Loyalist troops ring Fortenohfiv stronghold
May 2965

Syldavian forces have ringed the rebel stronghold of Douma, sealing off escape routes and setting the stage for what is being described as the biggest offensive of the year long civil war.

Fortenohfiv defenders repeatedly fired rockets and mortars at units poised in foxholes along the edge of the city, apparently trying to lure loyalist forces into skirmishes before the attack.

Thousands of Fortenohfiv militants are believed to be holed up in Douma, a key logistics base in the Moltus district. But the biggest threats are likely to be the land mines and bombs hidden in the roads and forests of the surrounding countryside.

Military officials say the goal is to seize the town and re-establish government authority, bringing public services in hopes of winning support of the townspeople once the rebels are gone.

Loyalist forces have now finished their deployment along the main routes in and out of Douma, leaving the rebels no way out except across bleak, open land where they would easily be spotted.

The advance was slowed as soldiers cleared the thicket of mines and bombs hidden in wooded areas and along the roads and fought off harassment attacks along the way by small bands of rebels. Two attack helicopters fired missiles at a compound near Douma from where rebels had been firing at the advancing troops.

Troops along the edge of the town exchanged fire with rebel forces. There were no reports of casualties.

Once the main attack begins, Syldavian commanders are eager to avoid civilian casualties, hoping instead to win over support of the townspeople. Officers have been instructing troops to hold their fire unless they are sure they are shooting at Fortenohfiv rebels and not innocents.

Operation Wolfpack recaptures rebel city
December 2965

Located in the District of Moltus, Douma was effectively surrounded by government forces in May 2965. Establishing checkpoints, they sought to ensure that no Fortenohhiv combatants were able to escape the city. It was believed that several thousand rebel fighters were in Douma. Civilians were encouraged to leave to prevent being caught in the coming battle and an estimated 70-90% of the city's citizens departed. During this time, it was clear that an assault on the city was imminent and the rebels prepared a variety of defences and strong points.

With Douma sealed, operations began in June 2965, when Task Force Wolfpack moved to take objectives on the west of the city. While commandos captured critical locations to cut off any enemy retreat from the city.

Task Force Wolfpack backed by air and artillery strikes moved further into the city. Using armour to disrupt Fortenohfiv defences, units were able to effectively attack enemy positions, including the main train station. Though engaged in fierce urban combat, loyalist troops were able to reach Highway 13, which bisects the city. The eastern end of the road was secured shortly thereafter, opening a direct supply line to the capital city, Syldavia.

Despite heavy fighting, government forces controlled approximately 70% by the end of August. Pressing across Highway 13, units moved through the various residential areas while others assaulted an industrial area in the southeast. By November, military officials claimed that most of the city was under Syldavian control. But heavy fighting continued as forces moved house-to-house eliminating Fortenohfiv resistance. During this process thousands of weapons were found stored in houses, hospitals, and tunnels which connected buildings around the city.

The process of clearing the city was slowed by booby-traps and improvised explosive devices. As a result, in most cases, soldiers only entered buildings after tanks had rammed a hole in a wall or specialists had blasted a door open. By December, government officials announced that Douma had been cleared, but that there were still sporadic episodes of rebel activity.

The fighting in Douma cost the Endralonian military 451 killed and 825 seriously wounded. Rebel losses are estimated by the Syldavian government to be between 2,750 to 5,250 killed. Though no important Fortenohfiv commanders were captured during the operation, the victory has severely damaged the momentum the rebels had gained by holding the city.

Syldavian heir born to Endralonian throne
June 2966

Sophia Moltus, wife of King Ottokar I of Endralon, has given birth to a son, the royal palace has announced. The baby boy, who is also named Ottokar, is the couple's first child. The birth of a male heir further tightens the Syldavian dynasty's grip on the throne of Endralon.

The infant's arrival was greeted by a 21-gun salute

To mark the birth the king ordered the release of more than 1,000 prisoners. It is not known whether any Fortenohfiv activists were among them. Prior to the birth, the country's capital, Syldavia, was decorated with flowers, lights and posters of the king. Public squares outside the capital have also been prepared for celebrations.

The End Approaches

Postby joey1405 » Tue Jul 20, 2010 3:05 am

August 2971
The Turmoil is Ending

Years of turmoil have taken a grasp of the Republic of Endralon, and no end was in sight until now. The proclaimed heir by both the Fortenohfiv Party and the International Monarchist League is considering all options now that his planned assault on the Continuing Committee has come to a halt. The House of Fortenohfiv Head has ordered a ceasefire after he received a message from the Populist Party of Endralon. The Fortenohfiv/Hope alliance went to the Council Chambers last week and addressed their concern directly to Prime Minister Regina Jones. The Continuing Committee took a very sudden and abrupt recess from their ongoing session to discuss the issue at hand. They quickly put together their list of propositions:

The Continuing Committee (comprising Freedom Party, People's Monarchist Party, Populist Party and Reformist Assembly) have agreed to make the following concessions:

1) Persecution of Fortenohfiv/Hope supporters to end immediately.
2) A general amnesty to be granted.
3) Cities to be renamed as they were previously or otherwise as agreed - excluding the capital, Syldavia.
4) Regions to be renamed as they were previously.
5) Previous national anthem to be restored or the current version amended as agreed.
6) The legislative body to be renamed as it was previously or otherwise as agreed.
7) And as a final demonstration of our commitment to peace and national unity, THE CONTINUING COMMITTEE WILL BE ABOLISHED.

In return we ask for the following:

1) All Fortenohfiv/Hope rebel activity to stop immediately.
2) The House of Fortenohfiv to forever renounce its claim to the throne of Endralon and to deliver a statement to that effect to the International Monarchist League.

Joseph Fortenohfiv IV quickly declined the makeshift treaty, since it is against his blood laws to concede the throne under any circumstances. The Party proposed that a monarch will be throned, but it will take advantage of the successful viceroy system in place in the Crownlands of Hulstria. Again, this proposal was declined by the Continuing Committee, who posted a very tempting treaty that the Syldavian prince will marry the first Fortenohfiv female child in almost 500 years, Crown Princess Chloe Fortenohfiv. Princess Chloe Fortenohfiv is 6th in the line for the throne, being the youngest at the age of eighteen.

In the future, if this deal does actually happen, several things will happen. The Fortenohfiv-Syldavian marriage will host the Syldavians as a potential House of Fortenohfiv leader, however, the marriage is at the end of the line of succession. On a lighter note, the family will have all of the same respect that is handed to the Head, Joseph IV, and will have access to cash reserves, assets, and most importantly, the recognition of the IML.

We'll keep you posted as this situation continues.

Ottokar I abdicates; Ottokar II rapidly installed
January 2985

King Ottokar I has handed over his responsibilities as monarch and head of state to the eighteen-year-old Crown Prince who now assumes the full responsibilities of head of state as the second Syldavian monarch of Endralon.

“The time has now come for me to hand over my responsibilities to my son,” said Ottokar I in a written statement. “I am confident that a very bright future lies ahead for Endralon with the leadership of King Ottokar II and a democratic system of government that is best suited for our country as enshrined under the Constitution. I have every confidence that there will be unprecedented progress and prosperity for our nation.”

The reason for the King's sudden announcement at the age of only 54 remains unclear. Unconfirmed rumours focused upon the King's visibly deteriorated well-being.

Officials condemn leaks of Endralonian intelligence files
June 2986

Endralon's top military officials have condemned the public dissemination of thousands of secret Endralonian intelligence documents, including detailed reports of clandestine operations carried out in rival countries.

Defence Minister Valerie Smith said she was "Mortified. appalled and angry" at the leaks. "It puts our operatives and informants at severe risk."

Whistle blowing website Partileaks says that there is much worse information to come.

The outfit said that it is preparing another batch of 15,000 documents for release that reportedly include up to 10,000 cable messages from Endralonian embassies around Terra. The information is said to include details relating to arms deals, espionage, sabotage, covert meetings and unflattering views of various national governments.

Endralon pursuing military modernisation programme
December 2988

The Kingdom of Endralon has a launched large-scale air defence exercises, the latest in a series of drills and modernisation programmes.

More than 10,000 defence personnel and the country's most modern types of military aircraft are taking part in the drills in the southern district of Hugalon and the northern district of Zergon. The exercises will involve emergency evacuation, war planning, and reconnaissance and early warning. They are due to last five days.

The exercises, aimed at ensuring preparedness in the event of a potential air raid, will include one live-fire drill and will take place in real-time war conditions without any previous rehearsal. The exercises come hot on the heels of large naval and air drills held on Endralon's east coast last week. A large group of submarines and warships fired guided missiles and tested anti-missile air defence systems.

    959,855,000,000 Luthori
    869,760,000,000 Aloria
    825,000,000,000 Endralon
    257,180,000,000 Kundrati
    221,663,500,000 Rutania
Artania's five highest military budgets expressed in Endralonian Endrals (END)

In recent years Endralon has poured money into its once-backward Armed Forces, with a string of budget-busting increases that have funded the development of a host of advanced missiles, jet fighters and other weaponry. Endralon maintains that its army build-up is purely for national defence and poses no threat to other countries.

King Ottokar II marries
July 2992

Endralon's King Ottokar II has married Kundrati citizen Lucia Aquilina in Syldavia, in an extravagant ceremony that for the first time welcomes an outsider into Endralon's royal family. The wedding took place amid heavy security in the capital that has been decked out in finery for days. Aquilina, with her elegant good looks, has been a hit with Endralonians since she moved to the country and has boosted the popularity of the monarchy generally.

Wedding celebrations concluded with a huge fireworks display

Among the guests attending the ceremony was Consul Atia Caesonia, head of state of the Kundrati Union. The marriage between Endralon's monarch and a Kundrati citizen is expected to further strengthen the flourishing relationship between the neighbouring countries. The Endralonian district of Kundar is home to a very large Kundrati community.

Following the wedding ceremony, the happy couple travelled by horse-drawn carriage in a formal procession through the streets of Syldavia, cheered on by as many as one million onlookers.

Endralon warns Hutori against troop build-up on Telamon border
February 2997

Endralonian Defence Minister, Zlatan Zasulich, has warned Hutori against 'muscle-flexing' on it's border with Telamon, and ordered his top generals to raise the combat readiness of Endralon's armed forces.

Said Zasulich: “Endralon is extremely concerned by reports of a massive build-up of troops and military equipment on the Hutori-Telamon border. Endralon will not remain indifferent to such blatant muscle-flexing, especially when it occurs so close to our own nation."

"Endralon is prepared to defend Telamon's sovereignty by any means necessary, including military action."

"We hope that the governments of Hutori and Telemon, aware of their grave responsibility for maintaining peace and security in the region, will do their utmost to defuse tension through political and diplomatic means. Endralon is ready to extend all necessary assistance to achieve this goal.”
