al-Kasraj: President al-Mostafa has signed a new cabinet into office following a proposal put forth by Prime Minister al-Alli. The new cabinet consists of, traditionally, ba'athist party members, combined with several former royalists, one member of the New Dawn party and three independent politicians generally considered to be social liberals. This means that the overall cabinet is considered moderate, in line with what experts believed would come from Prime Minister al-Alli. In addition to a new cabinet President al-Mostafa also, in a strong move, directly invited Prime Minister of Beiteynu Eliana Amìra to the port city of Zerin. In his official invitation, he noted that:

The Kafuri government is ready to open negotiations that would see the return of diplomatic relations, an end to the economic and energy embargoes and a general normalization of relations. We invite the Beiteynese Prime Minister to the port city of Zerin. We shall stand down any military personell and allow Beiteynese ships to enter the Zerin port. The Prime Minister can ofcourse be escorted and protected during the meeting.

Whether the Beiteynese will accept the invitation is unclear. Meanwhile yesterday the killer of President al-Saad was publicly hanged in the People's Square with the execution also being televized. The Dairat announced that since the shooting of President al-Saad at least 4391 individuals have been killed or apprehended in the fight against radical Ahmadism, with the Dairat working closely with the Republican Guard and the National police in its operation to combat radical Ahmadism. Behind the scenes many Ba'athist party members and high ranking officials within the Dairat seem dissatisfied and even angry with the President's proposal for negotiations on Kafuri soil, but have so far kept quiet as to avoid open conflict with the President.

al-Kasraj: The Hutorian warship "Kincardine", a Bekenial II class frigate, was struck by a major explosion this afternoon which is suspected to originate from Kafuri pirates operating in the Seat of Lost Souls. The explosion, recorded at 13:00 in the afternoon, struck a hole in the side of the ship and caused it to take on water, with crew desperately trying to keep the ship affloat. During the explosion a group of sailors had been on the side of the ship that was struck. Unfortunately, one of the sailors did not survive and five others were injured in the explosion. The Kincardine had warned the approaching pirate ship to back off, first believing it to be a regular stray fishing boat. Just when the helicopter on board of the Kincardine decided to move towards the boat for further inspection it started accelerating at high speeds and, despite initial attempts by the Kincardine to intercept the boat by opening light gunfire, crashed into the Hutorian warship and exploded. First reports suggest that the boat was filled with explosives, originating from Kafuri terrorist groups. Much remains unclear however and ships from the Kafuri coastguard immediately contacted Hutorian authorities and issued a exclusion zone so that the Hutorian navy could start a recovery operation. Currently ships from the Hutorian fleet in the Sea of Lost Souls are helping in containing the fire that has broken out and, once put down, will tow the ship towards a friendly port.

It is the first time that a warship of a major nation has been severely damaged by the pirates in the area and many wonder how they could have aquired such heavy explosives. President al-Mostafa condemned the attack and offered Kafuri help in combatting pirates off the Kafuri coast and work towards the proper conduct of the recovery operation. President al-Mostafa also issued a order for the Republican Guard to step up anti terror operations in the east and its coastline, hopefully able to root out some of the pirate hideouts that had so far been allowed to operate on the Kafuri shores. Hutori has yet to respond to the incident.

Kanjor: President al-Mostafa of the Majatran Republic of Kafuristan and Prime Minister Eliana Amìra of the Beiteynese Kingdom have commenced a historic meeting in the Kanjor capital of Atyr in order to normalize relations between the two nations. Both leaders arrived in the country shortly before the attack on a Hutorian warship in the Sea of Lost Souls. Both leaders noted the importance of a independent investigation into the attack and Kafuri president al-Mostafa reiterated that his country will work with Hutori and others in combatting piracy in the region. After a short press conference both met with Kanjor's Governor-General and retreated behind closed doors. The main topic: normalization of relations not just between Kafuristan and Beiteynu but between Kafuristan and the wider Majatran region. Kafuristan, in particular the Ba'athist regime, seeks to primarily gain diplomatic recognition while Beiteynu and its partners want assurances on human rights and clear deals on the oil supply on the continent. Negotiations are expected to last two weeks but President al-Mostafa has indicated he will stay for the full term of those two weeks in order to best lead the negotiations. Prime Minister Haashid al-Alli will take over the president's duties within Kafuristan, with some worried that party hardliners and the Dairat will use the President's absence to make a move. No indication of such a move has been given however. Hopes are now vested in what is called the "Atyr Summit", hopefully ending years of instability and crisis in Majatra.

al-Kasraj: Prime Minister al-Alli has been killed in a explosion in downtown Al-kasraj. The explosion, as reported by local media, was heard 3 towns away and destroyed an entire neighborhood, instantly killing al-Alli and his bodyguards as well as at least 17 civilians. While initially it was unclear who orchestrated the attack, the Dairat, Kafuristan its intelligence service, could be seen arresting the entire cabinet which had been meeting in the Presidential Palace for a cabinet meeting. Director of the Dairat, Rifaah al-Mourad, appeared on television shortly after in which he announced that the Dairat had prevented a islamist coup and that the cabinet, headed by al-Alli, was suspected of having orchestrated that coup. It was widely known that the Dairat and Republican Guard were unhappy with the direction of the country, as President al-Mostafa had steered it on a moderate course. No one in the country believes the islamist story and the Dairat, seemingly now under control of government, is struggling to pick its next step. Meanwhile the Kafuri Majatran Army issued a statement condemning the arrest of cabinet, with several army units seen on the move heading for the capital of al-Kasraj.

This entire situation plays out as President al-Mostafa is still in Kanjor to negotiate with the Beiteynese, with negotiations having lasted months now. Upon hearing the news the President wanted to return to al-Kasraj, but the Republican Guard has reportedly taken over its international airport, preventing any planes from landing. Tensions in the country have been high as the geopolitical situation seemed to stabilize. Living conditions in Kafuristan have dwindled significantly and poverty is on the rise as imports are still banned and Kafuri oil and gas is still in the ground instead of being transported to regional partners. The worsening conditions, combined with the moderate tone of al-Mostafa's government, have likely led to this Dairat orchestrated coup. Ba'athist party members could also be seen being apprehended by Dairat agents, however the Republican Guard continues to support ba'athist rule even as they also support Dairat actions. A complex, volatile situation is evolving as the country moves deeper into crisis.

al-Kasraj: In the first elections since the end of major violence in the country the new Progress Party of Kafuristan (PPK) and its presidential candidate al-Mansur have won the elections, capturing all seats in the national assembly and Mansur being elected president. The results have been denounced by (former) president al-Mostafa who currently lives in exile in Kanjor. The elections were held after nearly a year of intense street battles in the capital between the Kafuri Majatran Army and the Dairat/Republican Guard. At least 492 people died in the violence and thousands have been injured while large swathes of the city center have been destroyed. The fighting erupted following the assasination of former PM al-Alli, resulting in the army taking up arms against the Dairat and Republican Guard coupists. The resulting conflict, which ended two months ago, saw Ba'athist party members rellentlesely persecuted by Dairat agents with many Ba'athists leaving the country as a result. Party leadership collapsed and, once the dust had settled, the security apparatus was in control. To maintain some resemblance of continuity all sides agreed to adhere to the current constitution but pass reforms to allow for free elections and ban the Ba'athist party from participating. This thus resulted in the Progress Party, a big-tent reformist party, to win the elections with Hishaam al-Mansur (former actor) becoming President. al-Mansur had pledged to further reform civil rights in the country and restart relations with the Majatran continent. His party is also staunchly against corruption and seeks to rid the government of it. But many wonder who the real power will be in al-Kasraj, as the Dairat, Armed Forces and Republican Guard will retain their rivalries, potentially clashing in the future while civilian politicians hold very little influence in the country.

Former president al-Mostafa, now the legal representative of the Ba'ath party, has pledged to continue his government in a shadow form and has denounced the new government as "illigitimate". Whether other countries agree with his assesment remains to be seen. President al-Mansur is to appoint economist Abdus Samad el-Khalifa as Prime Minister, clearly choosing experienced hands to help him rebuild the country.
