Senator Margareta Schuchard has been elected leader of the Libertarian Party with 48% of the vote in the leadership election. She beat Maldwyn Vaughn, who was deputy leader under Melsbach, and Meinhard Wörner to win the leadership. Schuchard has become the first female leader of the Libertarian Party. Like Melsbach, she considers herself a free-market libertarian, although it is likely that the Libertarians will now try to repeal the bill passed by Melsbach that legalised the death penalty.
The results were conclusive. The Libertarian Party wanted Schuchard to lead the party, giving her a large mandate. Her opponents have said they wish her the best of luck in her role as leader and they will completely support her.
- Margareta Schuchard 48%
- Maldwyn Vaughn 21%
- Meinhard Wörner 31%
Mrs Schuchard has appointed Morwen Merricks deputy leader. Merricks is now the first female deputy leader of the Libertarians. Schuchard gave a speech shortly after her election victory, declaring the Libertarian Party would fight for its survival.
Thank you for electing me leader of our great party. It is my dream to be leader of the party I have been in since it formed, and now I have the chance to prove to people that a woman is capable of leading this party, with the full support of its members. First, I would like to say how thankful we all are to Henrik Melsbach for being a terrific leader to us and to the nation. I am delighted that he will serve his term as president, and it means his excellent political knowledge and his dedication to the Alorian nation will continue to have prevalence in Alorian politics. While Melsbach was leader, our country was very involved in the Beluzian crisis. Thanks to the hard work of the Beluzian opposition and our president, the oppressive Beluzian regime has been toppled. Melsbach did a brilliant job of resolving the crisis and preserving peace in Artania.
We now have a lot of work to do. The Libertarian Party is now fighting for its survival. The electorate sent out a clear message - we want change. I now think under my leadership we can offer this change. That is why I will get straight to work by proposing a budget, as well as improving our military strength. I will cooperate with other parties to make sure our military is properly funded and equipped. There are dangers all around the world, as we currently see in Hulstria. These dangers are growing. If we look at Selucia, they are on the verge of a civil war. Aloria must be prepared. I will work closely with the president to make sure we are capable of not only defending ourselves, but defending democracy itself!
