Arianna Woodbury Retires to Private Life

Image
Arianna Woodbury during the Terran War

Royalist Party Founder and former Leader Arianna Woodbury has announced her retirement from public life having celebrated her 67th Birthday this year. The Founder of the modern Royalist Party of Hutori served as Senator for Groomsbridge, an incredibly wealthy suburb west of Acton, and the site of her family's ancestral estate, for 30 years as Head of the Royalist Party. During her long and illustrious career she served a short term as Foreign Affairs Minister before being strapped with the Defence portfolio, which she held through four Presidential Administrations and the entirety of the Great Terran War; a tenure that lasted 17 years, longer then any other states person in history in almost any position, save for President.

Following her retirement from the Senate in 4007 she was tapped to work for and later lead the Gath Defence Collective, an organization she both worked for and lead for the past 15 years, five of them as it's Executive Director.

Woodbury leaves behind a long legacy for Hutorian Royalism, with the Royalist Party she helped build now the second largest and most powerful Party in the National Senate and her successor as leader James Murphy the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic while her son, Anthony Woodbury is the current Party President and Chairman of the Monarchist Movement of Hutori. She hasn't announced whether she would ever re-enter politics in any capacity though it has been indicated numerous Dorvische and Luthorian Defence firms have been interested in hiring her on a consulting basis.

Joint Hutorian Dorvische Naval Exercises Commerce

The Hutorian and Dorvische militaries kicked off a series of joint military exercises this week with Exercise NORTH TIDE, a Naval exercise taking place south of Adelia and west of Telamon's Migadon Island, also the home of the Trigunian Mad Dog Ocean Fleet. The Hutorian First Fleet and Dorvische Südseeflotte (South Ocean Fleet) spearheaded the first of a series of planned exercises planned the coming weeks between the two allies.

The HNS-Leah Ross lead the Hutorian Strike Group against the Dorvische Fleet lead by the DNS-Kordusia. The exercise was to focus on Naval training and fire drills and to prepare for the interdiction of hostile Naval Forces during times of war. Analysts of the exercises believe the NORTH TIDE served a two fold purpose: one to better acquaint the Dorvische and Hutorian Navies together and to show the Trigunian Mad Dog Ocean Fleet, whuch doubtlessly was watching from Telamon, that their control of the North waves can be challenged.

A spokesperson for Defence Minister Lindsay Drake stated "the first exercises were a roaring success and we are glad to finally get able to work together with our friends with Dorvik and do look forward to doing so in the weeks to come." With the success of North Tide elements of the Dorvische Army and Air Force are expected to arrive in Hutori in a few coming weeks for exercises with the Hutorian counterparts.

Juliet Williams Wins 4024 Presidential Election

Juliet Williams, the founder and chairperson of the relatively new Democratic Party of Hutori has clinched the election for President of the Federal Republic -- outperforming her nearest competitor by over twenty million votes. This comes after two narrow defeats in prior races, one in 4018 where she lost by just 2% of votes in the second round to John Anderson, and again in 4021 to then President Anderson. Many speculate that, had the Democratic Party reached a coalition agreement with the Royalist Party -- whose endorsement reportedly carried Anderson to victory -- sooner, she would have won the election in 4021. However, despite a small loss in seats to accommodate for the resurgence of a reformed Federalist Party, this is seen by most in the DPH as a great victory for their party.

"This is only the beginning," Ms. Williams said in her victory speech. "We have a lot of work to do, moving forward. As a developed and wealthy country, we should be a paragon for all of Terra. Now, we've made a lot of progress in the past few years, but people are still homeless, still starving, still can not afford to make ends meet. And when we set out at the start of this campaign, this movement, we promised to help everyone. So let's get started."

Among her contenders were Michael Bryne of the Centrist Liberals and Carlos Smith of the Free Socialist Coalition, who took roughly 20% of the vote each. With a crucial endorsement by the Federalist Party, and given the historical friendship between the Federalists and the National Democratic Party, the DPH's predecessor, a DPH/FP coalition seems inevitable. However, there has been talk from party insiders that the Progressive Conservative Party of Hutori, the rebranded Royalist Party, may have a spot in that coalition given the relatively new -- yet extremely productive -- alliance between them and the DPH. If this prediction comes true, we would see a coalition comprised of the three largest parties in the Senate, with a combined 80% of the 600 seats.

Priest-King and Queen consort enter Itokaki Castle in the dress of the yukatchu class

After months of speculation, His Imperial Majesty Divine Emperor Wu Wen of Indrala traveled to the Sekowan capital of Itokaki last month, along other members of the Imperial Clan of Wu, to attend the enthronement ceremony of Kaku Chujitsuna as Priest-King of Sekowo. It turns out, the Divine Emperor would not merely attend, but actually officiate the ceremony. While the ceremony took place in the privacy of Itokaki Castle, it is said His Majesty Priest-King Kaku granted the Sekowan Crown, Sword of Gold, and Tear of the Moon (gem) by the Divine Empeor. Additionally, His Majesty was presented with an Indralan seal of authority, officially recognizing Kaku Chujitsuna as the only legitimate monarch of Sekowo. Overall, the ceremony was fairly short, with the new Royal Family quickly resuming the ceremonial and symbolic duties of greeting the people.

Massive Voter Participation Poll Conducted
The poll was generated by Hutori Analytics, a non-partisan data collection organization, and found that voters in Adelia were the most engaged in the 4024 legislative election.

The independent organization Hutori Analytics has released data from an extensive series of voter participation polls following the 4024 elections, which looked at the percent of eligible voters affiliated with each major political party who actually voted. The student concluded that voters in the province of Adelia were the most engaged in the last election, at 75% of eligible voters turning out at the polls. Meanwhile, the Independent Party of Hutori -- the smallest party in Senate with just one seat, and also one of the newest parties in the country -- had a participation rate of 100%, as in order to register with the party, one had to vote in an election, and this was the first election in which the party fielded candidates for Senate. Taking this fact into account, the Federalist Party was actually the most engaged party from which data could be obtained, at a satisfying 79.9% (13% higher than the national average). The full polling results can be found below.

Voter Engagement By Province (% of Eligible Voters Who Voted in 4024):
1. Adelia - 75%
2. Lagard - 73.4%
3. Roccato - 71.4%
4. Kenai - 64.5%
5. Falristan - 63.9%

Voter Engagement By Party (% of Eligible Registered Voters Who Voted in 4024):
1. Independent Party of Hutori - 100%
2. Federalist Party - 75%
3. Royalist Party of Hutori (Progressive Conservative Party of Hutori) - 76.6%
4. Democratic Party of Hutori - 64.7%
5. Free Socialist Coalition - 57.2%
6. Centrist Liberals - 54%

King William V Passes Away

In a sad day Steuart House revealed that the current Royal Pretender King William V has passed away in his sleep last night at the age of 74. King William was the eldest Son of King Michael I and had been a Hutorian Army General and Incumbent Chief of the Defence Staff at his passing. His younger brother Admiral Jayden Steuart, the new Chief of Defence Staff has commented. "General Steuart was one of the finest Officers ever to wear the uniform. His passing will be greatly felt by all those who ever served under him." Progressive Conservative Leader Piers Navarrie has already petitioned President Lee Castor to grant General Steuart a state funeral with full military Honours, "in recognition of the great accomplishments of this man."

Despite being born a Steuart Noah followed in the steps of his grandfather King William IV and joined the military at, graduating from Bekenial Military College at 18 as Second Lieutenant. He spent a lifetime in the Hutorian military, including a long tour with the 2nd Armoured Division in Brakav during the Great War where he accelerated through the rank, achieving Colonel by 41, Brigadier General by 46 and was a full General by 53, one of the youngest to ever attain the rank. He was appointed a Chief of Defence Staff at 57, making his 17 year tenure in the position as Hutori's second longest, beaten only by the son of his Great great great Uncle Grand Duke Thomas, Admiral Erik Steuart, who served for 18 years. General Steuart will go down in history as the longest serving member of the Hutorian Armed Forces, having work the uniform for 58 years, beating the length of service of Lieutenant General Thomas Steuart by four years.

The Royal Claimant to the Gold Lion Crown now passes to General Steuart's only Daughter and Heir, Enpress Consort Sarah, better known as Princess Taylor before she assumed her Regal Name, the wife of Emperor Rudolph I of Luthori. Empress-Consort Sarah, who currently resides in Fort William is said to be flying back with the Luthori Royal Family for the funeral where's it's thought she'll be stopping by Steuart House to be enthroned as the next Royal Claimant of the Throne of Hutori.

PROTEST NATIONWIDE OVER SELECTIVE SERVICE ACT
January 4033

Nearly 12,000,000+ people gathered collectively across all 5 Provinces of Hutori today after it become evident that the Liberal effort to repeal the Selective Service Act would fail as Senators from the Democratic Party showed support for the Selective Service Act. President Lee Castor, who public made comments stating his displeasure with the Selective Service Act, spoke to a crowd briefly in Axminister, Adelia. President Castor applauded the crowd and implored them to keep fighting the issue. Brody Ross, the man responsible for organizing the peaceful protest outside of the National Senate in Bekenial, lead the chants calling for the end of the Selective Service Act. Mr. Ross released a statement to reporters at the start of the protest to clarify the motivations of the crowd.

"We've gathered here today to let our government know that we don't support the Selective Service Act.... There is not just a few of us out here today, we came here about twelve million strong and there are more out there that are disgusted by the government; namely the Federalist, the Democrats, and the PCP, who seem to believe that our military one of few issues that matter. What about the people? What about the nearly twenty-four million people that have signed our petition to end the Selective Service Act? Who represented them when the Selective Service Act was passed? Certainly not the Federalist, who authored the Selective Service Act, or the PCP or the Democrats for that matter. Bottom-line no party over the past ten years has had the stones to stand up to our military and say no you cannot just take advantage of Hutorians and use them as disposable pawns... Listen I understand the Federalist and the PCP's counter-argument but there is a line and they both have crossed it with the Selective Service Act. We stand here today, twelve million strong and counting to tell all 600 Senators inside that we do not support the Selective Service, no amendment to the Selective Service Act is acceptable... the only thing that is acceptable at this point is to abolish the Selective Service."
- Brody Ross.

By the end of the day crowd numbers were reported to be pushing nearly 15 million people collectively across Hutori protesting in nearly every major city of the Federal Republic. Protestors have said they will not stop until the Selective Service Act is repealed.

OOC: so to confirm... 15% of the population of the ENTIRE nation was in attendance to this protest? How would they even fit in the city outside of the Senate? Even if a quarter of Adelia's population lived in Bekenial that's still a population of 5 million. That means 3 times the population of the city was camped outside of the Senate Building.

Decima Technologies to Hold Public Offering?

The technology industry has been abuzz with the rumor that Decima Technologies the provider of one of Terra's most popular search engines is about to make a public offering. This comes from a source that is reportedly very close to Decima Technologies and was initially reported to the Hutorian Associated Press. However, this would be an uncharacteristically open move for the traditionally tight lipped and secretive Decima. Traditionally the company has been controlled by the Jeffery and Singh families with the slight input from the Carmichael Financial Group. According to company spokespersons this is to keep corporate espionage to a minimum and corporate greed from becoming the main focus. According to the company Decima's main purpose is to innovate, inspire and create and profit is merely a secondary goal. Even if profit is only a secondary goal some economists speculate that if a public offering is made that Decima could expect to see their shares sell for the highest in recorded history. However, others are much less hopeful although, they still agree that if a public offering is made that the company's shares would get a substantial price.

Liberal Democrats Nominate Jonathan Pilkington For President

Image

In a bizarre campaign video, Liberal Democratic Party founder Jonathan Pilkington announced his intention to run for President of Hutori. In the video, Pilkington waves around a noose, declaring his intention to "hang the bastards at the Senate". Mr. Pilkington indicated his platform was to "legalize freedom" and to "Piss off politics". The more reasonable half of the Liberal Democrats' campaign team, the party leader Stewart Taft, has said he will gladly cast his ballot in favor of Pilkington. "He's mad, and he can identify the problems. Everyone can do that," Taft told The Bekenial Dispatch, "but Pilkington actually has substance to back up his anger. We're going to make Hutori free again."

Stewart Taft has also been campaigning across the country, appearing on several TV news and talk shows. Taft has stated that he hopes Pilkington's antics will occupy the news cycle, keeping the lens of the news media focused on the Liberal Democrats.
