President Henrik Melsbach has called out the Beluzian government for its "vile" policies and positions. The Beluzians look set to vote in favour of withdrawing from various treaties, such as the Anti Slavery Treaty. This would allow Beluzia to legalise slavery, something the Business and Development Party (BDP) has announced its support for in Congress. The Alorian government's position has been anti-BDP for many years, however the attacks on the BDP today from the president were different. Instead of simply announcing their support for the Beluzian opposition, Melsbach went one step further. The president said the Alorian government are willing to intervene "with an immediate response" if the BDP are unwilling to cooperate.
Speaking at a major event today, Melsbach said he fully respect the rights of foreign governments to "govern as they please within international law", however he said the BDP would not get away with persecution of its own people or opposition politicians.
Aloria is ready to intervene in Beluzia with an immediate response to the persecution of its own people or indeed the persecution of opposition politicians. While we accept and fully respect the right of governments all around Terra to govern as they please, within international law of course, we will not stand for the persecution of innocent minorities. The BDP is an extremely, extremely dangerous party, incapable of governing with tolerance and respect. We will not let our friends down - even if that means a military response. I do not take the decision to intervene in a foreign country lightly. In fact, if I do so, it will be the hardest decision of my time as president; that I can guarantee. But we will not let innocent people be killed in the name of the BDP's anti-socialist agenda. Now, I am no socialist! I believe in free-market economics, I am a libertarian after all, but the BDP does not believe in the same things my party, my administration and I do. The BDP believes in an authoritarian society, where freedom is a privilege not a right. They believe the poor should suffer simply for being poor, and ethnic minorities must suffer simply for being a minority. This is not acceptable and if the BDP continues with its extremist, violent agenda I will have no choice but to intervene.
