The Left Bloc and the National Liberal Party agree on a government agreement that would end almost 15 years of far-right rule
Co-general secretary and Prime Minister to-be Alessia Soldato speaking with a senior member of the NAtional Liberal Party
This morning, at an unexpected press conference, the Left Bloc spokesman announced that his party and the National Liberal Party had reached a government agreement. The news has caught much of the nation by surprise, expecting the continuation of the current conservative government led by the far-right Order, Faith and Family and current Prime Minister Giovanni Carnavi. However, the two parties signing this pact will enjoy an absolute majority in the assembly to change the laws in which they agree, without having to vote in favor of other political parties.
According to the government agreement that will be proposed to the National Assembly and that has been leaked to the press, the Left Bloc would keep seven ministries in addition to the presidency of the government, while the remaining five ministries would go to the National Liberal Party. These, although they would hold a lower number of positions, would have the Ministries of Defense and Justice - the other three would correspond to Education & Culture, Infrastructure & Transport and Food & Agriculture - so that despite being less, their weight in the Executive remains compensated in this way.
The Left Bloc, on the other hand, would occupy the portfolios of Foreign Affairs - ministry that is likely to be occupied by the former President of the Assembly and first transsexual Carola Antonella -, Internal Affairs, Science & Technology - all the ballots are in the well-known political and co -General Secretary of the Bloc Aristarco Azzara to occupy this ministry - Environment & Tourism, Commerce & Industry, Finance and Health & Social Services.
Speaking to the media after learning about the success of the negotiation, in which Alessia Soldato herself has directly intervened, she said that although it will not be an easy government or an extremely progressive government, "it is a first step towards a future best".
"From the Left bloc, and I personally, we thank and appreciate the predisposition of the National Liberal Party to negotiate with us. I know that this pact has surprised many citizens, who did not see how a party like ours would be able to agree on a coalition government with a liberal party. But the same electoral night, after knowing the results, I already announced that I was going to try to form a government. And it seems to have been a success. Of course I would prefer a government that is markedly progressive and left-wing, but we have to adapt to the circumstances and the parliamentary arithmetic is what it is. That is why we have decided that the first thing is to remove from the Presidency of the government Order, Faith and Family, who has been in that position for more than a decade and the only thing that it has achieved is to build an increasingly unequal and confronted society. With this government agreement, once it is approved and the ministers take office, we will try to revert decades of conservative policies. It will not be easy, and we will not be able to introduce as many changes as we would like, but we believe that it is the best solution to the current problem, preferable to leaving OFF to occupy the head of government for one more term. For this reason, we have agreed with the National Liberal Party on a series of economic measures, somewhere in the middle between what both parties defend, but undoubtedly preferable to the ideas defended by some of the parties that will now pass to the opposition. Likewise, we have also agreed to promote a defense of the workers and vulnerable groups in our nation, such as women or the LGBT community. From the Left Bloc, we are going to try to ratify an international agreement for the defense of workers, and we are going to try it from the first moment we occupy our positions. I understand that this government is not the best that our voters would like, but it is the best that, under current circumstances, can be achieved. "
In addition, Mrs. Soldato has said that she will also meet with the governors of the Silicia and Sarregna regions to promote agreements that allow the further development of the island and end years of mistreatment of its inhabitants, as many supporters of Alarianism, including from her own party, have been repeatedly asking for to the central government, with little success until now.
