Yezhednevnye Novosti: Vicereine Reaches Out to Warring Factions

Image
Vicereine The Most Honorable Countess Vira Lukyanenko during the press conference.

With Foreign Minister His Grace Duke Boris Igumnov in tow, Vicereine of Trigunia The Most Honorable Countess Vira Lukyanenko, or simply The Countess for short, took a break from discussing the relationship between Trigunia and Hulstria discuss foreign affairs in Kien, Greater Hulstria. The press conference was held highlighting the Great Princedom's & Tsardom's position over the possibility of war between members of the Macon Treaty Organization of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance and the informal alliance of Kalopia and Kafuristan.

The Most Honorable Countess stated that "Trigunia prides itself on offering a helping hand and honoring its obligations when called upon by members of its various alliances. However, there are times when it is not in the direct interest for Trigunia to engage in overt nor covert action against nations. Given that Trigunia is a member of the Macon Pact, but also a large consumer of products coming from the region of Majatra, specifically through the Majatran Sea, as well as the shipping of our own products to the nations of the continent. These vessels carry these import and export products through various bodies of water, over vast distances. A war in this region and through these bodies of water, no matter how limited, will greatly impact Trigunia as an island nation.

"It is with this in mind, as well as a sense of common humanity, that Trigunia offer its services in mediating the conflict between these two sides in order to prevent war, which will be not only destructive of human lives and fortunes, but will also disrupt the commerce of the world.

"A a member of the Macon Pact, Trigunia officially refuses outright to engage in hostile actions against the Independent Wantuni Republic, or Kalopia, and the Holy Ranz'riah Empire of Queranzári Kafuristan. Trigunia will not offer military assistance, nor will it offer non-military support, but instead, wishes to avoid this conflict at all costs.

"Because of this, Trigunia officially offers a conference to be held at the Bear's Den in Heinrichgrad in which both sides can discuss their grievances and come to a beneficial conclusion."

After the Vicereine spoke, Foreign Minister Igumnov reinforced her comments but also hinted at the details of the discussions with Greater Hulstria about tying the two nations even closer together. This is the first trip of an acting Trigunian Viceroy to Greater Hulstria on official business, which is quite odd given the close relationship the two countries hold. It seems that the lack of these visits has become an unofficial tradition on the Trigunian camp, given the untimley death of the first Viceroy His Grace R.D. Mashkov, 1st Duke of Petrovgrad on his way to such an important state visit, and was only recently changed. With the Mashkov family relegated to the sidelines of Trigunian politics following the marriage of Her Grace Anastasiya Mashkova, 2nd Duchess of Petrovgrad to His Imperial Majesty Franz VII of Hulstria & II of Trigunia & I of Dolgaria, the new Vicereine seems to be making a name for herself by breaking from such traditions.

And, being the arbiter of a possible peace deal, this will solidify her prestige at home and abroad as well as usher in a change from the normally sabre-rattling foreign policy of Trigunia.

Kafuristan supports Peace Conference initiative.

LEHONTI-- The Kafuri Government announced today that it would send the Minister of Foreign Affairs, mr. Mehmet ibn Ahmed Said Muhammed, to the Peace Conference in Trigunia. In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the Kafuri Government has very high hopes that this Conference will be the start of serious discussions between the opposing sides. The Minister also said that Kafuristan would not give in to threats nor would it surrender its sovereignty.

In the same statement, the Minister of Foreign Affairs critized the Likatonian President, who stated that Kafuristan and Hulstria are pro terror and pro-militant nations, by saying that neither Hulstria or Kafuristan have supported millitants and terrorists in the past and that the statement made by the President was a deliberate attempt by the Likatonian Government to undermine the Conference in Trigunia.

These action will further highten tensions as the Kalopia-Likatonia Peace Conference is underway.

Angry protesters attack Likatonia, Telamon embassies in Kafuristan.

LEHONTI-- Angry mobs stormed the Likatonian and Telamonian embassies in Kafuristan on Monday, after Telamon announced it would impose an naval blockade against Kafuristan as punishement for its conflict with Likatonia.

As Kafuri security forces looked on, the angry mob smashed their way into the compound with a battering ram, broke windows, destroyed the ambassador’s car and set fire to the building, according to an eyewitness.

An RKP photographer at the scene said several windows in the Telamonian embassy were broken, people where looting the building and Kafuri flags were raised. “A car belonging to an embassy staffer was damaged and a picture of the Kafuri Emperor was stuck on it,” he said.

Monday’s embassy attacks come several days after the Telamonian government announced its naval blockade. Kafuri troops did nothing to disperse the angry crowd around the Likatonian embassy, even as protesters began climbing a fence, scaling the roof of one of the embassy buildings, knocking out security cameras, and smashing windows. At the Telamonian embassy, which also came under attack, security guards fired warning shots in the air after Kafuri soldiers there also failed to step in – not even when protesters began using a battering ram to try to break in.

Kafuri Internal Security Forces arrest four Likatonians suspected of espionage and terrorist acts. Kafuristan raises IMRL to "Code Red".

LEHONTI-- The Ministry of Defence announced today that Kafuri Internal Security Forces have arrested four Likatonians during an nightly raid on a remote farm in the Kafuri-Kalopian border region. The arrest was preceded by a short exchange of gunfire between the four man and the Kafuri Internal Security Forces, leaving two of the arrested man and 4 soldiers injured. The four man are being accused of spying for a foreign power, plotting terrorist acts against the State and being in the country illegally. Sources within the Ministry of Defence have confirmed that the Kafuri military has evidence that the arrested man work for the Likatonian Intelligence Agency and are part of a covert team paving the way for a possible invasion of Kafuristan by Likatonia. The Sources also confirmed that the four man had been taken for interrogation to the Abu Aziz Security Facility near the city of Boaz, Abi'nadi. This Security Facility is used as a prison for "unwanted and subversive" elemants within Kafuri society and is notorious for its use of unconventional interrogation methodes. The Ministry of Defence stated that the four man will be tried by a special military tribunal and could face the death penalty. Kafuri Internal Security Forces have increased security operations within the Kafuri-Kalopian border region the find and take out any other Likatonian covert units.

As a result of these arrests, the Kafuri Supreme Military Council has raised the Imperial Military Readiness Level to "Code Red", the highest level. The Supreme Command has ordered the complete and total mobilization of all Imperial Armed Forces, Imperial Guard and National Militia units. The raising of the IMRL to "Code Red" means that the Supreme Military Council views that foreign military incursions into Kafuri territory are imminent. Because of this, the Supreme Council has decided to build and extend fortifications allong the Kafuri coast to prevent an possible invasion by enemy forces. The Supreme Military Council also has announced that a ten mile strip along the entire coast will be designated as a restricted military zone. Entry to this zone by unautherized military and civilan personal will be considered an act of treason and will be dealt with accordingly.

Kafuri Second Fleet suffers heavily from Likatonian aerial attacks.

LEHONTI-- The Imperial Second Fleet has suffered heavy losses today after they battled and drove back element of the Likatonian Airforce. At the moment of the attack the Second Fleet, under the command of Admiral Yaqub ibn Navid Ali, was stationed outside the Emir Ameen Naval Base, near Ahaz in the O'mer Province, waiting to be resupplied. After the radar network picked up the Likatonian aircraft, th air-raid sirens sounded and an wave of panic got grip of the fleet. Hastily ship crews took up battle position and waited for the upcomming onslaught. Over 500 Likatonian aircraft rolled into Kafuri airspace and immediately commenced the bombardement and strategic attacks upon the Second Fleet. The battle lasted for several houres and resulted in a marginal victory for the Second Fleet, destroying a majority of the Likatonian aricraft. Although winning the battle, the Second Fleet suffered heavy losses. Four ships, including two heavy cruisers, a destroyer and a frigate, had been sunk by the air-raid. Another 10 ships, including the flagship K.N.V. "Naji I", were damaged, several of them severly, and needed to be towed back to nearby naval bases. Kafuri Armed Forces kill 8, detain 5 suspected foreign Special Forces. Militant group kidnaps 4 foreigners near Lehonti.

LEHONTI-- Kafuri Armed Forces have killed eight persons suspected of being part of a Likatonian Covert Operations Unit during an armed attack on a Kafuri Military Intelligence compound, near the city of Kumen, O'mer Province. Kafuri Security forces managed to capture five persons after the attack. Those five individuals detained have been identified by the Kafuri Military Intelligence as being in possession of Cildanian weapons, uniforms and dogtags, making it likely they are members of the Cildanian Special Forces. The captured men have been transported to the Abu Aziz Security Facility near the city of Boaz, Abi'nadi Province, for interrogation. This Security Facility is used as a prison for "unwanted and subversive" elemants within Kafuri society and is notorious for its use of unconventional interrogation methodes. Kafuri Military Intelligence Officers will interrogate the prisoners to try and obtain information about their operations within Kafuristan and any other information the men might have. Kafuri Security Forces have begon an manhunt for any other remaining units of foreign Special Forces inside Kafuristan.

Armed militants of the AAPK claim recent kidnappings.

A militant group claimed they have kidnapped four foreigners from an hotel in the Kafuri capitol of Lehonti. The group, calling itself the Abadi Army for the Protection of Kafuristan or AAPK, said in an video-statement they released today that they had captured 3 men and a woman from the Ibn Ali Hotel in the capitol of Lehonti. From the passports shown in the video, the Kafuri autorities have identified the abducted persons as being a man and woman from Telamon, a man from Likatonia and a man from Keymon. The AAPK said they would release the people they had abducted if the assault on Kafuristan ends. If not, they would consider all foreign nationals inside Kafuristan as enemy combatants and vowed to kill all enemies of Kafuristan or die trying. The Kafuri Government has not yet the react to the claims, but unofficial sources close to the army have stated that the government views the abductions as unimportant since they involve citizens of hostile nations.

Likatonian Embassies in Al'Badara and Jakania bombed. AAPK militants claim responsibility.

LEHONTI-- Two massive bombs exploded minutes apart outside the Likatonian Embassies in Al'Badara and Jakania today, , in what officials said were coordinated terrorist attacks.

In Bier Qassem, the capitol of Al'Badara, an enormous explosion ripped through downtown at about 09:35 a.m., turning the busy Sultan Ameen I Avenue into a scene of carnage and destruction. The blast, which leveled a three-story building containing a secretarial school and gutted the rear half of the Likatonian Embassy next door.

Just minutes before, a bomb reportedly planted in a gasoline tanker detonated near the front entrance of the Likatonian Embassy in the Jakanian capital of Wakanda. The blast destroyed the front of the building and toppled a side wall, throwing charred debris down the street, setting cars on fire and toppling trees.

Witnesses in both Bier Qassem and Wakanda said the explosions, where preceded by smaller blasts, perhaps grenades, and gunfire.

Officials said they believed the bombings were a terrorist attack. Although officials did not identify any suspects, the newspaper Ranz'riah Kafuri Press -- based in Lehonti, Kafuristan -- reported that it had received a call claiming responsibility for the bombings from the Abadi Army for the Protection of Kafuristan (AAPK, a militant group based in Kafuristan. The same group claimed responsibility for the kidnapping of four foreign nationals from a hotel in the Kafuri capitol of Lehonti. The AAPK claimed that the attack was an retaliation for the ongoing assault on Kafuristan by the Likatonian Armed Forces and their allies.

OOC: I did not mention any casualty numbers in this post, i will leave the number of Likatonian dead and injured to MapleUnity and those of Al'Badara and Jakania to the respective players of Al'Badara and Jakania. I will also post this in the national papers of Likatonia, Al'Badara and Jakania.
