Hutorian President Blasts Jelbania

In regards to the announcement that Jelbania is seeking the nomination for the B Seat on the Security Council President Plantinga issued the following statement to several international media organizations:

I find it laughable that they accuse other country's of religious intolerance yet they themselves have jailed Hosians on several occasions. They continue to ignore basic human rights and promote their own form of religious extremism. We in Hutori firmly believe in rights of the people something that is reflected in our politics. While I may not always agree with the parties in my country something we do agree upon is the necessity of the preservation of fundamental rights. Something that Jelbania has failed to do and so has their counterparts around the globe. The commitment to these rights has been reflected in our nominations for the Security Council and assuming we win our respective council seat will be reflected in our actions. So I ask you nations of Terra to stand up to tyranny, say no to persecution and say yes to liberty and fundamental freedoms.

Liberal Party Celebrates Surprising First Election Gains

Image
Lisa Probert watching the returns from Adelia as Liberal announced winner in Provincal elections.

Although it was ultimately a loss for the party Senator Lisa Probert, Leader of the Hutorian Liberal Party, was ecstatic at her campaign headquarter in Axminister, Adelia. By the end of the night the Liberals had captured 81 Seats nationwide and the Provincal Liberal Party of Adelia having captured 31 and assuming the mantle of Premiership, in what is widely acknowledged as Hutori's most conservative Province.

We may have lost but we show Hutorians there is another option that doesn't centre around the Right but that there are viable options on the left and we will continue showing that in the days to come as our Senators come to sit in Bekenial

Councillor and now Senator, Lisa Probert ran a tough Presidential campaign against the rest of Hutori's entrenched political party, ultimately finishing in 4th Place in the First Round of voting. Despite the loss Probert has assured her supporters next time would be different.

As a Party who was only registered and created 5 Months before the commencement of the 4104 Elections I think we did pretty damn good our first time out and we won't be denied moving forward. Next time we'll have had four years to prepare our organization, our supporters and our Party for the next election and next time we will elect a Liberal to 24 Orange Avenue!

Sharks Go Head to Head Against the Falcons

Jameson University's and the University of Bekenial's basketball teams play each other tonight in what is certainly going to be a heated game. These two school already have a heated rivalry but, with Bekenial occupying the top division seat and Jameson trailing ever so slightly behind both teams will certainly play their best. Will the Falcon's upset the division's balance of power or will the Shark's hold on to their division seat? Find out tonight at 6:00 PM HST (Hutorian Standard Time) on HCSN (Hutorian Collegiate Sports Network).

LDP Announces Restructuring

Image
Fmr. Judge William R. Berkley addresses supporters

WOODHURST, LAGARD - Milton Greenberg and Erica McPherson, the chairman and leader of the LDP, respectively, have announced their retirement from politics after many faithful years of service. Both served as Prime Minister, and Greenberg served for 4 years as President of Hutori.

The announcement came after yet another status quo result in elections. An open election for the positions was held at the LDP National Conference, with two frontrunners emerging for the open positions.

For Chairman, the two top contenders were former Finance Minister Peter McDowell (LDP-AD) and the outsider, Fmr. Adelia lower court Judge William R. Berkley (LDP-AD), a noted LDP legal scholar and senior fellow of the Mortimer Law Studies Center at the Liberty Institute in Acton, Adelia, an LDP owned think tank. After the two rounds of balloting, Judge Berkley won 52% to 47%, with 5% for none of the above or write-ins.

The Leader race was similarly contested between an outsider and an insider. Former Justice Minister Leonard North squared off against Dr. Liam Thatcher, PhD, another member of the Liberty Institute. Dr. Thatcher won in the first round with 51% of the vote.

"The LDP must be an intellectual party," Dr. Thatcher said to supporters. "The Judge and I will not only be politicians, but also philosophers."

Dr. Thatcher is planning on running for an Adelia seat in the next election, the one previously owned by Fmr. PM Greenberg. Judge Berkley will be running for President.

Populists announce Infrastructure and Health candidates
Image

After the latest cabinet restructuring, the Populists have announced two relatively unknown politicians for positions: Rafael Dinguiez and Alexander Xerezok.

Dinguiez had this to say, "I am proud that the Populists have selected me as the Infrastructure candidate. I go for the people, listen to the people and thank the people."

Xerezok, an immigrant from the Trigunian Empire, said "We want to make Hutori the best nation to live. I hated living in Trigunia, so I immigrated to here. Let's make sure others are able to do the same."

The Populists hope to keep these young two men in office for the foreseeable future.

Liberal Senate Caucus Grilling Government

Image
Liberal Senator Michael Banfield during Question Period

As the year turned in 4111 Liberal Senators have been lighting a fire under the heels of Government during Question Period, unleashing a myriad of legislative questions. The Liberals have become one of the most vocal parties in the Senate at keeping the government accountable, even as two of their own sit in Prime Minister Jacob Daniel's ruling Cabinet.

Particularly attention has been paid to anything proposed by the theoretically governing National Progress Party, who have been seen by many political experts as being guilty of being politically detached.

"Legislation from the NPP rarely pops up any other time kf the year other then during the run up to elections. President Tom Bokota rarely gives the Cabinet or Senate even a mild agenda or focus and is rarely seen out of Ross House, outside of the most basic of State functions." Said one political commentator.

The fire under the Liberal Party is likely directly attributed to its venerable Leader, Senator Lisa Probert. The sting of the 8th Place Finish in the 4108 elections still burns in the mind of most of the Liberal Caucus, with particular blame and scorn being placed at Probert and, Party President, Donald Toews feet.

There is a general consensus that should the election not show favorable returns for the Liberals, Toews will likely be dismissed and Probert may fail her Leadership Review at the Liberal's June AGM in 4112.

Liberals Hard on Campaign Trail

Image
Liberal Leader Lisa Probert meeting supporting in Axminister

With the Seating of the Senate finished for this election cycle the long 6 Months until the 4112 elections are underway and the Liberal Party has hit the ground running with a blitz across the entire nation.

The Liberal Party is hoping to capitalize on their drift to the left to leech off traditional supporters of the Liberal Democrats and Farmer Labour Seats to push themselves out of their rut; the Liberal Party had 33 Seats at the closing of the last Senate and was the smallest Party with Official Federal Party Status in the National Senate (the Hutori National Party only having 10 Seats and the Populist Party being region locked to Kenai)

Liberal Leader, Senator Lisa Probert, began her campaign sweep across Hutori in Axminister, her home city, to defend her city and rally support. Axminister has been seen as the singular left wing bastion in Adelia for decades, the rest of the province resolutely conservative outside if a few key ridings in other major urban centers, and is key for the Liberal Party to remain competitive in the south.

Elsewhere the Liberals have been campaigning hard, particularly on Kenai and Roccato, to try and Claw their way back into the Senate in a big way. Liberal Presidential Nominee Steve Gregerich of Wrightstown, was seen at a rally in Langdon hoping to drum up support.

While their is high hopes for the Senate, some Party insiders have admitted that their chances for the Presidency are significantly slimmer, which is why the failed 4108 Candidate is the Party's standbearer again.

LDP Hold National Convention

Image
Judge Berkley took the office of Chairman prior to the 4008 elections and was a candidate for President at the time

THRONE, ROCCATO -- At the quad-annual Liberal Democratic Party National Convention, Judge William R. Berkley was again sworn in as Chairman, and thus as Presidential candidate.

"We need to take drastic action to ensure that the President is not re-elected," Berkley told the audience. "That means we have to work with the other parties to ensure that the Liberal Democrats, who are the fourth largest party in the Senate, can go toe-to-toe with the NPP."

Some critics have suggested the LDP has lulled into another bout as a second-tier party, but Berkley disagrees.

"We are the choice for all Hutorians," Berkley said. "We are the party of liberty, of freedom, and that's a popular message."

Berkley finished a disappointing fifth place in the last election, but hopes with the support of minor parties he can be launched into the fray with the major parties.

Deputy Prime Minister Liam Thatcher was also re-elected as Leader, and in his speech praised what he calls "Hutorian values".

"Hutorian values are liberty, are freedom, are doing whatever you want and achieving your dreams," Thatcher said. "Hutorian values have no place for statism, and for running other peoples' lives. We believe in charity, in helping others, but not by creating a destructive incentive structure which will only hurt the poor."

Probert Narrowly Remains Leader

Dissidence within the Liberal Party backbench almost reached a fevered pitch during the Liberal Party of Hutori's Annual General Meeting, hosted this year in Hamilton, a large city in Adelia's northwest on its industrial heartland near Glentingham.

Liberal Leader Lisa Probert was faced with a party membership Base that has noted the Adelian Liberals continously failing to make good showings, while the Kenai Liberals dominated the conversations and the Liberal Shadow Cabinet. It was also noted that Probert elected to remain as chief in the Senate rather then take a position in the new Cabinet. There are some rumors circulating that this is an attempt stifle the influence of incredibly popular Senator Isaac Fitzpatrick, the Liberals Senate Leader. This has been cynically confirmed, say some pundits, by the appointment of Senator Steven Gregerich to Education and Culture Minister and two time standard-bearer for the Liberal Party in the 08 and 12 Presidential campaigns, and widely seen as Probert seeks biggest rival for Leader. The assumption was his appointment was to limit his influence and contact with the greater Liberal Senate Caucus.

Ultimately Probert won her Review with a 61%, but it shows a significant portion of the Liberal Party was ready for a change of leadership, something unlikely lost on the veteran Senator.

Logan Arrives in Dorvik

Image
Foreign Affairs Minister Gary Logan and his Chief of Staff,

Earlier today Minister of Foreign Affairs Gary Logan arrived in Haldor, the capital of the Dorvische Republik for talks with the Dorvische Government. He was met at the Airport by Ambassador Lance Ryan before heading off to the Hutorian Embassy where he would he staying.

Foreign Minister Logan is expected to remain in Dorvik for several Days for various talks with numerous Dorvische officials.

Logans trip is the first of many rumored trips he'll be making internationally to keep Hutori's international image alive in light of its election to the World Congress Security Council.

Hutori and Dorvik have been long historical allies, and this visit by Logan is likely meant to reignite those ties.
