Logan Departs for Rutania

Following a two week stint in Dorvik Minister of Foreign Affairs Gary Logan departed the northern Artanian nation for another of Hutori's allies on the continent, Rutania.

Arriving at Vanderburg International Airport Logan was met by Ambassador Hope Maxwell, Hutori's Ambassador to Rutania, and Commodore Dean Marko, the commanding Officer of McCarthy Naval Base, Hutori's Naval Base in Rutania.

Following his welcome at the airport Logan was spirited away to the Presidential Palace where he met directly with President Rebecca Jackson.

Logan is scheduled to give a speech to the Rutanian Assembly later this evening, the first Foreign states person to do so since Rutania's reform from Commonwealth to Republic and many are expected to watch with interest.

Liberals Swarm Wrightstown for AGM

The Liberal Party of Hutori met in Wrightstown earlier this week for their Annual General Meeting; their last leasing up to next year's Elections.

This AGM is notable as being the first AGM not hosted in Adelia, showing the ever rising influence of the large Kenai caucus which has been seen a growing and influential faction in the Liberal Party.

Image
Liberal Executive President Irene d'Entremont

The AGM was kicked off by Party Executive President Irene d'Entremont announcing that the Liberals would not be fielding a candidate in the Presidential Race next year, but would instead seeking to endorse and support another Presidential Candidate, and that the Executive Committee was still discussing whom they would end up endorsing.

Political analysts have stated the Liberal strategy is quite smart. While it does deny them having a shot at the Highest Office in the Republic, by endorsing a potentionally successfully Candidate the Party is likely hoping to leverage a better position in the Cabinet after the election. Also by avoiding the incredibly costly Presidential Race the Party can focus on the Senate and any vulnerable Seats and races that might pop up, an especially important task considering how crowded the Race is looking to be, as of this writing 9 Political Parties were registered to run in next year's April Elections.

Liberal Leader Lisa Probert also laid out the Liberals legislative agenda for the next sitting, hoping to garner support ahead of her Quadrannual Leadership, scheduled for 4118. There has been an ever growing amount of dissendence against Probert for her lack of successes and seeming check out of Senate; her Shadow Cabinet mostly handles the bulk of the work during Question Period and even Liberal Senate Leader Isaac Fitzpatrick appears to be doing more heavy lifting.

It's assumed that if the Liberals don't have a fantastic showing next April the Party may dump Probert as their Leader. Thus far only two figures, Liberal Senate Leader Senator Isaac Fitzpatrick and Education and Culture Minister Steve Gregerich have the followings capable of succeeding Probert as Leader.

Liberal Democrats Prepare to Make Gains

Image
Senator Liam Thatcher is reportedly feeling the heat as disgruntled members attempted to push him out of the leadership

WRIGHTSTOWN, KENAI -- At the Liberal Democratic Party's national convention, the Liberal Democratic Chairman and Leader were both challenged in leadership contests by angry members.

Leader Liam Thatcher, who previously served as Deputy Prime Minister, first came to the office through an outsider revolt. However, he found himself at the mercy of a revolution himself, when Candice Poliakoff, a young Senator in her first term, challenged him for the leadership. Thatcher managed to win with 64% of the vote, but those 36% who voted against him were reportedly quite passionate.

Judge William R. Berkley, a man so outside the fray he refused to run for Senate, was challenged by Senator Randolph Hulbert, the Spokesman for Agriculture. Berkley managed to win with 56% of the vote, a much narrower margin, but Hulbert declared his support for Berkley after he lost. "He is the best candidate in the race. There is nobody else who will protect our liberty," Hulbert said to the audience.

The convention was noticeably smaller than previous ones, but there was no shortage of fire in the voices of the speakers. Liam Thatcher declared that this is the year that the Liberal Democrats need to push forward and win, and Berkley echoed those calls with a declaration that "this time, we must take 24 Orange Avenue". The Liberal Democrats have not had a President in office since Milton Greenberg.

2 February 4115

The government has announced that a contract has been signed between the Confederation and HTC to produce new fighter jets for the miltiary to replace the obsolete old fighter jets. The designation for the new jets are still to be decided and will be announced soon, so said a spokesman from the Ministery of Defence. The President commented that he was happy that the Minister of Defence and him could secure such a deal. ''It is very important to understand that we want new jobs in our country and modernise our military. We are doing that with this deal, the company has agreed that the jets will be manufactured in our nation by people hired here in the Confederation, securing extra jobs for the next 4 years.'' The President added that he hoped more companies would hire new workers and shift their production towards the nation.

Probert Defeated, Kenai Caucus Seizes Control

Image
Former Senator Lisa Probert

The Liberals setback in the April Elections saw former Senator Lisa Probert lose her seat in Axminister and her ultimate step down as Leader of the Party she helped establish a decade and a half ago.

The Liberal Party lost 7 Seats in the National Senate, losing the bulk of their caucus and indeed Official Party Status in three of Hutori's Provinces, including Adelia. Those losses, combined with Probert's defeat in her own Riding ultimately sealed her fate.

Ironically this was combined with a stellar night in Kenai where the Liberals actually gained Seats and the Liberal Party of Kenai was able to form Government, with its new Premier, Irving Parker bring ecstatic in his home Riding in Saint Adrian.

Probert's defeat and step down as Triggered a Leadership Race that ultimately will be resolved at the Liberal Party's AGM in 4118. For the interim, highly popular Liberal Senator Isaac Fitzpatrick has agreed to step in as Interim Leader in the Senate, and as vowed now to run for Leader so he would stay impartial in the Leadership race.

Thus far three names have stepped forward for Party Leadership, Gary Logan and Steven Gregerich, the Foreign Affairs and Education and Culture Ministers in the Olson Cabinet respectively and longtime Liberal Senator from Roccato, Michael Banfield, the Liberals Finance Critic.

Interim Leader Fitzpatrick has stated he won't change the make up of the Shadow Cabinet, leaving that duty to the incoming Leader in two years.

Second term Liberal Senator Madison Albright was elected by the slightly reduced Liberal Caucus as their new Senate Leader.

William R. Berkley Resigns as Chairman of LDP

Image
Interim Chairman Wayne Taft campaigning for Berkely during the 4116 elections

WOODHURST, LAGARD -- Following unrest after the defeat, and reported threats of LDP's shadow cabinet threatening to resign, Former Judge William R. Berkley has stepped down as the Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party.

Berkley cited a belief that he was "simply not resonating" with the voters as he had liked to. Advisers close to the former chairman say that he hated his daily duties and campaigning, and wanted to return to his life of quietly writing books and research at the Liberty Institute. It is reported he has already been re-accepted into a fellowship there.

A young Senator from Saint John, Falristan, the current Justice Minister, has been appointed the interim chairman until the next convention. Wayne Taft, the great-grandson of party founder Stewart Taft, was an active lawyer who earned his JD from Bishop University in Roccato.

Party leader Liam Thatcher managed to avoid the angry mob, having held onto the seats from the last election. It is notable that there has been a significant decline in support for the LDP since Berkley and Thatcher have taken office, but they blame it on the growing support for other parties.

Liberals Celebrate Diplomatic Victory as Senate Stalls

Although the Hutorian Senate is still Deadlocked by the lack of a new Cabinet, the Liberals celebrating a major diplomatic victory as President Jenna Smith signed the Hutorian - Rutanian Treaty of Friendship & Cooperation, a renewed and updated version of the original Treaty of Diplomatic Engagement signed in the 3700s.

The signing of this Treaty with the backdrop of a Deadlocked Senate is a major feather in the cap of Foreign Affairs Minister Gary Logan.

Logan is considered a frontrunner for Leadership of the Liberal Party and this Treaty Signing proves his diplomatic and leadership abilities, able to still put Hutorian interests above his own political needs.

Minister Logan is currently in Bekenial awaiting to see whether or not his tenure as Foreign Minister is over as the Senate continues to debate Cabinets.

Currently only the LDP have a Cabinet Proposal up for a vote, while the National Progress Party proposed one a few weeks ago at the behest of President Smith. The Liberal Caucus in the Senate have not been forgiving for the deadlock, twice calling out rhe National Progress Party for their slowness in dealing with the deadlock and encouraging other major political parties to offer Cabinets, if only to get Government back in working order.

Liberals Host Huge Fundraisers

With the passage of Bill L-4 the Liberal Party of Hutori responded by hosting a series of huge Fundraisers across the country in an effort to boost the Liberal Party's Warchest ahead of the 4020 elections.

This focus on fundraising by Liberal Executive President Irene d'Entremont is a gambit to shore up floundering Liberal election prospects, which have been plagued from the last two cycles by immense voting splitting. The largest Fundraiser was hosted in Bekenial for Senator Mariah Steuart, at Steuart House itself, the home of the ancestral and now defunct Hutorian Royal Family.

While the Family has lost its royal ties and lineage the Steuart name still carries significant weight; the Steuart Foundation is considered one of the most powerful Not-for-profit in the country and the Steuart are still tied into Hutori in the same respect as the Carmichaels, Woodburys or Bishops.

Federalist Caucus Fractured

The Federalist Party began its primary race today and right out of the gate it had several issues. Typically speaking there is usually only one clear candidate within the Federalist Party. Great unity is typically rallied around that individual however, that is not the case with this primary with ten separate Federalist candidates. This unprecedented departure from the norm many speculate is due to the lack of international, political and domestic participation from other parties and the disillusionment with them. Among the candidates was Anthony Smith a venture capitalist and occasional television personality. Whether this fragmentation spells the end of the Federalists or the beginning of a new era only time will tell.

Liberals Elect New Leader at AGM

The Liberal Party of Hutori hosted their annual General Meeting at the Drumf Hotel in Port Prosperity this past week and walked out a changed Party. This AGM was highly anticipated and attended; this was the first AGM since the Party's founding that a Leadership Race would occur and delegates flew in from across the country to participate.

Walking into the Leadership Race the only three candidates were Michael Banfield from Throne Roccato, Steven Gregerich from Wrightstown and Gary Logan from Port Prosperity. Banfield has served as the Liberal's Finance Critic since the Party's founding while Logan and Gregerich both served as Cabinet Ministers, Foreign Affairs and Education & Culture respectively. Gregerich also served as the Liberals standard-bearer for two Presidential elections.

Senator Gregerich ultimately triumphed on the Second ballot, with former Liberal House Leader Senator Isaac Fitzpatrick formally handing over the reins.

While the main attraction of this AGM was the Leadership other business that did attract some attention was the financial update from Executive President Irene d'Entremont who announced that the Liberals had successfully raise nearly 12 million HLR in donations and fundraising in their first year thus far since the passage of Bill L-4. d'Entremont further stated with pride that this election cycle no Liberal Candidate would need to recieve Federal Campaign Funding as the Party had reached their desired goal.

It was revealed that Senator Mariah Steuart of Bekenial was actually the single most successful fundraiser, personally raising 485,000 HLR on her own initiative.
