The Left Bloc is launched
Former astronaut Pietro Reggio is behind the creation of the new ecosocialist and republican partyLeft: Pietro Reggio as an astronaut; right: Mr. Reggio announcing his new partyThis afternoon, the former astronaut of the Istalian Space Agency Pietro Reggio announced at a press conference the launch of his new party, known as the Blocco della Sinistra or Il Blocco (Left Bloc), a party that, according to his own definition, "will have an ecosocialist, progressist, feminist and republican ideology", in order to group both the voters who reject the monarchy but who do not identify with the right, as well as the progressive voters who see as the only left party of the nation does not satisfy their ideological needs.
"We have arrived to stay," said Mr. Reggio, 51, who has traveled to space up to four times in different stages.
"I have great respect for the institutions and for our nation, but I still remember, as a teenager, the Republican era, and for me, living in a monarchy, however parliamentary, seems totally anachronistic. In the same way, I think that the existence of a single left-wing party in Istalia is harmful, since it is statistically impossible to represent all progressive sensibilities, while the right is represented by several parties and this means that more potential voters go to the polls to deposit the election ballots in their favor. It's time to change that. "
Mr. Reggio has announced he is "excited" by this new stage in his life, in which he intends to give the best of himself and collaborate with the political forces of the nation to "build a better future for all."
The political party has already begun to propose its first laws in the National Assembly, in relation to surrogacy, the nobility titles or the army.
"I want to build a pioneer nation in science and education, where the true meaning of social republicanism is fulfilled and where all citizens, regardless of their ethnicity, religion, sexuality or gender, doesn't feel discriminated."
