AFP SENATOR ASSAULTED AT TOWN HALL
January 4274

Senator Claudius Sextilius (AFP - Sildar) was assaulted by a woman named Silvia Schroeder at an AFP town hall meeting held in Sildar Urbem. Senator Sextilius and 4 other AFP Senators were having a joint town hall meeting to hear the concerns of voters in the state. As the town hall came to a close and Sextilius was leaving, Schroeder began talking to the Senator in what bystanders say was an agitated manner. After Sextilius stated he needed to leave, Schroeder punched him in the face. The Senator reacted in surprise and other remaining attendees rushed between her and Schroeder.

"She was talking angrily at me, about the rights of transgendered people and gays," said Sextilius in an interview after the event. "This wasn't entirely surprising, as many of the people at the town hall had also been spirited in their discussions. I politely disagreed with her, and when I stated that I needed to leave she punched me in the eye."

Schroeder, who is 19, was apprehended by the police of Sildar Urbem and has been charged with misdemeanor assault. In statements to police, she was adamant that her assault of the Senator was justified. While she stated she is not formally a member of any political party, she claimed was inspired to assault Sextilius after hearing the RSF promote violence against AFP members after the recent elections. The Senator is reportedly fine, although now sporting a black eye.

GDP GROWTH LAST QUARTER BUT WAGES FALL

GDP growth for the last quarter was 0.7%, figures released today show, compared to 0.3% in the quarter before that. Economic forecasts for this quarter have been revised up from 0.6% to 0.7%. Forecasts for GDP growth in 4274 have also been revised up from 2.5% to 2.7%. This shows economists think the Alorian economy will continue to grow, in the short-term at least. Economists have also said Aloria is prepared for economic downturn due to careful budget management during periods of economic boom.

However, it wasn't all good news today, especially to those who already feel like they have less money in their wallets. Figures for wage growth last quarter were 2.6%, up from 2.5% in the quarter before, but inflation also grew to 2.9% last quarter, meaning wages have fallen by 0.3% in real terms. The government's target for inflation is 2%, but inflation has grew from 1.9% at the start of 4273 to 2.9% now. Most economists believe inflation will begin to fall near the end of the year. Economists are also worried about the current governments ambitions of leaving the Artanian Union. The uncertainty it will cause could cause the Alorik to drop in value, economists have warned, leading to higher inflation. The Alorik is already at a ten-year low, which is why inflation has increased so much recently. Most economists think leaving the AU now would exacerbate current worries about inflation and the Alorik.

ALP TO TAKE AU REFERENDUM BILL TO VOTE 'VERY SOON'

ALP Senate Leader Folant Owen has told us he will take the Artanian Union Referendum Bill to a vote very soon. The bill is expected to get a majority, as the RSF has said they will support the bill. The bill will also get the support of the AFP and the PLN/NLP. Recently, economists warned of the risks of leaving the AU, but Owen believes they are wrong, saying there are plenty of economic benefits to leaving the AU.

PRESIDENT WEHNERT CONDEMNS RSF FOR INSTIGATING VIOLENCE

After the assault of a senator by a woman who said she was inspired by the words of the RSF, the president has said he is appalled by her actions and the actions of the RSF. Senator Claudius Sextilius was assaulted while attending a town hall meeting in Sildar Urbem. The president has said there should be more security measures to protect all senators, on both sides, from violence.

'The RSF has successfully instigated violence against male AFP senators to further their own violent goals. The RSF, and anyone who supports Mrs Schroeder's actions, should be ashamed of themselves. Unfortunately, these acts of violence will undoubtedly become more common because of the language used by the RSF.'

PRESIDENT WEHNERT OUTLINES PLANS TO TACKLE POVERTY AND INEQUALITY

Image
The president is promising to tackle social injustices

President Wehnert has outlined plans to tackle poverty and inequality, in response to the growing protests taking place around Aloria. The protests, in some areas, have escalated to riots and the police are struggling to cope with the number of people. The number of protesters has reached 100,000 in some parts of the country. Speaking to the public since the first time since the protests started, Wehnert has promised to tackle inequality and social injustices as quickly as possible.

Image
Some of the protests have turned violent

There has been some terrible scenes around our great country, especially today in our capital. Hundreds of thousands of angry people, in some cases rightfully angry, have decided they want to bring our country to a halt. Many, many of these protesters are genuinely concerned about social injustices and falling wages, although the RSF is trying to hijack this anger and use it to promote their dangerous solutions. These people have serious, sensible and fair concerns about our country, but the RSF's solutions are not the answer. The RSF will plunge us into further chaos.

We are offering real solutions to help ordinary people prosper in Aloria. When I first became president, I promised to fight the establishment. That is what I will do, and that is what my party will do. We will introduce a bill into Senate within a week that will introduce a minimum wage, make it easier for native citizens to find employment, lift restrictions on democratic workers' councils and provide child benefit to low-income families. Together, we will make Aloria great again!

Shock Win, Emrys Reinhallt

- Membership vote overwhelmingly for Senator
- Aberbach left wanting at margin of defeat
- Reinhallt: "Success will come, but first we are going to have to have some awkward conversations."

Image

Emrys Reinhallt left the Alorian political landscape shocked last night as he won a remarkable seventy percent of the vote in the race to elect a new leader for the PLN/NLP. Reinhallt, who was viewed as a more right-wing and charismatic choice to the reserved and calculated Aberbach, stormed to victory, despite some pollsters predicting him to lose by the same margin.

It has undoubtedly shown that the PLN/NLP membership want to remain away from the centre, and continue their quest to become the main right-libertarian party within Aloria. "I fear that Aberbach may turn us into the ALP or DA," one voter told me, whilst another said: "Perhaps Reinhallt will be more willing to be upfront and honest about our party's vision that Greenway, who often bent over for the other parties." Whilst it may be risky to pursue a lurch to the right, it is clear that the members feel that their party needs to do more to distinguish themselves in order to make ground in the Senate elections.

PM CALLS FOR STRONG STANCE AGAINST VIOLENCE
As violence has gripped Alorian streets, PM stands strong

Image

Today, a speech was given by Prime Minister Seth John to a crowd of people in Sildar Urbem. In it, the Prime Minister supported efforts by President Wehnert to give certain benefits and protections to Aloria's workers. However, the Prime Minister went further, addressing what he feels is the root cause of the problem:

"President Wehnert and the AFP have proposed important reforms to Aloria's economy which have the potential to improve fairness and broad based growth for all Alorians. While we in the AFP may have minor disagreements with the president on this matter, we stand with him in this time of crisis. I'm not here today to take away from the his efforts, but rather to add to them. We as Alorians cannot stand by twiddling our thumbs as malignant forces in this country continue to promote and advocate violence and insurrection.

"Anarchists have called for class war. These protests have gone beyond 'peaceful'. A member of our Senate has called for doing 'everything,' yes that's what Mr. Schwarz of the RSF said, to depose the rightful rule of our government. Members of the RSF and their allies have called for insurrection, storming the Senate, taking over of cities, and the abolition of capitalism all in the name of opposing a fascist bogeyman which does not exist. It would sound crazy, but it's very real and very dangerous.

"Because of this rhetoric, a Senator has been assaulted. Violence has broken out on our streets. We are in a time of crisis. When does this end? When does the violence stop? Do they seriously want the overthrow of Alorian society and Alorian values?

"We call upon the Ministry of Justice and the Senate to take proactive measures to restore peace and order to the streets of Aloria and protect our elected officials. Peaceful protest, when exercised within the confines of the law, is always welcome in our great, free land. But when protests turn violent, we cannot afford to be so tolerant. We must all be united as one Aloria, no matter our political differences.

"Thank you."

Critics have been quick to jump on the Prime Minister for taking such a hard-line stance, saying the incidences of violence perpetrated by protestors have been over-reported. However, AFP supporters and others have backed the Prime Minister, although some have lamented that his call for action was belated.

Reinhallt Hails New Democracy Study

- Shi Yawen Institute of Democracy ranks Aloria as joint second in Terra for Democracy
- Calls for an end to all violence
- Says, "The RSF must respect the democratic tradition of Aloria"

Image
Party Leader, Emrys Reinhallt used his speech to enshrine democracy, and lay out a new, strong vision for a PLN/NLP Aloria.

Reinhallt has taken a different path to their allies in response to the far left protests that have currently gripped Aloria. Speaking in his first major event since becoming the new leader of the PLN/NLP, Reinhallt called upon the RSF to "respect democracy" and prevent the current situation from spiralling out of control. Unlike the ALP or AFP however he did not condemn or attack the protests. He also used the opportunity to place the PLN/NLP as the uniting vote, saying they would be a commonsense choice for any Alorian wanting a secure, healthy life.

During the speech he also praised Aloria's ranking on the 4274 Shi Yawen Democracy Index, ranking Aloria as joint second in Terra. He pointed to the special meaning that democracy had within Aloria, and urged the parties to focus upon preserving it. He was critical of the "radical left," who he accused of trying to take Aloria back to the dark ages of oppression. Although he was pressed to provide more information on who this radical left entailed, when asked by a journalist afterwards, Reinhallt kept his cards close to his hands, and failed to condemn the RSF for the violence.

Despite the strong rhetoric used by the Prime Minister, and AFP leader, Seth John, Emrys Reinhallt announced that he has received reassurances from the Justice Minister, Eleonore Luxenberg, not to isolate the protesters, in the belief that it would worsen the situation. He argued that whilst laying down the law is important for a safe nation, it must be done so in a way that does not increase tensions. The Justice Minister herself released a comment agreeing with Mr. Reinhallt, and promising that an Act in order to "sensibly" address the violence would be put to the Senate in due course.

Image
Tweet sent by Eleonore Luxenberg, announcing a plan to deal with current violent protests.

Below is part of the speech that Reinhallt delivered in an address in Sildar:

Democracy is something of special importance in Aloria, and it is something we should all cherish. And sometimes, democracy can really suck. I think our party, after the last elections, can definitely vouch for that. However, we find ourselves within this situation - a situation chosen by the people of Aloria - and we have to accept that, and do our best to represent them. The left must respect the democratic tradition of Aloria, and to whinge about the current government; to protest about the current government is not doing that.

All violence must stop. I would ask Mr. Schwarz to encourage those who wish to protest, to do so peacefully. I respect that you are not happy with the current government, and I understand that you are not great fans of the AFP. However to risk political instability over ideology is about as medieval as one can get. What we need is a uniting voice who can stand up and say truthfully, "we represent all Alorians". I believe that we are that voice; I am that voice. All Alorians wanting a secure, stable, and healthy life will have a voice under the PLN/NLP.

VIOLENCE IN SILDAR URBEM AS PRO-GOVERNMENT PROTESTERS CLASH WITH FAR-LEFT

In response to the protests conducted by the far-left recently, many right-wing groups protested today in support of the current government. Parts of the capital turned into no-go zones for citizens hoping to stay out of violence, as police struggled to control both groups of protesters. The majority of the groups represented in the pro-government protest were not extreme, however there were a few far-right groups who took the opportunity to protest. After a few hours, the protests turned into riots, and violence ensued. There were many arrests, from both sides, but the police could not deal with number of people looking to cause trouble.

President Wehnert has condemned the rioters, saying "there was violence - on many sides that is an important point, many sides - and we must tackle hatred of all kinds". He went on to say "the RSF must take the blame for the actions of some of these idiots. Every citizen has the right to protest, but no one should expect to go unpunished if they resort to violence. I wish Mr Reinhallt would realise that". He repeated his claim that he will "make Aloria great again".

As well as the president, the finance minister (and ALP Senate Leader), Folant Owen, has said he will introduce a budget proposal "within weeks" to raise internal affairs spending. He wants to give the police more money to address shortages in frontline policing. Mr Owen said it is the "most sensible course of action" in these "harrowing times". When the president was asked if he supported Owen's suggestion, he said "it is not in the nature of our party to raise spending if it is not needed, so this shows how dangerous the RSF is making our country".

AFP OFFICE IN SILDAR URBEM SEIZED AND CRASHED BY FAR-LEFT RSF PRETESTERS

The situation in Aloria is getting worse and worse by the day. The radicalised Left has begun clashing with the pro-government elements of society and this resulted in a riot in Sildar Urbem last week. Because of that RSF memebrs have been radicalised way more than Schwartz himself expected.

Erik Plobii, far-leftist RSF senator, however is not surprised as he was hoping for this to happen for months.

An AFP office in Sildar Urbem was seized by 1 000 radical leftist RSF members during a riot. The RSF militants initiated violence by throwing a brick at the AFP office window. Then the far-leftists started a fight with the people inside the office. Several AFP activists were left with broken noses, broekn legs, broken arms and many bleeding wounds. The radical leftist protesters crashed everything they could in the AFP office after fighting off the Freedom Party's activists.

1 000 radical socialists later on joined their comrades and continued causing mayhem in the city.

The RSF is actively engaging in fightd against the police and against pro-government supporters. Several on the RSF side were also badly wounded.

BATTALIONS WITHDRAW FROM STREETS OF CAPITAL
End of state of emergency

Defence Minister Albert Eric Kalb has withdrawn two battalions patrolling in Sildar Urbem after violence has largely dissipated. Prif Weinidog Seth John has declared the action a success, and the state of emergency has been lifted. The brief time the military was deployed saw an uptick in arrests of violent protestors and the call for peaceful protests by the Revolutionary Students' Front. This ends a long period of instability in the capital, which has occupied the attention of the government since it began.

"We stand today grateful to God for peace and sanity on our streets," said John in a joint press conference with the Defence Minister announcing the withdrawal of the troops. "We cannot abide any more violence in our cities. Quite a lot can be said and blame will be laid where it is due, but for now it's enough to say that we are thankful to our troops and police officers who dealt with this situation so valiantly. We are also thankful to all those on both sides who protested peacefully, and were not violent. Alorians appreciate civil discourse, not thuggery and hate."

John appeared uncharacteristically tired in the press conference, as did Defence Minister Kalb. As the removal of Senator Eric Plobii's parliamentary privilege seems destined to fail in the Senate, many Alorians in and outside of Sildar Urbem are questioning what can be done to bring justice to the people who had their property destroyed and even faced assault. The Prif Wienidog's words, however, were notably lacking in specifics about what actions will be taken.

PRESIDENT WEHNERT MAKES MAJOR SPEECH IN AU REFERENDUM CAMPAIGN

The president has made a major speech today, in which he laid down how Aloria can prosper outside of the AU. He talked about sovereignty, trade and the controversial AU membership fee. Wehnert and his party have always supported Aloria's exit from the Artanian Union. Wehnert said it will be the best day of his life if Aloria votes to leave. He said it will be "100 times better" than when he became president.

Image

This is Aloria's chance to show the world we are putting our own country first. Never before has Aloria been closer to true freedom, true democracy and complete sovereignty. One of the most important traditions in Alorian history is freedom. The AU impedes on this freedom by stealing our sovereignty. AU laws and resolutions are automatically signed into national law, and there is very little we can do about it. It is unfair and undemocratic that a bunch of bureaucrats in a different country can rule the lives of the Alorian people. The scaremongering pro-AU elites will tell us that despite all of the AU's flaws, we must remain in the AU due to the economic benefits. They say we must remain in the AU because it promotes free trade. The lies they spread will be proved wrong, as I have faith in Aloria. When we leave the AU, we will sign bilateral free trade deals with our closest trading partners in the AU. We will be in a position of strength, and the best part about it is we will not be giving away taxpayers' money to the sovereign-stealing superstate. We will have no obligations to give billions away to the AU anymore - we will be free. Aloria can have a prosperous future outside the AU, despite what the pro-AU elites tell you. They say Aloria can't, we say Aloria can. This is our opportunity to make Aloria great again. Let's get Aloria out!
