Sudish Minority Interests Spokesman Revives Ancestor's Idea // DNS

Image
Above: Henri Dieschbourg IV

The leader of the nowadays mainly ceremonial Sudish Independence Forum, started over 200 years ago, has today started his own new party - claiming lineage to the Pragmatic tradition of Dorvik, inspired by an ancestor's idea of a pro-Sudish party during the government's state persecution of the Sudish and Children of the Spirit. Henri Dieschbourg IV, a member of the 3-million-strong Sudish ethnic group, says that it is time for southern interests to 'be a thing of practical policy, and not a thing of supporting fascists'. With the extremely divided and extreme nature of current Dorvish politics, lurching to the left in a way never previously heard of, the recent rise of several centrist or more moderate parties may well save Dorvik from an extreme future. As a new right-wing party comes into the mix to challenge the settled left-wing establishment, DNS takes a dive into the new political force attracting minority-interest attention.

Dieschbourg started his party with younger sister Karine Schwartz-Dieschbourg, who is the new party's internal affairs spokesperson. Karine is married into the powerful Henrik-Schwartz family which has dominated the Children of the Spirit new-wave religious movement since it began 250 years ago, which provides an interesting opportunity for the wide array of post-Sudish-revolution interest groups to band together around a new political front. Dieschbourg and his sister are both committed right-wingers, with strong - but undisclosed - faithful convictions. This may be an antidote to both the far-right, the only option for conservatives in Dorvik as of recent, and the far-left, who have lacked any more moderate challengers to reclaim the position of leadership in Dorvik. Dieschbourg told DNS reporters that he swears 'to uphold what our nation was founded on: security and safety'.

Despite the veneer of a new movement, the Union for a Meritocratic Republic - as the new party is called - is traceable to the long and controversial history of the chameleonic Pragmatists, who have veered between centre-left and far-right over many iterations. From Katarina's Lehmann's centrist movement to the later PKP of Sally Gretchen who started the Dorvish nuclear programme, and from the southern-interest group that started the Southern Parliament to the far-right religious fanatics of the Bright Alliance. All groups have had their successes and their failures, and have shaped Dorvik for the better or worse, but their controversial history of pandering to the religious vote and clashing with the aristocracy and the left alike has left them oftentimes isolated. While Dieschbourg promises no such thing will happen anymore, it will take time to see how a new southern-focused right-wing party finds itself in a very different Dorvik.

Major Election Success For UMR and NDP // DNS

Image
Above: New Dorvish President, Henri Dieschbourg

Elections in Dorvik have provided a clear right-wing majority, and the incumbent far-left government has been duly ousted by the electorate. The headline Presidential election proved a nightmare for the left, as the left was fractured and all three parties were locked out of the second round. This left them with an all-conservative second round. Gerhard Paulsen (DKP), Reinhardt Frei (AAF) and Benedikt Bleier (FP) won 11 million (18%), 9 million (15%) and 4 million (7%) votes respectively. All three failed to enter the second round, as the left was split while the right had only two candidates to choose between, both of whom entered the second round. Gerhard von Durgen (DNP) and Henri Dieschbourg (UMR) won 18 million (29%) and 19 million (31%) votes each respectively in the first round, leaving the left with a difficult choice on who to choose as their second choice. The left split as their parties were left in the dust: 30 million (54%) and 25 million (46%) votes for the UMR and DNP respectively. This was a result celebrated by the UMR as their leader became President in their party's first ever election.

Adding to the first-election-fever, the UMR succeeded in winning 191 seats and 19 million votes (32%), a massive success which came alongside the two Sudish governorships: Largonia and Miktar. The party even managed to win 63% of the vote in Miktar, the largest vote for any one party in any one state, and came tantalisingly close to winning the Westmark governorship but lost by just 7,000 votes. The NDP came second with 170 seats, up 120, and 17 million votes (28%). The DKP led the left, with 108 seats, down only 4, and 11 million votes (18%) - way behind the NDP. The AAF got 89 seats, down 105 (!), with 9 million votes (15%). However, the real losers of this election have to be the FP, who went from the largest to the smallest party, losing an unfathomable 202 seats and having to disband shortly after the election due to the immense loses.

Since the election, a cabinet was swiftly agreed upon by the like-minded NDP and UMR. The cabinet partitioned the greatest offices of state, with the Foreign and Finance Ministries going to Karl von Schloß and Ernst Groningen of the NDP, respectively, and the Head of Government and Internal Ministry headed by UMR members Jacqueline Kremer and Karine Schwartz-Dieschbourg respectively. The cabinet will be 40% female, which many even on the left have cheered, and Dorvik will have a female HoG, Internal Minister and Defence Minister - the last being Anouk Reding of the UMR. The government is already set on changing the country constitutionally, and finally removing the socialist elements of the nation. The Republic of Dorvik is soon to be proclaimed, led by new forces. If this election has shown anything, it's that Dorvik is an unpredictable place politically.

Kremer Attacks 'Obstructionist Left' // DNS

Image
Above: Cabinet Chairwoman, Jacqueline Kremer

Jaqueline Kremer, the Dorvish Head of Government, has attacked 'the obstructionist left who are denying the will of the people to transition away from communism'. After the coalition of the NDP and UMR won a clear majority, but not quite a super-majority, of the votes and seats in the last election, it was the aim of the new government to attempt to change the constitution so as to move from the Worker's Republic of Dorvik to a Republic of Dorvik, removing the communist language and terminology stricken throughout the constitution. However, despite having the majority of the population seemingly behind them, the party fell short of the two-thirds majority necessary for affecting a change to the constitution. In response to this, Kremer has decried the obstruction as 'undemocratic and even perhaps anti-democratic'.

Conservative anger over the failure of the new constitution has sparked a major conversation within the nation about the effects of communist rule, which appear to linger despite the loss of the communist majority - and the massive losses they suffered in the election. "I genuinely think it's terrible that the official opposition is so totally unwilling to compromise and deliver a change that the vast majority of Dorvik clearly wants," says Kremer, "and I cannot, for the life of me, think why they believe this is the right thing to do. They lost the election, they really need to accept their role.". The government has also confirmed that it had attempted to strike a deal with the communists and anarchists to get the bill passed, but it now seems as though meaningful bi-partisanship did not succeed in this endeavour.

Kremer, who took office almost immediately after the election as the leader of the largest party (the UMR) in the People's Chamber, went on to tell DNS reporters that "I sincerely hope that one day we will be rid of major communist influence in this country, and when the new parties that have formed take up their seats I hope to have a meaningful conversation with all elected parties on a better Dorvik via the will of its people". Polls suggest clear majority, but not vital super-majority, support for the changes that were proposed, and Kremer has above-water approval ratings which contrast to the generally negative public opinion of some of the communist government's figures, actions and policies. However, it seems that the two-thirds majority rule has foiled Kremer's plans.

Against All Odds: Government Victory // DNS

Image
Above: Cabinet Chairwoman, Jacqueline Kremer

Despite many obstacles flying in the face of re-election for the UMR and NDP, including the formation of two new political parties including one on the right, the government has practically retained its majority, allowing it to continue on as is as far as can be told. The right-wing government alliance received 31 million votes (49%) and won 296 seats, losing 65 seats overall and leaving them just 3 seats short of a majority, which should allow for a minority coalition - alternatively, it would still be easy for the government to reform a government. President Henri Dieschbourg regained his position as President with 16 million votes (26%) in the first round and 31.5 million votes (55%) in the second round, defeating left-wing challenger Gerhard Paulsen. The government won the governorships and state government of Largonia, Kordusia and Miktar - the UMR holds a major single-handedly in the Sudish parliament.

The left-wing challenger alliance of the AAF and DKP fell short of the right with 26 million votes (41%) and 244 seats, winning the Dorvan and Westmark governorships. The AAF's Reinhardt Frei won 10.5 million votes (16%) while the DKP's Gerhard Paulsen won 16 million votes (24%). The latter advanced to challenge the right-wing incumbent. Despite the left uniting behind Paulsen, he won 45% of the vote with his 26 million supporters. This was another disappointing result for the left, who was looking to retake power after their loss last time around. They did regain 47 seats, to their credit, and can still obstruct any change to the constitution - a silver-lining result, though that overall leaves neither side very happy.

New party the LDP won 4 million votes (6%) and 36 seats; the Mutualists won 2.6 million votes (4%) and 23 seats. Both fell well clear of expectations, and won practically all of their support in Westmark and performed very well there, nearly each winning the governorship - though the LDP also picked up two seats in Largonia. Margarete Stier and Torsten Weinfeld were only able to pull in a few million votes each, and a moderate single-figure result. It has been thought they may each serve as spoilers to the larger, more established alliances, but that has not occurred. It appears Kremer and Dieschbourg are returning to their jobs, and it's a good result for the UMR and NDP once again.

Government To Aid Democratic Forces In Vanakalam; Reding Offers To Meet Azeez // DNS

Image
Above: Anouk Reding - Minister of Justice

The Minister of Justice, Anouk Reding, has stated in a press conference to DNS reporters that the Dorvish government will be providing medical aid to the pro-democracy forces in Vanakalam with the possibility of medical staff to be sent soon after. Reding states that the government is interested primarily in the protection of the Vanakalamese people, and trusts the Vanakalamese Pro-Democracy Forum to distribute the aid to both civilians and their own forces, while also striking clear that Dorvik is fully on the side of democracy. The Minister says that it has not given such aid to the communist forces as they 'are not interested in a diplomatic solution to the crisis, do not control as much of the battlefield and may misuse supplies that are sent'. The Communist State of Vanakalam's President A. Suhanthra has denied all of these claims as being 'bourgeoisie conspiratorial behaviour against the will of the people and their revolution'.

Some commentators point out that this will result in Reding being on the same side as the patriarch of ultra-nationalism in the third world, Azeez of Medina, who has invaded his neighbours alongside fellow aspiring neo-caliphates. Reding stated clearly that she disapproves of Azeez's invasion of his neighbours, and that the cross-over support for Takarana Sagana, Tambethra Kumar and their rebel forces is only incidental. Reding also made the controversial step of saying that she would be 'very willing to meet with Azeez of Medina and to discuss a meaningful peace process and democratic stabilisation of the region'. This move has already caused a high amount of outrage from the Dorvish immigrant community's members who originate from victim nations of the anti-western movement in the Dovani continent known as "colonial nationalism".

In other news, the UMR has uncharacteristically proposed to legalise marijuana, with Minister of Justice Stephan Kirchen saying that the current laws 'do nothing but lock up non-violent offenders who are not harming themselves or anyone else, and is propping-up drug dealers who are getting rich off of the prohibition'. While the move may attract limited support from fellow conservative parties, the move will likely pass if the left steps up in support. The communist parties are, as you may expect, quite authoritarian however - so it is not a done deal. Explaining why the party had moved left on this issue, Kirchen stated that his party is 'not a far-right party that will stay in a fantasy line for any reason'.

Dorvik Supporting Hawu Security Council Bid // DNS

Image
Above: Head of Government Jacqueline Kremer talking to diplomats

The Dorvish government has officially announced their support for an attempt to get Hawu Mumenhes a seat on the security council. Jacqueline Kremer has messaged all governments of states yet to choose a new candidate after Dorvik was granted a permanent seat, as well as messaging those who are abstaining otherwise currently. Hawu's own government is also trying to get people on board. Kremer said that 'allies like Hawu and Dorvik must always be there for each other, and stand beside each other at all times. Our mutual history is long and complex, but today we stand together in mutual respect'. Dorvik and Hawu have previously had a rocky relationship under the Foreign Ministry of Esther Fischer and the Kurageri controversy, but now the Dorvish Head of Government is adamant that Hawu would be good on the Security Council.

The central Artanian nation will battle its neighbours in Luthori and incumbents in Malivia to get the title, which will be an uphill battle but for which there is plenty of time to grow support for. Luthori currently looks set for re-election having been disqualified for being the two-term incumbent in the last elections, but Kremer says that 'Hawu has an extremely strong claim to the seat due to their amazing record in supporting peace and democracy, and that will shine through and will gain them immense support in the upcoming election'. A partnership between Hawu and Dorvik as Artanian members of the Security Council would likely be effective in passing Security Council resolutions after Dorvik's last proposal was rendered obsolete before countries could vote - the resolution on Vanakalam, which has had its own crisis escalate beyond the proposal's bounds.

Assasination of Reinhardt Frei! Complete reform of the Workers Anarchist Federation!

Today on November, 4420, just a month before the elections, an unknown assailant has shot Reinhardt Frei, Representative of the Workers Anarchist Federation and founder of the Anarchist Union in 4385, while making his way to the Volkskammer. After establishing himself as a famous and known politician in Dorvish for over 40 years, Frei made many friends, but many enemies as well. As of now, the identity of the assassin is yet unknown, but Frei's death has created immense unrest in Dorvik, especially the workers.

Laurenz Kändler, President of the Miners and Workers Syndicate, said:
I personally met Reinhardt back in 4385 and all I can say is I was astonished by his views of our trade unions and our efforts. All the changes he brought to our country were beautiful and, to us simple workers, hopeful of a better future for our families. Although some saw him as a devil, as nothing more than a straggler, he will remain as Dorvik's most influential and important revolutionary.

Erica Ehrenberg, the famous anti-warrenist writer, had different thoughts on Frei's passing:
Although I do not support the violent murder of people I do not agree with, I believe it was already time for Frei to step down from politics. Yes, it is a shame he had to go this way, but now people can finally realize all the bad things he did to the people and especially the workers, claiming to be creating a society for them and instead using populism to gain seats in parliament. I fear this will bring a turbulent time for Dorvik, once more.

Reinhardt Frei's body will be buried next week in Haldor's General Cemetery in a special mausoleum designed by the Trade Union Congress' workers themselves.

Kuno Rottmann, previous Vice-Representative of the AAF and now President, has already decided to begin the reformation of the party into something more akin to his views, making the newly created Arbeiter Sozialistich Partei into a reality. Rottman claims this party will work closely with the DKP and will leave behind some or most anarchist elements in favour of nationalism and conservatism. It is unknown how the workers of the Trade Union Congress will face this approach, but some already fear this will mean the end for anarchism in Dorvik.

Government Plans In Third Term According To Kremer // DNS

Image
Above: Head of Government Jacqueline Kremer talks to DNS

The Head of the Dorvish Government, Jaqueline Kremer talked about her third term, the Vanuku crisis, Vanakalam and internal policy to DNS reporter Fredrick Hessen earlier today. She said in the interview that disagree that the Vanuku issue would have been resolved by Dorvik being more involved in the theatre beforehand, and said her government was prepared to take Vanuku to the international courts to seek justice over the nuclear attack committed against Deltaria which killed thousands. She also reiterated that her government continues to support Hawu Mumenhes for Seat A to the security council, but brought up the possibility of replacing Vanuku with Hawu as a permanent member - not surprising considering how Hawu and Dorvik have sided so heavily over this issue in the General Assembly debate.

On the matter of Dorvish politics, Kremer noted that her government is 'in talks with parties from outside the government right as we speak on the topic of meeting in the middle to create a better Dorvik on a variety of issues'. This could potential, she says, 'include constitutional change' - 'I cannot promise anything, however' she then continued, perhaps suggesting the talks are only in early days, considering that only now has the WAF moved to the centre. She also seemed to shake off claims she is planning to run for the Presidency, though did not outright deny the and instead instructed the media to continue playing the waiting game on Henri's presidency. While not in the interview, Kremer has also been on note decrying the assassination of Reinhardt Frei, who she said 'died to soon even after decades of public life, and also too foully' - extending her condolences to members of the Frei family through private correspondences. A full copy of the extract from the interview is available below.

[H]essen: Mrs Kremer, there has been a lot of talk in the past few years of government inactivity on the world stage, and now we are seeing a security council member using nuclear weapons. Is this kind of lawlessness and chaos internationally in any part due to your government refusing to take a role in the world, and what are you doing now to disarm Vanuku?
[K]remer: I totally disagree that this is in any way down to the policies of our government. We can't be the world policemen, we have to work with our allies and over the past decade while we've been in power we've been focused on soft diplomacy. We've been influential in gathering support for Hawu Mumenhes who we want to see on the Security Council, and we've had so much trade flowing in and out of Dorvik. As for what we're doing, we're supporting the resolution to remove Vanuku from the Security Council and the Dorvish government will take Vanuku to the international courts if their veto is upheld.
[H] Well, Hawu is still massively far behind winning the seat off of Luthori, and do you really think you can have two world powers in the courts against each other?
[K] We're still years from the security council election and it's highly possible we'll see Vanuku being replaced by Luthori - or even Hawu - as a permanent member. So the campaign is continuing well, we've got Indrala behind Hawu, we need Hawu on the Security Council in my honest opinion to prevent more Vanuku flare-ups. As for taking them to the courts, we'll take them head on and win with support across the world.
[H] Well on the topic of support, your government is failed for a decade to get support behind changing the constitution, you can't get that final third - can you?
[K] Funnily enough, as you say that, we're in talks with parties from outside the government right as we speak on the topic of meeting in the middle to create a better Dorvik on a variety of issues. That very well could include constitutional change, in which case we have an opening to finally deliver on the sustained will of our people to end communist language in our constitution, or at least dilute it to create a neutral constitution for all Dorvish people. I cannot promise anything, however.
[H] On the topic of the future, are you lining up as the next President of Dorvik?
[K] Oh, that's quite an interesting question so far out. I know maybe the President won't go for another term but we'll have to see.

DESTINA RUHR CRITICIZES THE ASP!
Vice-Representative of the ASP fights against the reforms of the newly created Arbeiter Sozialistische Partei

Destina Ruhr, the new Vice-Representative of the ASP, has denounced the reforms taken by Kuno Rottmann and other socialist leaders as "nothing but reactionary and chauvinist destruction of the libertarian ideals in Dorvik". Although Ruhr is still very new to public life, her young age and appealing words have reached the ears and thoughts of some supporters of the party. Being a strong admirer of Reinhardt Frei, the previous Representative of the Arbeiter Anarchistische Föderation, and his anarchist ideals has led Destina to feel growing contempt against the new order imposed in the party.

How can all of you proletarians stay with your arms crossed while traitors like Rottmann shatter the Federation's image? It is clear he and his friends murdered Frei and took power for themselves; they never supported him, not even back in the First Trade Union Congress. Their reforms are nothing but reactionary and chauvinist destruction of the libertarian ideals in Dorvik. Every single worker that is listening to me now, when my dead body appears tomorrow while I make my way to the Volkskammer: what will you say? What will you think? Our time to put an end to this counter-revolution is now, not tomorrow.

To most, her words fall flat. Ruhr has no real evidence of the outrageous claims she makes, and Rottmann himself has denied all allegations; still, there have been some who have listened to her words, and there is a real and growing fear of a potential civil war between party members.

Does this mean the new Arbeiter Sozialistische Partei will meet its end shortly after its creation? Or, perhaps, a simple stone blocking the road towards power?
