Prostests Ensue Over Immigration Reform and Forensic Science Restriction Bills

Image

Many Hutorians have been voicing their concerns about 2 new bills over social media in recent months and today a large rally was held outside the offices of the Ministries of Foreign and Internal Affairs in Bekenial. The bills in question are the Immigration Reform Act and the Forensic Sciences Restriction Act, both were put forward by the Consumers Party.

The first bill will change the government policy on illegal aliens to just ignoring them, and allow for anybody to claim nationality, meaning immigrants will no longer have to pass a test first. The Consumers claim the new policies will pressure other countries to treat their citizens better, increase our population and economy and reduce government spending, but the opposition Royalists, along with the protesters, just aren't buying it.

"I think this bill just goes to show the lack of experience in governing the Consumers have. They believe turning Hutori into a safe haven of sorts will magically make other countries treat their citizens better. I'm sorry to tell you, thats just not how it works. Secondly they believe growing our population will some how reduce government spending. By increasing our population, we will need to educate more children, provide healthcare to more people, and provide even more of every government service. How can we increase our government services while spending less money? Lastly, I don't think the Consumers understand that this is an issue of national security. By simply ignoring illegal immigrants, we open ourselves to criminals fleeing prosecution. That is very dangerous. Do we really want to be known to the world as a safe haven for criminals?"
~ Dylan Jourdain
Deputy Leader of the Official Opposition

The second bill in question, the Forensic Sciences Restriction Act seeks to end the collection of DNA samples and limit their usage as evidence in court trials. The Consumers claim that forensic evidence is often innacurate, yet another claim not supported by many.

"I'm honestly believe the Consumers Party caucus had just finished watching some wild conspiracy theory videos just before presenting this bill to the house. Seriously, how can they claim that one of the most accurate pieces of evidence that can link someone to a crime, is very inaccurate? This will lead to a lot of criminals being aquitted of crimes they did commit. We will oppose this bill as long as it is on the house floor."
~Raymond Houston
Shadow Minister of Justice

The Royalists and the protesters are calling on the Consumers to withdraw the bills before they are even put forward for a vote.

Hill Rumoured for Presidency Run

Postby Sovak111 » Sat Aug 11, 2018 4:29 pm

Rumors abound that Chancellor Jack Hill will soon announce his intention to stand for the Presidency of Hutori. Hill has built a reputation as the "moderator" of the current Socialist-Liberal government. When the USPH and Consumers Party introduced a 20 percent corporate tax, Hill managed to pass a bill exempting Hutori-based companies from the tax. New Liberal Party legislation has also increased private competition in healthcare, expanded private school options, ensure teacher pay rasies while also giving those in the teaching profession "essential" status under government law, ended caps for damages in medical malpractice cases, and made euthanasia illegal. Said Williams University political scientist John Falkland:

Hill has succeeded in producing compromise bill after compromise bill that has passed in Parliament. In fact, it isn't crazy to say that Hill has been able to achieve greater privatisation of services in a Socialist-led government than in
the Centrist governments the New Liberal Party are used to. That's truly amazing. It isn't surprising that he's considering a presidential run - he's been wildly successful as a Chancellor.

Hutori Alarmed by Vanukean 'Nuclear Sabre-Rattling'

Image
Recently appointed Hutorian Minister of Foreign Affairs Xander Woodbury

Although he has barely settled into his new job, recently appointed Hutorian Foreign Minister, Xander Woodbury, has already had a busy week, beginning with the recent declaration of Vanuku that nuclear capable bombers could be deployed at the MAA's new base in Dankuk. While Wiel did not state that the 12th Air Wing would be equipped with nuclear warheads, the very threat that they have the capability was met with condemnation from Bekenial with withdraw the 6th Bomber Wing from Kalopia years early for many of the same concerns.

At it's base this is nothing less then nuclear sabre-rattling. While the MAA is more then free to pursue relations with whatever nation's it deems fit, much like the Northern Council does now, to openly muse about deploying nuclear bombers this far north is rather alarming. We withdrew the nuclear bombers of the 6th Bomber Wing from the Northern Council Base in Kalopia specifically because Vanuku and Istalia were alarmed that the nuclear bombers could be turned against them. We have withdrew to disfuse the situtation which we thought was through, evidently we were wrong. To so flagrantly and openly muse about putting nuclear capable bombers this far north on the doorstep of Skalm and Bekenial will not do anything except rerise the tension that was being brought down between the Northern Council and Majatran Union of Nations. We sincerely hope that Wiel will not pursue these avenues and that we can reach an understanding in regards to nuclear questions such as that.

Woodbury has stated he will be reaching our to his Vanukean counterparts to recieve assurances in regards to the nuclear question. The situation is rumoured to be critical enough that Emperor William VII has involved himself, making a call to Queen Mrjmai to seek clarity and assurances on the matter. The friendship between the Hutorian and Vanukean monarchs are well known and it's widely believed Emperor William VII's ascension to the throne has helped stabilize the relationship between Wiel and Bekenial.

Woodbury message runs on the coattails has he begins a multi state visit, first with state visits to Kazullia and Dorvik, the other leading nations of the Northern Council, before he visits Luthori.

King to Announce New Modernization Program

Image
Minister of Defence Amanda King

Minister of Defence Amanda King has made an announcement from the Ministry of Defence that the Hutorian Armed Forces would be going through a new Modernization Phase, in an effort to bring the Hutorian Armed Forces up to snuff.

Our long term deployment in Temania proved many things to the Hutorian Armed Forces and taught us many hard earned lessons. While for the most part we were exceptionally well equipped and ready for any situation, we found specific weakness in others and this new modernization program, which will cover all three service branches. We found that our new organization for the deployment of ground forces works exceptionally well, but upgrades to deal with new threats and tactics must be addressed. There are small gaps in our operational capacity that we need to address for our Navy, and small modernization details that must be done to the Air Force. Overall I can offer nothing but praise for the men and women who served in Dovani for up to fifteen years, but we can rest on our laurels. It's time to push forward, and show the world that Hutori is truly back.

Hutori is coming off of a 15 year deployment in the conflict against the Dovani Union which saw almost one million service personnel deployed against the Dovani Union of the Hutorian Armed Forces at it's zenith, including almost seven hundred thousand ground forces personnel. This massive deployment of forces was the single largest deployment of force against the Dovani Union for it's entirety, and the mere threat of Hutorian action against Tropica is believed to be what forced Emperor Abaan to cede it as an imperial territory and recognize it as a full member of the Dovani Union. Hutori was the single largest contributor of the Dovani conflict and in the south and most defence analysts recognize that it was through Hutorian efforts on Temania that allowed the rest of the Northern Council to focus their efforts in their entirety in the north which ultimately forced the peace.

King's appointment as Defence Minister, rather then reappointed at Foreign Affairs, shows Chancellor's Hill recognition of her abilities, and more importantly, the importance of the Defence file during the transition and modernization period. King has already stated that she is looking at options in regards to Aloria for possible military involvement, though wouldn't comment further on that file at this time.

Jourdain Issues Statement Regarding The Murder of Chancellor Jack Hill

Image
"We will find you. You will be brought to justice."

Deputy Leader of the Royalist Party, and Minister or Finance, Dylan Jourdain issued a statement on national television shortly after the news broke of Chancellor Jack Hill's murder in a terror attack on his way to visit an elementary school. Jourdain is the first politician to speak to the public since the horrific events that transpired this afternoon.

"Today is a dark day in the history of our nation. My dear friend, your Chancellor, Jack Hill was murdered in a terror attack carried out by the anarcho-socialist terror organization known as Article 17.

Jack was an extraordinary parliamentarian, always willing to reach out across the aisle and work with other parties to form strong legislation. His guidance in the last government, prevented socialist policies that would greatly hurt our nation from being impemented.

I have made a lot of friends in the house over my 30 years, but none were as close to me as Jack. That is why, I have made it my personal mission to track down and bring those responsible for this tragedy to justice. If those people are watching, just know, we will find you. You will be brought to justice. You will not get away with this disgusting act of terrorism."

HNLP Returns to Elections

Postby Angelo36 » Fri Aug 17, 2018 1:07 am

HNLP Returns to Elections

After nearly 70 years since the death of Founder Christopher Tarrow the HNLP was officially declared under his great grandson Martin Tarrow. Tarrow's death in 4380 after the elections led the Party with severe political and financial issues that caused MPs to join other parties soon after. Despite members such as Teddy Wright and Florence Carla running under the all but dead Party Name in the elections after the lack of funding and publicity meant the Party was seen as no more. Martin Tarrow famously known for expanding the Family real estate in North Hutori into a sprawling development with great City Planning has poured millions into re-establishing the Party hoping to not only try and represent more Government urban expansion but also restore his Great Grandfather's Legacy and hopes. Although more radical left and right Parties that existed 70 years ago have also fallen Tarrow hopes to ensure his vision of a stable Hutori comes to light. At the annual party conference in November he hopes to rename and rebrand the Party to create a new image for it.

Annual Party Conference 4440

Postby Angelo36 » Sat Aug 18, 2018 1:44 am

Annual Party Conference 4440

Martin Tarrow led the first Party Conference in 80 years in a manner similiar to that of his predecessor's charisma.

Image

Detailing the Party's aims under Neo-Classical Liberalism he announced that the Party would also change itself. Although still a Hutori Party that is Neo-Classical Liberal the Party is to be renamed to the Forward Liberal Party to help the Party's image. Tarrow then moved onto a far more serious note after addressing Party Policy as the Topic changed to Article 17 and the assassination of Jack Hill. Tarrow stressed Government reports that Article 17's terrorist groups appeared from the forests of Southern Rocatto. Being a Candidate for his home area in Rocatto itself Tarrow declared that no form of terrorism was acceptable in a working Democracy before moving on to declare a Policy of war towards Article 17. Tarrow also motioned that the source of the weapons used by Article 17 was an area of deep controversy that needed to be looked into and that regardless of the motivations of Article 17 they would now be no negotiation from a Foward Liberal Government.

New Liberals Decline to Run Presidential Candidate

Postby Sovak111 » Mon Aug 20, 2018 12:13 pm

The New Liberal Party today announced that it had no plans to run a candidate in the Presidential Election. "We're still reeling from the death of our colleague, Chancellor Jack Hill," said interim party leader Sophia Morris. "Jack was going to be our nominee. When he died, we realized we had no mechanism to nominate another person mid-election. Therefore, we urge those who would vote New Liberal to vote for another party that best fits their interests. I personally recommend Royalist Candidate Dylan Jourdain. We will still contest Parliamentary elections and hope to be in cabinet - and I will hope to continue Jack Hill's work as Chancellor next term." Morris also announced that the party would look for coalition partners that would "stop at nothing" to hunt down and eliminate the terrorist group, Article 17.

Image
Sophia Morris is the Interim Party Leader for the New Liberals and Vice Chancellor of Hutori, she has managed most of the functions of Chancellor since Hill's untimely murder.

It should come as no surprise to many in the political elite that Morris has endorsed Jourdain's presidency ambitions. It was a well-known fact that he and Hill were good friends. The two came up in politics together and had a history of bi-partisan work on legislation. Hill once considered running for President with the expressed campaign platform that Jourdain, and not another New Liberal, would be his pick for Chancellor. Their relationship was strained when Hill and the New Liberals joined a cabinet coalition with the Consumers Party and the Ultrackian Socialist Party. Many in the Royalist coalition argued that Hill and the New Liberals had taken a "left turn" from their traditionally Centrist values. Jourdain and Hill worked together, however, to exempt most Hutori businesses from a 20 percent increase in the corporate tax rate proposed and passed by the USPH-NLP-Consumers coalition - winning both men praise from the opposition and the disdain of those in Government.

Forward Liberal Party perform well in Roccato

Postby Angelo36 » Tue Aug 21, 2018 10:12 pm

Forward Liberal Party perform well in Roccato

The recent Election results were heavily divided in the multiple left wing parties. However despite being the newest Party the Forward Liberal Party performed far better than analysts initially predicted. With 18% of the vote in the Party's home region of Roccato its clear that Martin Tarrow's speech about tracking down Article 17 terrorist encampments in the Region alongside the city development of Cities on Roccato's northern coast had bolstered local support. The Party struggled in Adelia and Lagard Regions however. Due to a failure to form a Conservative Cabinet that would see the Forward Liberal Party without any power a late Cabinet proposal saw the Party gain 4 important seats most importantly the seat of Justice Minister. Luke Wayne is expected to lead Security Services in deciding how to take down Article 17 and what the Hutori Justice System must become to deal with such a threat.

Liberal Nationals Leadership Woes

Rumblings regarding the Liberal National Party's recent swing away from hardline right wing politics has been met with internal dispute. The conservative Nationals faction has long been unhappy with the current leader of the Liberal National Party, Paul Myer , for his moderate stance toward a wide range of social issues, and his pro environmental policies. However Mr Myer is not alone in his bid to promote the LNP as a centre/centre right party. Of the 64 seats the party holds, 35 are formally registered within the Liberal faction, compared to 29 within the National faction. There has been however, increasing reports that Mr Myer's push for a monarchy has caused divisions within the party, with rumours of a leadership spill imminent.

Image
Member for Sunshine, Betty Cox

In a conference with the media, the conservative Betty Cox (Member for Sunshine) hit out at Mr Myer stating
... he has dragged this party to the socialist left, I for one no longer support the leadership of Mr Myer. I will be resigning as the Industry & Trade Spokesperson. I call on the Member for Roselands to resign from the leadership, and allow a true conservative to prevail once again. Without doing so, will cause electoral disaster for the Liberal Nationals

Mr Myer has been reached for comment however has not been available.
