Governments silence on Alorian Social Republic is "...worrisome and downright shocking."
June 4363

Haldor, Kordusia - A press conference today outside the Petrov building, the State Council building in Staatsplatz, spoke to reporters and journalist regarding the increasingly dangerous and hostile situation with Dorvik's southwestern neighbor, Aloria. The Alorian Social Republic, now lead by a Dundorfian dominated right-wing government, has announced general mobilization plans as well as reports of increased military build up. The Ministry of Trade and Industry as well as the Ministry of Finance have not responded to requests by the ADV State Council Deputies for comment on the status of trade and financial affairs with the new Alorian Social Republic. The ADV has called the silence from the Dorvish government, the same government that promised "change" despite labeling the All-Dorvish League and the National Socialist Workers' Party as a government of "...hatred..." when no such evidence exists to support such a claim, "Incredibly difficult to watch given Dorvik's standing within the Artanian Union, the World Congress and quite frankly, the world. This inaction is incredibly worrisome and downright shocking."

The ADV Chairman and former State Chancellor Domenikus Florian zu Zÿmern und Behm joked with reporters and journalist, to which he had drawn a large crowd, that the government and namely the Foreign Minister Michael Fabian will now comment and unleash a tirade against the ADV for calling them out.

Minor stories
-- State Security Main Office worried about surge of radical anarchism and government inaction;
-- Dorvish Armed Forces issues a series of de-classified intelligence reports regarding Alorian Social Republic military activity;
-- President of the State Council still un-appointed by government;
-- ADV and others still looking for government position of "Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs";

Michael Fabian: "We do not want a war"
Minister of Foreign Affairs slams down critics

Image

Speaking the State Council today, Minister of Foreign Affairs Michael Fabian made clear the government's view on the developing situation in Aloria. In his statement the Minister said:
The situation in Aloria is worrying for the Alorian people and international community. We condemn the Alorian government's so-called "reforms" that impose restrictions on citizens rights and civil liberties. We further condemn the dramatic and drastic increases in military spending in Aloria and the threatening rhetoric they possess, but we maintain the view that we do not want a war and despite increased tensions, we must act appropriately and in a diplomatic way."

Mr Fabian further went on to comment on the response of the ADV. He said:
The ADV claims they have asked a response on the situation from the Ministry of Trade & Industry as well as Ministry for Finance. Well, [Conservative jeer] I have it on good word from the Minister of Trade & Industry as well as Minister for Finance that no ADV State Council deputies have even attempted to contact them about the situation outside this chamber! I further go on to ask the members opposite, why as Minister of FOREIGN AFFAIRS I was not contacted?

And also ask them, whilst they condemn conservative ministries; why do they not do the same of that of our humble coalition partners, the DPP: ministries of justice, infrastructure and internal affairs. They won't because condemning them would take the possibility of a ADV-DPP coalition off the table after the next election [Conservatives cheer]."

Hoffman hails historic victory for the Conservatives
Zara Hoffmann set to return as Chancellor after election gains

Image

Chancellor and leader of the Conservatives, Zara Hoffmann has claimed victory for the Conservatives after the snap general election resulted in substantial gains for her party. In total, the Conservatives were returned as the largest party gaining 41 seats in total. In a surprise move, she has chosen to form a coalition with the centre-right federalist "Party of Enlightened Free Thinkers." In her victory speech when addressing members of the conservatives, she said:

We appreciate the contributions of the DPP over the past two years in government, but the result of these elections is an endorsement of the centre-right and that is government we must lead. Despite the surprisingly low turnout, we have won. We have had our best result in decades and are close to a majority government, we must now deliever on our election promises for government"

In her speech, she reiterated key manifesto promises. These includes:
- Reducing corporation tax
- Introducing a simpler income tax system
- A view into ministerial jobs and government jobs
- Making steps to form a federal republic
- Ending government spending on state media
- Ensuring small government and protection of civil liberties

Aus Der Asche // DNS

Above: Ida Kayser

After a major shake-up in Dorvish politics, the dust has settled and the Conservative and Reformist Alliance are victorious. However from the ashes of a Dorvik that at worst was seen as imperialistic, militaristic, religiously intolerant and dominated by monarchy, a new force has formed from the old Bright Alliance and radical republicans. Aiming to restructure Dorvik into a meritocratic republic, where monarchy is abolished but the history of the nation respected, the union of former political independents has organised around two independent local councillors from Largonia - Bernard Kilburg and Ida Kayser - who will be looking to use their home state as a base of operations. Already, the party has the recognition of the HA's successor.

In the 30 years since the rise of the monarcho-militarists who have recently fell, Dorvik has had mixed success. Diplomacy has fallen in some areas and risen in others. But now it is time to engage as a power seeking to do good, not as a power seeking control. Party co-leader Ida Kayser has been a local councillor in Zitadelle for 18 years - but now she says it's time to speak up. 'I would say that the majority of the good folk of Dorvik are tired of a nation that is shackled in a past,' she says, 'instead, we should be looking to the future and become a new kind of nation - not a copy of any other, a fully meritocracy'. These sentiments are believed to encapsulate the general view of the party, to be looking ahead instead of to the past.

Despite this forward-thinking attitude, the party is always quick to point out its great 'love' of the cultural mix of Dorvik. The many sub-identities of Dundorfians, from the Westmark people to the Sudish, and the Lorman minority are all 'sources of rich culture that we can learn from in a forward-thinking manner' - at least according to Kayser. This kind of message of forward-thinking was of mixed success to the Bright Alliance, who fell several decades ago, but it could be a major source of strength for the party. The party is generally quite conservative, but is now likely to lose the far-right to the Thallers and the centre-right to the KRA. This leaves the party with a fairly narrow space in which to successfully operate.

New Young Leader Invigorates CotS // DNS

Image
Above: Nicolas Brandebourg

As the oppressive, religiously noninclusive government fades into the past, thousands upon thousands of people are once again either migrating back to Dorvik or coming out of the woodwork to be members of CotS. Numbers were commonly suppressed by the government's actions against the religious group, but now we now that the movement's membership has remained in the millions despite crack downs. As the infrastructure of the religion crumbled, people turned to private prayer and underground meetings. One of the major figures that emerged was black preacher Jean-Bernard Brandebourg, born to Statrican refugees who fled the civil war. After his death, the mantle passed to his son - who was elected near-unanimously recently to lead the sect.

Nicolas Brandebourg is a young, charismatic figure who is popular in his local and religious community. A modernising figure who is all about inclusivity and liberty, but is also deeply devout. He has connections to Hosian music artists like 'Eliyahu Culture', a Dorvish band from Largonia, and is known for his highly energetic sermons which involve the controversial 'laying-on of hands' in which he 'fills congregants with the Spirit' by putting his hand on their head and chants, which leads to congregants having convulsions and spasms - with many seeming to faint and dance as "the Spirit" fills their being. This practice was not used originally by Alice "Indra" Schwartz but is common amongst her successors in the present day.

Brandebourg's main source of popularity is his inclusiveness that has long been lacking from the Children of the Spirit. As a young, minority-ethnic, grandson-of-immigrants he has felt the pressures of not being accepted, and this in turn has changed the way he preaches. Instead of talking about the fires of damnation, he fills hours of sermons with the talk of forgiveness, accepting and compassion. To him, he says, the greatest evil 'is to look at your fellow man and feel not an ounce of compassion for them'. When asked if even rapists and murderers can be saved, Brandebourg controversially responded that: 'yes, absolutely - and it's my mission to make sure it happens for them'. That played very well to certain communities, but makes him an outsider.

Chancellor Hoffman calls Early Election
Zara Hoffmann calls early parliamentary election risking her position as Chancellor

Image

Chancellor Zara Hoffmann has called an early general election risking her position as Chancellor and the Conservatives position in government. Under increasing pressure, she has taken upon herself to call a general election in what she describes as "the perfect opportunity for the Dorvish people." In her statement outside her residence she said:

Our country faces constant challenges from foreign regimes and pressure groups, but what I consider our greatest challenge is the threat to our democracy. Over the term of this parliament we have seen the restoration of a Federal Republic, investment in public services and much needed, radical reforms - all delivered by a Conservative government under a conservative agenda. But what we have also seen is the increasing threat of extremists parties gaining ground within our nation with their sickening scaremongering, barbaric attacks on elected officials and fake news influencing people in places of home and work. This must stop! And thus today, after meeting with Conservative cabinet members, I am to propose to the Federal Assembly an early general election.

I and my government are aware this election carries consequences and great risks - we do not take the public's trust and support for granted. But what we moderating forces must do is make sacrifices for the greater good. What we must do is unite, fight the sick and twisted ideologies of "Rise Up" communism and fascism "Thallerism," we must fight for our democracy and for our freedom. So the choice is clear: freedom, opportunity and fairness or the alternative: restriction imposed by a fascist or communist government.

Major Electoral Victory For ADA, But Is This Just A Caretaker Government? // DNS

Image
Above: President Bernard Kilburg

With all of the ballots counted, ADA swept to a powerful position in the Federal Assembly with 149 seats and 16,000,000 votes - as well as the Dorvan governorship and close runner-ups in Largonia and Miktar. While the party competed heavily with the Thallerists to win over the conservative plurality of Dorvik, the Thallerists were ultimately just pipped to the post and won themselves a strong 104 seats. The real losers of the election were the KRA, who lost an astounding 227 seats, and the DPP, who lost a stunning 110 seats. The largest party, however, turned out to be the Futurist Party - who were due to be disbanded and only appeared on the ballot as a formality. The votes they won were seen by many on the left as votes for a new left-wing movement, and is the largest protest ballot in Dorvish history.

In the Presidential election, with three states and nearly 30,000,000 votes, co-leader of the ADA Bernard Kilburg won the election narrowly over Ricarda Laberenz formerly of the Futurist Party running as an independent after her party's collapse. Again, the former Futurists will not take up seats and Laberenz would have had a short presidency - but the massive force of disgruntled leftists was a major force in this election, dubbed 'the protest election'. Turnout more than doubled, and the plurality of governorships are now taken by the Thallerists - who pretty much unanimously won the Lorman and Volksdundorfian communities due to their royalist policies. It is unlikely, however, they will have any allies in returning the monarchy.

Though a government has indeed been formed - with the LVD, ADA and KRA - the government is seen mainly as a caretaker government until the political clouds clear. The LVD, and presumably the entire opposition, will be supporting early elections, so the government will likely be short-lived - at least in its current form. Kilburg's wife Lydie is in fact set to become Minister for Education and Culture. However, if the ADA fails to stabilise the government or at least win again in a new set of elections, Kilburg is likely to find his position threatened by the highly ambitious soon-to-be Minister for Foreign Affairs Esther Fischer, who is more hard-line that Kilburg and could 'give the Thallers a run for their money in terms of right-wing policies', according to some party insiders.

Minister for Internal Affairs Calls Out 'Dangerous' Communist Proposals // DNS

Image
Above: Ida Kayser

The co-leader of the ADA and the Minister of Internal Affairs, Ida Kayser, has blasted what she calls 'dangerous and destabilising' proposals from the socialist Aufsteigen. The far-left movement has produced a number of highly controversial bills in recent months - not least a proposal to give themselves control of the cabinet while they have only 42 seats. Kayser particularly was 'horrified' by proposals that would eliminate private industry and agriculture - proposals that Kayser said were 'economic suicide', and both would lead to 'bureaucratic failure and economic collapse' as well as taking away the rights of entrepreneurs. 'We need a society that rewards excellence', Kayser says, 'or else it is pointless for people to aspire'.

The socialist party has recently proposed a constitutional bill that would rename several major positions and institutions, as well as increasing the parliamentary chamber's size and shortening terms of office. The bill has flopped, with none but the Aufsteigen party voting for, but Kayser has said that such proposals 'show a willingness from communist elements to hijack our democratic institutions and bend them to their ideological whims'. Further proposals from the far-left include abolishing private charities from running homeless shelters. Kayser was particularly emotional when describing how 'the government is seeking to close down these vital institutions for ideological reasons; they are not working for the people!'.

Another very controversial proposal was to abolish GM foods. GM foods have been scientifically proven to be perfectly healthy by many studies for many years, but this done to stop many people from being strongly against any kind of scientific meddling in food - which some see as a slippery slope. Kayser doesn't agree with them, however, and once again said that the 'communist elements are clearly working against the people, and would rather see food produce be meagre in number than see scientific advancement from the private sector'. Overall, Kayser has laid out the argument that will be used against the far-left in the next election: 'Aufsteigen are putting ideology above pragmatism and the people they claim to represent'.

Another Victory For ADA & Allies // DNS

Image
Above: President Bernard Kilburg

After the collapse of the TU, it became inevitable for yet more elections to occur. This could have been a problem for the ADA and President Kilburg, but the election worked out very well for the ADA-Centrist-KRA alliance. The ADA won 33 extra seats, to total at 182 - alongside 18.4 million votes and 2 governorships. The election was also good for the Zentrumspartei, who gained 97 seats and the Kordusian governorship, and the communist Aufsteigen - who are now only 13 seats behind the ADA now and themselves have two governorships. The ADA was also within 4% of winning both the Kordusian and Miktarese governorships - to add to victories in the friendly territories of Dorvan and Largonia.

The Presidential election was yet again very close, but the incumbent President Bernard Kilburg hung on by a 3.7 million vote margin - just over 6% of the total votes cast in the second round - and thus triumphed over communist Peter Enklemann. The Presidential race was a four-way race in the first round, but the DPP and KRA won 15% and 11% respectively and did not progress to the second round. The race was also entirely male, with all four major candidates being men. The cabinet produced will be very diverse, however, with members from all states and all backgrounds. The ADA-Centrist-KRA alliance, almost certain now to be confirmed, will have a strong majority and a lot of support.

However, the election also left the country with some open-ended questions. Nearly a third of all voters voted for the communists, despite their support for ripping away economic and religious rights. That symbolises a very fractured society that will take time to heal. Many of these communist voters were the same who voted for a party due to be disbanded last election, creating a giant gulf in seats not taken and shaking the establishment to the core about their policies. As the ADA takes up the Pragmatic mantle and begins a period of domination, the future of the country seems open to interpretation. Can the communists win an election? Can the new alliance hold up? Can the ADA remain dominant? Only time can tell us the answer to all that and much more...

Dorvik Pledges Support For Kazulia // DNS

Image
Above: President Bernard Kilburg

With the storm clouds of war gathering above Dovani, with espionage committed wildly against Kazulia by Dankuk and with blood already spilt, the Federal Republic of Dorvik has clearly taken a side: that of Kazulia. The President of Dorvik, Bernard Kilburg, has staked out his support for the Kingdom of Kazulia. In a statement made earlier today, he blasted the Dankuk regime: 'it is clear that espionage rings have been uncovered in Kazulia, and this amounts to a declaration of war in my eyes'. Furthermore, the newly re-elected President also decried the 'unimaginable intrusion upon a democratic nation, which must not be left unpunished and cannot be brushed under the rug'. A massive statement of Dorvish intent.

Meanwhile, newly commissioned Dorvish ambassador to the Security Council, Peggy Meyers, was quick to point out that 'the treatment of the democratic Kingdom of Kazulia by Dankuk for many years has been disgraceful'. She also made oblique reference to the startling assassination of the Consul General to Dankuk, and said that it was 'an act of unforgivable maliciousness and violence'. She also made very clear to state her government's opposition to war, but also made sure to stress Dorvish support for the Kingdom of Kazulia: 'while Dorvik is a nation loving of peace, it has came to the point where Kazulia has had to defend itself. We will be supportive of a swift end on the side of justice'.

Kazulia, as a long time ally to Dorvik, also saw a commanding Esther Fischer release a statement to the Kazulian legislature: 'the government of the Federal Republic of Dorvik is in open support of the Kazulian cause. After years of threats and assassination, as well as the harbouring of weapons specifically designed to hurt the peace-loving nation of Kazulia, it is only right that the Kazulian people and their government choose to defend their democratic and righteous interests'. Strong words indeed, and DNS is also hearing form numerous sources that sanctions from Dorvik to Dankuk and their ally Klavia are coming very soon - with the full weight of the government of Dorvik likely to support the measures.
