Walatom sends liquidators, research teams to affected areas by nuclear attack
Nowogard, July 4419
Image
A liquidator is suited up to conduct cleanup activities in Ornaéhrne, a city recently abandoned by the nuclear attack.

NOWOGARD - Today Walatom has sent a team of about 150 liquidators and research teams to both clean up and study the affected areas of the Vanukean nuclear attack, mostly confined to the Tribal Areas in the south. A noble act for the sake of the environment, but Walatom states that many of them will not come back. “These men are essentially making the ultimate sacrifce, not for their own country but for Terra as a whole. The families of men and women who will be going into the most dangerous of areas have already been given compensation.” What is now being called “The Zone” is nearly the entirety of the Tribal Areas, along with small stretches of land in the Vanukean and Deltarian occupied areas. The company has made it clear that the task of cleanup will certainly be daunting, given the vast area of radioactive fallout that has fanned out over the past year, despite the Kingdom of Vanuku’s claim that their warhead was a concentrated blast.

Chairman of the Board of Directors, Andrzej Lazarski, stated that they would likely be deploying more men over the coming months, and set up long-term research facilities within Jelbania. “This is a great crisis that needs to be studied as well as mediated, so that it is not replicated under similar conditions. We do this for the environment as well as for the Jelbic peoples. However I highly discourage illegal entry into the Zone. What have been recorded as ‘Stalkers’ in the past few months attempting to steal items will be met with harsh disciplinary action. This is a disaster zone, not a flash sale in a department store.” Time will tell how long it will take to clean up affected areas, but Chairman Lazarski states that it will likely be many years before southern Jelbania is able to be occupied again.

The city of Ornaéhrne has already been retaken by nature, with tree growth seemingly increased by radiation. Photo was graciously given to us by a fellow liquidator who has apparently fallen ill.

Beat Brothers release new single, “I Don’t Have to Wait”, stirs up hype for 2nd studio album
Nowogard, 19 July 4419

Today the airwaves have once again been permeated with the sound of The Beat Brothers with the release of their new single, “I Don’t Have to Wait”, which seemingly teases the release of their second studio album. Immediately selling out once again in our nation as well as Kalistan under VEMI’s aptly named “VEMI Kalistan” subsidiary, it seemingly remains the same overall aesthetic as their previous repertoire while seemingly infusing classic elements of Kalistani rock n’roll genres. Inside Nowogard was able to sit down for a brief interview with the band’s record producer, Anders Hellström-Zawislak.

Image
”Frankly I never expected them to take off like this. God bless their manager. As for this single? It’s mostly the work of Pawlik and Hanuszek. They not only have real talent for music, but writing as well.”

How does this song differ from the previous tracks in “Here to Please”?

Well, noticing that we’ve considerably taken off in Kalistan, Pawlik and Hanuszek decided to blend together some aspects of Kalistani and Valruzian rock n’ roll, two very deep musical scenes. Seems only natural. Plus they’ve got such a rich musical history there. Such diverse genres, the birthplace of rock, the list goes on.

Has your management style changed to fit the needs of the group?

Oh, certainly. They want a sort of autonomy in their work, let their creative processes flow, and I occasionally guide them when necessary. Mostly it seems that Hanuszek and Pawlik have been penning most of the songs, but ”Girls”, a track on “Here to Please” was written by Rysiek. Then there’s the occasional cover. “Shake and Shout”, originally wrote by the Johnston Brothers, a Esinsundu-Kalistani rock band was a monumentally successful cover that they did.

What are your thoughts on expanding into other nations?

Seeing the success of Beatmania has definitely put that thought on my mind. And now we certainly have room for that, I won’t deny it. Perhaps I can contribute with Mielcarek to see if something can come to fruition. The music scene in Indrala is something incredibly unique, and dominates the charts over there. It would be silly not to consider expansion. Ultimately however, the most accurate answer I can give is to wait and see.

Many people, specifically of the older generation, have lashed out at the Beat Brothers, stating their music is “corrupting the minds of our youth”. What are your thoughts on this?

[Hellström-Zawislak gives a hearty laugh] They can say all they want. The charts don’t lie, Beatmania is here to stay. But, if the old folks need appeasing, then maybe I can talk with the bigwigs at VEMI to see about creating another label focusing on more traditional stuff. More cultural music, y’know? Few decades back, the Tredyakovsky Ensemble was wildly popular in Trigunia and that was their entire repertoire— cultural songs. Could prove successful or fruitless, it’s up to the market, but I’m no economist.

Hellström-Zawislak advises the band during a music session. Whether or not the session is for their possible 2nd studio album is unknown.

Cleanup efforts in Jelbania stall as Valruzian liquidators are forced out by government
Nowogard, October 4419
Image
A Jelbanian patrol near the edge of the Zone. Our field reporter was asked to not take any more photographs of them.

NOWOGARD - Walatom has expressed frustration as of late due to a heavy stall in cleanup efforts in the Tribal areas, mainly due to the Jelbanian government not allowing foreign travel. According to Walatom, Foreign Minister Pilarczyk explicitly asked Jelbania's own FM to grant access of their company into the region, and was quoted as saying that liquidators were in fact allowed. "This is a frustrating turn of events, having our efforts stalled. We will continue however to keep in contact with the Jelbanian government to see if conditions improve to allow our teams to return. It is of the most importance that we act quickly to clean up the aftermath, for the implications for our environment could be dire." When asked about cleanup of potential dangers that drifted from the radioactive fallout to other nations, Chairman of the Board Lazarski was optimistic. "It's not just Jelbania that is feeling the effects of this. Any nation next to them is already seeing consequences. We will attempt to send people there too. If we are stalled again, we can only hope for scientists within their respective nations will take as much attention as we have."

Beat Brothers release 2nd studio album to immense success
Nowogard, 21 October 4420 (OOC: Backlogged 2 months)

Image
The cover image of Introducing... The Beat Brothers. Most of the songs within contain a specific Kalistani vibe.

Today the Beat Brothers released their second studio album with Beatmania showing no signs of slowing down. The most popular single, "All my Desires", gained constant airtime on both Valruzian and Kalistani airwaves, along with various international stations. Already local music stores in Nowogard are reporting empty shelves, with similar sights happening in the rest of the nation's Voivodeships. "Honestly, by now, it doesn't surprise me," Hellström-Zawislak stated in an interview on "Late Nights in Nowogard", a popular evening talkshow. "It's good to see that they're continuing to develop their style as well as stick to what has made them great." The somber looking album cover was a choice of their manager, Mielcarek, who wanted them to appear slightly more mature. Previously a significant popular music genre in Valruzia was YingPop, but now the flames seem to be finally dying out. Could the time finally be right for the Beat Brothers to knock YingPop off it's perch? The phenomenon says yes.

Beat Brothers organize Seleyan tour

Today along with the success of their second studio album, the Beat Brothers announced their plans for a Seleyan Tour. Touting that they'll cover "a nation a month", first starting with north Seleya. But the band likely wished to start in January of next year. When asked why they wished to conduct the tour, Hanuszek quipped that it was as partially due to the Jelbanian nuclear attack. "I mean something like that, you just can't sit there. I ran it by the other guys and they were fine with it. Of course I had to do the same thing with the bigwigs at VEMI and Hellström-Zawislak, but after that, we were fine to do it." Hanuszek also stated that half of the proceeds would go to relief efforts of Jelbanian liquidators and their families.

Newly-elected Minister of Defense, General Ambrozy Wawro unveils "Project Phoenix"
Nowogard, April 25, 4421
Image
"Valruzia is a NOCTO member, and we must carry our weight accordingly.", MoD Wawro spoke in an interview with a local Nowogard radio station today.

NOWOGARD - Today in Nowogard the newly-elected Minister of Defense and three star General Ambrozy Wawro unveiled Project Phoenix, a massive project aimed at revitalizing and improving the Valruzian naval fleet along with the other branches of the armed forces, if deemed necessary. Wawro stated that the purpose of the project was mainly due to Valruzia's entrance into NOCTO. "Valruzia is a NOCTO member, and we must carry our weight accordingly," the General quipped. "If not, then we will quickly make a laughingstock of ourselves in one of the most powerful military alliances north of the equator." Whilst most details on the project are classified, in regards to what is being produced, recent tax legislation introduced before the Sejm seem to indicate that the project is likely to be massive, consuming billions of Valruzian Pesos, the exact number of which, of course, is unknown. General Wawro did state that new ports were to be constructed on the coast, along with the founding of a state ship manufacturer. As to the location of that manufacturer's headquarters, Wawro was scant on information. "When the project is finished, these records will be released, in due time."

Beat Brothers head to South Seleya, continuing an already successful tour
Nowogard, May 5, 4421

Image
The Beat Brothers waved to adoring fans in Rechtenburg, in Mordusia, kicking off their tour of south Seleya.

With stops in Likatonia, Lodamun, and their most adoring foreign country, Kalistan, the Beat Brothers left the north and landed in the south today, in Mordusia. Fans galore were present, so much so that local police were having trouble trying to contain them! Getting close up to the windows, it certainly was a sight for the bandmembers. "They were hollering, shouting at the top of their lungs, clawing at the windows... Certainly a sight to see." Hanuszek remarked. Nonetheless the rest of their tour went off without a hitch, playing a concert in downtown Rechtenburg that was broadcast to millions of Mordusians. Playing signature tracks from their new album as well as their previous one, the crowds went wild. But Pawlik and Hanuszek didn't forget the true meaning of the tour. Immediately after finishing their hit song "All my Desires", the two encouraged their fans to donate to local cleanup efforts in Jelbania as well as the families of those who were lost in the nuclear explosion. "We encourage as many of you out there to donate to the brave people in Jelbania cleaning up the aftermath of that awful nuclear attack. Not just them but their families as well. Quite a few of them have unfortunately already passed away." Reports are coming in that local cleanup companies in Jelbania have already received donations in the hundreds of thousands. The band is likely to play a few other venues in Mordusia before trekking into the Canrillaise nations of Alduria, Rildanor, and Kanjor & La Trondelle. When asked about a possible trip to Indrala, historically the undisputed champion of YingPop, Hanuszek replied with a grin, slyly saying "A champion's got to retire sometime, doesn't he?"

Hel FC Wraps Up Season with Emphatic Win Over Legia Czerwionka
Hel, August 9th, 4421
Story By: Tadeusz Konieczko
Image
Confetti flies as the successful outfit from Hel celebrates their league title win.

On a trip just north of Blatunowice, Hel sealed their latest Ekstraklasa title. After a slow start, it was plain sailing for Antoni de Vries' men as title number 127 was secured. Despite a slow start, Hel FC's sixth successive Ekstraklasa title was never really in doubt. A comical own goal from François Parolin threatened to spoil the party for the visitors — the ball clattering in off the defender's face after August Rembrandt's slip let Legia Czewionka's Dariusz Muliński in to take a shot. But the home side's positive start was little more than that, as Hel turned on the style after the opening half an hour. Janek Szpik crossed for Nicolai Lund to head in, before Szpik delivered a low ball six minutes later that striker Alex Martinez smartly tucked away at the far post. The devastating double all but ended Czerwionka's attempts to spoil the party. In the second half, Mateo Sanchez smashed home a half volley after the home side only half cleared a free kick. Late on, Sam Chamberlain headed home from a corner to get the celebrations in full swing. The loss to Hel FC all but confirmed FC Czerwionka's consignment to a relegation playoff.

FC Białograd, Hel's main rivals in Valruzia, led a spirited campaign as well, only to be denied in the last few weeks by a series of poor results which gifted the title to the club from Chynberg. They can take some solace knowing that their participation in the USFA Champion's League next year will be guaranteed, and that their star striker, Vanuku international Eddie Vrnsk, will be likely to follow up his reputation as this season's top goalscorer, finding the back of the net 27 times. TKS Traczengrad and BKS Blatunowice have also qualified for the UCL.

Poor performances all around have left FC Bewierzów at the foot of the table and relegated into the 2nd League. Having sacked their manager, Francis Halles de Renard, half-way through the season, the resulting upheaval left the club scrambling for results. This will be the first time that Bewierzów have ever been relegated in their history in the top flight. Fighting for their spot in the relegation playoffs are Legia Czerwionka, whose injury-striken season has taken a toll on the club's performance, as well as FC Brzańsk, who had been promoted up from Liga I just last season. They will play against Liga I runner-ups Valruz Berej and third-placed FK Godno. Liga I champions Kamus FC have secured promotion into the Ekstraklasa.

League action will resume in Valruzia after the 4422 Seleyan Championships take place early next year. The official draw for the location is yet to be determined.

Beat Brothers land in Indrala on last leg of Seleya tour
Tian'an, July 19, 4422

Image
The four Valruzian bandmembers pose for a photo op on their night out in Tian'an.

Indrala, the undisputed capital of YingPop, a music phenomenon that has hardly been able to be beaten out by foreign artists was given a rude awakening tonight as scores of Indralans came to see the Valruzian band as they landed at Tian'an International. Lead singer Hanuszek Leminski states that the ferocity of the crowd even rivaled that of Mordusia, of which he described as "Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if the Mordusian girls were fainting with excitement. Here? I fear that some of them could get knocked into a coma! [Hanuszek chuckles.]" Hanuszek went on to also quip that Indrala may be the longest stop, as it was the last. The four toured the sprawling architecture of downtown Tian'an, with local police shooing away scores of fans who followed them. Pawlik Mareczek marveled at the rich culture of the nation, sampling native food and admiring ancient art. "I never fashioned myself as one of those bookish types, but with such a place like this, all this deep culture, tradition... It's a once in a lifetime opportunity, at least for me." The four were originally supposed to arrive several hours earlier, during the day, but delays after wrapping up their tour Kanjor & La Trondelle set their arrival back, also causing a delay of their concert. The Beat Brothers are set to perform at a concert hall within Tian'an tomorrow, and subsequently other locations across Indrala over the next two months, before heading back to Valruzia.

Valruzian Armaments Group begins work on naval port expansion
Nowogard, 15 December, 4422
Image
Soldiers manage a port in Knińsk.

NOWOGARD - Today "Project Phoenix" has seemingly taken off with a public works project unlike anything ever seen in recent decades. Under jurisdiction from Defense Minister Wawro, several ports are being retrofitted to serve as both storage for ships as well as construction facilities. "We want the new naval infrastructure to construct a ship in a few years's time and then immediately christen it into the waters." But as General Wawro stated to reporters, this is merely the start. "There isn't much information I can give, as the Project is somewhat classified, but this port revitalization project is merely the start. I surmise that our new navy will be a mix of bought and assembled ships." As to where the ships were possibly going to be bought from, the Defense Minister suggested Kazulia. "They boast the largest military budget in east Terra and it would seem only natural. But alongside purchases, we shall partially construct our own naval forces, mainly coming from selections of ports in Knińsk, and a couple of locations in Gryfit."

This naval revitalization has come at the expense of numerous budget cuts and increases, most notably a 30 billion increase to the Ministry of Defense, with cuts mainly being given to the Ministry of Culture. Many have lashed out at the SdPR, of who Defense Minister Wawro is a member of. When pressed by Valruzia Daily, General Wawro was reassuring, but defended his negotiations with the Minister of Finance: "The current terms are only temporary. But corporations must pay their fair share to society. I may be a military officer, but I can be a dedicated social democrat as well." When that date where the current tax cuts and raises will be changed has yet to be seen, however.
