Khan Dead at 79 Following Failed Witch Burning

BAOFLUZ, Jelbek Khanate Jelbeks have donned sackcloth and rent their hair following the death of Grzkai XVII. The Khan died at the age of 79 of a stroke while presiding over the burning of his great niece Princess Temrmai Seikzsjokaidrsme Grmhiko.

The 31 year old princess had been found guilty by a court of shamans of using dark powers to bring upon the attempted coup against the Khan. She was condemned to burn and at the Shrine of the First Khan, the princess was tied to a stake and firewood upon her...yet she would not catch fire. The Khan had ordered ever more wood piled upon her and she remained unscathed. Attendees muttered of the princess's holiness as it is known that reincarnations of Jelbek deities
and others favoured by the gods are not affected by fire. The Grand Shaman declared the woman absolved by the gods and it is there the Khan flew into a rage and collapsed soon after.

The Khan's eldest son Prince Genzi Grzkaisrmko has been proclaimed his successor. 45 years old and long excluded from public authority, the new Khan pledged to rule in the spirit of his father. He inherits a considerably centralised khanate fortified by the support of the common people and faced with the loathing of the great nobles and:aristocrats. His first decision was to release Princess Temrmai from her cage although she remains in the Purple Palace held in awe because of her apparent invulnerability but feared as the figurehead of a dangerous branch of the Grmhiko royal clan. He also dismissed allegations of the Grand Shaman having saved the princess through use of so called trick wood which does not burn and thus indirectly triggering the old Khan's demise.

Vrn Family Return from Exile, Announce Re-awakening Movement
Speaking outside the Vrn Family home by the Majartan sea today, Eksandr Vrn announced the beginning of a movement to revive the Jelbic state from it's 100 year slumber at the hands of the Blue Horde. The Vrn's are an old high family of Jelbania and direct descendants of the Vrn prince-ling General Shlajka. The family descended somewhat into chaos following the general's death and many went into self imposed exile as a result of the collapse of the monarchy and turn in public opinion.

However Eksandr and his father, Jlemai are ready to make a return to public life. They resided for many years in Rutania, Eksandr, who was born in Rutania, studied politics and history and retained a deep held passion to revive his families' good fortune and drag the Jelbic state with it. Eksandr himself will now deal with the day to day running of his political movement "Re-awakening" whilst his father will focus on the spiritual health of the family and the nation. The movement hope to begin actively campaigning and demonstrating within the the coming weeks. Eksandr did not openly claim to be planning violent action against the Blue Horde and the current government however rumours have begun spreading that he has held talks with senior figures within various militant groups across the country.

Royal Election Rolls On

River Drtéréksrne, Jelbek Khanate The Jelbek royal election has entered its third month with nearly 2,000 nobles remaining sequestered on the right bank of the River River Drtéréksrne. The election which was called in February by Bek Temrkai Azisrmko Grmhiko. Bek Grmhiko is the descendant of the last notable Khan, Grzkai XVII (r 5048-5063) and previously the runaway favourite for the throne. Of the 73 candidates who were nominated, the 12 rounds of voting have whittled the number down to three. The required majority for election is tradition, a supermajority and the candidate with the least number of votes is eliminated. The next round is scheduled for the 20th of May and the candidates that remain are:

Bek Temrkai Azisrmko Grmhiko
A great-great-great-great grandson of Grzkai XVII Khan through his eighteenth son, Bek Grmhiko, 66 is one of the most respected and powerful chieftains in the Khanate. He was the one who organised the Great Kurultai in the hope of ending the lengthy political paralysis that the country has experienced since the collapse of the military dictatorship in 5219. The Bek's advanced age and reputation for liberal egalitarianism have hindered him in the election and he has won every round but never garnering more than 43% of the vote.

Bek Jlekai Sagzisrmko Vrn
The head of the great Vrn clan which has produced several Khans and other political leaders. Bek Vrn, 47 is considered something of a lightweight and associated with more reactionary noble circles. He won 31% of the vote at the last round.

Bek: Grzkai Sagzisrmko Nubajrka
Nubajrka's survival in the successive rounds is one of the great surprises of the election. The head of one of the smallest and poorest clans, Nubajrka who won only 5 votes in the first round has managed to rise to 14% of the vote. The Bek has tapped into a romantic "service nobility" infused instinct, he has pledged to "place the governance of the realm in noble hands and remove it from graceless and failures and other such creatures."

New Khan Elected

River Drtéréksrne, Jelbek Khanate ]Bek: Grzkai Sagzisrmko Nubajrka has been elected Khan of the Jelbeks. The 57 year old chieftain won 71% of the vote with his rivals Bek Grmhiko garnering just 19% while Bek Vrn won just 10%. The surprise result was engineered by dramatic flood of lesser nobles who turned up for the election in the last two days before the final. The electorate of just over 2,000 nobles found itself swollen to 9,000 when as many as 7,000 nobles arrived in fleets of buses. As they rolled in it became clear that Bek Nubajrka and his allies had orchestrated an expensive and ingenious ploy to conquer the election.

Grzkai XVIII Khan

The Jelbek nobility is an extremely large fraternity which statisticians have estimated as numbering anywhere between 60,000 and 300,000 (ie up to 1.5% of the entire population) To be consider a noble, one must be a chieftain or the descendant of one. There are several chieftains with the hundred or so Beks (the great chieftains), several thousand Beije (middle ranked chieftains) and tens of thousands of Tajs who are generally untitled and similar to gentry in other nations. While the Beks control vast lands and wealth, most lesser nobility live in genteel poverty. Some of the looser lipped ones announced upon their arrival that they had been promised "certain rewards". In any case, upon his election, Bek Nubajrka's rivals accepted his victory graciously and he equally graciously invited them to join his royal council with Bek Vrn to serve as Wrntusrljikai (Forward-Souled Person) the head of government while Bek Grmhiko is to serve as Collector of Tributes (Minister of Finance) After the election Grzkai XVIII proceeded to the capital Baofluz where he made his royal entry, welcomed by cheering relieved crowds.

Khan Announces 400 billion LOD Mining Deal With Istalian Consortium

Baofluz, Jelbek Khanate The Khan has concluded what has been described as the largest economic development partnership ever in the Khanate. The Khan hosted a few dozen Istalian mining executives who had expressed interest in exploiting the Khanate's large reserves of phosphorus, copper, silicon and uranium. The reserves are mostly located in the west and centre of the country and remain largely untouched. The communique issued after the conference spoke of a 99 year lease agreement between the Khanate and the Istalian mining consortium with annual production aimed at a minimum of 4 billion LOD and the Khanate earning 25% of gross value of production. The Khan pledged to use the revenue to develop his country's infrastructure and education opportunities and claimed that the deal would create "in excess of 500,000 well-paid jobs."

Allowances For Clan Chieftains

The royal court has announced that it will begin paying "administrative allowances" to the country's 64,000 tribal chieftains to compensate them for what the Khan views as their valuable contribution to public administration. The greatest tribal chieftains, the Beks will receive 5,000 LOD a month each while the middle ranked chieftains, the Beijes will get 1,200 LOD monthly and the lowest ranked chieftains the Tajs will earn 250 LOD a month. Chieftains do perform part time judicial duties and are often the court of first instance for most rural Jelbeks. Many however do not view these duties as justifying what is considered to be large allowances. The Jelbic Institute of Economic Affairs has estimated the potential annual cost of the allowances at a minimum of 215 million LOD excluding the administrative costs of running the program.

Clansmen Killed As Territory Cleared For Mining Purposes

Amsadomura, Jelbek Khanate Sixteen people had been killed in the clashes between the Great Jelbek Horde (the Jelbek national army) and local clansmen in the clan territory of Amsadomura. The Horde had been clearing out the clansmen to allow the establishment of a new uranium mine. The mine is to be operated by the Istalian mining consortium as part of its deal with the Khanate. The clansmen had been ordered to move to a new site some 80km from their homeland and offered some relocation aid. They visited the new site and many of them denounced it as "impossible" and more than two thousand of them returned to Amsadomura. The Khan ordered in units of the Horde and gave the clansmen a two week deadline to leave the site. Some of them left but a large minority of several hundred remained and apparently started to arm itself in defence of its territory. On the day of the deadline Horde units moved in and began forcibly moving the remaining clansmen out of the clan territory. The Horde claims that the troops were fired at and "responded proportionately" leading to the death of the sixteen clansmen. A spokesman for the clansmen claims that the death toll was much higher than reported, giving an estimate of "at least 200". The Horde has secured the territory and the royal court has announced that the Khan intends to continue with the plans to establish the mine.

Khan Granted Authority To Pick Heir

River Drtéréksrne, Jelbek Khanate ] The Khan yesterday received a rather unusual "birthday present" for his 75th birthday. A small delegation of noblemen from the Great Kurultai currently being held on the right bank of the River Drtéréksrne proclaimed to the Khan that the Great Kurultai had decided to devolve its responsibility for electing monarchs to the "august ruler of the reigning dynasty in perpetuity." The Khan solemnly accepted what he called a "grave responsibility" and pledged that his royal clan would always protect the natural rights of all citizens and "l traditional leaders' privileges." Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, the Khan has avoided commenting on his succession, refusing to indicate which of his five sons would be his preferred successor. The death of longtime Wrntusrljikai Bek Jlekai Sagzisrmko Vrn last week led to the announcement that the Khan's second born son H'ansrmko (Prince) Sagzi, 48 would be appointed in his place. The H'ansrmko long an advisor to his father has served on several public boards such as that of the Mining Development Corporation.

The People's Herald of Jelbania

The establishment of the People's Republic

"Today, I announce the new chapter of Jelbek history! The People's Republic of Jelbania shall march onward to prosperity. The Royal Clan and the Khan have been removed from their places and are awaiting trial. Glory to Jelbania!" - announced Boromir Šeged, our glorious Comrade of the People's Republic of Jelbania. After years of oppression, we have risen from the ashes and have trashed the Royal Clan that has oppressed the working class with their barbarian methods, especially when they were chasing women! Expect major reforms to the country as part of the state's program "The Restoration" which seeks to modernize Jelbania and eradicate all barbaric practices conducted and encouraged by the Royal Clan.

The People's Herald of Jelbania
May 5338

The Royal Clan Executed!

The barbaric group of uneducated morons that ruled Jelbania with their distaste for civilization and their desire for sexually assaulting women starting from the ages as young as 14, have been confirmed to be killed by our firing squad as Comrade Šeged reports. "The bandits of the so-called "Nubajrka Royal Clan" have ruled the country for centuries, oppressing the Jelbek working class and hunting women as if they were the prey. It is disgusting to allow such civilization to persist in a modern-day world!" - said Comrade Dzonthy upon cabinet change.

Gay and Transgender cults being shutdown

After it was discovered that the Nubajrka Royal Clan has also allowed misogynistic practices such as M&M (Male and Male) Sex and men crossdressing as women to gain an unfair advantage, the government has ordered shutdowns of any clubs that do not conform to heterosexual practices. However, prostitution is also illegal as our Comrades are already working on eliminating money-laundering sex jobs.

"Besides teaching boys on chasing girls at the age of 14, then the age of coming during the barbaric days, the Royal Clan had no issues with allowing men to have same-sex relationships and crossdress in local tribes that would allow such practice. We are currently working on centralization and are considering banning prostitution and non-heterosexual relationships for they represent a sign of fascism and barbaric tribalism!"
- said Dzonthy who is in charge of proceeding with the reforms being passed by the state and Boromir Šeged.

FA office lodges formal protest against Deltarian naval rearmament
1 November 5353

BAOFLUZ, Prjmor Taghe, Jelbék Khanate Jelbék Támnrtlashjogadsrljiknstaték Mnistr (Luth: Minister to the Tributary States, title for the Jelbek foreign minister) Krsyijmai Mrjkaidrsme Vrnkrt has lodged a formal protest with Čahtica following the announcement that Deltaria will bring the carrier Disuva out of mothball over the next two years. Vrnkrt, speaking with the will of the Great Purple Wolf, demanded that her counterpart in Deltaria explain the necessity of the rearmament, which Baofluz can interpret only as a move to destabilize relations between Jelbe and her southern neighbor after decades of quiet and tense peace.

Jelbe and Deltaria share a history fraught with conflict, based primarily in historic Jelbék militarism and bellicosity which international experts note has long been the source of suffering in Jelbe. Regarded as a failed state by all international measures, Jelbe has expended no effort on military modernization, leading many abroad to conclude that the Jelbék response to the Deltarian carrier mobilization is a chest-puffing exercise born primarily out of fear.

In defense of the Purple Palace, however, experts have noted that Deltaria's move comes seemingly out of thin air. The former Majatran power has shown little interest in power projection in centuries, and Terra's international power axis has shifted to rotate more heavily around the likes of Lourenne and Beiteynu. Baofluz's protest seems largely to center on concern that Deltarian mobilization can only mean expansionist interests in her immediate vicinity, a prospect which the Great Purple Wolf would surely view with concern.
