the constitutional status of our nation and a challenge to the legitimate and sovereign government here in Pāytakht-e Aldegār.
The refusal of the Imperial Diet in Fort William to renounce any and all claims on territory within Dowlat-e Aldegar and recognise Aldegar as a free and independent Republic is an affront to democracy and an attack on freedom.

A government source hinted at further action within the coming weeks if the situation could not be swiftly resolved.

Religious Leader Labelled 'Unfit For Office'
Government vows to oppose nomination of controversial cleric

The government has become locked in a bitter war of words with Aldegar's most powerful religious leaders over their nomination for a vacant seat in the National Divan's upper chamber.
Image
Sayyid Qomi-Bigdeli pictured addressing worshippers at a Fire Temple in Pāytakht-e Aldegār

Radical Ahadist preacher Sayyid Qomi-Bigdeli has previously called for the stoning of apostates, described followers of Zamānism as 'sewer rats' and a 'problem which must be driven out', as well as allegedly supporting arson attacks on polling stations 3 years ago.
He has however, built up a significant amount of support within ultra conservative Ahadist circles for his hardline views and fierce criticism of Zamānist President Bahmanyār Sīnā.

Minister of Internal Affairs Ramak Marzbān said his nomination was 'dangerous' and an affront to Aldegarian democracy.
Sayyid Qomi-Bigdeli is made unfit for public office by his own public pronouncements. The government will do everything necessary to ensure the safety and stability of our democracy and our multi faith society, and we urge the Mobedan Mobed and powers within Ahadism to think again about their appointment.

Minister Marzbān did not rule out a change to the law, which allows all titles and positions of nobility to be determined solely by religious leaders.

When questioned about the allegations of sectarianism by reporters, Qomi-Bigdeli responded that,
The only true understanding of Yazdān comes through Ahadism, this is a fact. If any man says otherwise, he is lying. This is a fact.
Attacks on my faith are an attack on all Ahadists across Aldegar. Power comes only from Yazdān, this is a fact. The mandate of power comes from Yazdān and Ahadism, not a piece of paper at an election.

Regional Reforms Change Map Of Aldegar

The Local Government Act 4456 shall see the map of Aldegar redrawn to reflect increasing levels of urbanisation. Many historic rural regions have been abolished or amalgamated in what Minister of Internal Affiars Ramak Marzbān described as 'the most significant reform of local government in centuries'.

Image

The measures, first proposed by the Constitutional Reform Committee in 4452, passed through the National Divan unopposed.
The Act abolishes entirely the existing system of local government and replaces it with 5 distinct Ostān, each made up of 20 šahrestân, administrative divisions, of equal population size.
The Minister said the reforms were necessary to meet the needs of forty fifth century Aldegar and ensure the effective delivery of public services.

Many across Aldegar have lamented the loss of heritage which will result from the legislation. Some protestors in Polran, angry that the administrative capital will be moved from its traditional home of Markaz to the city of Kasād, lit bonfires across the municipality.

Image
The Paiwand Gū 925 handset

Paiwand Electronics is set to launch its first mobile device next month, the Paiwand Gū 925. The phone, priced at 250ACR, seeks to make a splash in the mid to high end market and provide a homegrown challenge to established international competitors.

The company says the phone is the first of its kind to be developed and produced in Aldegar, and are marketing the phone using the slogan 'Never Compromise'. Paiwand CEO Javad Daei revealed,
Our goal was to design a smartphone that would balance high-end quality with a lower price than other established market competitors in this class.

The device has received mixed reviews from critics. The classic design and customisable interface has won praise from some, whilst others highlighted the lack of new or unique features and poor battery life as potential draw backs. Review aggregator website AldegarCritic currently gives the phone a 3/5 star rating.

Protests rock Pāytakht-e Aldegār
March 4483

Pāytakht-e Aldegār - Protests have rocked the Aldegarian capital of Pāytakht-e Aldegār. The snap general elections have brought forward the Moderation and Development Party; a party made up of mostly conservative priests and military officers. The Moderation and Development Party is headed by newly elected President Nozar Hashempour; a former General in the Aldegarian Revolutionary Guard movement, a movement founded as a military force that protected the ruling priesthood of the Yazdi faith; loyal to the overall leadership of the priesthood but seeking a balance between a civil and religious government. The protests mostly developed out of actions by outgoing secular parties that the incoming President has deemed "...criminal organizations..." and the brand new national legislature has passed resolutions condemning their predecessors. While there were protests, they were quickly met with counter-protests, loyalist of the Moderation and Development Party as well as off-duty soldiers and police officers who see the MDP as the new party of stability, as evidenced by their impressive budget being voted on by the national legislature.

President Hashempour has stated that his first goal is to appoint the Supreme Court of Aldegar, a panel of 11 judges appointed by the President after being confirmed by the Guardian Council. The Guardian Council is made up of mostly priests, 6 of which are appointed by the Mobedan Mobed and another 6 appointed by the Consultative Assembly with the permission of the government. The Guardian Council is the de facto power within Aldegar as the Mobedan Mobed speaks directly through the Guardian Council as it's ceremonial head. The Supreme Court will be responsible for matters related to the civil constitution while any matters relating to religious matters will be transferred to a special religious court that has jurisdiction over matters related to Yazdism. The Ministry of Justice is responsible for all judicial appointments and the operations of the criminal and civil justice system within Aldegar; the Ministry of the Interior is responsible for the police and matters of internal security.

Overall the direction of the Moderation and Development Party is heading Aldegar in the right direction.

Aldegarian President calls for new bloc to "...counter Northern Council aggression."
February 4484

Aldegaria, Kemoku Province - President of the State of Aldegar Nozar Hashempour joined Aldegarian Foreign Minister Karim Kasebi at a foreign investment conference in which they spoke of the "...poor state of international affairs." The new President, who has worked to restore the Shah and bring Yazdism back to the forefront of Aldegarian society and is widely popular with approval ratings reach in the low 90s, has called for the creation of a new bloc of states to "...counter Northern Council aggression." The President noted that the Northern Council itself was not a malevolent organization but it acted in bad faith in international affairs and that Aldegar would gladly lead or take part in a new bloc to counter the Northern Council and provide a check to such future alliances. Court Minister Houshang Ghaffari, the man given the nod by the Shah as his representative to the civil government and the "Prime Minister of Aldegar" which officially exists, noted that the Shah was looking forward to meeting with other monarchies around the globe to discuss the dismal state of nobility and monarchies and the lack of a "consolidated alliance" of monarchial states.

The conference was preceded by a 5 day long military parade in which Aldegar, widely considered to be a "semi-failed state" displayed their domestic arms industry, a huge talking point for the Moderation and Development Party which is mostly comprised of conservative military officers who are apart of the Aldegarian Revolutionary Guard, a movement which spawned to "Restore the Shah and return Aldegar to Greatness" according to their own manifesto. General Taghi Arabnia, whose serves as the Minister of Defense and Chief of Staff and Commander of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Aldegar, is confident about the abilities of Aldegar to return itself to "greatness" with a "...coordinated effort on re-building domestic production and self-reliance. While we are not opposed to assistance from the outside, we are not wholly dependent on it."

Aldegar locks in deal with Tropica for loan
February 4484

Aldegaria - Representatives from the Tropica government and representatives from the State Bank of Aldegar including Minister of Finance Keykavous Nasirian have announced a 1b LOD loan to the Tropican government for renewable energy projects; something that the new Aldegar government is interested in. The loan will be structured to be paid back over 12 years and will include stock options included in the setup of companies and industries needed to complete the project. The Ministry of Trade and Industry has also announced that it would be working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to build relations with the Tropican government over technical and scientific cooperation, namely in the area of renewable energy where the current Minister of Finance believes is a chance for Aldegar to build up its economy. Finance Minister Nasirian noted that the loan was made to help build up both the credit and good will of the Aldegarian government and was a "...economically sound investment into Dovani nations that have provided us with so much over the past several centuries."

Imperial Aldegarian Navy sails through Aldegar Canal in a show of force
March 4484

Aldegar Canal - In what is seen as the first show of force in a decade, the Aldegarian Navy including 3 of it's premier Moudge-class frigates have sailed through the Aldegarian Canal in what the Office of the President has called a "...exercise to ensure the integrity of the security of the canal." The action was overseen by the Commander of the Aldegarian Navy Rear Adm. Omid Gankhaki as a means to show that the Aldegarian state is willing to defend the canal from all foreign invaders; something that has stoked the fires in the recent military buildup over the past several months since the Moderation and Development Party stormed to electoral dominance in the February 4483 elections in which the transitional Consultative Assembly adopted the new Constitution of the Imperial State of Aldegar. The Aldegarian Navys public information office noted that the operation was a success and that in the future, there will be regular patrols through the canal to ensure that "...terrorist and foreign enemy elements do not endanger world trade or international stability." The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Trade and Industry likewise released joint statements in which they announced a joint task force with the Government Gendarmerie, the national police force of Aldegar, to setup one of their Special Units for protection of the canal directly.

The Aldegar Canal, built between 2386 - 2403, serves as an integral piece of Aldegarian economics. The Aldegar Canal Company was nationally and then partially sold off underneath the direction of the Aldegarian Ministry of Finance, it remains with 51% in the hands of the Aldegarian government. This was seen widely as a compromise between nationalization and private efforts; a move that has been sponsored by the Pesuna Dynasty and plans to be continued. The Ministry of Finance plans to release another set of stocks over the course of the next 20 years, seen as a means to rebuild and update the canal.
