Kouyaté Renominted by Democrats
October 1st, 4419

Incumbent Chief of Government Ebou Kouyaté was renominated by National Democratic Party for another term as Chief. Kouyaté has already served 16 years as Chief and will be 81 on election day next March. Despite his advanced age Chief Kouyaté is confident in his reelection prospects and has pointed to his numerous reforms in education and welfare under the auspices the ambitious New Order, a government reform program designed to pave the way for long-term economic health and rejuvenate Talmoria's international brand. If elected Kouyaté has vowed to continue his reforms as well as steer Talmoria towards a more active role on the world stage. In particular, Kouyaté has expressed concerns over the tensions in South Dovani and has responded with naval drills off the coast of Talmoria. Kouyaté also briefly met with the leaders of Cobura and Hawu Mumenhes on a trip west to discuss security matters in the various hotspots of Terra.

Kouyaté will face the eventual nominee of the Talmoria Populist Party in March's general election. The TPP is a newer right-wing party that seeks to dismantle much of Kouyaté's signature achievements and continue Talmoria's bout of isolationism. While the Democratic Party has traditionally been viewed as a centrist to a right-of-center party, the Democratic Party has steadily drifted leftward under Kouyaté and now faces an unprecedented challenge from the right. Despite the challenge, the Democratic Party is expected to win the elections due to its 900 year reputation and superior orgnization.

Newly elected Chief Haile Melesse condemns the Dovanian Union as a disruptor of Dovanian Peace:

Medina and its puppets of the Dovanian Union claim to represent a better way for the nations of the Third World and for Dovani. However, for the past few decades all that Medina has represented is war and bloodshed. The Dovanian Union now is invading New Alduria, a deeply distressing act of aggression. Talmoria can no longer sit idly as our brethren in New Alduria are trampled under the Union's tanks. Talmoria cannot sit and watch as Dovani is consumed by war once again. Therefore, I have asked the Parliament to consider Talmorian involvement in the conflict in New Alduria and to contain The Union's aggression. Talmoria is a peaceful country, but if our brethren are threatened we will not hesitate to come to the defense!

August 4426

The first half of the Talmorail Project, Talmoria's high-speed rail project, has been completed with the line from Neuhaus to Lesako set to open to the public next month. The Line will provide service from the capital in Neuhaus to Lesako, Talmoria's largest city and main port, and cut transit time in half. The line will also provide service to dozens of minor cities and towns between the two metropolises. The project faced serious delays in the political realm with the project's main benefactor, former Chief Ebou Kouyaté, being voted out of office and the start of the Dovani War raging throughout the continent. However, recently reelected Chief Haile Melesse was determined to see the completion of the project. For many Talmorians the opening of the first portion of the high-speed transit line is a symbol of a new Talmoria, and a stark break from the aging infrastructure they've grown accustomed to. The second half of the line, which will provide service from Neuhaus to Minbuto in the southeast, also nears completion. However, construction has been severely delayed if not halted due to heavy fighting near the Talmoria-Ntoto border.

March 4462

Chief Sekai Shekarau voices his support for Talmorian participation in the Noumonde Conflict, shocking his party and nation. Talmoria fell into an isolationist stupor following the conclusion of the Dovani War in the 4440s. Former Chief Nikeese Mansaré was largely absent from international affairs after the war, and as the Talmorian Chief during the rebuilding period, is blamed by critics for allowing the influence of non-Esinsundu states to grow unabated in Southern Dovani. Chief Shekaru, who came to power over a decade ago, has mostly retained Mansaré's isolationist policies. However, Shekarau's recent speeches and addresses to the Parliament has indicated a shift in policy. If Talmoria is involved with the occupation force in the Noumonde, it would be Talmoria's first major foreign commitment in over 2 decades.

Talmoria Picks New King
May 4507

Talmoria's newly elected Gbara (legislature) has formally appointed a new King. Breaking away from the Esinsundu Saksoure monarchy, the Gbara chose Djeli Askia, a prominent member of the country's most respected griot (poet/trobadour) line, the Djelis. The new King is 55 and has some experience in public life having served as the last Saksoure King's official griot. He is also a matrilineal descendant of the first of the modern era, Mohammed I Sidibé (r. 3922-3933)

The new King was required to sign the Kurukan Fouga (Division of Duties) a document which will see his powers and those of his Ministers strictly delineated along with those of the legislature itself (whose supremacy was repeatedly mentioned) Many members of the Gbara feel as if the Saksoure monarchy introduced a period of centralisation which is un-Talmorian according to the Master of the Gbara, Chief Idris Cassama. It under the leadership of the Alliance for Talmorian Traditions hope to reverse much of this by shrinking government considerably and empowering local chiefs and other traditional institutions once more. The new Ministers have however made a lot of effort to assure all that Talmoria remains "inextricably linked through blood and custom" to the Esinsundu world."
