NO TO POLITICAL GAMES
Official reaction concerning the court case

Due to the allegations of mrs Carlabia which is supported emphatically by the opposition in the Assembly, the Government appointed the highly respected former judge of the Constitutional Court, Bruno Capriani, as their legal advisor and laywer. Prime Minister Guiseppe Druncaviano (PNI) presented mr Capriani ans very skillful, experienced and loyal to the constitution. The professional we need and deserve! The PM also said that this is a political court case by parties who doesn't know how to win elections to gain infuence. A bad signal towards our democracy, nation and electorate in general.

Mr Capriani stated that he is confident that is case will lead to an acquittal of all political based accusations. He added that it wouldn't supprise him if the this lawsuit will not be handled by the Court at all.
Mr Capriani said that he will wait till he hears from the Court.

Madame condemns Pontesian Regime
Istalian pop star Madame speaks out for the "oppressed people of Pontesi" on the Pontesian stage of her Majatran tour

Madame, the international pop-star, well known for her support for LGBT+ people's and women's rights, has sent a strong message for her Pontesian fans in Forum Hortus during yesterday's concert.
These are hard times for our communities. Fascist forces are manouvering in every corner on Majatra and Terra in order to take our freedoms away. But I ask the beautiful oppressed people of Pontesi to stay strong and have hope, they will not pass!

The istalian pop star concluded waving a rainbow flag, in solidarity with the queer community, which is currently persecuted by the Republican Party of Pontesi, the only legal party in the country.

Following the episode many istalian intellectuals have expressed their solidarity with the people of Pontesi and their indignation for the violation of human rights in the country.
Among them, Mauree Tagoe, spokeperson of Sinistra Ecologista, leader of the Istalian opposition and openly non-binary, who asked through the social network "Tweeted" for a mass boycott of made-in-Pontesi products and of all companies that support the current regime.

Nuova Istalia, 8 March 4906

Istalian ruling caste excludes women
New studies reveal how Istalian economy is not getting better, but the country is turning sexist and racist instead

When the last East Kayal Economic report came out [http://forum.particracy.net/viewtopic.php?p=169908#p169908] we expected to see, after decades of liberalism, all the sacrifices of the poor and of the working class to be repaid by being the most competitive ecomony on Terra, but surprisingly we were not. Our GDP is roughly the same as Deltaria's, a communist county, while richer nations were all social democracies or left-leaning countries, such as Dorvik, led by left-wing "Radical Party of Dorvik", Vascania, with a tradition of workers' rights and democratic socialism within its parliament, and Yingdala, the biggest social democracy of the world.

But the surprise comes by looking at the per capita GDP, where communist Deltaria is way ahead the rankings, and Istalia comes only in the 8th place.

So what are the results of the govenment's policies?

A report by the association "Equality Now", published today 8 March, International Day for women's rights, shows how things are evolving. Here the abstract of the report:

A 28 years long study conducted by the "Equality Now" foundation has discovered a worrying trend among istalian governments.

After the Diallo's Cabinet (4878-4881), in which 7 out of 13 cabinets were led by women, the representation of women in cabinets has drastically declined, with a women-to-ministries ratio of 6:13 during the Palmieri's government (4881-4886), of 4:13 during the Druncaviano's governments (4886-4891, both prior and after the coalition with the AP), and of 4:13 also during the Catucci's government, despite the fact that women form 49-50% of the Istalian population.

We have seen a decrease in representation also of other cathegories, such as people of majatran ethnicity, who constitute 13% of the populations (old datas and rough extimate which don't take mixed people into account) , the ratio was 2:13 during Diallo's Government and 1:13 during Palmieri's Government, with 0 Majatran ministers after 4886.

The same goes for people of other non-Istalian and non-Istalomajatran ethnicities, which are roughly 16% of the population (again, based on old statistics which don't take mixed people into account), but are always been underrepresented, with a ratio of only 1:13 during Diallo's and Palmieri's Governments, and a ratio of 0:13 in the latest cabinets*.

Openly queer|lgbtia+ people per minister ratio has also decreased, it was 2:13 during Diallo's Government, but has been 0:13 after that.

Overall our statistic point out that the most economically powerful cathegory of citizens, male of istalian ethnicity, which are only 35.5% of all citizens (but more than 69% of minister since 4886), are also the most politcally powerful, being overrepresented in any institution and expecially in the executives, in which they now almost double their real-life ratio. This is a very problem for us, it is a wake-up call that tells us that there is a problem with our democracy, as all citizens should be represented in the institutions and not just a small part of them.

We therefore recommend to future cabinets to take into account economic and social inequalities, which prevent many women and people from many etnicities and cathegories to run for elections, and act by helping those who can afford to candidate and then be elected to reach higher positions from which they are currently being excluded"

-Kemet Alaoui (spokesperson of Equality Now)

*We might be wrong since the name and surname of former minister Ficco Chadarno are not istalian, but we don't know his origins yet.

Will this be a wake-up call for President of the Republic Marcello Branano, which is now forming a new cabinet after the resignation of Prime Minister Niccolo Catucci? Only time will tell...

Elections bring change to Istalia
February 4921

Image

Istalia has elected a majority leftist assembly for the first time in a decade, ending the Istalian National Party's grip on the nation's policies - although the right-wing party is only barely a minority, holding 47% of seats. Long-standing opposition parties Eco-Left and Socialists & Democrats were joined by two new groups, the Radical Democrats and the Conservative Socialists, who both saw major gains.

Image

President Eliza Rangotti (NI) won re-election in a run-off against Tiziana Polidori (SD). Rangotti, who was first elected in 4912, will face a challenging term, as the National Party will likely struggle to enact any legislative agenda.

The four leftist parties have already united to form a cabinet under the leadership of Prime Minister Mahmud Al Kabir (SD). New assembly members have introduced a slate of legislative proposals that, if approved, would nationalize industries, expand the welfare state, increase civil liberties, and centralize government functions.

Although freshly-formed, the coalition government is fragile: the Socialist Conservatives, led by Vinesian community leader Alcino Cotta, have opposed most of the socially progressive legislation, and disputes over civil liberties could hamper the assembly's ability to pass new laws. In addition, rumors have swirled that the Popular Alliance, a disbanded populist party, may be returning to the Istalian political scene. If true, the Popular Alliance's resurgence could mean a massive shakeup in the 4925 elections.

Ministry of Agriculture seeks to increase Istalian exports
October 4922

Di Domizio addresses a gathering of farmers and agricultural exporters: "Our nation has been blessed with some of the world's finest land, a hospitable climate, and a proud horticultural tradition."

Agricultural Minister Clara Di Domizio (PSC) wants to make Istalia a leading exporter of fruits and vegetables by focusing on uniquely Istalian cultivars. Since taking office last month, Di Domizio has met with a number of farmers, scientists, and exporters from across the nation to discover what "hidden gems" Istalia might be able to share with the rest of Terra. Istalian farmers produce some of the world's largest quantities of grapes, olives, artichokes, lemons, apricots, cherries, and tomatoes. In an increasingly globalized world, however, it's harder for Istalian producers to stand out. As agricultural scientist Dr. Emidio Macchia put it, "prices for crops have been falling for quite some time, and it's become difficult for anyone to make a profit."

Di Domizio thinks she has a solution: find or create unique, hard-to-grow cultivars, and then sell these gourmet fruits to high-end food suppliers and restaurants on the global market. "When a new cultivar is developed, farmers gain a competitive advantage - at least for a while - and suddenly profits start returning," said Dr. Macchia, one of Di Domizio's chief advisors.

A coalition of food industry experts has put forth a number of potentially valuable varieties that have yet to become well-known. Among the most promising products: a sweet variety of lemon grown in Silicia and Sarregna, colorful tomatoes from Trivendito, and a uniquely flavorful grape found only on a family farm in Padagna. After identifying potential "winners," Di Domizio plans to expand production, introduce government-sponsored marketing, and sign export deals with foreign nations.

Although Di Domizio is focusing on fruits and vegetables for now, Istalia's rich agriculture sector holds many other potential products. The nation is also known for its refined food products, particularly wine and olive oil, and for animal products like cheese and wool. Depending on Di Domizio's success, more Istalian products may be on the way.

Alcino Cotta announces Presidential bid
June 4925

Image

Cotta at a rally in Vinesia

Alcino Cotta, chair of the Conservative Socialist Party, has announced his next project: a bid for President in 4929. "The time has come for new leadership, for a President who will take care of each and every Istalian," the 63-year-old businessman said in a fiery speech. "There will be no compromise. I will stand before the people!"

Cotta's announcement comes in the aftermath of Germano Scrivani (AP)'s failed race against incumbent President Eliza Rangotti (PNI). Although endorsed by the Popular Alliance, Socialists & Democrats, Radical Democrats, and Conservative Socialists, Scrivani garnered only 40% of the vote in a highly-anticipated 4925 run-off. Rangotti is now serving her fifth term as President.

Although the united opposition made legislative gains against the majority National Party in 4925, the fragile left-and-center coalition may fracture following a proposal by Cotta to reduce environmental protections. Rossana Mastice of the Eco-Left announced that her party would boycott the existing coalition if the Conservative Socialist-proposed Environmental Liberalization Act passes, leaving the future of Istalian government uncertain.

Image
The results of the 4925 election

Should the coalition fail, Cotta's dreams of a presidential race may be realized - or dashed - earlier than planned.

Although Cotta has long advocated for political policies, the multimillionaire showed little desire for office until the foundation of the Conservative Socialist Party in 4919. Cotta's run for President would be the first time he's stood before the Istalian people on his own merits.

Born to a poor farming family in Sarregna, Cotta opened a small Romulan grocery store at the age of 32 and has since created a retail empire across the country. In addition to a variety of retail stores, Cotta owns Istalian Transportation & Logistics, a transportation company, and Cotta Warehouse Solutions, a network of storage facilities. Cotta's controversial public life has caused concern among some conservatives, despite his publicly socially conservative stances: the businessman has a reputation for "living the high life," and is known for heavy smoking, drinking, and womanizing. In addition, Cotta has franchised the Endralonian supermarket chain Buy & Use in Istalia, which some critics have said could cause a conflict of interest should he be elected President. Most recently, Cotta oversaw the expansion of BoroCube - a plastic toy series - to the Istalian market.

Cotta has refused to apologize for his actions, and in the face of criticism he has only insisted that, whatever his faults, he stands for the Istalian people. "My sole concern is the Istalian people. In my Istalia, there would be no unemployment, no poverty, no hunger. As President, I will look after each and every one of you."

Disclosure: Alcino Cotta owns a majority stake in the Vinesian Beacon.

Rise of the 'Quanzar Movement'
June 5029

Image

"Quanzar" is not a word one would expect to hear in Istalia outside the walls of a history class. Referring to the great medieval Empire of Quanzar that once ruled over the eastern half of Majatra, the name evokes bitter memories in the minds of many Istalians, for whom "Quanzar" is a synonym for anti-Istalianism and Majatran minority rule, owing to the use of the name to refer to the entire country of Istalia during periods of ethnic Majatran domination. These days however the word has seen a resurgence with the rise of the so-called "Quanzar Movement", a separatist movement considering that the Sarrentina Peninsula constitutes a nation unto itself under the name of "Quanzar"

Image

In the multi-ethnic and multilingual nation of Istalia separatist movements are not an uncommon sight. In addition to the large Majatran and Solentian minorities, Istalians themselves are linguistically disunited. The Istalian language, the sole official language of the state, is spoken natively by a small minority of the population, while most Istalians speak the various Istalian "dialects" at home and in the street. Although linguists generally consider these "dialects" to be full-fledged languages, owing to their lack of mutual intelligibility to each other and to standard Istalian, their lack of prestige has enforced their designation as mere dialects of Istalian, too uncouth to be used in print or spoken on television. Because of this most speakers of these "dialects" have always considered themselves full and proper Istalians and have pledged their allegiance to Istalia as their people's nation-state and homeland.

However, the decline of Istalia and its effective political collapse in the 138 years since the fall of the Istalian Empire has caused many Istalians to lose their faith in their country and to question their ties to the distant political and economic elites in Romula. The ruling military junta under Generalissimo Tommaso Tivoli, in power for 25 years, has tried to restore order to the chaotic nation, and instead introduced a military dictatorship. With the stability and freedom once brought by the Empire and the early Republic now gone, separatist movements have grown in size and importance. The largest of these is the Movement for the Independence of Quanzar, an underground political party advocating for the secession of the Sarrentina Peninsula as a new republic to be named Quanzar. The movement groups together local Majatrans, known in their language as Quanzaris, as well as secessionist Istalians, speaker of the local languages of the peninsula. Arguing that there is a fundamental ethnic difference between the Sarrentina Peninsula and the island of Alaria, the separatists also consider that, in spite of their different languages and religions, the inhabitants of the peninsula form a singular nation with its distinct customs and history. Under the strict laws of the junta the separatists are forced to operate underground, but the loss of the government's credibility may soon open a vacuum of power that the young movement would be all to eager to fill.

Separatism Grows
June 5030

Image

In the year since the convergence of the various separatist and autonomist movements into the Movement for the Independence of Quanzar, the new political force has taken up the banner of the democratic opposition to the ruling junta, becoming an unlikely leader of Istalian resistance against the military government. If until now Quanzarism has been the province of a small radical Majatran-speaking minority, the collapse of state institutions and the subsequent brutal military dictatorship have alienated enough Istalians that they no longer identify with their country of citizenship, and many of those indigenous to the Sarrentina Peninsula now openly call for the establishment of their homeland as an independent state. The fact that the separatists have openly been calling for an end to the dictatorial policies of the junta and for the organization of free and fair elections has endeared many more who would otherwise consider themselves loyal Istalians to their cause.

Image

The rise of Quanzarism is paralleled by the reemergence of its equivalent nationalist movement on the island of Alaria, Alarianism, a more firmly established and older separatist movement historically championed by parties on the left of the political spectrum. The rise of the Movement for the Independence of Quanzar has spurred Alarianists to join forces and establish their own separatist organization, the Alarian Bloc, similarly advocating for the independence of Alaria. Owing to repression by the junta the two separatist organizations do not yet seem to have established direct ties, though at the moment they are the closest thing to a democratic opposition under the military dictatorship.
