Kingdom responds to rather odd Deltarian condemnation, Yingdalan Foreign Ministry
June 4896 (Backdated)

Haldor, Greater Kordusia - Foreign Minister Clemens Ruhl commented on the recent condemnation by Yingdala and, oddly, Deltaria, a new comer to the international scene as a Communist nation, joined such condemnation. The Foreign Minister confirmed that the Kingdom had indeed sanctioned Yingdala but with the withdrawal of Yingdala from the agreement with Pontesi, had approved sanctions but not begun to carry out the sanctions. "We'll continue to monitor the situation; we've spoken to our Northern Council allies and informed them of our decision. They are sovereign nations and can make their own decisions in regards to implementing or not implementing sanctions." The Foreign Minister shifted the conversation to discussing the recent success of the Northern Council and how the growth of the Northern Council has impacted the peace and stability of the Northern hemisphere. The Foreign Minister welcomed the recent investment of Hutori and Dolgavia into re-building Hobrazia following the intervention to halt the growth of minor crisis into a major crisis. The most notable development between Northern Council nations has been the cooperation between Dorvik and Hutori on the development of the new Graf-class nuclear attack submarine; known in Hutori as the 4900 Class Submarine and as the Graf-class locally.

Officials from the State Security Service commented on a recent news blurb that Fredrick Wilhelm Von Vorhrau, the pretender to the "Duchy of Westmark", a non-existent noble title according to the Privy Council, had no ruling by the State Security Service as the State Criminal Police in Westmark had handled the matter. Oberstkriminaldirektor (Luthorian: Head Criminal Director) Hermina Metzinger noted that the SKP had ruled the death of the pretender a murder and had arrested 37 year old Benedict Ehrenpreis, a member of the radical left-wing Communist and Socialist group "Red Front", as the murder suspect. Metzinger stated "I have spoken to the the leader of the Dorvish Police in Haldor and none of them released such a statement. Perhaps the household of the pretender can square away some details before making such reports." Minister of the Interior Colonel-General (Police) Ludwig von Göthaus noted that he confirmed the reports.

Kingdom's captures Muzal K’alak’i; ends combat operations in Hobrazia
February, 4896

Hobrazia - The Siege of Muzal K’alak’i ended in late January, 4896 as the Dorvish forces from both East and West met up and surrounded the city; the last bastion of hope for the fascist regime in Hobrazia. The 10th Panzergrenadier Brigade crossed into the government district of the city and captured the leading elements of the Hobrazian government, including large swathes of command and control staff of the Armed Forces of Hobrazia. Generalleutnant Laurin Wachtel;, the Military Commander in Hobrazia confirmed the reports that a number of senior members of the Hobrazian government are unaccounted for but are likely to be captured within the coming weeks and months as the Dorvish intervention forces slowly withdraw and shift to a rebuilding phase. Generalleutnant Wachtel noted that the Dorvish government had formally welcomed hundreds of civilian and military advisors from the Dorvish created Regional Construction Teams (Dundorfian: Regionale Wiederaufbauteams) to Hobrazia over the past month. The RCTs will focus on each region in Hobrazia, the most notable development has been the state-building efforts joined by the Hobrazian Traditionalist Party in which have helped develop effective, fair and impartial local government formations across the areas of Hobrazia that were liberated from fascist control.

Generalleutnant Wachtel noted that the Dorvish government had promised loans and grants totaling several billion LOD to Hobrazia to rebuild and would be taking an active role in the re-development of Hobrazian businesses and economic sectors; he also announced that most Dorvish intervention forces would be returning to their formations and original bases by July, 4896 and a number of forces would remain to provide counter-insurgency efforts and focus on the development of a new, better rounded Armed Forces of Hobrazia. Foreign Minister Ruhl welcomed the introduction of Hutorian and Dolgavian security forces into the nation to assist with the rebuild and stated that they would be "instrumental" in the development of a newer, safer security and defense apparatus within the country. This formally ends Dorvish intervention, at least active combat operations, in the region.

Dorvish leftists organise country's first FOMAT entry
2 May 4904

DORVIK: Communists, socialists, social democrats and anarchists in Dorvik have come together to launch the country's first submission to the Festival of Musical Arts in Terra. For decades the country has avoided the world's most popular international music contest but activists claim they want to promote a more diverse image of the country as it attempts to transition to multi-party democracy in the wake of the fall of the Free Conservative Party.

As the first representative of Dorvik in the competition, they have chosen the leftist Liedermacher Stefan Bäumler. For over two decades, Bäumler has lived in political exile in Kirlawa but he recently returned to Dorvik when it became clear that the tight grip on power held by the previous regime was collapsing. For many in the Dorvish diaspora, he is an iconic figure and has served as a symbol of hope for the return of multi-party elections and political freedoms.

The next edition of the competition will be held in Vascania following their victory in the fourteenth edition of the competition in Kalistan. Bäumler has already confirmed that he will perform the song "Du auch ein Arbeiter bist!". Although it a traditional song of the wider labour movement in many Dundorfian countries, it has been used frequently by left-wing movements in the recent democratisation process.

ImageDorvish left-wing radical movement forms political party in wake of political change
Image     24 July 4904

Left-wing movements throughout Dorvik have come together to form a unified political movement in the hope of securing political representation as the country enters a period of social and political change. Following the collapse of the far-right Free Conservative Party, a diverse range of movements and individuals have emerged attempting to direct Dorvik's future. For this reason, the Radical Party of Dorvik has been formed to ensure that left-wing voices are organised.

The party was formed around the existing, loosely-organised "radical movement". As a collection of socialist and progressive groups, the radicals have organised various protests throughout the country since the new political order emerged. At the centre of these protests have been unifying themes of developing democracy, promoting social justice and bringing an end to the country's militarist foreign policy.

At present it it not clear who will emerge as the predominating voices within the party. Nonetheless, Lydia Schlesinger has been provisionally elected as its leader, a socialist dissident who has been living in exile in Aloria for the past decade. Labour and trade union representatives have already taken a leading role in shaping the party's platform too.

In their provisional manifesto, the new movement emphasises robust democratic institutions as their priority alongside support for the working class with an expansion of labour protections. Beyond this they have avoided too much commitment, preferring to focus on points of agreement between their diverse membership. National elections remain several years away but the radicals hope to use the intervening period to raise their profile and spread their political message.

ImageRepublican system of government approved in special constitutional referendum
Image     3 January 4907

Image
In the largest referendum in modern Dorvish history, voters have voted to transform the country from a system of constitutional monarchy to a semi-presidential republic. The vote follows the landslide victory won by the young Radical Party in the previous national legislative election. Despite the success of the republican campaign, the result was considerably closer than expected and suggests that many Radical voters actually supported the monarchy in the referendum.

As part of their election programme, the Radicals had promised a referendum on the monarchy during the first two years of taking office. State Chancellor Lydia Schlesinger was a key figure in the republican campaign along with other major figures in the labour, student and socialist movements. Although the official campaign organisation for the republican side was dominated by the government, there were various unofficial campaigns that attempted to make the argument from a moderate or liberal standpoint.

Early analysis of the result suggests there were some clear dividing lines among the electorate. 58.2 per cent of those who cast a ballot supported the republican side on a turnout of 82.2 per cent- much higher than most recent national elections. Young people were overwhelmingly in support of the republican cause while older generations were more supportive of the monarchy. Likewise urban populations were much more divided that rural voters, who voted firmly in support of the monarchy.

Over the coming months the government will implement legislation that establishes a new semi-presidential system of government in line with the provisions of the referendum. Once the primary transition is complete it is expected that the State Chancellor will call early elections to fill many of the newly created offices. When held they will be the first elections in which Dorvish voters have directly elected a head of state in over two hundred years.

Four people killed after bombing outside Radical Party headquarters in Haldor

Local politician Joseph Ludecke is among those killed by a deadly car bombing outside the national headquarters of the Radical Party of Dorvik this morning. Ludecke and a handful of aides were leaving the party's main offices in the Altstadt region of the city when a vehicle parked on the street outside suddenly exploded, leaving four people dead and three more injured. Local police have since evacuated the area and sealed off traffic access.

Less than an hour after the attack, banned far-right political organisation Freiheit und Rasse claimed responsibility for the bombing. In a statement sent to various news outlets and law enforcement agencies, they blamed the claimed to be targeting "left-wing politicians who have betrayed the Dundorfian race". The deadly attack has shocked the nation and has already sparked condemnation from political parties across the spectrum.

Radical Party leader Lydia Schlesinger had been meeting with Ludecke shortly before he was killed and was quick to express her shock and condemnation to the public. On the political left, the attack has already sparked conversations about the nature of the country's transition to democracy and the attempts at "deradicalisation" following a prolonged period of authoritarian rule. Particular attention has been drawn to the fact Freiheit und Rasse's name (which means "Freedom and Race") is taken directly from the Dorvish national anthem.

Political events from various parties scheduled to take place during the rest of the week have already been postponed or cancelled in response to the attack as leaders seek to appear united in their opposition to political violence. Nonetheless various local politicians have raised concerns about how such a deadly attack was able to happen in such close proximity to a host of government buildings. At present neither local police nor the national security services have commented on the incident beyond confirming the details.

President Kühne advances cross-party animal welfare agenda
          7 November 4910 - Haldor, Greater Kordusia

          Image

After promising to improve the standing of animal rights in Dorvik, President Christiana Kühne of the BfdP has brought the Animal Welfare Act (4910) forward to the Kongress alongside Environment Minister Vinzent Schiffner. The bill, which increases regulation on the treatment of animals and requires pet owners to register their animals with the local government, is likely to receive unanimous support from the legislature after the KDP and RPD both announced that they would vote in favour. The extra-parliamentary DHD has also stated that it supports the bill, leading to a rare moment of agreement between all the Dorvish parties polling at above 5%.

President Kühne, who narrowly won in the 4908 presidential election and is likely to run again in 4913, praised the unanimous support of the bill as a 'great moment in Dorvik's environmental history'. Her 4908 campaign focused heavily on championing ecological stability, with a key focus on animal rights. President Kühne herself has managed a number of associations and charities focused on animal welfare, going as far as to call it the "fight of my life" in 4901. She is only the second president in the history of the recently-established Republic of Dorvik and is set to become the first post-monarchy head of state to serve a full term.

The Animal Welfare Act is the second key piece of legislation championed by the President in her first term, with the other being the Humanitarian & Integration Aid Reform Bill from earlier in the year. That proposal significantly increased the amount of foreign aid Dorvik sent abroad, as well as reforming the Dorvish asylum system to become more accommodating to refugees. The Finance Ministry, under Monica Von Hardenberg, is likely to bring a budget to the Kongress in the near future to further solidify the BfdP's social and fiscal vision for its first term in office.

New Political Party To Build Its Network In Haldor
Liberale Demokratie

Haldor, Kordusia, February, 4911 - A new political party called Minarchistische Bürgerpartei (Luthorian: Minarchist Civic Party) was registered in Haldor, with the goal to contest in the 4913 national elections. The party is a really new entity, without connections to any other former or current parties; this naturally means that they lack of network and national awareness about their existence. Based on the official information on their websites, they're trying to first become just locally known in Haldor.

Their newly elected Party President, Marc Haberkorn, a well-known and popular stand-up comedian, might be the key for the party's success as many hopes. Haberkorn, born during 4870s, was forced into emigration when he strongly criticized the intervention in Hobrazia; he lived in Likatonia until the proclamation of the Republic. His political humour is largely based on the skeptic view on the old Kingdom and the parody of the "old Kingdom conservatives."

According to him, the Civic Party wants a society, where the Republic is more of an idea than an actual authority, and where nobody has to fear from possible interventions from the State in any levels of life, including the trade, the private life and public life. As political scientists says, this kind of centre-right liberal attitude might be really successful combined with a figure like Haberkorn, however first they need to build up themselves to appropriate levels.

Von Hardenberg's ambitious economic plans enter Kongress
          15 May 4911 - Haldor, Greater Kordusia

          Image

Finance Minister Monica Von Hardenberg has presented her ambitious economic agenda to the parliament alongside a budget, with members of Kongress expected to vote on the measures in the coming months. The proposals are split into four bills: "Economic Socialisation", "Financial Nationalisation", "Regulatory Reform" and "Energy & Transport Nationalisation". Accompanying these proposals is a budget that preserves the current level of government spending but redistributes funds away from the Ministry of Defence and towards the Ministries of the Environment, Health and Education - as well as a smaller boost to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport appropriated from cuts to Von Hardenberg's own ministry. The budget is expected to pass after BfdP allies in the RPD announced they would vote in favour of the Minister's first budget.

The four bills proposed by Von Hardenberg have been met with a mixed reception from the RPD and two in particular are likely to face tough opposition. The socialistic Financial Nationalisation Act would essentially bring most of the country's financial sector under public ownership, in particular the banking industry and the stock market. This appears to be a bridge too far, even for the left-wing RPD, who will almost certainly join the opposition in rejecting the proposal. The equally radical Economic Socialisation Act has also been met with a cold reception from the other parties. The ESA would force majority worker representation on corporate boards, demand majority profit-sharing ventures from all companies and prevent striking workers from being sacked under any circumstance.

The more moderate half of the Von Hardenberg proposals are set to pass, however. The Regulatory Reform Act has even received support from the opposition, with its proposals to regulate advertising and increase the minimum wage. The RRA is the most popular part of the economic bundle, with polling showing overwhelming support from the Dorvish public. The Energy & Transport Nationalisation Act is the last of the bills up for debate, calling for public ownership of the country's airports, railways and energy system. This would be one of the most sweeping acts of nationalisation in modern Dorvish history, though the funds for the project have been made available via the Infrastructure & Transport Ministry's newly enlarged budget. The RPD is supporting this policy, and it has met a surprisingly warm welcome from even the centre-right KDP.

With the Dorvish economic consensus firmly placed on the centre-left, despite the likely failure of the more radical Von Hardenberg bills, the opening for the ultra-libertarian Minarchist Civic Party has grown. Internal polling from the BfdP has shown them winning a sizeable number of seats, causing concern among party insiders. The Chancellor and BfdP leader in Kongress, Vicky Bähr, has been clear that she will never accept a coalition agreement with the Minarchists and is even willing to support a more moderate coalition to prevent them from attaining public office.
