THE REVIVAL OF THE NLP

Gadur, Marligantos - The centuries-old NLP has once again entered the spotlight of national politics, with a declaration by the Board of the NLP that the party would run in every national district in the next election. Though the leadership of the revived NLP is still in contention, with an internal party election expected after the next national election, the Board, in conjunction with the leadership of the Party, made a joint statement regarding the state of the Federal Union: "In the past several years, Parliament has failed to reach consensus on a great many pieces of legislation, and has failed to reach consensus for a Cabinet to rule the nation. The Federal Union doesn't even have a Prime Minister at the moment!"

Alavaro, who has been adopted by, and who now serves as the spokesperson for the wealthy and influential Tam Family, called the situation that the Federal Union faced in these times to be "chaotic", likening it to the chaos of the Radical Democrat-Communist era of the 4100s. Glancing at the statue of Prime Minister Adrian Tam, the first NLP Prime Minister, who was, along with President Lon Zola, the most powerful person in not only the NLP, but in the national political scene for 30 years during the mid-4100s, Alavaro gave a heartfelt speech promising "a return to sanity, limited government, and the principles that made our Federal Union great" - pointing to his adopted ancestor, Prime Minister Adrian Tam, Alavaro also proclaimed that he would try his hardest to live up to the NLP's legacy of "providing long periods of stability and prosperity in the nation".

The Tam Family, which have long been the financial backbone of the NLP, are expected to back Alavaro in the internal elections for the NLP leadership ahead. With the amount of influence that the Tam Family has within the NLP, speculators have begun to make statements that Alavaro Tam is the current frontrunner in the internal party leadership contest. Some other political pundits, however, are not so sure, with one research group stating that "the results of the next elections may well make or break Alavaro's career in politics".

There have been unconfirmed rumors that the NLP has reached out to other parties in order to establish common ground, and to begin constructing what may be the next governing coalition, if the election goes the NLP's way.The leadership of the SCP has also been rumored to be happy with the news of the NLP's return, as the two parties have shared a common electroal alliance ever since the NLP entered the realm of politics. This rumor, however, is also unconfirmed, and neither the NLP nor the SCP have yet responded to the Gadur Times' requests for a statement.

SHOCK MEETING BETWEEN SOL AND NLP LEADERSHIP

Gadur, Marligantos - Current frontrunner for NLP's leadership election Alavaro Tam met with SOL's leader, Olmos Nava, today, in a meeting that shocked the political world. The closed-door 5-hour long marathon meeting took place in the NLP headquarters in the Capital. Though the Times has been informed that no transcript of the correspondence between the two leaders exists, Times photographers did capture a similing Tam giving Nava a firm handshake at the end of the meeting.

This meeting comes off the back of a slew of legislation being pushed into Parliamentary debate where the SOL and the NLP, nominally two ideologically opposing parties, have had broad agreement.

In an interview after the meeting, Tam described it as "extremely positive, not only for the NLP, or the SOL, but for the nation". Calling the SPP "a do-nothing party", he praised the dynamism of the SOL, and their willingness to compromise - "Nava and I have some great ideas for when we enter Parliament in the next election, that will really improve people's lives [...] the SOL is willing to reach across the left-right divide to get things done, and I think that the voters will respect that."

On Olmos, Tam described the SOL leader as "thoughtful, and bursting with ideas" - "though we might not agree on everything, we both have a desire to change the nation for the better, and not just sit in Parliament collecting our salaries. We are lucky to have a dynamic leader in the left-wing camp, especially in these politically tumultuous times."

On the current internal debate in the SOL over whether to coalition with the SPP or the GFP, Tam stated that "this [was] internal SOL business, and we should not intervene too much. It's their choice really." When pressed for his personal opinion on the issue, however, Tam changed his tune - "if I were to offer the SOL some advice, it'd be to go with the GFP. The GFP is another dynamic party. The SPP's do-nothing politics will be punished by the voters, and I hope that the SOL isn't dragged down with them - they're a party with potential for helping the nation!", but reiterated that "the NLP, will, of course, respect the decision of the SOL", stating that "no NLP member would be happy if other parties infringed too much into our own goings-on!"

Touching on the future relationship between the NLP and the SOL, Tam was optimistic - "I think that we can do a great many things together, and help heal our divided nation".

He ended the interview by stating that "it is the areas where we agree which matter - that is what turns into policy that helps the ordinary citizen. Nothing comes out of the disagreements, but more partisan politics and bitterness - which this nation has seen far too much of already!"

Further reporting will be soon done by the Times on the first meeting that the NLP leadership hopeful has had with another party leader.

Two Newly Revived Parties Meet in Gadur
New Friendship Blooming or Just Ordinary Cooperation

Gadur, September 4590; After SOL's return to Parliament after many years, they had high hopes to bring upon progressive change, like they did in their past, to Gaduridos when the election results seemingly gave the left-leaning party a mandate. It is to their surprise then, that they have had major push-back from SPP, so-called Super Progressives, and even more, that they found common ground with an unlikely group, the newly-revived right-leaning NLP. After seeing the common ground between them, especially when it comes to civil liberties,SOL leader and current Parliament Chair Olmos Nava has met with one of the NLP leadership candidates Alavaro Tam. In a meeting of the heads that lasted hours, the two leaders spoke about many issues, mostly on the areas they agreed, but also on areas where they don't.

When asked for comments, Mr. Nava tried to played down the meaning of the meeting. "I'm excited that you guys are excited about this, but in a way this also says something about our current state of politics when two parties on opposing side can't meet without it becoming the news of the day. This was a meeting between two newly revived and rejuvenated parties who are ready to cross-aisles and work together were we can. I would hope for more such meetings between more parties. We don't share a lot, but Mr. Tam and I share a few things together, and I would hope more people would focus on what they can achieve together instead of the differences we have. We are a diverse union of many backgrounds, we should be able to work together."

When talking about Mr. Nava seemingly hedging his bet with Mr. Tam becoming NLP's leader, Mr. Nava was quick to dismiss such talks. "No, I know where you are going with this, but no. Guys, really, look, NLP will have their leadership decision and whether it's Mr. Tam or not is for them to decide, obviously. This meeting was more about SOL and NPL talking together than it was about me and him specifically. Mr. Tam is an electric individual with a lot of ideas, some of which I don't agree with, but his heart is in the right place. He's a great candidate for their leadership, but this is not me or SOL cozying up to who we think the next leader is."

Finally, Mr. Nava answered questions about the government crisis and the current cabinet on the table. "Well, I don't want to go in too much about that. We are obviously in some interesting times when the leftist parties seemingly can't get along. We were hoping for the President to step in and show leadership, but unfortunately that has yet to happen. Obviously our hopes of a leftist cabinet is looking dire when the SPP and LUP can't work together, and when we got so much pushbacks in Parliament by so-called super progressives. It's a decision SOL will be making soon, but be sure that we will not shy away of doing what's right for this country and ending this crisis. We're here, we're ready and willing and able to bring a solution".

VICTORY FOR THE NLP - FOUR STATES CONTROLLED, PARLIAMENTARY PLURALITY! ALAVARO TAM WINS VICTORY IN INTERNAL ELECTIONS!

Gadur, Marligantos - In what appears to be a massive vote of confidence for the NLP in Gaduridos, every Federal State but North Vintalli returned a NLP plurality. The NLP, though only being a recently revived party, has secured over a quarter of the votes and seats in Parliament. The Presidential race was won by the SOL, despite efforts by the NLP to push the SCP to victory. The NLP Board has taken this feedback in stride, and hopes that it can present a Presidential candidate worthy of the Presidency of the Union. Alavaro Tam, then frontrunner for the internal NLP elections, called Nava to congratulate the new President on their victory.

With the stunning showing of support for the leadership of Alavaro Tam, all opposition to his ascension to being party leader has melted away. Therefore, by a massive majority of 83.3% of the NLP internal vote, Alavaro Tam was sworn in on January 1st, 4593, as the Chairman of the NLP. Alavaro Tam has opted to follow the tradition of the party, and name himself Parliamentary leader of the party. This practice, though unusual by Gaduri standards, where party leaders frequently go for the Presidency, has long standing roots in the NLP. NLP supporters have seen this action in a favorable light, with a 90% favorability rating per the January 4593 poll among NLP voters.

Alavaro Tam, even before becoming the NLP Chairman, slammed a Cabinet proposal just two weeks after the elections concluded. The proposal would see the NLP, SCP, and GFP, consisting of 126 seats in Parliament, take the Cabinet, while leaving 124 seats in opposition. This bill is expected to pass shortly, as the NLP has already made agreements with some of the other parties having pledged support for a possible coalition, before the election had occurred. This fulfills the first manifesto promise of the NLP, for a functional government. The NLP was also the first party to place the ideal of a functional government in their election manifestos, though this would be replicated by many of the other parties.

Internal polling is currently taking place to better inform the nation as to the opinions of the NLP voting base.

PRIME MINISTER ALAVARO TAM SWORN INTO OFFICE. PRIME MINISTER TAM CALLS FOR REDUCED PAYCHECK!

Gadur, Marligantos - As promised in the election manifesto, the NLP has swiftly assembled a Cabinet to reflect the will of the people. The newly sworn in Prime Minister, Alavaro Tam, has called for a special budget, where he takes reduced pay, to assist the budgetary situation in Gaduridos.

When asked about the pay-cut, Tam responded by saying that "it is the responsibility of the Prime Minister to solve the nation's problems wherever possible - to put nation before self. That's why we're called public servants, after all! Frankly speaking, I don't need the money. It is better kept in the tax payer's pocket, whether through a tax break or through better social services."

He further commented that "the money is wasted on me - this is the state budget - not my bank account."

Whether this bill will face opposition remains to be seen.

The Gadur Times

BY THE NUMBERS: THE STUNNING SCALE OF THE NLP AND CONSERVATIVE VICTORIES

Gadur, Marligantos - The 16.2 million votes that the NLP received in the 4592 elections was the largest number of votes that the party had ever received. The 25.17% share of the vote that the NLP secured is the largest vote share that the NLP has received since the 4157 elections, under the NLP golden age, under the leadership of Prime Minister Adrian Tam, and President Lon Zola. With 6 major parties contesting the elections, each party, if divided equally, would be expected to have 16.67% of the vote - the NLP has gotten 150% of that. Add to the fact that the NLP was only recently revived, meaning that a reduced vote share would be expected, and this is a truly stunning result for the NLP in the most recent elections.

The right-leaning parties in Parliament have gotten 126 seats in Parliament, and have formed a majority coalition. The left-leaning parties in Parliament have a minority of 2 seats, with 124 seats in Parliament, and sit as the opposition. This 126-124 split is in contrast to the previous 92-158 split, representing a gain of 34 seats for the right-leaning parties in Parliament.

An estimated number of 10 million right-leaning voters did not show up for the second round of the Presidential elections, allowing for the SOL to gain victory in the Presidential race. Experts in The Gadur Times have attributed this to the election's downward momentum for the SCP, and the lack of voter enthusiasm for the established SCP. A common counterfactual in the data room of The Gadur Times is that if the NLP had run its own candidate, with a SCP and GFP endorsement instead, the SOL may have lost the election. This is, however, a counterfactual, and should not be taken as evidence - indeed, it is still a topic debated within the data department.

The NLP Board has also been criticized for not advocating for the SCP candidate enough by some - however, the data trends make this seem unlikely. The decision of the NLP Board to endorse the SCP candidate was made in 4590, far before the elections actually took place. Still, the NLP Board has apologized, in January of 4593.

Data from internal polls have now been collected and will be distributed shortly.

Same - 4%
Higher - 1%

Priorities:
1) Remilitarization of Gaduridos
2) Technological Advancement
3) Tax Breaks and Budget Reallocation

Analysis
The SCP is unsurprisingly popular with the NLP-base, as the two parties have long been allies. The GFP's popularity is lower than expected, given the importance of a remilitarization program. SOL is surprisingly popular for a leftist party, likely due to building of ties beforehand and due to the importance of technological advancement, which the SOL supported before. LUP's high popularity could be attributed to the same phenomenon, just to a lesser extent. SPP is very unpopular, as expected. A flat tax is more important to NLP voters than a lower tax - some are willing to entertain even higher taxes, simply if it means that there is a flat tax. NLP is still very split on abortion, which is an oddity compared to other parties, which seem to have solidified opinions on abortion. Otherwise, no surprises here.

FMR PRIME MINISTER ALAVARO TAM COMMENTS ON THE KAZULIA SITUATION, PROMOTES A SUMMIT OF THE NATION

Gadur, Marligantos - Former Conservative-bloc Prime Minister, and current NLP Chairman Alavaro Tam recently expressed concern over the current situation in Kazulia. An influential voice in Parliament, Tam has been vocal with his denunciation of the new Kazulian regime, and has urged other parliamentary members of the NLP to work across the political divide with the left-bloc in order to deal with the new Kazulian regime, which Tam has said participates in "crimes against civilization".

When interviewed recently by the Times, Tam stated that he believed that "no matter the political differences between the political blocs of the Federal Union, I believe that it is a safe assumption that all members of the legislature, and indeed, the vast majority of the Gaduri population in general, finds the Kazulian situation to be deeply troubling". Tam added that the actions of the Kazulian regime are "repugnant to the Gaduri worldview", and that "the Federal Union, if possible, should step up to defend the victims of this regime."

Regarding the measures already taken by the Federal Union regarding the Kazulian issue, Tam was optimistic. Tam pointed to the vote for sanctions to be placed on the Kazulian regime, where 220 members of the Parliament voted in favor, with zero voting against (30 abstentions from the SOL), despite the vote having been initiated by the LUP, the current largest leftist party - Tam also pointed towards the proposal made by the Gaduridos Freedom Party, a center-right party, which called for military action to be taken against Kazulia - a proposal which has received support from the SPP/LUP left bloc.

In the interview, Tam also floated the idea of a "summit of the nation", in which the current ruling leftist-cabinet meets with the conservative-cabinet of the prior administration, in order to "access Gaduri talent on both sides of the political divide on this contentious issue."

Though Tam is no longer the Prime Minister of the Federal Union, there are currently rumors circulating that Tam will use his capacity has the leader of the largest opposition party in an attempt to mend ties and call for cooperation.

Alavaro Tam is also the MP for Central Gadur, winning his seat in the prior election by a landslide of 63.4% of the vote. The LUP took second place in the contest.

THE PEOPLE'S COURIER

THE NLP AND LUP SET TO HAVE MEETING ABOUT KAZULIAN CRISIS

Gadur, Marligantos - In the past months, the Kazulian regime has gotten more and more authoritarian under the rule of the NCP. The international community has spoken out about the regime and Gaduri politicians have followed suit.

The 2 largest parties in Gaduridos, the NLP and the LUP have decided to hold a meeting about Gaduri foreign policy against Kazulia and cooperation between parties in the Kazulian crisis. NLP leader and former PM of Gaduridos, Alavaro Tam, has stated that Gaduri parties and politicians need to be united in the Kazulian crisis.

The LUP and NLP has supported several proposals against Kazulia. The LUP and their ally, the SPP, has supported the Gaduridos Freedom Party's call for military action against Kaluzia. The NLP has supported the sanctions the LUP and the SPP had put to the Parliament, along with almost all of the political parties in Gaduridos.

The PM, Caitlin Manez has supported cooperation on this issue since it has popped up and in a recent interview, she has said that "the ideals of the current Kazulian regime" did not align with "the liberalism and rights that Gaduri's and individuals all over the world have". She supports the calls of the opposition leader, Alavaro Tam, to step up against the Kazulian regime and defend the victims of the regime. She has also condemned the crimes against civilisation that the current regime has commited.
