Aloria

The Democratic Republic of Aloria is undergoing the largest corruption scandal in her history. Three ministers being accused of bribery, 2 of them resigned their current offices, many leading figures of the Centre Democratic party (the largest party for decades now in Aloria) and even the current President are all accused of taking millions of bribes while agreeing a business deal of the purchase of military subamarines. This bribery scandal could even been one of the largest in Terran history....

The investigation into the purchase was started by the investigative team looking into the mysterious dead of Albert Conrad, the late leader of the Centre Democrats - the leading party in Aloria, when it turned out that Conrad had knowledge about a bribery which took place some years ago during the administration of President Paul Reagan.

Investigations resulted in the fact that Conrad was killed in order of Neptune Inc, a Kirlawan submarine manufacturer. According to the official investigation results, Conrad was poisoned for "knowing too much".

Rumor has it that Neptune had paid the Centre Democratic party, who were then the office holders of the Ministeries of Defence, Finance and Foreign Affairs, for getting the contract for submarines for the Alorian army. Neptune probarly bribed various office holders and leading members of the Centre Democrats.

In January 2763, journalists and investigators found out that there was indeed bribery involved in the purchase of the Neptune submarines, now almost 7 years ago. The Alorian government purchased 6 ballistic missile submarines from the Neptune N-109 class, worth 452,000,000 ALO each. The order was contracted in June 2755 by the Minister of Defense (which was at that time Centre Democrat John Carter), the submarines were delivered to Aloria between June 2757 and January 2758.

Former Centre Democratic ministers John Carter (Defense Minister), Jackson Brown (Foreign Minister), Robert Reagan (Finance Minister) and former CD-leader Wilson McKinley (from 2747-2756) are all charged for being involved in the bribery scandal.
John Carter was Minister of Defense when Aloria agreed to purchase 6 submarines for the Alorian army from Neptune, an Kirlawanmanufacturer in the mid-2750's.

In March 2763, Brown (who is currently Minister of Defense, but was Minister of Foreign Affairs at that time) resigend his office.
In April 2763, Finance Minister Robert Reagan also resigend.

President Benigno Arroyo, who is President since 2759, was leader of the Centre Democrats from 2756-2759. Although he became leader after the bribery (which took place a year before his leadership), he still was a MP in tat time and insiders say that he knew about the bribery. State prosecutors now want to question him about what he knew of a reported 250 million ALO "gift" Neptune made to the Centre Democrats in 2755, after the Kirlawan company sold the submarines to Aloria for 485 billion each.

The President has not been accused of any wrongdoing. But conflicting statements in which he first denied any knowledge of the payments, then acknowledged that he was at a meeting where they were discussed, have led to calls for him to resign his presidency...

Pauline Bernette Stephenson, Leader of the Conservative Party Issues Statement on the Neptune Scandal

At a party conference held in Callipoe, Krentori the leader of the Conservative party Mrs Stephenson held a press conference to denounce political corruption and bribery claims. She was quoted as saying 'In politics what people desire the most is truth and honesty, not deception and lies. We must ensure that all politics, political parties and political leaders are above reproach. The Neptune affair has been disgraceful and had a devastating effect on the image of some politicians in the public eye. '
She went on to state 'Where evidence of impropriety has occurred, the person or persons involved must face justice. Denials and accusations in Aloria's parliament does nothing to reveal the truth.'.
The statement comes after former President Arroyo lashed out in parliament accusing deputies of 'hypocrisy and cowardice'
'True cowardice comes,' stated Mrs Stephenson, 'from disguising the truth. Now is the time for honesty.'

Conservative Times Editorial/Press Release March 2770

As laid out in the party constitution, a leader can only serve a maximum of eight years as party leader. So it is with great sadness we see the retirement of our first, and most eminent leader, Pauline Bernette Stephenson. Not only has she served her party well, she has served the people of Aloria well and led them into a new era of prosperity.
She will not be retiring from politics though as she is standing as candidate for the Head of Government minister and continues to serve her constituents of the Krentori state seat she represents in the Alorian parliament.

We would like to give a big congratulations and warm welcome to Kevin Lee who will be replacing Mrs. Stephenson as Leader of the Conservative Party on April 2770. He currently holds a seat in the Alorian parliment
representing Kurmal.

Another big welcome is due to Ralph Rogers, the new conservative party deputy leader who will take over his role in April 2770. He holds a seat in Krentori for the Alorian parliament.

People's Socialist Front of Aloria to be Refounded

Today, several leading Marxists have announced their intention of a refoundation of the People's Socialist Front of Aloria. The party has a long history, first participating in Alorian elections in 2211. Since then, it has been disbanded and founded again several times.

The founding congress is expected to happen very soon, to enable the party to build up a profile before the next elections. The Committee for the Refoundation of the PSFA (CR-PSFA) has already applied to the authorities the permission to set up a party. Now, communication with all those interested in participating in the party is being carried out. Already countless local „support committees“ are being established. Many people active in this process have a hard-left revolutoinary socialist profile, which would make the new old party keep in line with its traditional profile. The Propaganda and Agitatoin Commission of the CR-PSFA is already looking for an office building to begin publishing the traditional organ of the PSFA, „Humanity“, again.

PRESIDENT WASHINGTON OF THE CENTRE DEMOCRATS DEFEATED BY KEVIN LEE OF THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY! -Conservative Times Editorial Published In the Democratic Republic of Aloria.

In a shock electoral victory, the incumbent President Washington was defeated by the Conservative party candidate Kevin Hill who received nearly 60% of the vote in the second round and pushing Mr. Washington into third place in the first round.

In other news, the Conservative party won 195 seats making them the largest party in parliament with a massive plurality of 102 which is over twice as many as the next largest party.

Speaking in a Conservative party rally after the results had been announced President Lee had this to say; “These results represent a turning point in Alorian politics. The silent majority of Alorian’s will no longer be silent; their voices will be heard in parliament and through me. We are extremely thankful to all those who put their trust in us and voted for change, and all our party workers and candidates.”

The Conservatives retained control of Ultran, Krentori and Kurmal significantly increasing their majorities in all three states.

The party will now draft a number of international treaties dealing mainly with economics, trade and industry.

In his closing remarks, Mr Lee said, "Aloria is the home of capitalism. Our victory today has shown that. The people of Aloria want fewer restrictions on global trade and they want Aloria to turn a new corner in world enterprise. We will be diligent in our efforts to secure that future."

NATIONALISTS BIG WINNERS OF PRESIDENTIAL AND PARLIAMENTAL ELECTIONS!

Libertia, 15 May 2846 - After a massive landslide election victory, the Nationalists are back in power in Aloria after decades of disorder and dismanagement within the party. On election day yesterday, the Nationalist gained plurality with 195 seats, and their leader James Ford won the presidential elections, defeating incumbent president Robert Gurdon.

Nationalist leader James Ford became Aloria's new President

Ford got 39,50% in the first round, leaving incumbent president Robert Gurdon (Genuine Progress Alliance) and the third presidential candidate Jean-Marie Dedecker (Liberal Conservatives) just a few percent points behind him, so a second voting round was needed. In the second round, Dedecker stepped down as candidate and most of the Liberal Conservative votes went to Ford, who won this final round with 62% of the votes. Therefor, James Ford became the next President of Aloria. It's the first time in over hundred years, the Nationalists have won the elections. The NP's glory period dates back to the 27th Century.

The Genuine Progress Alliance (GPA), the centrist-progressive party of Robert Gurdon, lost a dramatically share of 65% of the seats, after years of plurality in parliament. The GPA's seats dropped to 175, making them the second largest party after the NP. It's clear that Aloria has made a shift to left: the Liberal Conservative Democrats of Jean-Marie Dedecker gained 130 seats.

Allthough it's clear that Ford could formate a right-winged cabinet with the Liberal Conservatives, he said he wanted a 'government of national unity', with also the GPA in it. In his speech President ford said: "Aloria has been quite isolated for some decades now. Aloria must be a big player in Terra again. We are a nation to be proud of, so let us show it. This new government could help Alorians to a better life, a better society and a better economy. I see great things with you, my fellow Alorians, and I believe that together we could work things out."

PRESIDENT FORD CONDEMNS COMMUNIST GOVERNMENT OF INDRALA AND "ILLEGAL" INVASION OF HANZAN

ALORIAN PRESIDENT CALLS KANJOR AND HULSTRIA FOR SECURITY MEETING

Image

July 2846 - Newly elected president James Ford of Aloria, has made one of his first official statements during a conference. In a two hour during speech, in which he talked about his presidential program and his policies for the upcoming years, he also mentioned the crisis in Southern Selaya and the invasion of Hanzan.

"What gives the regime of Indrala the right to take control over this nation? We, and I think every nation on Terra, should condemn this action. I strongly believe that the military communist regime in Indrala, is a treath to world peace and security in the Eastern hemisphere. It's the second time this regime took power and invaded Hanzan. But this is also the last time they will try it, I could ensure that!", Ford said in his presidential speech.

The Alorian government already took measures towards the Indralan government. Aloria shall cut off all economic ties with Indrala until the question is solved. Aloria has a huge share in the Indralan economy, as over 3% of the companies on Indrala are Alorian owned. Further, Aloria has always a close relation to the Island nation, and president Ford also wanted to ensure the safety of the Alorians on Indrala. In an open letter to the Hulstrian and Kanjoran governments, he also asked Hulstria and Kanjor to start a meeting (if possible, this week) to discuss the situation in Hanzan and what to do about it.

FORD RE-ELECTED FOR 3RD TERM

Presidential and parliamental Elections were held yesterday in Aloria. The first round between incumbent president James Ford (NP) and his contenders Aron Schepens (FA) and Catherine Heaton (DCP) were won by Ford and Schepens. Other candidates Lizzie Borden (AND) and Laura Roslin (EP) didn't even got 1% of the votes each. The second round was between Ford and Schepens. Ford won with 52,43% against 47,525 for Schepens. A close elections, but not one of the closest in history. Therefor, James Ford is re-elected for a third term.

Image
James Ford re-elected for a third time as Alorian president

The Nationalist lost 5 seats, but were able to maintain their stable position. They are still the largest party in parliament, but unfortunately gained only a plurality on local level in the parliament of Ultran. The liberal-conservatives from Forza Aloria remained the second largest party, winning only three seats. The big winners of the elections were the Democratic Centrists. The DCP, who haven't joined elections for over decades, are back in parliament, and won almost 28% of the votes, oing from 0 to 136 seats. It's very likely now that the DCP will join the NP and FA in the government. The Alorian Liberal Union remained the smallest party, but were able to allmost double their seats. The Alorian National Democrats and the Eudaimonic Party weren't able to gain some seats, so they remain on 0 seats.

Ford hopes to continue his centre-right policies. a new cabinet with the liberal-conservative Forza Aloria and the centrist DCP is already been proposed. This time, Ford wants to have a more moderate government, but the Nationalists still want to push some high conservative measures through parliament. According to insiders, Ford (64), will announce his retirement after the end of his third term. Rumor has it that Laura Desmond, current Minister of Trade and Industry and one of the hardliners of the Nationalist Party, will succeed him as leader of the NP and probarly also be the next presidential candidate.
