Francis Reardon Retires; Leadership Elections To Be Held

Image
Reardon waves goodbye as he boards his private jet

Acton, Adelia -- From 4169 to 4172, Francis Reardon was the President of the Federal Republic of Hutori, overseeing massive growth in federalism and limiting central power. In the decade that followed, Reardon continued to push Hutori down a path of diplomatic non-intervention, anti-centralism, and free market economics. Reardon finally announced his retirement after finishing fourth in the 4187 elections. "I step down as chairman, but the movement I started will never die," Reardon told a crowd of his close friends, colleagues and family at the United Hutori headquarters in Acton.

Former Prime Minister John William Henry (UH-AD), Reardon's longtime associate who began his leadership when Reardon began his chairmanship, will most likely take the position of Chairman from his longtime friend. Mr. Henry has been announced as acting chairman, with Deputy Leader Jean Duke (UH-FA) stepping in as acting leader. "There is still much to be done," said Ms. Duke following Reardon's departure. "We are just getting started."

Leadership candidates are expected to include rising stars such as David O'Malley (UH-FA), Ronald McGregor (UH-FA), and Bill O'Hare (UH-RO). There is also some talk of longtime Reardon confidant and UH backroom dealer Alexander Urquhart (UH-KE) announcing his intentions, but as Urquhart is nearly 60 years old, his chances seem more slim.

Chairman elections looked to be locked up with only John William Henry (UH-AD) formally announcing his intentions.

As Reardon Honor Controversy Heats Up, UH Elects New Leadership

Image
Fmr. Prime Minister John William Henry addresses the crowd after his election as Chairman

ACTON, ADELIA -- John William Henry (UH-AD), who served briefly as Prime Minister of Hutori under President Reardon in 4172, was elected Chairman of United Hutori at the United Hutori Conference, called after the retirement of Francis Reardon (UH-AD) as Chairman of the party. Reardon chaired the party from 4167 to 4187, leading to some of the largest wins in the history of United Hutori or its predecessor, the Liberal Democratic Party of Hutori.

John William Henry is a member of the wealthy Henry family of Adelia, known for their steel refineries. Henry previously served as Operating Vice President of John Henry Steel, Inc., but ultimately left the position to pursue a career in politics. Mr. Henry is a close friend and confidant of Fmr. President and PM Reardon.

The open position was that of Leader of United Hutori, typically the candidate for Prime Minister. John William Henry previously served in this position during Reardon's entire tenure as Chairman.

Three candidates emerged to contest the position: David O'Malley (UH-FA), Bill O'Hare (UH-RO), and Alexander Urquhart (UH-KE). O'Hare and O'Malley were seen as the frontrunners right off the bat, with Urquhart trailing far behind. After the election began, however, O'Hare suddenly quit the race, saying he preferred to spend more time with his family. He endorsed Urquhart, leading to a comfortable win for the 59 year old Senator from Kenai.

Urquhart did not comment on the mysterious drop-out of O'Hare, but said he would revitalize the party's benches while Henry focused on the Presidency.

Proletarians Disillusioned With United Hutori

Postby TheCollectivist » Fri Mar 31, 2017 1:28 am

July 4188

Following the resignation of Reardon, the former leader of United Hutori and Hutorian president, the Hutorian Proletarian Party (HPP) has become gradually disillusioned with United Hutori and in a recent interview with press from the Bekenial, has decided to pull their endorsement for United Hutori's future presidential candidate:

Tiege Varnham, HPP leader wrote:It's quite simple, United Hutori has recently proposed several bills that force, despite legal options available, policies onto local governments. In addition, their recent UH-20: Economic Reform Act proposes allowing perversion onto television and opening the flood gates on advertising — we can't stand for that. It's unfortunate, but it appears we are becoming alone again. Our party has decided to back its own candidates for now on and will not endorse any other candidate even in the event we receive a lower amount of votes. That said, we are still willing to sit on cabinets with United Hutori, along with any other party that includes our working-class candidates.

Varnham, who was a 32-year-old rancher at the time he succeeded the first leader of the HPP (Alfred Putnam), is now a 71-year-old man who has lead the party unchallenged for nearly four decades. When asked about when he has plans to retire, Varnham has responded with:

Varnham wrote:Proletarians don't retire, they die. Our party does not practice retirement. Once you can no longer contribute to your family, society, party or whatever group you have devoted yourself to, it is time to die. The working-class has nothing to gain from retirement besides feeling evermore useless. So, no, I have no plan to retire, I will not willingly become a parasite to my comrades. When my body can no longer manage to feed and care for the chickens then I have no right to serve as a representative for those that can.

Alexander Urquhart: "United Hutori Is Back"

Image

BEKENIAL, ADELIA -- Following a few lukewarm defeats, and the abandonment of the HPP's endorsement, many were skeptical that the new United Hutori, with Alexander Urquhart at the helm, would be able to be a viable political force. However, UH enjoyed a comfortable second place victory, with Party Chairman and former Prime Minister John William Henry losing by just a hair in the Presidential vote.

Urquhart hopes to capitalize on his victory by forming a coalition that will make him Prime Minister. "There is no doubt in my mind," Urquhart said, "that United Hutori is back. We are not just Sir Francis Reardon. We are a movement."

United Hutori stressed its paleoconservative proposals and its message of withdrawal from international affairs during the campaign.

"Hutori First is alive and well!" Fmr. Prime Minister Henry declared on his way in to join the new seating of the national senate.

United Hutori will put emphasis on economic and social issues in the upcoming seating, and hope to grow their party's support even further.

John William Henry Declares Victory

Image

BEKENIAL, ADELIA -- At 24 Orange Avenue, the Presidential manor, President John William Henry gave his first address as President of the Federal Republic of Hutori. "Let us not go down the road to socialism, nor to political partisanship. Rather, let us proceed down the road to freedom, to Hutorian greatness, and Hutori First."

President Henry has proposed his cabinet, consisting of the Hutorian Proletarian Party, the Progressive Conservatives, and his own United Hutori. John William Henry is the second United Hutori president, and the first to be elected under the banner of United Hutori. Previously, Henry was Prime Minister of Hutori under President (now Sir) Francis Reardon.

Henry's platform includes economic liberalism and increased home rule. "We have seen Home Rule decline under the previous President," Henry said in his address, "but no longer. The provinces have a right to decide for themselves on many issues."

Alexander Urquhart (UH-KE), the party's Leader, is the presumptive Prime Minister.

Joseph Murphy Joseph Murphy give his defeat speech.

Yesterday, the leader of the NPP, Joseph Murphy, has given his defeat speech following the presidential election of 4193.

Image
(Here Joseph Murphy giving his speech)

The speech was given in Carter city in front of over 5000 millitians of the National Progress Party. Here a extract of that speech:

''... Indeed, we have lost. We lost the presidency. By what? 1.26% of vote? That's no big deal. We're goin to win next time. Let's not forget what really matter. We had 40% of vote during the legislative election! That's our best score in history! We had literally 12% more vote than our opponent. This clearly show that the hutorian people still believe in us! They still believe in our cause and we will continu to fight for this very cause!''

Mr. Murphy then continu by talking about the the futur of his party:

''Now, during the next four years, our opponents will try to destroy everything we have built. We must not let them do it! We must continue our fight for Hutori! We can't let people like John William Henry or Alexander Urquhar destroy our beloved country!''

Joseph Murphy then finished his speech by announcing that he had the intention to completly reform the National Progress Party. No one know what he meant by that.

Woodbury Steps Down as Chairman

Following 13 years and 5 elections in the driver's seat Progressive Conservative Chairman Steven Woodbury, the blunt and often brash speaking PC Chief Executive, has announced he will be retiring from the Party.

It has been an honour to help rebuild and create the PC brand that has evolved from a minor caucus of 27 Senators to a key Coalition member during three of the last five Presidential Administrations. The Party and it's brand are secure and under new and younger leadership will continue its upward claim!

His successor was not a difficult person to find as Senator Matthew Tilley has already stated he had been selected by the Party's Executive Committee and confirmed by the Presidents of the Five Provincal Affiliate Party. The Senator's seat in Acton Centre Market will have to go through a by election once the province's Premier, Former Federal PC Leader, Madison Lewis is able to organize one.

DeCoste Doctrine Enabled

Following years of review and internal reforms long time Defence Minster Ryan DeCoste has announced the completion of his series of Defence reforms. At a meeting at the newly opened Joint Forces Base Arianna Woodbury in eastern Kenai he gave the following statement.

Image
It seems appropriate that this announcement be made at military base named after the woman who lead the Hutorian Armed Forces through the Great Terran War for almost two decades. Arianna Woodbury is without a doubt Hutori's greatest Defence Minister in history, having lead our Forces through 17 years of War, surviving five different Presidential Administrations and reforming the Hutorian Armed Forces from what it was prior to the war into one of the greatest and most adaptable fighting Forces Terra has ever seen. Here at this Base named after her, I am pleased to announce that our decade long Defence Review and Internal Review is complete and we have throughly reformed the Hutorian Armed Forces into a force capable of the stunning Operations she helped plan and oversee.

As part of DeCoste's extensive review process two new branches of the Armed Forces, Joint Operations Command and Hutorian Special Operations Command, we're created. Joint Operations Command, stationed out of Joint Forces Base Jameson in Adelia would be responsible for any multi service deployments and actions while HSOC, to be based within JFB Arianna Woodbury itself, would take sole leadership and Command of Hutori's elite special Operations units, including the mythic SPADs and SPECTREs.

===========

Changing of the Guard

General Isaac Grant, the Chief of Defence Staff during, Defence Minister DeCoste's long tenure, announced at the Ministry of Defence he would be stepping down immediately as CDS and retiring from the Army, being replaced in the Hutorian Armed Forces' top job by Admiral Karla MacFarlane, the long time Chief of Naval Staff.

Defence Minster DeCoste issued a short statement thanking General Grant for his decades of service in uniform and for his assistance in instituting the extensive reforms that the Hutorian Military just completed. Admiral MacFarlane, a career Naval Officer who served as CO of numerous Vessels within the Navy including the HNS-Leah Ross and her Battlegroup takes the reins as Hutori's military has begun looking outward again for the first time in a century.

General Grant meanwhile isn't quite leaving public service with an unnamed source already stated that Grant has accepted the position of Director of the Hutorian Security and Intelligence Service, at the direct rendition of newly minted Foreign Affairs Minister Nigel Brown.
