THE ISTALIAN PRESIDENT IS IN VALRUZIA

The Istalian President arrived in Valruzia, which is one of the legs of the last foreign tour in his second term. When he landed in the capital, Nowogard, he was greeted by a large crowd of Valruzians, ready to see the President. Lepera, however, wished to be discreet during his visit, and as such, after greeting a few members of the crowd, he went to the hotel, and later attended a meeting with President Milański.
After the sunset, he went to a spontaneously organized meeting in a local bar (typical of him), which gathered a pretty big crowd (accompanied by a few Istalian soldiers), that wanted to ask the Istalian Head of State a few questions.

END OF THE CRISIS WITH LIKATONIA ON THE HORIZON

Recent elections in Likatonia may be the first step to end the border crisis which erupted almost 2 years ago.

NOWOGARD - For the last 23 months bilateral relations between Valruzia and Likatonia have been exposed to the most serious crisis in decades, and now finally it seems like the reconciliation between Nowogard and Clovisport is finally on the horizon. Newly elected President of the Federal Republic of Likatonia Louis Thibodeaux, who served as the special envoy of the Likatonian government, decided to end the crisis and reached out to Nowogard with an offer which has been accepted by the Valruzian Government. LIkatonian-deployed troops to the border region in East Bolton and Norwalk are expected to be withdrawn and replaced with border guards. Valruzian Government refused to confirm whether it will repeal its recent decision to deploy additional 3.000 Border Patrol officers to the border with Likatonia in Kampania and Chynberg Voivodeships. According to the sources from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the possible decision will be made in 3 years. Ministry for Foreign Affairs informed that it proposed Nowogard to be the newly elected Liktonian President's first international trip. During a meeting with the President of the Council of Ministers, Likatonian President could negotiate on the shape of Valruzo-Likatonian bilateral relations. Nowogard pressures Clovisport on the resolution of Likatonian participation within the Seleyan Union, as Likatonian Government unilaterally withdrawn from the SU and NSEC. For Clovisport this issue is closed, but the Valruzian Government wants the Likatonian Government to hold a nationwide referendum on the Likatonian Participation in the aforementioned organizations.

HISTORY OF THE CRISIS

In October 4348 Likatonian President Michael Walker after his re-election for the highest office in Likatonia in a speech accused Valruzia of allegedly stationing 100.000 soldiers on the border between Likatonia and Valruzia. In December he reached out to the Government in Nowogard with a falsified accusation against Valruzia. Nowogard immediately dismissed Walker's accusations and demanded a public apology. Valruzian Prime Minister commented the situation with a short statement, calling it a regrettable misunderstanding which will put a shadow on the bilateral relations between Likatonia and Valruzia which have been splendid for the last couple of decades. After failing to achieve its goals, Clovisport decided to unilaterally withdraw from the SU and NSEC, which only deepened the crisis with Nowogard. To better secure its northern border Valruzia deployed additional 3.000 Border Patrol officers to the border with Likatonia. Diplomatic and consular buildings belonging to the Federal Republic of Likatonia have been ceasing and placed under the deposition of the State Treasury. Political commentator define the crisis as a humiliation of the Likatonian Government and the now former President Michael Walker.

The "Million Peso Smile" of National Committee Chairman Józef Niemczyk

The Partia Sojaldemokratczna Pracowiknów, or Social Democratic Workers Party, has recently been formed by Józef Niemczyk, as well as former members of the Progressive and Liberal factions of the now-defunct Partia Koalicji Narodowej. Valruzia Daily was able to attend the founding conference of the party, and were able to conduct a brief interview with Niemczyk. The party hopes to apply social democratic principles and what their leader calls "Soft Metzism" to key government agencies. The party currently hopes to introduce legislature to the Sejm on subsidies for low income citizens in regards to healthcare, to make it easily affordable to the working class of Valruzia. The young, enthusiastic leader and former actor also hopes to reach out to other parties of Valruzia and hopefully achieve a election coalition with the Partia Liberalna.

What made you form your political party?

We believe that communism is not the way for Valruzia. We saw that already with Dundorf in recent years. Democratic Socialism is the way to achieve Metz's goals without falling into totalitarianism. I want the working class of Valruzia to be more equal and have increased access to basic needs, such as healthcare, education, as well as increasing their rights.

What are some of the core principles of your party?

We advocate for subsidies to lower income families of Valruzia, easier access to healthcare, a stronger education system for the nation, as well as, and I know this may be a bit controversial, but subsidies to tuition for universities and colleges. We have more policies described in our manifesto, which you can reach at our website.

Do you wish for cooperation from other parties?

We believe that cooperation is key. We hope to reach out to the Partia Liberalna and hopefully, emphasis on hopefully, [Niemczyk chuckles] establish an election coalition with them for the Presidency.

That was all Valruzia Daily was able to reach Mr. Niemczyk for comment. With an ambitious platform, but likely easily able to win support from other parties as well as the general populace, it seems the PSdP will do well in Valruzian politics.

NOWOGARD - Valruzian defense industry is continuing to boom, fueled by Nowogard's incentives aimed at modernizing the country's armed forces and develop a robust, export-oriented military-industrial complex. Valruzian Armaments Group which is a state-owned holding which affiliates defense industry companies of all kind has recently announced that it's working on a developed version of the Phoenix Anti-ballistic Missile System which will be ready in approximately 5 years. Recently established Reglair Company which was formed by the Reglair Aircraft Factory, currently the largest defense company remaining outside the Valruzian Armaments Group, has announced that it is working on a fleet of military fighter jets and bombers which will be offered to the Ministry of National Defense as part of the upcoming "Eagle" Programme. Reglair's defense division has also announced that it is working on several defense systems to meet the ever-increasing demand of the military. The company in a brief announcement informed that it's working on at least three different types of missiles.

Together with bigger demand for new military equipment in Valruzia comes the need for more workers for the Defense Industry. Valruzian Armaments Group announced that all 18 companies which are affiliated with it will in the upcoming year provide new jobs for almost 30.000 people. Reglair Company announced that as a result of its reorganization a total number of up to 5.000 workplaces could be established over the period of 2 years. The total value of Valruzian Armaments Group's export in the last year is estimated at 29 billion Pesos and the group's management announced its intention to reach export value of 50 billion in the next 5 years.

In recent decades Valruzian defense industry became popular on foreign markets and thanks to the consistent policies of Nowogard, Valruzian-made military equipment were successfully exported to Malivia, Klavia Okeano, and Dundorf. Valruzia sees its closest neighbours and other member states of the Seleyan Union as a natural market for its products and has stepped up cooperation with them. Baltusia which is considered by Nowogard as Valruzia's closest ally in the whole Union is currently on the aim of Reglair and WGZ which are trying to establish theirs facilities in Valruzia's eastern neighbor.

Just recently, Valruzia's governmental defense budget reached 200 billion Valruzian Pesos which together with annual subsidy from the National Economic Forum of Valruzia of 15 billion Pesos, sums up to 215 billion annually (32.7 billion Lodamun Dollars) placing Valruzia in the top 5 states with the largest military and defense spending in Terra. Approximately 25% of the whole defense budget is earmarked for salaries, leving MOND with still a great amount of funds for the purchase of new equipment for the Valruzian military.

REGLAIR AND VALRUZIAN ARMAMENTS GROUP UNVEIL THEIR NEWEST DESIGNS AS WORKS ON "EAGLE" PROGRAMME BEGIN

NOWOGARD - The "Eagle" Programme is getting closer with every day, and the defense industry, mainly Reglair and the Valruzian Armaments Group felt that it is time to unveil their newest designs which the Ministry of National Defense might be interested while preparing the orders for new equipment for the National Forces of Defense. According to sources from the Ministry, the Air Defense Forces are going to be equipped with strategic bombers, new basic fighter jet which will replace the aging M-14 "Frogs", as well as numerous defense systems to make the Valruzian Air Force better equipped with means to protect Valruzia and its allies. The Valruzian Economist estimates that the total value of the deals within the "Eagle" Programme may exceed 50 billion Pesos.

Reglair was the first to roll out its newest design to the daylight and during a specially held event in its Brzansk Factory showed the press and spectators its three newest planes, including one strategic supersonic bomber, and two fighter jets. The strategic bomber called i101 is Reglair's first design of this type and according to the company will perfectly fit the need of the Valruzian air force which currently does not have any unit of this type. The plane is a supersonic, variable-sweep wing heavy bomber powered by four powerful turbofan Reglair's engines allowing it to reach a maximum cruising speed of 1.9 Mach (~2.300 km/h) and carrying 56 tonnes of payload in a 5.5 thousand nautical miles combat radius. Reglair announced that the plane applies to the requirements set out by the Ministry of National Defense and can successfully carry out operations over the whole Seleyan continent and reach the continents of Artania and Majatra, thanks to the in-flight refueling system installed on the plane. The plane uses Reglair's newest avionics and navigation systems and according to the company the plane is very user-friendly and fully-automated (i101 features glass-cockpit, state of the art fly-by-wire system, adaptive head-up-displays for both pilots which eliminate the need for the presence of navigator - i101 has a crew of just 3 - 2 pilots and 1 mechanic). Reglair intends to implement similar systems in all its future military planes, and already has done so in the two fighter jets presented simultaneously with the i101. Brzansk-based aviation giant set the price for one plane at 380 million pesos for one unit. Sources associated with MOND announced that the government may place an order for up to 30 planes of this type.

During the presentation in Brzansk, the press and spectators were also presented with the company's newest fighter jet. The i215 which, according to Reglair is capable of replacing the aging M14's in the PSO, and will perfectly complete the needs of the Valruzian air force. Reglair visibly based it on WZL's M24 "Lynx" hence the similar design of both planes. i215 is a twin-engine, all-weather tactical fighter aircraft aimed at gaining and remaining air superiority. It is powered by two afterburning turbofan engines designed by Reglair. Engines used on i215 are similar to the ones used on the i101 bomber. Its powerful engines allow it to reach maximum speeds of 2.5 Mach (2.700 km/h). i215 is expected to cost up to 30 million Pesos per one plane. If MOND were to replace the aging M14s, the process would most likely be carried out in stages in which all of the 160 Frogs would be sold or scrapped and replaced with i215s. The plane is characterized by the large percentage of composites used in its design and is equipped with state of the art A215R radar which was specially designed by Reglair in cooperation with Brzansk Arms to create a radar to be operated at speeds exceeding 2.0 Mach at all altitudes and also outside the visibility range of the pilot. The i215 is equipped with a 20 mm rotary canon firing bullets at speeds of 6.5 thousand bullets per minute. The canon V20 "Wampir" is also a new design from Reglair which is intending to use it in its future designs. Thanks to plane's modularity and relatively easy maintenance it is expected to successfully defend the territory of Valruzia and its allies.

The third and last plane presented by Reglair was the i210 - close air support and ground attack straight wing aircraft, powered by two turbofan engines, the same used in Reglair's smallest passenger airliner the i1. It is Reglair's alternative for P1 Wolverine (small, turbo-prop close air support plane) and the company hopes that the PSO will find many uses for the plane especially as the Valruzian air force currently lacks the plane of this type in its fleet. It is exceptionally equipped with a 30 mm V30 "Demon"cannon designed simultaneously with the V20 "Wampir" but accordingly to the Brzansk giant, it will be only fitted on the i210. With engines of this kind fitted on the plane the maximum speed of this unit is only 870 km/h which according to Reglair is enough to provide close air support and carry out attacks on ground aims. Reglair announced that the plane will come with a price tag of 20 million per plane. Sources affiliated with MOND informed that the "Eagle" Programme could include as much as 60 i210 planes.

NEW CABINET FORMED, January 4354

Party Center, Patriot's Time and Social-Democratic party formed the new government. PC owns Head of Government, Ministry of the Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of the Internal affairs. CP controls Ministries of Defence, Finances, Justice and Trade and Industry, while SdPR owns Ministries of Infrastructure and Transport, Health and Social Services, Education and Culture, Science and Technology, Food and Agriculture and Environment and Tourism. PC and SdPR still discuss ownership of the Ministry of the Internal affairs and who will be Prime Minister. CP will abstain in this discussion. Cabinet talks probably will end before summer 4354.

SdPR FORMALLY ANNOUNCES THEIR SUPPORT OF THE PC FOR THE PRESIDENCY

National Committee Chairman Niemczyk talks about the SdPR's decision on popular talk show "Late Nights in Valruzia".

After talks from the SdPR and the PC, the party's National Committee Chairman, Józef Niemczyk chose to endorse them for the presidency. In early preparation for the next elections, it seems the party has, at this moment, abandoned their belief for strong cooperation between all parties to establish a firm opposition against the conservatives in the Czas Patriotów. However they refuse to cooperate with the newly formed Komitet Na Rzecz Demokracji Ludowej, citing their strict anti-communist stance as reason to do so. Niemczyk also wished for talks between their party and the Jedność Narodowa as well, which have yet to be discussed. The SdPR have also held strong to their cabinet positions, wishing for them to not be removed from the Council of Ministers, citing it as "undemocratic", despite the Czas Patriotów claiming that it was fully democratic to relinquish them from their positions. It seems political squabbling is beginning to develop in our otherwise peaceful nation.

The Minister of Environment and Tourism, also a member of the SdPR, has introduced a bill for introducing environmentalist reforms to many industries in Valruzia, namely fossil fuels. Overall, the middle-aged environmentalist wishes to cut carbon emissions in the nation by 50%. A lofty goal, yet likely able to gain support. Even their opponents in the Czas Patriotów have voted in favor of the bill. Wolanski also discussed injecting more funding into nuclear power, seeing the relatively small energy industry into a much larger, efficient medium. The bill itself contained sections to funnel more investment into greener alternatives, such as solar power and hydroelectricity. The bill also included a ban on fracking, both offshore and inland. Mr. Wolanski put it bluntly: "Simply put, a clean Valruzia is a happy Valruzia. Even though most of the major fossil fuel industries are state-owned, that doesn't mean we can't change them to become greener and cleaner. Let's face it, coal and oil are quickly becoming outdated in a rapidly advancing nation such as ours. With more funds being shifted away from the military and into social programs, this is a tremendous opportunity to begin pursuing green energy for our nation." He also later commented that the private sector wouldn't be impervious from these reforms, with penalties being included in the bill that will concur fines (provided they do not adapt greener alternatives), or possible government intervention, if such a need arises. However, the Sejm's three other parties, have yet to vote yes or no on the bill, leaving it's certainty of passing currently unknown. Currently, the subordinate offices of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, namely the Valruzian Forest Agency, the Department of Environmental Research and Standards, and subsequently its own subordinate office, the Department for the Mitigation of Climate Change, are in support of the bill, even going to say that they would execute the laws in the bill even if it doesn't pass.

NOWOGARD - After the deep reorganization of the Liberal Party and selecting new leadership of the party it seems that now comes the time for the new, reformed party to present its agenda. The newly elected leader of the party Jakub Szwarzentel who to everybody's amazement has decided to nominate Hanna Lisowska one of the party's two deputies commented the recent decisions of the Government and the Sejm. During a meeting with voters in Nowogard, Szwarzentel heavily criticized the recent reforms to the budget, national defense and the economy which he pledged to repeal as soon as the Liberal Party will be totally back on its feet, as it is now struggling with its finances. We remind that one of the reasons for the deep, structural reforms in the Liberal Party was caused by alleged corruption at the party's former leadership. Hanna Lisowska was acquitted but former Ministers for Foreign Affairs and National Defense (Grotkowska and von Ostdreieck) were accused of accepting bribes from the highly positioned individuals from the Valruzian Armaments Group. After a backlash from the majority of Liberal Party's members including the former Prime Minister Hanna Lisowska it was decided that the Liberal Party will withdraw from the Government and early elections will be called in which the Liberal Party would not take part in. One month ago members elected its new leadership, and gave the position of leader to young and charismatic Jakub Szwarzentel, the heir of the renowned Szwarzentel Investments (owners of LOT Group, BFS, FSM and minor stakes at WKN and Valruzian Petroleum). Your and undoubtedly fresh politician is what the party's members believed is needed to give the Liberals a greater shot at winning the upcoming elections. At the age of just 31, he is the youngest leader of any political party currently in Valruzia. He graduated from Business Management and Crisis Management at the National University in Nowogard and Philosophy at the Brzansk University, he joined the Liberal Party during his study and became the leader of its student wing a year later. He was a prominent critic of the bureaucratic character of the Party and entered several conflicts with the prominent cabinet members including Prime Minister Lisowska. After being elected the leader of the reformed party he announced that Lisowska would remain as one of party's two deputies next to Anita Gessler (32) who studied with Szwarzentel. Political analysts say that this move was dictated by the will of the new leader to keep the integrity of the party in place until he manages to build the level of trust of the members who support the former leadership.

During an event organized in Nowogard, Szwarzentel pledged to repeal some of the outrageous decisions of the current government. He mainly criticized the decision of the government to significantly reduced Valruzia's spending on the national defense and left the country vulnerable to external threats. Liberals' leader confirmed that he will reach out to the National Unity with a proposal of cooperation after the upcoming elections and did not exclude proposing early elections if the damaging policy of the current government. He highlighted the fact that with the national defense budget of just 40 billion pesos all programmes of modernization and one of the most important programmes - "Eagle" - which is set to reform the Air Defense Forces is practically frozen due to the fact that the estimated cost of the programme is about 50 billion over the period of 5 years. Szwarzentel announced that one of his first decisions will be to bring the defense spending of Valruzia back to the previous levels or even higher to mend the damage made by the Socialists. Szwarzentel pointed out the programme was in its final stage and MOND has already began talks with Reglair on the purchase of the machines presented by the Brzansk giant. In terms of defense, one thing we can be sure of, Liberal Party will do everything that's possible to repeal the changes, as it follows the policy of the Party of National Coalition which heavily invested in the national defense. Szwarzentel summarised the current budget as "a terrifying, especially that Valruzia from the country with the largest spending on the national defense, became a country with one of the smallest spendings" and that "the deficit of the former budget was acceptable especially as Valruzia can enjoy one of the highest credit ratings in the whole Seleya".

New leader of the Liberal Party has also heavily criticized the environmental reforms of the Socialists which he named "the single worst decision of the Sejm, which if not repealed will put Valruzia into decades of economic decadence". Szwarzentel said that he is aware of the "good will" of the Socialists but he also reminded that Valruzia is also the country with the largest confirmed reservoirs of crude oil and that the "recently enacted decision to practically bars the WKN and Valruzian Petroleum from doing their job must be repealed quickly. Our country is the largest producer and also the largest consumer of electric energy, and as far as I am happy that the nuclear sector plays a big role in the energy production I am aware that this is not enough to cover the demand for energy and that we cannot afford to divest ourselves from one of our biggest assets which are the largest confirmed reservoirs of crude oil". Szwarzentel said that he believes that the policies of the Socialists successfully suppressed the economic growth the former governments fought for and managed to maintain at levels higher than 5% annually. WKN Volantis which at the total market value of over 600 billion pesos is the largest Valruzian company extracts over 15 million barrels of crude oil a day. Szwarzentel said that any form of harsh regulations imposed on the WKN or Valruzian Petroleum will affect the whole economy, especially the transport and fuel prices. Oil extraction reduction is most likely to cause the price increases which will directly affect the people of Valruzia and that the airline industry will suffer significantly due to the higher costs of fuel. LOT Group built its reputation and opened dozens of new routes worldwide thanks to favorable condition on the Valruziam market. LOT Group already announced that if the fuel prices will rise it will be the first rise in almost 20 years and that if regulations provided by the Environmental Reforms Act will enter full might the airline will be forced to close a fifth of its routes. Liberal Party is opposed to any harsh regulations imposed on the economy and Szwarzentel announced that the reform will be repealed as soon as it's possible. When asked about the most important aim of the Liberal Party he answered "We must fight with the outrageous fiscal policy of the current government and of the former socialist government. It is this policy which drags this country down, and I can assure You all that we are fully committed to reverse all of those reforms which are dangerous for the economy. Liberal Party will invest heavily in national defense which is now underfunded and turned the National Forces of Defense into a laughing stock. The money is left stranded in both education and healthcare which became so overfunded that the Minister of Health awards financial grants for nothing... We will end this."

SdPR FIRES BACK AT LIBERAL PARTY, CLAIMS "OPPORTUNITY GOT THE BEST OF US"

Gerard Wolanski, younger brother of former Minister of Environment and Tourism Antoni Wolanski and close advisor of Niemczyk, who was busy with undisclosed matters, speaks in his place.

The SdPR has fired back at the recently reformed Liberal Party at their criticisms of voting in favor of the budget bill which has recently drastically reduced spending in Valruzia's Armed Forces. Józef Niemczyk, the party's National Committee Chairman (NCC) has himself acknowledged the party's blunder. However, Niemczyk was indisposed at the time, so his close advisor and younger brother of recently-dismissed Minister of Environment and Tourism Antoni Wolanski spoke in his place. "We wanted the military to remain well funded, but the great opportunities for social programs seemingly got in the way for us. We saw an opening, and we put our foot in the door, when in reality, we should've let it close. If the Liberal Party wishes to reinvigorate the Armed Forces, then by God, we'll support them. But let us be clear. We are standing firm on our commitment to the preservation of the Environmental Reforms passed by our party. The Sejm voted 100% in favor of it, with all 465 delegates voting yes. The only one not to do so hasn't even gained seats yet, making their vote practically null. Any attempts they make to pass deregulation on such a matter will immediately receive a vote of no from our delegates. If they wish to keep dirty energy, then their party's chairman can have chats with foreign investors to get it out of our country. We are green and we are clean." The fiery remarks by Niemczyk's advisor seem to be igniting yet another feud within our nation's politics, making it clear that the party is wishing to become a firm opponent against the LP's new capitalist-supporting leader. Wolanski also discussed possible cooperation from other parties to hopefully bar any anti-environmentalist legislature proposed to the Sejm, further showing that the SdPR is picking and choosing, and quickly forming political rivals in the process. It seems their belief for cooperation with parties regardless of political standing has effectively been thrown away.

NOWOGARD - Liberal Party's spokesperson for International Relations and Seleyan Matters, and current candidate for the position of Minister for Foreign Affairs Izabella Vinciguerra released a statement in which she confirmed Liberal Party's commitment to deepening cooperation between Valruzia and its partners within the Seleyan Union and North Seleyan Economic Community. Vinciguerra said that it is in Valruzia's best interest to broaden the cooperation in all sectors with countries like Baltusia, Tukarali, Gaduridos and other countries from the southern parts of SU if the government wants to preserve and sustain moderate and steady economic growth. In the statement, the Liberal politician also spoke about the development of the single voice of the Seleyan Union which should serve as one of Terra's pillars of democracy, democratic values and the rule of law. According to Vinciguerra governments of the Seleyan Union Member States' should seek the possibilities of overcoming of tensions arising between them and move to the negotiations on development of a commonly respected catalog of values and ideals which would allow for a proper reaction of the Seleyan Union to situations of democracy infringement by governments around Terra. Vinciguerra said that Member States' shall enact economic and political sanctions on countries which allow themselves for drastic infringement of democracy, the rule of law, and the human rights at the community level. According to the Liberal Party, this would only multiply the punitive effect of the sanctions and possibly force the government which faces economic or political sanctions to reverse its damaging policies. Vinciguerra herself is aware that the path to the possible development of the single voice of the Seleyan Union is long and almost certainly studded with troubles and tensions but this does should not discourage the Valruzian Government from reaching out to its partners in the Seleyan Union.
