On 14 July 4775, Messalina Sollecito had passed away peacefully in her sleep. A brief history through her life: Messalina Lucrezia Sollecito was born in Palerno, Silicia to Rodrigo Sollecito, a lawyer and Lucrezia Gelardi, a local teacher. She attended public schools until she applied to a University outside the city of Siracosa to study political science and law. She became interested in politics in her early youth, and joined the National Popular Student League and the Young Populists in the year 4700. Sollecito quickly rose through the ranks of the Populists, and in two years time she was made the candidate for governor of the region of Silicia, a move which was seen as a way to try to sway young voters in the region, a usually low voter base in that particular region. However, she did not gain the results the Populist leadership had expected, and the highest number of regional seats she was ever able to gain in the region was 14 out of 136. Despite her low numbers in the regional election, she was still immensely popular within the party and was early on able to gain the favor of Cademo (Party leader) Augusto Amadeo.
Augusto Amadeo resigned as the leader of the Populists in favor of Sollecito, who graciously accepted the offer in 4734. Her first actions were to rebrand the party, such as abolishing the position of Cademo (Leader of the Movement), changing logo and creating a slogan. The slogan, coined by her, was "All Classes Unite!", this message was to critically oppose the common leftist message of "All Workers Unite!" by showing that the Populists cares about all classes not only one. She led the party with her new slogan through the 4735 election were she gathered the most votes and seats the Populists had ever gotten, ending up as the second largest party. With the National Alliance for the Empire and the Order, Faith and Family, she was able to form a Populist led government with her as Prime Minister Imperial Secretary of State. During her first tenure, hostility and tension arose between her government and the opposition, she calmed the situation down by apologizing for the insulting behavior of Populist members in the Assembly against the Left Bloc. together with voting in favor of a opposition motioned bill which changed the law making it so that all adults not supported by another person would be guaranteed a reasonable, though not high, standard of living by the government. There was also a growing tension between the Order, Faith and Family and the Populists after the latter had abstained on a government bill issued by the former, without explaining why. Some speculations are that Sollecito didn't want to vote against a government partner, but at the same time didn't want to vote in favor because of certain articles. Sollecito and OFF leader Martello sat down to discuss and plan a redrawn bill of the one OFF originally proposed. In the middle of her first term, Sollecito contacted the National Alliance to make a proposition of forming an electoral bloc to combat the rising republican and devolutionary sentiments as well as to promote more government efficiency. This bloc would be centered around Sollecito who would unite the interested parties and lead them in future governments to make sure that the goal of the Bloc did not waver. She officially proclaimed the formation of the Sollecito Bloc with the Populists and the National Alliance in it in mid January 4740, one month before the formation of her second cabinet.

In the beginning of her second term as Prime Minister, Sollecito and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Giacinto Ludovici proposed to the National Assembly to ratify the Kanjor Official Diplomatic Treaty. Sollecito also successfully negotiated with Victor Martello, the leader of Order, Faith and Family on the redrawn bill of the Economy Liberation Act known as the Economy Reform Plan. Sollecito also started negotiations with the Republic of Jakania to redraft an old treaty with the Jakanian government wanting to remove the Istalian military presence from Jakania. The redrafted treaty was approved and ratified by the National Assembly in May 4744.

Sollecito's Cabinet III replaced her second one in September 4744, as a minority government with only the Populists and the National Alliance in it. The largest party in the National Assembly, Order, Faith and Family, instead of heading their own government gave support to a populist lead one after an agreement was made between the OFF and the Sollecito Bloc were the latter would support the former's Religious Reform Program. With the election of February 4747, the final blow to the Populists came, and they reached just below five million votes and with only 62 seats, losing nine seats, they placed the 7th largest party and the smallest of the ones in the National Assembly. This has been called by the media as the Fall of Messalina Sollecito, despite these low numbers and the small position, Sollecito remained positive over that the next government hopefully would learn to keep efficiency like Sollecito's three governments. She also stated that if or when the day came where she would be in the post-premiership, she would then campaign as one of the first Senators of the perhaps soon to come Imperial Senate. Her final major act as Prime Minister was to successfully pass the Act for the Reestablishment of the Upper House; the Senate of the Istalian Empire, despite the Left Bloc in the last second voting against the proposal as they deemed it as simple tool to protect the imperial institutions rather than the democracy, however their attempt was futile and it passed in October 4747. The first elections of the Senate were to held during the 4751 National Assembly elections. Sollecito was one of the first Senators to be elected into the institution in 4749. The same year it was believed that Sollecito would form her fourth government, however, this responsibility was given to Mattia Negri, Sollecito instead assumed the positions of Minister of Interior and concurrently the Deputy Prime Minister. She served as Minister of the Interior until 4757 and became the Leader of the Opposition that year until 4768, when she resumed her position as Minister of Interior which she have held until now. Messalina Sollecito served as Prime Minister Imperial Secretary of State for 12 years and 7 months, holding the position as the fourth longest serving Prime Minister during the Imperial Era.

The Populists chooses new leader

With the passing of the Head of Party Messalina Sollecito, the Populist High Council decided to wait after the funeral (which was held on the 22 July 4775) until they decided on a successor. And the successor became a relatively unknown young man who had served as Underminister of Immigration and Integration, his name being Costante Buonocore. Buonocore has worked closely with Sollecito during the entire tenure of the current Cabinet. The reason for the Populists choosing Buonocore is because first of his young age, second to honor Sollecito by choosing one of her closest confidants and third because of his experience, the last one holds up to Sollecito's ideology of government efficiency. He also turned down Sollecito's position as Head of Party to honor her as the only one, he created the position of Chairman.

During Buonocore's acceptance speech he said this:

Thank you all so much for choosing me as your prime representative! I simply want to express my gratitude for all years I have gotten to know Messalina Sollecito. She has been a true mentor and friend to me and I wish to uphold her legacy of government efficiency and true equality between all classes of our society. She will be remembered as one of the greatest Prime Ministers of the Istalian Empire, and in my own personal opinion, I consider her one of the greatest Prime Ministers in the history of Istalia. [Brief pause] I would like to continue by hoping that the cooperation between us and the National Alliance for the Empire and of course between our partnership with Order, Faith and Family can continue. New Left Bloc strategy pays off

It seems that the Left Bloc strategy established by Aristarco Azzara to "radicalize the party" has begun to bear fruit after these elections, in which the party has doubled its number of supporters, going from 5 to 10 million votes, and has won the Silician region, where Azzara's son Enrico Azzara will rule during the next legislature.

Although the right continues to add a majority in the Assembly - the current government formed by OFF, ANI and the Populists have been in office since the last elections, in which they lost the majority of the House but no alternative majority was formed -, everything will depend on what the National Liberal Party, who has become the "kingmaker" of these elections, decides. However, its record of voting in the Assembly makes it clear that it is much closer to the conservative parties than to the progressive parties, so the intention to form a left-wing government seems very unlikely.

However, for the Left Bloc these elections have meant a turnaround in the electoral trend that they had been accumulating for several elections, losing more and more support. Now, they have returned to obtain about 20% of the votes and position themselves as the third political force in the Assembly, and awaiting the formation of a government, presumably the leaders of the opposition. The hardest hit, on the contrary, has been taken by the Sollecito Bloc, which has seen its support, despite being a coalition, have plummeted towards almost obtaining only 10% of the votes.

Furthermore, OFF has lost most regional governments, winning only two but losing the other three. The Socialists maintain the government of Mezzodiurno, a region until recently impregnable for the left, while the PLN wins the Sarregnan government.

For its part, the Left Bloc celebrates the recovery of the Silician government, its traditional stronghold, although it has remained just 5% of obtaining an absolute majority. The new candidate, chosen after the resignation of Annamaria Licari to lead a new candidacy after the fiasco of the last elections, is not an unknown name: the new governor of the region will be Enrico Azzara, from the Azzara clan and therefore, son and grandson of Aristarco Azzara, first President of the Senate, and of the former governor of Trivendito Egeo Azzara. Mr. Azzara has managed to trace an electoral result of just 5% in the previous elections to almost obtain an absolute majority, and many political analysts attribute this to his charisma and appeal to the youth of the region, who have been key to his victory.

Enrico Azzara, whom some media in the yellow press have linked with secret romances with a member of the imperial family of Istalia, continues in this way with the political saga of the Azzara and many do not rule out seeing him as a future candidate for the Presidency of one of the two Chambers or the Executive. For now Mr. Azzara, who has organized his electoral platform around green and republican ideas, has affirmed that his mind is set on the government of the region, and after promising his office - avoiding making any mention of keeping loyalty to the imperial family - has said that in relation to the future of the national government, he prefers "a party faithful to its strongest ideals in the opposition than a party that abandons its ideals to enter to govern".

ROMULA - After the announcement of the construction of three new units of SSBN Folgore-class the Minister of Defence Marciano Luchini announced today it will be adopted a new operative doctrine for the country.

Finally, the Chief of Defense Staff announced that two air-naval squadrons, each formed by an aircraft carrier escorted by several cruisers and frigates, will regularly fulfill circumnavigation cruises every year with similar goals of the tactic squadrons but also for duties of representation and diplomatic purposes.

Alarianism gains strength
The movement that calls for greater autonomy for the island of Alaria finds momentum after a meeting of the governors of both regions

At the same time that new agreements are known between the government of Istalia and other nations of Terra, the governors of the regions that make up the island of Artania, Aristarco Azzara of Silicia (Left Bloc) and the governor of Sarregna (National Liberal Party), have agreed to give impetus to the movement known as "Alarianism", a broad social movement that dates back to the last century and whose demands range from asking for the total independence of the island of Alaria from the rest of the territory of Istalia to simply asking for a higher level of competences for the island.

After the leaders of both regions of the island have met, although they do not agree on how to carry it out, they have agreed that it is necessary to improve the conditions of the island territory with respect to the peninsula.

Azzara, belonging to the Silician Bloc and coming from the most independentist sector of the party, has also defended the need that, if the historical demands of the island territory are not accepted, to call a self-determination referendum on the future of Alaria. The governor also considers that far from acting as a "unifier", interceding for the island to improve its conditions, the Emperor has long turned a deaf ear to their requests, preferring to ignore the problem and not disturb the central government. For this reason, he believes that in a future independent Alaria, the best political system is a republic "in which all citizens are equal" and to fight for the rights of all.

Although the political positions of the Left Bloc branches in Silicia and Sarregna are not shared by the rest of the political parties, some of them do agree with some of the Alarianist demands. This is the case of the National Liberal Party, which currently governs with an absolute majority in Sarregna, and that despite being against independence, is in favor of greater federalization and transfer of powers to the island, since it shares with the Governor of Silicia the thought that, historically, the Peninsula has taken advantage of Alaria's resources and work to enrich itself at their expense.

In the case of the National Alliance for the Empire, although its centralist and monarchical position is well known, some senior leaders have agreed to cede powers to the island, for example by establishing their own island government and its own autonomous parliament. On the contrary, their coalition partners, the Populists, have been totally opposed to any kind of federalism in Istalia. However, the island governments remind them of their project to improve the countryside carried out on the Peninsula, putting it as one more example of "Sarrentinocentrism" to the detriment of the island.

Some other inhabitants of the island, however, defend Alarianism as a true expression of veritable "istalianism", as they consider the island inhabitants to be the descendants of the ancient inhabitants of the territory, while the peninsular inhabitants came later. They used this argument to accuse immigrants, especially Solentians, of carrying out "an invasion" of their land, and reject them to be accepted anymore in the island. However, this position is widely rejected by the Left Bloc.

Currently, the two parties that are mostly in favor of this federalism, the Left Bloc and the National Liberal Party, enjoy a very large majority in the parliaments of the two regions of the island, and if they agree, they could carry out numerous legislative proposals.

At the moment the central government has not said anything related to the issue.

ROMULA - After the news about the rising of the "Alarianism" on the Island, from Viale delle Vittorie, headquarters of the National Alliance, came this moorning further news about the new National Secretary Alex De Martino, who succeeded to Laura Montefalchi after the disappointed last electoral results.

Talking about this feeling, De Martino made finally first official statement about the rebranding of the party about which there were rumors for months:

I feel we need to change our party to better responds to the demands of our voters and we must assume a clear and solide position within the Istalian political landscape.

For to much year this party made too much compromises and the country itself was forced to accept compromises, keeping an unstable balance between liberalism and conservatism.

Now we have to recognize that Istalia is asking new freedom, greater freedom, the greatest freedom. The citizens ask them this! They need this, the country need this and we shall be ready to respond to these demands.

For this reason the National Alliance for the Empire since today will be know as "The Alliance" and I can assure you and to the country that this party is ready to defend and to promote the freedom of the country and of its citizens. Freedom from state intrusion, freedom from abuse, freedom for their lives. Liberty! Liberty shall be The Word, our beacon!

It seems thus that The Alliance is ready to propose a more libertarian stance to the voters, probably aimed too to attract the electors which in recent years expressed support for very libertarian political ideals.

Alex De Martino, furthermore, formalized what became clear at the beginning of this year: the National Alliance not only has been rebranded but the new leadership decided to definitively leave the Sollecito Bloc, thanking the Populist colleaugues for the years of cooperation but underlining that The Alliance is taking now a path diverging from the one of the Populists.

De Martino was then questioned about the rising of "Alarianism" in the island, led by the silician Governor Aristarco Azzara:

Clearly we cannot ignore these requests and claims coming from Alaria and it is right to honestly handle with, but it is clear as well that any claim about indipendence cannot taken seriously.

Furthermore, most important, I really hope that this new movement will be not used and exploited to uphold specific and divisive matters or worse, exploited by national political parties for thier own interests.

The Alliance is ready to talk, to dialogue and debate to find the best path to handle this situation, within the adeguate institutional places, with trasparence and cooperative stance.

Finally, the press asked him about the rising on the public life and social media of racist stances against several immigrant groups, but especially focused against the Solentians, which influenced also some of the most radical fringes of the Alarianism.

These are worrying news and obviously we cannot but condemn such statements, opposing any form of discrimination.

I want assure to those who found a safe port in Istalia and to their descendants that this country is still the one which welcomed them almost a century ago and that this party will continue to strenously support a respectous and inclusive stance towards them, because they were recognize as istalian citizens, their children were born as istalian citizens, because they are Istalian citizens and they deserve respect and protection from any discrimination.

The Left Bloc has obtained a new electoral boost to its radical turn tonight, as demonstrated by the electoral results that have already been announced. After the count, the Left Bloc reaches the second position with 203 seats and almost 30% of the votes. Not only that, but also, the blocists have taken over the government of the Mezzodiurno region and the mayor of the capital, Romula, as well as a revalidation, by an absolute majority, of the Silician government by Enrico Azzara.

Although Order, Faith and Family has once again become the most voted force in the National Assembly, its majority in the Senate has been diminished after these elections, in which only a single seat has separated the victory from OFF ( 33 seats) on the Left Bloc (32 seats), thus consolidating the tendency towards radicalization of the Istalian society in the last decades.

Another of the great news has been the electoral result on the island of Alaria. In Silicia, the Silician Bloc, the branch of the Left Bloc in the region, has obtained from the hands of its current Governor Enrico Azzara the absolute majority, with 71 of the 137 seats at stake, which added to those obtained by the National Liberal Party, the other major party supporting Alarianism, they win a total of 119 out of 137 seats. Likewise, in the southern region of Alaria, in Sarregna, the roles are similar but reversed: in this case, the National Liberal Party is the one that owns the government with 83 seats, in addition to the 39 seats of the Sarregnan Bloc that total 122 of seats in the region. With these results, Alarianism has been largely favored in the elections, with little parliamentary opposition in either of the two regions that make up the island. We will have to wait now to see what are the actions that their governors take with the central government once they have received the support of the voters in these elections.

Romulanism as described by Giusto Zani, as a new start for the national unity of the people of Istalia, the idea is to make centralization feel that the people are of more importance to the stability of the nation. The idea is to remove any regional authority and have all power lie within the capital of Romula. In his concept, the state would be governed by a Consul appointed by the National Assembly. Zani also stated that to safeguard the unity of the nation, the establishment of a upper house was necessary, something he called Senate. Which was the main inspiration for Messalina Sollecito when she proposed and established the Senate of the Empire. Zani proposed that either the Romulan nation was to be the Romulan Republic, or it was to be the Romulan Empire, the latter in his mind needed the Emperor to have more executive authority to better safeguard any attempt of federalization.

Whether Buonocore intends on riving the never so big Romulanism to combat the rising Alarianism is a question of for speculations, but his desires for the present is clear. So yes, we are open for cooperation with them.
