Millard Expands Influence into Nsanlosa

Image

Hutorian based Millard has announced that it will be expanding on the ground directly in Dovani, with a massive investment in Nsanlosa based Megabite, a local software company that has been pushing for foreign capital to begin expansion. Millard will be investing some 150 million HLR into Megabite. This coincides to Millard opening up an office directly in country to aid in it's further expansion through Dovani with Nsanlosa merely being it's first step, according to sources at Millard. While Millard is the first company, it's not expected to be the last Hutorian entity looking at entry into Dovani via Nsanlosa, with Hutorian consumer electronics giant Horizon Technology seeking directly entry into the market and Lexington Entertainment teaming up with Millard with their investment into Megabite.

Conservatives launch Axe the Tax Campaign

Image

With under a year to go until the next election, the Conservative Party has launched what they are calling the Axe the Tax Campaign. The party has long opposed the continued imposition of the essential goods tax, which was originally introduced to help fund the Hutorian Armed Forces modernization and expansion. Party leader Benjamin Pisharo recently introduced the Axe the Tax Act in Parliament, and in a statement said;

"The government's insistence that this punitive tax on Hutorian families is needed to pay for the Armed Forces' expansion simply doesn't add up. This year, the Government of Hutori posted a surplus of 16,334,548,272 HLR. Revenues from the Liberal tax on everything essential totaled 16,765,319,008 HLR. Without the tax, we would have a deficit of roughly 430 million HLR.

Does this government seriously mean to tell Hutorians that instead of reducing government spending by less than 6 HLR per citizen, Hutorians must pay over 16.7 billion HLR in tax on the things they have no choice but to buy?

Conservatives will bring home common sense for Hutorians and take the tax off so people can keep the food on their tables."

Tory MP Pierre Pelletier (Glentingham Fanshawe), sporting an Axe the Tax t-shirt, introduces Pisharo at a recent rally in Glentingham.

The party has launched a series of campaign-style ads through online and traditional media, promising that a Conservative government would "Axe the Tax." Meanwhile, Pisharo and various members of his caucus are travelling across Hutori to host Axe the Tax rallies, which often draw thousands of supporters, and the party has launched Axe the Tax merchandise on its website.

Tory bill to eliminate essential goods tax set to pass with Liberal support

Image
Prime Minister Addison MacDonald and members of her cabinet rise to vote on Bill C-15, the Axe the Tax Act.

In a surprising turn of events, the Liberal government has caved to opposition pressure and voted in favour of Conservative Bill C-15, which would eliminate the essential goods tax, while increasing the luxury goods tax by 1% to maintain a balanced budget. The Tories tabled the bill in September, and moved for a vote immediately, citing the short time remaining in the Parliament.

Conservative leader Ben Pisharo appears at the House Standing Committee on Finance during its study on Bill C-15.

Upon calling for a vote, the Conservative leader challenged Liberal MPs to "stand up" and "support our common sense Conservative plan to Axe the Tax while maintaining a balanced budget", asking "or will they stand behind that Prime Minister and [her] punishing tax on everything essential?" The party launched a series of campaign-style ads and merchandise bearing the slogan, Axe the Tax, and calling on Liberal MPs to stand with Hutorians rather than the Prime Minister.

It seems the opposition's pressure tactics paid off, with the Liberals finally backing down on the tax. How this will effect the election outcome this summer is yet to be seen.

TORIES SWEEP TO MAJORITY VICTORY
Image

The Conservative Party has returned to government for the first time in 30 years after a landslide victory in the recent federal election. The party won majorities in every province except Lagard, where they still won a plurality. In the traditional Tory stronghold of Adelia, 112 of the province’s 137 seats went Conservative, and traditionally left-leaning Kenai voted 70.95% for the Conservatives, giving them 48 of the province’s 68 seats.

It was a good night for New Democrats as well, as they gain their first parliamentary caucus, winning 31 seats.

The new cabinet features many familiar Conservative faces, including former interim leader Isaac Houston (Glentingham—Essex), who becomes the new Minister of Finance, HAF veteran and long-time Tory defense critic Danyil Yehorenko (Tremaine—Interlake—Eastman), who takes on National Defense, and Leah Davies (Newport), who becomes Minister of Trade & Industry and Chief Government Whip. Rookie MP Glenwood Freeman (Port Prosperity–Cole Harbour) takes on Science & Technology, where he will be tasked with continuing Hutori’s recent push back towards the cosmos.

Royal Hutorian Navy Seeks to Rebuild Submarine Fleet

Image

After decades of planning, the Royal Hutorian Navy has announced that it will be moving forward with the reconstruction of the Mashacara class attack Submarines that were once the mainstay of the Hutorian submariner force. The Mashacara class, co-developed with Dorvik who uses them as the Graf class in the 51st century, were considered some of the best attack submarines in the northern hemisphere. While once developed to be used as a nuclear strike Submarine, able to carry nuclear missiles, sources within the Royal Hutorian Navy have verified this new generation of Mashacara class would not be used to carry nuclear weapons, nor did the Royal Hutorian military have even a passing interesting in acquiring "strategic weapons once more" strategic weapons being the term that the Hutorian military used to describe their nuclear and biological weapons programs.

The Royal Hutorian Navy plans on building two tranches of Mashacara class Submarines, with the first order being for four. In anticipation of their rebuilding, the Royal Hutorian Navy has also reactivated the Third Fleet, the numbered designation the Hutorian Navy historically used as the fleet level headquarters for their submarine force, with its traditional headquarters in Langdon, in Roccato, also being brought back up to operational capacity. Each Submarine is expected to cost some 5.5 billion HLR a piece and take 4 years each to build. Langdon Subworks has reportedly been offered the sole source contract, which will work with Carter Nuclear Group, the subsidary of the Carter Energy Group that had focused on nuclear power generation in Hutori for centuries and developed the nuclear power plants that have gone in every Hutorian nuclear submarine and nuclear powered Aircraft Carrier since their inception and construction, on ensuring the nuclear reactor that will go into the Mashacara meet Naval standards.

The Mashacara class Submarines will be the most expensive project the Royal Hutorian Navy has undertaken since the Hutorian military began their multi decade long Defence Modernization Program, and this particular phase is expected to be the cornerstone of the Royal Hutorian Navy going into the 55th century.

Foreign Affairs Department Recommends Hutorians Leave Baltusia, Minister Condemns Baltusian Response to Protests
Image
Foreign Affairs Minister Jared Redekopp in a recent interview with HBC News.

BEKENIAL – Hutori’s Department of Foreign Affairs is telling all Hutorians currently in Baltusia that they should leave the country if they are able to. Baltusia has faced severe rioting and violent protests in recent weeks after pro-democracy activists launched what is being described as a “Baltusian uprising.” There have been reports of growing anti-foreigner sentiment in the country as the protests continue, sparking concern from Hutori’s foreign office.

”The Government of Hutori is concerned by the ongoing events in Baltusia. We are recommending that all Hutorians currently in Baltusia take the utmost caution and if possible, they should seek to leave the country. At this time, we have not heard of any Hutorian being harmed, but we stand by ready to take further actions if necessary to protect all of our citizens abroad.

Our government is also concerned by the Baltusian government’s response to these protests, which has included the stripping of the right to trial in a court of law. We condemn this action in the strongest terms possible and call on Baltusia to reinstate this right for all Baltusians immediately.

My office is in contact with Baltusia’s foreign office, and we are committed to ensuring the safety of all Baltusians and Hutorians and bringing a peaceful resolution to this crisis.”

Hutorian First Fleet Withdraws from Aoi Sea, First Bunker class Begins Final Trials

Image
HMHS-Groombridge, the Flagship of the Hutorian First Fleet

Following weeks of increased tensions, and the threatened deployment of a Beitenyu Carrier Strike Group, the Hutorian First Fleet has withdrawn back to it's home port at Admiral Erik Steuart Naval Base in Axminister. A spokesperson for Vice Admiral Justin Dalton, the Chief of Naval Operations, stated the Royal Hutorian Navy was extremely pleased with the long term deployment of the First Fleet, which was able to sustain continued operations to secure the Aoi Sea, espceially in conjunction with their Dolgavan and Davostager allies. While the majority of the First Fleet is returning to port, the Department of National Defence has confirmed that the First Fleet will keep a rotating squadron of vessels in the Aoi Sea, between Kundrati, Endralon, Davostag and Hutori, to continue their anti-piracy and deterence patrols.

The first rotating squadron will a veteran squadron lead by the HMHS-Groombridge, a Newport class Cruiser which serves as the flagship of the First Fleet, and earned fame leading Task Force-Southern Shield during the World Congress Anti-Piracy mission off of Badara and Kafuristan. The Groombridge will be joined by two Liberty class Destroyers and a trio of Bekenial-II class Frigates. The surprise addition to the squadron is the newly constructed and launched HMHS-Houston, one of the new Bunker class Auxiliary Support and Command vessels, that the RHN is constructing to allow the RHN to operate long term away from Hutori. These patrols are being used for the work ups and trial cruises before it formally joins operations with the First Fleet in 5411. It's sister ship, HMHS-Garrison is scheduled to finish construction in 5412 and will be deploying with the Second Fleet out of Port Prosperity to operate in eastern Hutori.

HIHL Plans Massive Expansion
Image

The Hutorian Ice Hockey League today announced its plan to double the size of the league through a 25-year phased expansion. The first two expansion clubs will join the league for the 5412-13 season, and will be located in Axminster and Dalry. Every five years, two new clubs will join the league until there are 20 teams. Saint John, St. Adrian, Woodhurst, Wrightstown, Sutton City, Aylesbury, Kincardine, and Newport will all be included in the HIHL’s expansion.

To help build their clubs, expansion franchises will be able to select players from existing clubs in an expansion draft, and will have early negotiation rights for all pending UFA players heading into that summer’s free agency. They will also be guaranteed a top five pick in that year’s HIHL Entry Draft.

Teams will be added in pairs, with one team added to each of the existing North and South divisions. Once the final clubs are added in Kincardine and Newport, the divisions will be realigned, and split into North, South, East and West.

Starting in 5412-13, the top four clubs in each division during the regular season will make the playoffs. Once the league has 20 clubs, in 5432-33, the top 3 clubs in each division in the regular season will make the playoffs, with the first seed in each division earning a first round bye. All playoff series will remain best-of-seven.

Houston Sports & Entertainment to Purchase Two Expansion Clubs

Thus far, owners and ownership groups have been identified by the league for clubs in Axminster, Dalry, Saint John, Woodhurst and Wrightstown, and it has been announced that two of the clubs will be owned by Houston Sports & Entertainment. Currently, the company owns the Glentingham Steel, and will now own expansion franchises in Dalry and Woodhurst. This comes as Houston Enterprises, HSE's parent company, looks to begin expansion after many years of slow growth and job reductions. HSE says its two new clubs, and the new facilities that will be built to house them, will create more than 2,000 new jobs.

First Expansion Franchises Named

The first two expansion clubs have been named. The Axminster Lumberjacks and the Dalry Ducks will begin play in 5412-13, with the first expansion draft set to be held in Spring 5412, in conjunction with that year's HIHL Entry Draft. The clubs will be able to select two players from each of the ten existing HIHL clubs during the expansion draft, and will have the same odds as the team who finishes second last in the 5411-12 season in the 5412 HIHL Draft Lottery.
