Riots Cripple Cildania
Following the collapse of the Mithadeshet government and because of the inactivity of the opposition, the country has been thrown into chaos by protests and riots. Opponents and supporters of the government now clash almost daily in the capital, government buildings have been looted and set on fire throughout the country, and the caretaker cabinet seems unable to keep at least a semblance of order.
In this climate of chaos, several radical and extremist groups are rising in popularity and visibility, most notably the Pan-Semitist and secularist Cildanian Phalanx. The Phalanx, founded just three days before the resignation of the cabinet, is a vocal supporter of Semitic nationalism, anti-sectarianism, socialist economics, and militarism, and is regarded by critics as a fascist party. Analysts fear that if the government is not able to restore order any time soon, such groups might make considerable gains at the next elections.
