High Court says Transgender have same rights as other citizens

Image

ACHARIYA - The Imperial Republic of Chann's highest court, the Ministerial High Court, has handed down its decision today on Razamid's controversial Bathroom Privacy Act of 4030. In a seminal decision in Chann Government v. Razamid, the Court announced that:

This Court believes that the emerging literature and science surrounding gender identity has cast reasonable and considerable doubt on the status quo. Likewise, national societal opinion has reached a critical mass in the acceptance of these developments. It is a quickly diminishing minority, led by religious fundamentalists who, coincidentally, also espouse the restoration of a state religion, have sought to overreach and impose their views on a growing majority of citizens in support of a traditionally and historically marginalized community now coming out of the cracks created by the lack of adequate policy and legal consideration.

We do not, today, announce or create a new right for Transgender people, but rather enunciate that recent developments in science and literature has made more stark and more clear the need of Transgender citizens to be protected from unwarranted government intrusion and from breaches of the right of privacy accorded to every citizen under our Common and Constitutional Jurisprudence.

The High Court continues the heavy trend towards Secularism and tolerance.

Channese Oil Executives successfully lobby al-Azahari family to join Majatran Oil Corporation

Image

ACHARIYA - ChannOil executives returned from across the Badaran Strait with wide grins, announcing at a press release outside there high rise office by the Imperial Port Authority that they had successfuly lobbied the al-Azahari regime to induct Badara into the Majatran Oil Corporation, a cartel being pushed by ChannOil and Imperial Republic of Chann officials.

The Cartel is aimed toward stabilizing oil and petroleum prices and to sustain high profit margins on oil supply for centuries into the future.

Kafuri Nationalists Reemerge

The Kafuri Nationalist Party, which was a short lived big tent anti-chann movement from 40 years ago, has reemerged under new leadership. The new face of the KNP, Assad Karim, is a moderate nationalist that has appealed to many Kafuris that feel left out of the "Channese Prosperity".

Karim has said that the Chann economic growth has disproportionately benefitted the Channese, and has left out the Kafuri Majority. The new KNP embraces centrism and capitalism, and has cut out many of the previous factions of Kafuri Nationalism.

The KNP now consists of 2 factions. The Hardline Nationalists, who advocate the removal of all citizens of Channese descent, are led by Munir Nagi. Nagi has been an outspoken proponent of anti-chann actions, and some accuse him of advocating and orchestrating violence against citizens of Channese descent. However, Nagi denies these accusations.

The Liberal Nationalists, led by Assad Karim, support the removal of the Chann government and the end of Channese immigration, but they do not support the removal of citizens of Channese descent from Kafuristan. Although the Liberal Nationalists are the minority faction, Karim's immense popularity allows them to remain in control of party operations.

Protests have rocked Kafuristan in recent weeks as Kafuri nationalists regain a sense of hope. The emergence of the KNP has brought with it a massive reemergence of Kafuri nationalism and ethnic pride.

Aloreen Councilor Alira Aloreen calls Kafuri Nationalist Party 'Dangerous' and 'anti-Labor'

AL-QORALUS - Provincial Councilor Alira Aloreen has come out strongly against a new and growing party in Kafuristan, calling them "dangerous" and "anti-Labor". At a press release in her home province, she was backed by leaders of many of the nations Union leaders.

"The Kafuri Nationalist Party will upset the balance that has been struck between Labor and the Free Market," Said Defense Workers Union President Cal Zoran. "They seek to take away the rights of union workers by limiting our activities."

The KNP has introduced a slew of legislation aimed toward weakening the economy while also stripping away union labor rights.

Assad Karim Slams Aloreen Family

The KNP Chairman Assad Karim has responded to the recent negative statement from Alira Aloreen. Karim not only refuted Aloreen's accusation that the KNP is 'anti-labor', but also slammed the Aloreen family as a whole.

Karim claimed that the Aloreen Family "partners with the Channese despite knowing that they are hurting their own people" and that they have "sold out to the Channese in order to increase their own status at the expense of their fellow Majatrans".

Karim then refuted the claim that the KNP was anti-labor. He said that "unions are necessary and vital, but we support the right to work." He also claimed that all economic measures supported by the KNP are designed to counter the "fixed economy". He said that the economy was "rigged in favor of the Channese and the massive Chann corporation."

The CNP is in the midst of regrouping after end of one party rule

Achariya - In the adopted home of the Channese today, high ranking members of the Chann National Party met behind closed doors to assess the recent election debacle and loss at the polls. Some members were furious, having lost cushy jobs, and assailed the leaders of the Party and the Family. Kaiser Chann II, the Patriarch, rose and addressed the secret body:

"We were overconfident. After over 100 years of Chann Rule, we took our support for granted. We will never do that again."

Nationalist Victory!
January 4040

The Kafuri people have chosen the Kafuri nationalists in the recent election. The fate of the Channese is unknown, but with Munir Nagi as HOG one can infer that a slew of anti-chann legislation is on the horizon. The Channs have suffered their first electoral loss in more than 100 years, and they will now likely see many of their laws altered, repealed, and replaced.

The people now expect the KNP to enact the many reforms they promised, particularly in regards to the "rigged" economy. Still out of reach, however, is banishing the Channs completely and renaming the nation. Both of these sought after reforms require 2/3rds of the legislature, while the nationalists only hold 59/100 seats.

Karim Crushes Bank of Chann and Delivers Economic Reforms

Following the recent election, Nationalist Leader Assad Karim was elected Head of State. Karim wasted no time, and had a slate of bills created and put to vote in his first month. This slate included the Kafuri Economic Reform Act of 4040, the Union Regulation Act, and the Withdrawal from the Bank of Chann.

The Kafuri Economic Reform Act of 4040, currently in the voting stage and expected to pass, delivers on most of the nationalist's economic campaign promises. The bill places regulations on monopolies and forbids them on a sector by sector basis. Currently monopolies are unregulated, and detrimental to the average people. The bill also addresses foreign investments, prohibiting foreign investors from having a majority share of national companies. This is a direct shot at the Chann corporation and it's Solentian investors.

The reform also promises new subsidies to failing businesses. These subsidies are designed to protect Kafuri businesses from failing in the face of massive competition from Chann corporate subsidiaries and Channese run businesses. Although the bill does not specify Majatran businesses, the Minister of Finance Afif Zaman has pledged to deny all subsidies to Channese businesses, particularly businesses directly related to members of the Chann government.

The Reform also gives the government power to intervene in the Exchange rate regime when necessary. The KNP claims that this is just "common sense". However, perhaps the most controversial part amongst the nationalists was the article addressing Child labor. The Bill lifts the ban on child labor, which Hardliners loved but some Liberal nationalists opposed. Hardliners argued that the ban on Child labor, imposed by the Chann government long ago, has put many families in a tough place financially, and that many of the poorest families rely on some income from their children. Liberal nationalists conceded to the Hardliners and agreed to lift the ban, but also added additional regulations to protect the children from exploitation.

The Labor Regulation Act enforced the universal right to work(banning closed shops/agency shops), and restricted secondary strike to closely related unions. Some saw this law as anti-labor, however Karim refuted this point. Karim claimed that Unions, often run by the Channese, had become detrimental to the common Kafuri. He argued that by restricting them he was freeing the Kafuri worker.

Most importantly Karim has crushed the Bank of Chann. The Bank recieved massive deposits from the Chann government through this treaty. Karim called the treaty "corruption and nepotism". The bill currently being voted on will end the relationship between the Kafuristan government and the Bank of Chann, withdrawing all funds, thus losing the Bank one of it's largest account holders.

Hardliners are now calling for the official withdrawal from the Imperial Republic of Chann. However, this idea is still being debated in the legislature. If this is done, it would be a devastating blow to the future of the Channs in Kafuristan.

Chann National Party promises Progressive Platform

Image

ACHARIYA, CHANN - At its most recent yearly convention, the leaders of the CNP have emerged with a not-so-new policy platform. Since the Liberation from Ahmadist Extremism, the Chann's have introduced a liberal, securalist government - winning equal rights for women and LGBT citizens in the military and throughout society. A recent Ministerial High Court decision also held that Transgender citizens had equal rights afforded to all other citizens.

But with the new Nationalist party now in play, many fear that the liberal era is coming to an end and that the country is sinking back toward Ahmadist extremism. To face these fears, party chairman Kaiser Chann II has pushed the party to resurrect the CNPs stance on women's rights, LGBT rights, and minority rights - hoping to rebuild its coalition of Liberal and Urban Kafuris and the many minority groups.

We will fight so that the progress that was won over the last 100 years does not evaporate with the new regime in power. - Kaiser Chann II, CNP Party Chairman

Assad Karim Assassinated Following Electoral Loss

Following the recent KNP electoral loss, KNP Chairman Assad Karim was shot to death while leaving his office. Following his assassination Hardliner Munir Nagi has been elected Chairman and has announced an ambitious plan to reform the party. Nagi's rapid ascension to chairman and his apparent eagerness for change has made many suspicious of him. Many Liberal nationalists have resigned from their positions and left the party due to a hatred and distrust of Nagi.

Munir Nagi Shot Inside of Home; Torn KNP Collapses
5 days later

KNP Chairman Munir Nagi was shot and killed inside of his home last night. Halim Saqqaf, who has since been arrested, entered Nagi's home at 3am and fired 8 shots into Nagi's bed killing both Munir Nagi and his wife. The assassin was confronted by Nagi's armed security guard, whom he had snuck past earlier, shortly after firing the shots. Saqqaf fired 4 shots at the security guard, 2 of which hit their target. The gaurd was killed, Saqqaf was wounded in the gunfight. Saqqaf then fled into the yard and attempted a getaway. However, the police arrested Saqqaf less than a mile away from the Nagi residence when they noticed his blood stained clothes.

Saqqaf has since admitted that the murder was in retaliation for the murder of Assad Karim. He explained his theory that Nagi had Karim killed, and this theory is widely believed. Since the event, all KNP legislators have resigned and the KNP has dissolved. The 2 factions, however, have continued fighting. In the 7 hours since news of the murder reached the populace, 4 gunfights have occurred and 18 are dead. The violence has been credited to infighting amongst the parties constituents.

The KNP was so successful because of it's big tent approach, but in the end it backfired. When you stuff two rival groups in one big tent, you create a circus.
