President Vinal Parish has announced the official restructuring of the Hutorian Proletarian Party (HPP) into the "Ataraxian Confederation". This move changes three things concerning the party, its branding, internal structure and its view on agrarianism. Originally the Proletarians remained skeptical of genetically modified organisms, having been founded by Alfred Putnam, a gardener with experience in "organic farming", but within the past recent years, the party has come to support genetic modification. Vinal Parish, a physician himself, is no stranger to the scientific method and helped correct his party's previous critical view on genetically modified organisms.
President Parish wrote:The scientific consensus is that genetic modification is safe and beneficial. While we still support labeling genetically modified food, it should be clearly stated that the presence of genetic modification is not a cause of concern and only serves to inform the consumer of how their food has been created. Using genetic modification, we can make crops more efficient and healthier.
Old agrarian ways are outdated, we must embrace the present and future of genetic modification, we must work towards making newer technologies such as hydroponics more affordable and preferred. Nature has done well for its time, but we cannot rely on it completely, we must fill in the gaps with our own design. Only through science can we hope to objectively improve our lives.
I understand not all in the Hutorian Proletarian Party will like this change of view, but after countless debate among the Proletarian Council itself, we have reached unanimous agreement on this.
The Ataraxian Confederation, unlike the Hutorian Proletarian Party is now ruled directly by the leaders of the autonomous communes in the Kingdom of Adelia, with its membership open to the communal residents.
President Parish wrote:The Ataraxian Confederation was a dream and is now a reality. We will always embrace council communism: workplace democracy, but it is time we put our primary focus on the improvement of the human condition. Transhumanism shall be our new axiom. Using donations from the communes and from outside supporters, we will build more underground autonomous communes, where science and workers rule.
Ataraxianism is our ideology. What is Ataraxia? What does it mean to be Ataraxian? It means first and foremost to be a follower of the scientific method and support its findings. It is to use relentless research and analysis as a means of forming conclusions. It is to reject pessimism. It is to build and maintain better societies. Peace, science and self-determination is our motto.
Our current 64 communes have proven that planned communities can work and thrive with autonomy, but still cooperate with themselves and others such as the Kingdom of Adelia. As much as these communes have been a success, we must improve upon our system. For the future, we promise Hutorians our continued efforts to decentralize political control to local governments, empowering locals to determine their own policies, and we of course plan to build more communes.
The Ataraxians hope to build 64 more future communes in Adelia that incorporate hydroponics as their method of growing crops, although obtaining funding and autonomy for them will be their first hurdle. Parish's move to restructure the Hutorian Proletarian Party (HPP) represents the most radical change in the party's history. While the change is radical, many of the party's former organizations, such as the Hutorian Proletarian Guard (HPG), a paramilitary, have either been restructured into the Militia of the Ataraxian Confederation (MAC, or the "Ataraxian Militia"), or have splintered off into unarmed local movements outside the communes.
It remains to be seen if these changes will be accepted by Hutorian voters who have shown unprecedented support for the party in the recent past elections. Vinal Parish represents the second Proletarian party member to be elected as head of state, with Tiege Varnham being the first in June 4205. According to a recent poll done by the Bekenial, roughly 98% of now former Proletarians (138,682 of the 2.4 million members participated) approve of Vinal Parish, with 87% supporting the move to create the Ataraxian Confederation. While these are certainly high approval ratings, it would certainly appear the party's restructuring has been somewhat controversial in a party known for internal agreement being usually higher than 95%. Of course among the Ataraxian Council (includes 512 councillors), the approval rating for both Ataraxian ambassador Parish and the restructuring rests at 100%.
