Albert van Brummen elected Bread Party Leader

Following the slow decline in Bread Party support among Hutorian voters, the Bread Party has called for a leadership election to replace Rose Williams. She has been party leader for the past 8 years since the party's reformation. Williams has been criticized for her centrist views that were steering away from the party's vision.

Albert van Brummen, chairman of the Bread Party from 5192-5200, won the race with 67.2% of the vote. Brummen said the following in his victory speech:

I'm looking forward to continuing the party's vision into the next century and will stand committed to fighting for the people of Hutori. The teachings of Joseph Croissant will not be forgotten.

Daveth Townsend was elected to replace Brummen as chairman, Townsend was previously running for a member of the Senate from 5198-5200.

Kathleen Davidson return to Presidency and form ''common sense cabinet'' with RLD and PCPH

Former President and leader of the National Progress Party Kathleen Davidson has been elected once again as the President of Hutori. After finishing close second for the first round, Davidson won a staggering majority of nearly 66% of votes for the second round. Davidson received the endorsements of multiple parties. Namingly the MPH, the PCPH and the, during the second round, she had the endorsement of the Republican Liberal Democrats.

The victory of the National Progress Party in the presidency was also couple with large gains for the NPP in the Senate election. Without returning to its former dominance over hutorian politic, the National Progress Party gain 30 new seats, making it the largest party in the National Senate once more. Most of these gains have been made in Roccato and in Lagard, two provinces that had previously shun away from he party during the 4195 and 4196 election. These results, in the eyes of the President, gave her the mandate form a new cabinet:

''The message sent by the people during these elections was loud and clear. They don't want far-right extremist in government anymore. The people have chosen common-sense over radical ideological zealots. As soon as the result were known, I proposed a new government to the National Senate, which was accepted quickly by the members of the new majority. I tasked Prime Minister Chamber to once again lead a government. She had done a wonderful job as head of government before and I trust her fully to lead the reforms that our nation desperately needs.''
-Kathleen Davidson, President of Hutori

Many observers were surprised to see the content of this new government coalition. The coalition members share little in common outside of their opposition to the previous regime. Some are monarchist and other are fierce republicans. Some are economically left-wing while other have, in the previous years, favored privatisation. The new Prime Minister, Sarah Chamber, explain that ''common-sense'' is the rally point of her coalition.

''It's true, we have assemble in this government that think very differently. But that's not a bad thing, I would argue it's a good things. We can have intense and heated debate as long as, in the end, we are capable of forming a compromise for the greater good of the hutorian people. This is a government of common-sense, we will seek to find solution that works for all hutorian. All parties member of this coalition will be allowed independently to propose more ideologically incline proposition to the National Senate, but, we will vote together when it comes to important reforms of the state. They are many issue right now that needs our attention like foreign policy, the state of our military or the economy. We will come forward in the few months with solution to these problems.''

Houston gives glimpse into plans for post-Bill C-3 spending

Image
Finance minister James Houston exits the Senate after Question Period.

Today in the Senate, finance minister James Houston gave a glimpse of his plans to use money from the Hutorian Sovereign Wealth Fund once Bill C-3 passes. Bill C-3: An Act to amend the Hutorian Sovereign Wealth Fund Act, 5091 would allow the minister, with the approval of the Senate, to use money from the fund for "major projects of national interest". Currently, funds may be withdrawn to cover a deficit, however it limits the fund's annual loss to 5% of its value. Houston's bill would remove that cap, so long as the fund balance remains above 1 tillion Lira.

After the Unionist Front's announcement that they would be voting against, Houston gave a fiery response, providing some insight on his future spending plans.

To my honourable colleague from the Unionist Front, I must ask, why do they oppose utilizing our vast wealth that has been built up in the Hutorian Sovereign Wealth Fund? These funds could be used to, perhaps, accelerate the defense modernization plan that their government began, repair and build new infrastructure, and spur new economic development across Hutori. Why are the Unionist Front insistent on holding Hutori and Hutorians back?

- Houston during debate on Bill C-3

If this statement was indicative of his plans, we can expect to see some major investments in defense, infrastructure, and economic development in the near future. When asked for further comment, Houston's press secretary gave the following statement.

"Minister Houston intends to work with his government colleagues to determine just how the wealth from the Hutorian Sovereign Wealth Fund can be best utilized to improve the lives of Hutorians. National defense is indeed a key priority for Ministers Houston and Bezan, and their Progressive Conservative colleagues, as are repairs and replacements of aging key infrastructure. Our government will ensure that any funds utilized will make a noticeable difference in the lives of Hutorians.

Before that can happen, however, the Senate must approve Bill C-3."

Hutori propose the Lievenia Sea Accord

The government of Hutori announced a new international treaty: the Lievenia Sea Accord. The treaty concerns the nations that are defined as neighboring the Lievenia Sea; Hutori, Davostag-Kivonia, Kirlawa and Dorvik. The accord aim at creating some kind of agreement on economic trade between the different nations around the sea. In addition, the treaty also contain some provision about the defence of the Lievenia Sea. This treaty was created on the impulse of the President of Hutori, Kathleen Davidson. She addressed the press earlier this morning to explain this new accord:

''Good morning everyone. We are extremely proud to present today this new treaty. Me, the Prime Minister and the entire cabinet have been working very hard on it for the last years. The Lievenia Sea is a very strategic economic zone. For us, it was the logical next step to find ways to improve the Lievenia Sea as an economic trade route. Looking at the perspective for Hutori, the treaty will give us better access to the markets of the north of Artania.

Effectively, we are trying to transform the Lievenia Sea into an economic hot spot. The minister of Infrastructure and Transport have already layout plans to improve our port infrastructure along its coastline. We expect to see trade in the region flourish greatly in the next few years. It will really be a win-win situation for all members of this treaty. ''
-Kathleen Davidson, President of Hutori

The Prime Minister of Hutori, Sarah Chamber also wanted to add some comments:

''Our allies both abroad and domestic have been very cooperative. So far, both Dorvik and Davotag-Kivonia have expressed their willingness to join this accord. Sadly, it is quite difficult at the moment to have a clear response from Kirlawa as the political situation there is uneasy. We will be working on having them join in as soon as the political situation there gets better. When it comes to Hutori, We are quite confident to be able to have the National Senate adopt the treaty before the next election. ''

Tories make gains, form government in Falristan

Image
Incoming Falristan premier Doug Gord shakes hands after his victory speech on election night.

The Progressive Conservatives saw a net gain of six seats across Hutori on election night, including a big gain in Falristan that saw popular PC Senator Doug Gord elected as the province's new premier.

The PCs polled well repeatedly heading into the campaign, largely accredited to their bills C-3 and C-4, which opened the door to greater utilization of the Hutorian Sovereign Wealth Fund and kicked off one of the largest infrastructure projects in Hutori's history.

Heading into the second term of this coalition it appears the alliance of parties is expanding to now include the Bread Party. With new voices at the cabinet table, it will be interesting to see if the Tories can continue pushing forward on their agenda.

In an interview, PC leader James Houston said his party's biggest priority for the new Senate term is expanding upon the UF/League government's defense modernization plan. He says he has full confidence that Defense Minister Martin Bezan will table a plan that will bring Hutorian forces back to global prominence.

GAMER:"COMMON SENSE SHOULD PREVAIL"

Bekenial (Adelia), October 5204
From your own correspondent

Today, partyleader and Senator for Bekenial, Frank Gamer, was willing to answer questions from the presscore about the policies of his party.

Are you satisfied with the election result ?

Yes, we have gained 2 seats while being in Government. Usually, a party is in danger of loosing some. We joined a coalition which included the Bread Party this time and the RLD is happy about that because of the fact that the voice of th left and liberals has been strengthened in the Cabinet.

What does that mean ?

That for instance matters concerning foreign-, national- and defence policies might change and shift a bit towards the agenda of both my party and the Bread Party.

Talking about foreign policy. Why was Mark Nicholson replaced by Charles Dragonshire as Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister in the current Cabinet?

Mark did a wonderful job and was a great Minister. But......the way he expressed his views as minister wasn't always appreciated. The party and Mark concluded that he could play an important political role for the RLD in Adelia where he is leading the provincial party. Charles is a former Ambassador in Dundorf, Istalia and Mondusia and is a very experienced diplomat. He will represent our values in the Cabinet as Minister and Deputy Minister.

How do you reflect on discussions ending the support for Dorvik for seat A of the Security Council ? In the end nothing changed.

At this moment, the Government will not change its position. However, that cannot be taken for granted for ever of course. The Government evaluate its position towards nations every now and then. Hutori and Dorvik have friendly diplomatic ties for ages and we monitor developments in that nation as we do elsewhere and compare the result of this proces with our own policies and moral values. That might lead to discussions about possible major or minor policy adjustments. There are no taboos. Dorvik and Hutori have a longlasting, constructive and open relationship and as I said before, my nation evaluate our international relations periodically. Hutori does not judge nations on just names and titles but on their deeds. Common sense should prevail.

What steps you're willing to take against the brotherhood movement?

It's a small but dangerous movement and should be rejected by all liberal nations by diplomatic means. Hutori will do its part and I'm happy to see that the number of members is dropping. Mark's words did have some effect. As proof of that, sources in Dorvik reported that the ruling party of Dorvik ended their membership of the Brotherhood a short time ago. That's how friendship works: respect for each other values.

Hutorians to head to polls in November

With the Progressive Conservatives casting their votes in favour of early elections, the bill will pass and Hutorians will be heading to the polls in November. While the governing coalition's majority only grew larger with the dissolution of the League, Hutorian law requires early elections if 10 per cent of seats in the Senate become vacant.

This election could seriously shake the Hutorian political landscape, as former League voters make their decision on who to support this time around. It is widely expected that most of these voters will split amongst the more moderate Progressive Conservatives, who have served in cabinet for the last six years, and the far-right Unionist Front. If the PCs can maintain their upward momentum over the last two elections, the Tories could find themselves weilding much more power on the governing benches.

Houston enters presidential race

Image

Progressive Conservative leader James Houston is running for President in the upcoming snap election. The decision comes as a surprise to many after the Tory boss publically backed incumbent President Kathleen Davidson in the last two elections.

Speaking to reporters after his campaign launch event, Houston explained his decision.

"I think President Davidson has been a fine leader, but it is time for a new voice in the President's Office. Progressive Conservatives have fought hard for Hutorians over the last six years and have secured vital investments in Hutori's future, but the work has only just begun. I believe I, and our party, are ready to take on the leadership of the government.

I'm running to build a stronger Hutori, and I look forward sharing our vision on the campaign trail."

Disappointing election results: Davidson and Chamber leave the leadership of the National Progress Party

Lots of people in the National Progress Party were obviously bitter with the result of the early election of November. In this election, the NPP had both lost their title of largest party in the Senate and the Presidency. If the lost of seats wasn't in itself that catastrophic, only losing 5 seats compare to the last election, to see their leader not even qualifying for the second round of the Presidential election was an hard blow. This was enough for former President Kathleen Davidson to leave her position of leader of the National Progress Party:

''It has become more than clear that the National Progress Party needs new blood. The result of the last election were clear, the people don't reject the National Progress Party, but they rejected me. I can't in these circumstances, I can't stay in politic. It is my duty to my nation and my party to leave.

I am proud of what we accomplish in the last 12 years. We fought a far right government that wanted to take away some of the most basic human rights and won. We prevailed in our fight to ensure the survival of our republic. We formed two successful governments. We brought many important reforms and created the Lievenia Sea Accord ensuring access to new market for the hutorian economy.

Finishing, I would like to congratulate the new President Albert van Brummen. I trust entirely that he will do a good job as the new Head of State of Hutori and I commit to do everything in my power to ensure a smooth and easy transition. I would also like to congratulate the Centrist Party for having made their first entry into the National Senate. ''

Shortly after, Sarah chamber, current Prime Minister and chairwoman of the NPP announced that she would leave her position within the party:

''The former President explained it better than I could. The National Progress Party needs new leadership. I cannot, in good faith, stay while my leader is leaving. I will stay as Prime Minister for as long as it take to form a new government. I also intend to stay as Senator until the end of my term, after what I will leave politic altogether. ''

It should be noted that Prime Minister Chamber was the longest serving Prime Minister since the restitution of the Federal Republic. Staying in the position for non-consecutive terms amounting to 12 years, she led 3 different government.

After those announces, the National Progress Party had informed the press that George Russell, a former Minister and long time serving Senator, was elected as the new chairman of the party. If the National progress Party is to keep the position of Prime Minister, he is expected to take the position. They also announced that Jordan Brown, the Senator for Acton North, would become interim leader of the party until the members can assemble to elect a new leader.
