The Talmorian HeraldNews from the Republiek van suid-Talmoria
A major press conference was called following several politically harrowing months in the Republic of Talmoria by party leaders in the Volksraad, citing a return to normalcy after a revolutionary time in Talmorian politics. In 2935, Talmorian colonial businessman and prominent opponent of apartheid James Alexander took up the banner of the old Talmorian Liberty Party - first started 300 years ago in opposition to the Hemmingway Monarchy - and together with Asli academic Dhakir Abadi resurrected the political fervor behind the TLP and rebranded the party as a movement against Asli apartheid. The Vryheid Alliansie van Talmoria, as it was called, ran on a campaign of ending the apartheid regime of the NDP and, in a stunning upset, took completely control of the Volksraad in 2935 and James Alexander was elected Head of State. Following the ending of apartheid, the creation of 2 new political parties, and the passage of electoral reforms, the VAT again called for new elections to see to it that all Talmorians were represented. Although the VAT lost their status as largest party to the Huidige Republikiense, James Alexander was overwhelmingly elected as Head of State in a run-off election and together with the Landbou-Christalike Alliensie, the three parties formed a supermajority against the continuation of the apartheid policies of the last decade and caucused together to form a unity government.
The press conference conference in the capital of Vryheidsburg was hosted by leadership in the VAT, HR, and LCA, featuring Head of State James Alexander of the Vryheid Alliansie, the Minister of Government Jocata Torlas of the Huidige Republikiense, and Defense Minister Darryl Sandquist of the Landbou-Christaelike Alliansie. The Head of State took the podium first, accompanied by VAT Chairman and Floor Leader Dhakir Abadi, translating it into Asli.
Staatspresident van die Republiek James Alexander:
Friends, countrymen, foreign guests, I am honored by your presence here today at the beginning of a bright, new dawn for the Talmorian people. A few years ago I was as shocked as anyone was at the fact that, just in the public eye, the people of Talmoria entrusted me to be the head of our state. I've spent the last decade speaking out against the injustice suffered by good people like my friend Dhakir simply for where they were born, not what was in their heart or what kind of people they were, but for something as insignificant as the place that they lived and the culture they held. I was honored to lead my party in legally tearing down the racist institutions in our government against the Asli, and I am honored again to stand in unison with two parties across the ideological spectrum that can at least stand united on this most basic principle of equality. Talmoria is a free and equal land again, and we look forward to turning away from the days of an isolated Talmoria threatened by its neighbors and threatening its people towards a new government with new policies...policies that are to do right for the people it serves. With that, I'll turn the microphone over to the honorable Eerste Minister Torlas.
Eerste Minister van die Republiek Jocata Torlas:
We are proud to have introduced the legislation which has lead to the systematic dismantling of the race-state which once ruled and oppressed the people of Talmoria. The end of the apartheid regime in our great nation is an accomplishment which we are prepared to fight to defend. It is our hope that the rest of the world, and our people, will both see this in the spirit of humanity and goodwill that it was introduced and passed in. Whatever other political disagreements that the current coalition may have, we stand united in our common belief that we are deserving of the same fundamental dignity and respect as human beings.
Defence Minister Darryl Sandquist
Talmoria has long awaited an end to the oppression of the NDP. Its racist bigotry undermined the very unity of the people of this nation and put us at risk of attack from across the world. Today I am proud to serve a united Talmoria as Defence Minister. We will pursue the security of this nation without oppressing its people. We will not say no to you merely because of your skin or ethnic background. Talmoria will be back and better than before.
