Pro-Artanians Unite Under One Banner
August 4314

Cadfael Wigley the former director of Artanian Friendship Institute has founded a new political movement to advance the views of his passionately pro-Artanian academic institute in the political arena. The Pro-Artanian Coalition is an alliance of several small national and state parties along with a number of pressure groups and associations. One of the wealthiest men in Aloria and Artania, the 76 year old Wigley owns a majority stake in the multinational Assurance Bank along with several other enterprises.

Cadfael Wigley

Wigley said that the rise of extremism In Alorian politics and its legitimatization through the “unhinged rants” of preeminent political figures poses a danger to Alorian democracy. The Schuchard-Bundfeller government’s staunch Artaniaskeptic position is thought to have been the final straw for Wigley, driving him to enter politics. His Coalition has proclaimed its intention to seek a new referendum on returning to the AU in the next decade by making the economic case for Artanian integration. In a globalised world, it is foolish, Wigley argues, for countries to resist integration which would give them a big voice in an ever shrinking world.

On other issues, Wigley has been less clear and passionate. On economics, he has championed a “centrist” Third Way path, calling for fiscal responsibility and investment in education and infrastructure. He also supports Aloria’s role in the global humanitarian intervention in Hulstria, predictably mocking the President for her supposed hypocrisy in solidarity with the oppressed Hulstrians and Third Worlders but none with fellow Artanians closer to home.
To live outside the law, you must be honest.

PRESIDENT SCHUCHARD ATTACKS "ELITIST" AU AGAIN

Image

Margareta Schuchard has once again attacked the AU, calling it an "elitist" organisation, "out of touch" with its own citizens. Cadfael Wigley, former director of the Artanian Friendship Institute, has said he has been forced to enter politics due to the president's Artaniasceptic views. He called the president a hypocrite for supporting mutual cooperation in Hulstria to help the oppressed, but seemingly unwilling to work with Artanians closer to home.

In response to Mr Wigley, the president has said Wigley is "misleading" the public by saying she doesn't care about Artania. Today, Schuchard made it very clear. She supports cooperation between Artanian nations, and she supports bilateral free trade agreements with "friends in Artania", but will not join a political union that puts emphasis on closer integration between member states. Schuchard said the "AU elitists" support further integration and the transfer of sovereignty from the people and from democratically-elected legislatives to themselves because they want to "hold the power on the continent".

I have been attacked by the Artanian political establishment over and over again for expressing my views on the Artanian Union, but I want to assure the Alorian people I will not give in. While I am president, and while the Libertarian Party is in government, Aloria will not join the AU. We will represent the views of the Alorian people. These elites want furhter integration within the AU, further expansion of the AU. They want less sovereignty for member states, less democracy for the people of our country and these out of touch Artanian elites will continue with their aim of gaining more power. They are a danger to the very fabric that makes up our nation - democracy. The AU elitists support further integration, and they support the transfer of sovereignty from the people and from democratically-elected leglisatives to themselves, because they want to hold all of the power, and they want the vulnerable, the oppressed, the very people who should hold the power to have no power. They are out of touch with Artanian people. And the problem is bigger than we thought. Even parties and politicians in our own country, our great nation, want us to give up our sovereignty and to give up everything we have built just to give it to an out of touch, elitist political union. This is why it is imperative Aloria votes for those parties in this country that value democracy and that value the power of the people in the upcoming election.

MRDP Takes Stand Anticipating Next Election
May 4340
Image
Above: Former Maer (Mayor) of Craigtref and current leader of the MRDP, Rhys Cadwgan, speaking to reporters between sessions of the annual panel of the Alorian Artanian Regional Economic Center
With the surprising dissolution of the classical liberal Party Cenedl Am Dim, the newly formed Mae'r Rhyddfrydwyr a'r Diwygwyr 'Parti (The Liberals’ and Reformers’ Party) has been jockeying for early elections to be held, stipulating the likelihood that former PCaD members of the Senedd are likely to desire to caucus as members of the new, liberal and centrist MRDP. In addition, former Maer (Mayor) of the Alorian city of Craigtref, an ambitious and successful veteran of regional development, Party Leader Rhys Cadwgan, has been pushing a hard sell on early elections pointing to the fact that while outside of the Senedd due to the lack of new elections, they have nevertheless been successful in the passage of legislation drafted by party leadership outside of the Senedd.

A former business leader, city executive, unabashed centrist and ardent supporter of Artanian union, Cadwgan told reporters at the annual policy panel of the Alorian-Artanian Regional Economic Center that:
The MRDP will perform well in the elections, whether early or as scheduled, because our strong commitment to global free trade and regional economic development is the best ‘medicine’ for the aches being caused by an economy moving away from agriculturally dominated production. We offer a strong platform of personal and communal rights, both in the economic and social spheres

Further, when asked about the leadership of the country by the ruling Dremiddyd Social Democratic Party and President Arwel Brodrick, Mr. Cadwgan said:
there definitely have been some good improvements and will continue to be areas on which we can improve, but I anticipate running for President against Mr. Brodrick, and hope of course to win said election. The Social Democrats have some issues especially in the economic sphere, websee a lot of caution taking in pursuing a strongly and resolutely pro-Artanian agenda, but these things will be resolved when there is once again opposition and real dialogue in Senedd

Today the Alorian Democratic People's Movement met in convention at Sildar Urbem. Erich Giel gave a keynote address that brought the convention hall to its feet as he criticized the DSDP for their policy of "Dormant governing." He said that "The DSDP has become known for a policy of dormant governing. They've gotten nothing done in this term and recently voted against our bill for early elections. To this I have one thing to say: DSDP, elections are inevitable and you can't stop them. And when elections come about in a year, you will be punished, and severely at that." Afterwards in a press conference, Giel mentioned internal party polls that suggest the newly renamed Alorian Democratic Party has taken the lead in polls.

Blanche Thyes Out Campaigning For Tidal Power // Gazette

Image
Above: Blanche Thyes in Strom.

The leader of the new political movement 'Heitere Republikaner' (Serene Republicans), Blanche Thyes, has today been making her first campaign moves in the shadow of the upcoming election, visiting the city of Strom in Ultram to campaign for tidal power of Aloria's northern coast. Thyes, who is a former financial adviser to numerous pan-Artanian and international companies, was made leader of the minor political party several years ago, but remained in the background until now. Aside from being a religious minority member, and half-Dorvish, she has recently used her party as a vehicle to create the International Stewarship Association, which promotes her support for peace and environmental protection.

Blanche made several speeches throughout the day and attended a number of meeting and lectures at local universities, libraries and member clubs to discuss the need for a Hosian Democratic alternative in Aloria, as three new challengers threaten the massive majority of the government. She called for dialogue with the DSDP and MRDP to support a centrist, third-way movement in Aloria. The HR is campaigning hard on the issues of environmental protection, revitalisation of small businesses and meritocratic governance and economy. Blanche's radical proposals to massively invest in the environment and infrastructure are to be paid for, in her words, by a 'meritocratic stance on income taxation'.

While she may sound left-leaning, Blanche also stressed the need for economic liberalism and a strong law and order force, as well as stringent laws on civil rights and the establishment of a state religion. She said that these proposals go 'hand-in-hand' with the majority-Hosian nation she is campaigning in. Attending a church congregation meeting, she spoke about the need to keep life sacred through major roll-backs on the nation's euthanasia and abortion laws, which she said were promoting a 'domestic genocide of the disabled, the elderly and the unborn'. Time is yet to tell if she will be able to win over the illusive third-way centrist of Aloria, or if her third-way opinion will leave her knocked-down by both lanes of traffic.

Children Of The Spirit Fleeing Persecution Spread Sect Across Aloria // Gazette

Image
Above: A CotS church built by those fleeing persecution, now full of Dorvish, Alorian and foreign believers.

It may have seemed just a year or two ago that the once mighty Children of the Spirit was on its last legs. Persecuted by the Dorvish Government for being a 'cult', and lacking the political backing of their former political puppets the Holy Alliance, the sect dwindled in number from 13 million to between 5 and 8 million worldwide, mostly in the Alorian border region of Largonia, Dorvik. However, now, the sect has new hope as migrants fleeing the persecution of the new Dorvish government have immigrated into Aloria. With them comes their Sudish language and their religious beliefs, which constitute a near-matriarchal, new-age Hosianism founded on the principles of 'spiritual awakening and enlightenment'.

Alorian CotS leader, Katerina von Schwartzhessen, has praised the massive increase in membership as 'divine intervention on the behalf of our religion'. Schwartzhessen has unveiled new plans to build a head office and a cathedral in Strom to make it the 'epicentre of new culture' is Dorvik, and says she is working on creating a large cultural institute in Aloria using donations to fund art, culture, music, theatre, film and architecture 'divinely inspired by the message of Indra and Eliyahu'. The rise in the religion has also created a large rise in hate crime against the religion, mainly from extreme pro-pan-Dundorfians. Local Draddwyrs have actually taken well to the new religion, which is almost a spiritual bridge between traditional religion and Hosianism.

While churches in Dorvik lay barren, temples to the prophetess Indra and the spirit of Elijah and Eliyahu have sprung up in small spaces across the country, as the religion climbs to close to 900,000 followers in Aloria from 70,000 at the turn of the century. One of the converted is the leader of the Serene Republicans, Blanche Thyes, and the CotS leadership has moved from Zitadelle to Strom officially. The Schwartz family that had led the sect has also handed over leadership roles from their own family ranks to more youthful and modern candidates, who they say better connect to their ideology of 'merit above aristocracy'. The sect is also supportive of the HR's new ecological foundation, the International Stewardship Association.

MRDP (Liberals' and Reformers' Party) Relentlessly Hits the Campaign Trail
April 6th, 4342
Image
Above: Rhys Cadwgan, Party Leader of MRDP, talking about his party's plan for Aloria, while campaigning for himself and Senedd candidate Aedan Saint-David in Cydraddoldeb, Caermoel State
With less than a month left before elections to the Presidency and the Senedd, the Mae'r Rhyddfrydwyr a'r Diwygwyr 'Parti (The Liberals’ and Reformers’ Party) is making its case to Alorian voters, predominantly focusing on the states of Caermoel, Gavonshire, and Cymertraeth, predominantly campaigning in cities and towns where citizens tend to be highly progressive in terms of civil rights protection and morality, and where there are many entrepreneurs and professionals, who the party's leadership expects their centrist and liberal platform will appeal to most strongly.

The first six days of the month have been busy for MRDP leaders. In the past three, there have been a heavy quantity of visits within the Caermoel region, where Juliette Cadwalader, a famed civil rights attorney, boasted about the MRDP's success to progressive voters in regards to transgender equality, while Rhys Cadwgan, the quirky leader boasted about an interconnected Artanian and Terran economy that will benefit the region. Thus they have gone to cities such as Concordia, Craigtref, and finally today, Cydraddoldeb. They are expected to continue speaking about issues suited to the campaign trail in the respective states.

However this election will be hard fought. Heitere Republikaner (HT) is likely to appeal to conservative strongholds of the country, and more pro-taxation sectors, while the newly formed Alorian Democrats will likely stave off some more economically liberal members of the Dremmiyyd Social Democrats. However the DSD should not be counted out entirely. They have been in government for years and currently hold all seats in the Senedd, after the dissolution of the only challenging party: a small libertarian one.

HR Storms To Electoral Success // Gazette

Image
Above: HR Leader Blanche Thyes at her party's HQ.

The Serene Republicans have stormed into the Senate with 215 seats, making them the second largest party behind the MRDP. Caermoel and Ultran, the two states with the highest Dundorfian population, went strongly for the Dundorfian-centric party in the elections, with Ultran going to the HR with nearly 60% of the vote. The party also came second in Sildar and Gavonshire, while not officially running in Cymertraeth due to lack of perceived support. 17.4 million votes went to the new party, making up 29% of the total vote in the high-turnout election. The election also saw the massive rise of the MRDP to first place and ADP to third over the incumbent Social Democratic Party, who lost nearly 400 seats.

Blanche Thyes won a seat in the Senate, but also came a distance second in the presidential election to new President Rhys Cadwgan. Thyes came second in the first round, with 17.4 million votes, 29% of the vote, the same as her party received in the Senate elections. Support could only peak at 37% of the vote, 22.5 million ballots cast, in favour of Thyes in the second round, leaving her a distant second to the 38.2 million votes of Cadwgan. Thyes congratulated the new President and wished him the best in office, as his party looks set to have their pick of coalition allies. Be it the third-way HR, the ADP or even the incumbent Social Democratic Party is yet to be known, though talks may have already started.

For Thyes and the HR, this is a massive success regardless of whether or not they enter government. Second party status at least guarantees leadership of the opposition, even if she fails to gain a position in government, and without a fully formed footprint in the public consciousness the party got nearly a third of all voters to cast their vote for the third-way Hosian Democrats. The HR cannot claim outright victory, but it can claim a form of moral victory. Thyes released a statement shortly after it was announced her party had passed the 200-seat-mark, saying that she is 'looking forward to representing my constituents in Ultran, and those who voted for me and my party across the entirety of Aloria'.
