Image

Qart Qildar, 15th of May 3872. In the early hours of this evening Chancellor Faustus Rufius died peacefully in his sleep at the Chancellor estate at Qart Qildar. As the morning sun shined upon this mourning capital of the Most Serene Cildanian Empire, the Emperor called for an meeting with the Ministers and decreed that he would refuse to appoint a new Chancellor. With the current constitution of the Cildanian Empire only the head of state can propose a cabinet.

The Minister of Defence, Titus Publicola ordered the Imperial Army of Cildania to continue, the Minister said "nothing have changed the priority is to deal with the hosian terrorism".

Ahmadi State Calls for Jihad in Cildania

BIER QASSEM, AHMADI CALIPHATE

Statement by the Ahmadi State:

"Take heed, o Slaves of Akim, for you will only find salvation by abiding to the Will of Akim. We call on our Brothers of the Ahmadi State in Cildania to break their ties with the kufar (infidels) and the secularists and pledge loyalty to the Commander of the Faithfull, Caliph Najeef, and his Ummah (community). The striking of swords is the tune of men and in war is the glory and return of dignity. So come to eternity, my Brothers, come and leave the path of lazy foolish men and join the struggle against the unbelievers.

O you Crusaders, o you tyrants, we will uproot the state of al-Qildaniyyah (Cildania) and you, people of the Cross, and you, the Selucian musrikun (polytheists), and all of the secularists are nothing in the eyes of Akim and you will be over-run by our creeping multitudes, The rule of the Law of Akim will be implemented in al-Qildaniyyah (Cildania), in spite of you. We swear that what is happening in al-Jawharah (Badara) today will happen in al-Qildaniyyah (Cildania). Be warned, o you apostates, be warned, o you kufar (infidels), be warned, o you musrikun (polytheists) for the Soldiers of Akim are at the doorstep of your abodes, ready with sharpened swords, to cut of your heads and take you to your death.”
- It is the rule in war, if ten times the enemy's strength, surround them; if five times, attack them; if double, be able to divide them; if equal, engage them; if fewer, be able to evade them; if weaker, be able to avoid them.

Civilian Government restored
Military regime to give up power

Image

March 3877 - The Armed Forces led by General Sudru Ṡuṡ announced they would return control of the government of the People's Free State to civilian rule, resigning their political offices that they gained as a result of the February coup last year. Many in Cildania believe this announcement comes as a result of the manifest inability of the military to govern the increasingly fractured nation. Indeed, during their brief time in power, the military witnessed a Hosian uprising, a series of violent strikes, and the deterioration of the frontline situation in Hebil. One by one, the internal allies of the government are abandoning them, risking to isolate the regime. General Sudru Ṡuṡ's supporters however contend that the Armed Forces achieved their initial goals with the coup; the Apostolic Army was removed from power, putting an end to it theocratic designs, most other religious militias were successfully disbanded, and the Armed Forces themselves were consolidated due to international support. Whatever the cause may be, the People's Free State prepares for the first election since its victory in the war against Sibilla.

Rebirth of Pan-Qedarism
Ancient ideology reborn

Image

April 3877 - Pan-Qedarism, a political ideology demanding the creation of a single Qedarite (Semitic) nation-state spanning the entire continent of Majatra, is a specifically Cildanian creation, born in the conditions of Cildanian self-identity. Ruling between 3052 and 3100, the Qedarite Republic of Cildania, governed by the Cildanian Phalanx, was the only Pan-Qedarite regime in existence, and after its fall pan-Qedarism was excluded from mainstream Cildanian political discourse and its symbolism was banned. After a brief resurgence in the 36th century, pan-Qedarism and Phalangism was essentially forgotten, and no decent Cildanian would consider expressing sympathy for this movement. Baalshilek bin Shafat, the founder of the Phalanx and the QRC, was branded a monster, his regime removed from the annals of history, and his movement accused of being a pale copy of Selucian Fascism with no roots in Cildanian culture.

But now that Civil War rages in the nation the old ideology once again emerges as an organized movement. Branding itself the "Cildanian Phalangist Party" (Ṡurby Dorkeit Qildarit), this new pan-Qedarite movement was founded in the midst of the sectarian war fought after the fall of the Sibilla regime, and makes the same promise of a united Qedar, free from religious conflict and foreign interference, that brought Shafat to power eight hundred years ago. The ethnic and religious war are likely to provide a significant popularity boost to the Phalangists, with their strongly anti-sectarian message and their insistence that Qildarim, Yeudis and Majatrans are all part of the same nation. The reborn Phalanx is also likely to benefit from anti-Selucian sentiment created by the fallen Sibilla regime, as well as outrage over the actions of the Hebilean Resistance Army and its quest for independence. As the Armed Forces are to relinquish power, the Phalangist Party may gain a significant role in post-coup Cildania.

Personal Union with Barmenia
Queen Sarah placed on Barmenian throne

Image
Coronation portrait of Queen Sarah

May 3877 - In a great triumph and vindication for the pan-Qedarite movement, the Queen of Cildania, Sarah III bitt Taʾōm, was placed on the throne of Barmenia and crowned as Queen by the Patriarch of Kathura. This move greatly strengthens the ties between the People's Free State and the Kathuran regime currently ruling Barmenia, after the close cooperation between the two sides during the war against Sibilla. Barmenia thus officially recognized the legitimacy of the House of Thomas's claim to the Barmenian throne, a claim which derives from the fact that the House is distantly related to the House of Yišsérles-Bunjamín, via Deborah I of Cildania, daughter of Thomas V of Cildania and Abigail Yišsérles-Bunjamín. The House of Yišsérles-Bunjamín itself is a splinter branch of the Beiteynuese House of Yišsérles and the Barmenian House of Bunjamín, descended from Ahmad’s brother and the ruling family of the old Caliphate.

The Cildanian government has also been pushing for the recognition of Queen Sarah's claim to Beiteynu's throne, with less success. Regardless, the two nations are now united in a personal union, forming a unified Kathuran-Cildanian front in the fight against radical Ahmadism, crucially needed in this war against the Ahmadi State. This personal union will doubtlessly strengthen both the Cildanian government, currently engaged in a vicious civil war, and the Kathuran minority regime, constantly threatened to be overthrown by Barmenia's Ahmadi majority.

OOC: Jess, I hope it's ok if I use that image for Sarah. If you don't like it I'll remove it.

Tense Labor and Security Situation motivates Students, Professors

Today students, rumoured to number in the thousands, walked out of their classes in Qart Qildar's National University, along with dozens of professors. Students and professors alike cite disenchantment with government policies regarding labor and foreign engagement. Further angered by a personal union, which Leftist Students for a Democratic Cildania has officially proclaimed to be a move towards further monarchy and lessened democracy, the country's students are thoroughly incensed.

Righteousness Wins
Phalangists gain power

Image
The new government, guarded by the Phalangist paramilitary

September 3877 - The elections of July 3877, contested with the background of a civil war and ethnic and religious violence, brought an overwhelming victory to the Phalangist Party, the newly-formed Pan-Qedarite political entity, which then proceeded to form a government by itself. Calling itself by its acronym Ṡedeq (צד״ק, translated as "Righteousness"), the Cildanian Phalangist Party benefited from the legitimacy the pan-Qedarite movement gained as a result of the personal union with Kathuran-ruled Barmenia. Ṡedeq also continues the work started by the military government, by emphasizing secular nationalism and anti-sectarian policies, gaining a large degree of popularity in the fractured nation and retaining the loyalty of the Armed Forces. Although the Phalangists are particularly popular within the Yeudi and Majatran communities in Cildanian, as the party's ideology allows them to work under a common roof with secular-minded Cildanians, Ṡedeq's victory has further angered the Hebilean and Apostolic resistance to the People's Free State, and the two opponents have moved even closer towards full cooperation, as the Phalanx's secularism has alienated religious Departmenalists, and its pan-Qedarite stance determined more Hebileans to turn to the Hebilean Resistance Army. Reacting to this opposition, Ṡedeq formed its own paramilitary, the Knights of Qedar, gaining a large part of its recruits and equipment from the disbanded Cildanian branch of the Heirs of Ariel, the Yeudi religious militia that fought in the war against Sibilla.

Cildanian Communists Rejoice Over Satisfying Turnout
An expected turnout in the Cildanian election gave the Communist Party a strong minority in the Adyriim (which is the Senate of Cildania). Having gained a 144 seats, this is the largest majority the Cildanian Communist Party has enjoyed since the end of the Great Cildanian People's Republic and the hostile takeover of the Imperialists.

Regardless of the victory of the supposedly far-right Ṡurby Dorkeit Qildarit (Cildanian Phalangist Party), Cildanian Communists are nevertheless, optimistic. However, the two ideologies seem to be in opposition to each other, as the Communists are avowed multiculturalists, and internationalists, while the Phalangists tend to be cultural supremacists and nationalists. However, when one looks deeper, it becomes clear that this seeming conflict is more complex than that, as both the parties share anti-colonialist and anti-imperialist doctrines. In addition, a leading Communist academic, Dr. Itthobaal Xurrab, who is a nationally noted professor of history at the National University of Qart Qildar, noted that "pan-qedarism, historically, has not been far right in its approach to issues such as labour and markets". Such statements, which the Communist Party often takes seriously, suggests that there may be common ground between Communists and Phalangists after all.

Adonibaal bin Hiempsal Mekír, the Cildanian Communist Party Chairman, stated in a celebratory press conference after the election that "the workers of Cildania are the true winners of an election, where the fundamentalists weren't brought back to power, and a large segment of the population has voted to give political power to those who speak out, and defend the spirit of the revolution". It is true, in fact, that the workers were the 'winners' in many regards.

A polling of union members by the Communist Party in Kinonu, Ylrit, Jilsun, and Akeldr (Hebilon was excluded due to the difficulty of polling due to military tensions) has shown that 88% voted for the Communist Party and 6% voted for phalangists. 2% voted for the Cildanian National Coalition, and the remaining 4% didn't vote. Overall, this polling makes clear that Union members, with their huge turnout, are becoming a greater voice in Cildania

Unlikely Candidate bin Hiempsal Mekír Appointed Adon

Since the July Elections, during which a new ideology rose to power, and the old resilient communists saw a invigoration through a youth and labor movement, things have been a bit tense and unknown regarding how the two major parties would get along.

However, this month, those worries are finally put to rest. The Cildanian Phalange has agreed to make longtime Communist Party Chairman Adonibaal bin Hiempsal Mekír the Adon (President). This signals that for the Communists and Phalangists, who are the most unlikely of allies, have become bedfellows, if not satisfied ones.

Adon bin Hiempsal Mekír gave the following words after his appointment: "now that the Communists are in office, the workers are in office, the peasants are in office, and future Cildanians are in office. I will represent the 99% dutifully and slavishly, while working together to find common ground and build peace and reconciliation"

It is speculated that labor reform, income equality, multiculturalism, and state reform of industry will be his top concerns. However, with a war with Hebilean rebels on the horizon, Mr. bin Hiempsal Mekír may have to push those interests to the wayside.

State Speculates Nationalization of Tobacco Industry

Communist Legislators proposed this week to nationalize key industries, such as coal mining, shipbuilding, air travel, and perhaps somewhat controversially, tobacco

Many people may see this move by the government as condoning the action of tobacco usage. It must be noted that Cildania has almost no regulations on tobacco usage.

The government seems to find the nationalization of this industry to be in the interests of Cildania. Yehmaat bitt Baalhaano, a Communist senator, said that she "disagree with smoking and current smoking laws, but support the state ownership of key industries"

Clearly, her party is unified on this, as all of the communist senators have already given a positive vote. The Phalangists are believed to be in the process of deliberation.
