THE ULD HOLD THEIR PRE-ELECTION CONGRESS
Grimaldo Simonette, the Prime Minister and the ULD Chairperson, held opened and closed this years general electoral congress of the party.
As every year before the elections, the ULD held their quatro-annual congress, called by the party leader, to revise the party's leadership and announce the ministerial candidates, and also demonstrate the power of the Liberal Democrats, the most successful party in Istalia of the last 20+years. Prime Minister Grimaldo Simonette decided that the congress will, as usual, conclude in him announcing the new ministerial candidates.
The changes made were:
Sahla Sabbagh got promoted to Deputies Leader, and she will replace Aini Haik in that position, and the new Whip will be Astrid Espinoza, former Secretary. The New Secretary will be Gentile Gialanella, currently an influential ULD MP. No other notable shifts within the party's structures were announced.
Before Simonette announced his new cabinet proposal, however, Del Gatto and Cappola held speeches, addressing both international and internal issues of Istalia, as well as the economy. Del Gatto, who is also the new candidate for Minister of Finance, announced that at the beginning of the next parliamentary term, the ULD will do everything to introduce a regressive tax system, while Elmo Cappola said that the party will lobby for the privatization of healthcare, as well as the decrease of medicine for lethal diseases.
Many have noticed the recent tensions on the line between Del Gatto (above) and Cappola (below), and noted that it is likely due to the fact that they are the biggest forces in the ULD currently, after Simonette.
They are also, however, candidates for Ministers, which improves their situation, and shows that Simonette trusts them.
They were followed by the acting leaders of the party; Elena Vespa-Baldassare and Erardo Candela, who mostly spoke about big budget cuts and further federalisation, a notion that both clearly support. Candela additionally said that "when he'll head Istalian schooling", the education system will be reviewed, and that he will try to popularize home education, a theme that is present in his latest book series. Vespa-Baldassare, however, said that she would consider the AI's proposal regarding the Istalian Federation.
Candela has always been a big popularizer of home education, especially among the gentility
If, as planned, Vespa-Baldassare would, in fact, assume the office of Minister of Internal Affairs, then she could push for the fulfilment of the proposition
However, the main part of the congress was Simonette's unveiling of his Ministerial candidates, chosen out of a carefully planned pool of surnames, ranging from ULD raised favourites to outsiders and nonpartisans.
Those were as follows:
Foreign Affairs: Islam Shamon-Baz, current Minister of Finance, and the ULD's ambassador in many meetings of Liberal and Libertarian parties around the world. As the Minister of Finance, he gained experience in representing the nation. Currently, he is deemed as a "convert", as he joined Simonette's loyalist camp.

After he announced the Cabinet candidates, and whilst he closed the congress Congress, Simonette spoke of how he supports many of the Federalist proposals, similarly to Vespa-Baldassare and Candela, and how he wishes further cooperation between the two parties on an economic level. He also announced that he will invite the other Istalian parties to dialogue about a possible rewrite of the constitution, which he deemed as old and n longer fitting, raising applause.
Prime Minister Simonette also announced that, unsurprisingly, he is the party's candidate for the office of Prime Minister
The Congress itself, however, was closed by President Reale, who joined the ULD during their meeting, to take the party's blessing and it's appointment as the presidential candidate, a seat for which he will run for the second time.
President Reale also announced that he will consider campaigning for the introduction of the office of Vice-President, something that the ULD always supported
