SHOCK MEETING BETWEEN SOL AND NLP LEADERSHIP
Gadur, Marligantos - Current frontrunner for NLP's leadership election Alavaro Tam met with SOL's leader, Olmos Nava, today, in a meeting that shocked the political world. The closed-door 5-hour long marathon meeting took place in the NLP headquarters in the Capital. Though the Times has been informed that no transcript of the correspondence between the two leaders exists, Times photographers did capture a similing Tam giving Nava a firm handshake at the end of the meeting.
This meeting comes off the back of a slew of legislation being pushed into Parliamentary debate where the SOL and the NLP, nominally two ideologically opposing parties, have had broad agreement.
In an interview after the meeting, Tam described it as "extremely positive, not only for the NLP, or the SOL, but for the nation". Calling the SPP "a do-nothing party", he praised the dynamism of the SOL, and their willingness to compromise - "Nava and I have some great ideas for when we enter Parliament in the next election, that will really improve people's lives [...] the SOL is willing to reach across the left-right divide to get things done, and I think that the voters will respect that."
On Olmos, Tam described the SOL leader as "thoughtful, and bursting with ideas" - "though we might not agree on everything, we both have a desire to change the nation for the better, and not just sit in Parliament collecting our salaries. We are lucky to have a dynamic leader in the left-wing camp, especially in these politically tumultuous times."
On the current internal debate in the SOL over whether to coalition with the SPP or the GFP, Tam stated that "this [was] internal SOL business, and we should not intervene too much. It's their choice really." When pressed for his personal opinion on the issue, however, Tam changed his tune - "if I were to offer the SOL some advice, it'd be to go with the GFP. The GFP is another dynamic party. The SPP's do-nothing politics will be punished by the voters, and I hope that the SOL isn't dragged down with them - they're a party with potential for helping the nation!", but reiterated that "the NLP, will, of course, respect the decision of the SOL", stating that "no NLP member would be happy if other parties infringed too much into our own goings-on!"
Touching on the future relationship between the NLP and the SOL, Tam was optimistic - "I think that we can do a great many things together, and help heal our divided nation".
He ended the interview by stating that "it is the areas where we agree which matter - that is what turns into policy that helps the ordinary citizen. Nothing comes out of the disagreements, but more partisan politics and bitterness - which this nation has seen far too much of already!"
Further reporting will be soon done by the Times on the first meeting that the NLP leadership hopeful has had with another party leader.
Reported, September 4590.
