Alessandro Bencivenni of the "opportunist" wing wins PND leadership election!
Fabiola Mondadori takes responsibility for her general election failure and retires!
Image
The new PND leader Alessandro Bencivenni

Following four years of being leaderless, the PND has taken its toll losing seats in the chamber, Senate and in the presidential election. Consequently, Vice-Leader Fabiola Mondadori lost the internal leadership election to Alessandro Bencivenni and quit politics. Her "conservative" camp has taken a toll and many notable members such as Maximilian Varano and Abraham Lutti retired because they "can not work with a leader who does not wholeheartedly support nuclear power, and who sides with clear enemies of the National Democratic ideals". Simone Amalberti of the party leadership also retired as he said: "A party behaving like a prostitute, siding with anyone with the sole purpose to govern at all costs, without any strategy or ideals has no future. I do not want to be a part of this!"

The unity of the party has taken a toll as a clear diarchy has formed between conservatives and opportunists, with the opportunists led by Minister of Internal Affairs Alessandro Bencivenni currently holding the upper hand over a broken conservative wing. The opportunists also managed to place the pro-Majatran Alliance and pro-Bencivenni Bella Azurri (PND MP) as the uncontested Vice Leader of the National Democrats, ensuring at least temporary the dominance of the opportunists and their direction over the conservative party wing.

Nonetheless, the new leader of the conservative PND wing is the popular Minister of Education and Culture Juliana Vespa-Baldassare, daughter of former leader Luciano Vespa-Baldassare, and who is currently the most popular PND politician with many positively noting her work for the Istalian education system. She is backed mainly by the heir of another political dynasty, one of PND's 6 senators of this legislature Giuseppe di Nero. Together they hope to tilt the tides back in their favour, and back to the founding party ideals of National Democracy.

Jelbanian crisis: the Third Strategic Naval Group next to the Jelbanian territorial waters
Ministry of Defense: "It is not our intention to start a conflict but we can not exempt ourselves from establishing a form of deterrence to prevent further nuclear attacks", while the Foreign Minister is ready to leave for Qart Qildar

The Ministry of Defense has announced that the Third Strategic Naval Group is in sight of the Jelbanian territorial waters while the First Aeronaval Group has just entered the Majatran basin.
The Third Strategic Group consists of two Vittorioso class' strategic nuclear ballistic submarines and a number not openly declared by the Ministry of missile and attack submarines (mainly Romula and Matteo Madei classes).
The Ministry then released this communication after the announcement of the arrival of the Third Group:

The Istalian Government realizes that at the moment in the western Majatran Sea important military forces are converging both Vanukean and from the nations of the Northern Council and that this will make the Jelbanian coasts a very high voltage area. Unfortunately, Istalia can not avoid establishing a form of deterrence to prevent further Vanuku's nuclear attacks.
However, we are determined to prevent a degeneration of the situation, especially between Vanuku and the nations of the Northern Council, who have already announced their intention to repel the Vanukean forces, and Deltarian ones, with a peace mission that, however, we consider as very risky: the local population is now on the verge of human endurance due to the presence of foreign military forces and we believe that further forces in the field can not do anything but worsen the situation.
What we certainly can not exempt from asking to Vanuku is a complete and immediate withdrawal of all the military forces deployed in Jelbania, a request to be extended also to Deltaria, but to date, clearly, we must first of all turn to Wiel.
At Wiel we talk, in light of the changes taking place at the head of the nation, so that the future administration and the future sovereign take immediate steps to follow up the announced intention to end the conflict that can be pursued only in one way : a general demobilisation from Jelbania.

By the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, instead, with a brief press release it has been announced that Istalia fully supports the initiative of the Cildanian Government and that it hopes for a strong and decisive common political and diplomatic action by part of the member countries of the Majatran Alliance to face the current crisis.

Eruption column of the Tanhri reached heights of over 40 kilometres

Breaking news: IstalAir's Flight crashes into Majatra Lake
Aircraft stalled due to ash and emissions from the Tanhri Eruption and unable to land in Jelbania, pilots attempted a water landing, but with disastrous results

The official communication from IstalAir was released only this morning: an airliner headed to Yishelem crashed in the night into Lake Majatra, sinking with all 278 passengers and crew members.
The Flight ISA 908, departed from the International airport of Milona-Turrino at 17.30 yesterday, after about six hours of flight, flying over the Deltaro-Jakanian border, announced that it had stumbled into a cloud of ash and volcanic emissions pushed in a short time from the high winds to cross the flight path. Because of the conflict in Jelbania and therefore of the nuclear explosion, which has put out of use the electronic equipment in the radius of kilometers and kilometers, the weather alert service in the area is now practically absent and it is precisely for this reason that for many years flights that should fly over the area are forced to deviate to pass above the Majatran Sea or south, over Jakania and Cobura.
With the escalation of the Jelbanian crisis, the routes above the northern shores of Deltaria and Jelbania were also banned from commercial flights now, forcing all flights to divert south or to the islands to the north.

The volcanic emissions of the Tanhri, until yesterday contained in the Jelbanian area, are rapidly expanding, covering the skies of neighboring countries, especially those facing south and east (Jakania, Deltaria until now) due mainly to high-altitude jet streams. IstalAir also criticized the Deltarian flight control that would not transmit information on the meteorological situation (according to the latest communication from Flight 908 the on-board atmospheric radar detected the ash cloud suddenly deviating from the north just from the Jelban-Deltarian border and then lowering altitude.
The pilots have announced that, unable to dodge, they found themselves in a very short time in the middle of the cloud and in a few minutes the alarms of the engines were activated because of the ash that began to damage them.
After ten minutes of flight, entered the Jelbanian territory, and after several requests for emergency landing in nearby Jelbania (tribal area in the the south-west) that have not been answered, the pilots have tried to divert south to reach Jakania.
At 2.58 am, with one of the latest communications, from the plane the pilots felt the impossibility of reaching Jakania and announced that they would attempt an emergency ditching on Lake Majatra. At 3.09 the latest communication: "even the flight controls are abandoning us, we can not hold the quota, ash weighs down the aircraft, we will try an emergency landing in Lake Majatra...".

Relatives, friends and acquaintances of those on board the Flight are already gathering in the headquarters of IstalAir, mainly in Milona, hoping to receive further news from the company which said: "we have lost contact with Flight 908 not far from the coburan waters of Lake Majatra, we have already contacted the Coburan authorities to request assistance for search and rescue operations, we will release further communications as soon as we have more elements".
According to the passenger list on board there were: 6 crew members (all Istalians), 204 Istalian citizens, 49 Beiteynese citizens, 11 Pontesian citizens, 3 Malivians, 2 Barmenians, 2 Vanukeans and 1 Coburan citizen. The Istalian authorities are already reaching out the Foreign Ministries of the nations whose citizens were on board the flight.

Between natural disasters and an interminable civil war, also devastated by the nuclear blast, the Jelbanian crisis continues to make victims while the world is questioning the outcome of a conflict that could see all the great powers get involved and therefore a worse ending epilogue.

One of the nuclear guided-missile/fast attack submarine of the Romula class emerged between the Vanukean and Northern Council forces

Jelbanian Crisis: Istalia supports the Purple Revolution
Foreign Minister: "No more foreign military forces, we trust the leaders of the Revolution! The Jelbanians have to recover the country with their forces" then appeals to the future Vanukean Queen: "Your Majesty, it's time for a concrete and definitive gesture to save materially and morally Vanuku!" and finally launchs an ultimatum to Deltaria: "Retreat or we will make rain fire, first on your troops in Jelbania, then on your military installations in Deltaria and finally on your cities!"

ROMULA - In a move that would see the country literally place itself between Vanuku and the Northern Council, Foreign Minister Davide Mastromauro called a press conference this morning at the Ministry during which an official statement was issued regarding the ongoing Jelbanian crisis.
The Istalian Republic has officially decided to stand against further military interventions in Jelbania, reiterating to Wiel the request for immediate withdrawal of the Vanukean troops and then also turned to the nations of the Northern Council ready to arrive in Jelbania to bring a Peacekeeping mission.
These was the words of the Minister:

For too many years the Jelbanian people have endured unspeakable suffering and the interference of foreign nations and today, with an immense international contingent ready to disembark in Jelbania, the people are reacting and expressing all the intolerance and fear in seeing their nation having to suffer further fighting, this time between three foreign forces.
The time has now come to let the Jelbanian people regain possession of their country, the time has come for local leaders to gather the Jelban people under their wing to reunite the nation.
For this reason, Istalia has decided to give full support to the so-called Purple Revolution, the peaceful and spontaneous uprising of the Jelban people who are spreading in the Free Republic and therefore in the Northern Khaganate. Precisely these two entities must be recognized as the future of the nation. The Free Republic and the Northern Khaganate, long engaged in serious dialogue, must receive all the necessary diplomatic and technical and political support to reach a compromise between the parties.
For our part, keeping in mind the cultural and social characteristics of Jelbania, we want to expose us inviting these two political subjects to unite and to make converge their institutional structures in a confederation that recognizes a Khagan of the Jelbanians as guarantor of the unity of the confederation and then a Government that responds to the Khagan, as a moral and cultural guide of the country, and to the representatives democratically elected by the people of the various Confederate entities, possibly meeting in a Parliamentary Chamber that operates as a Lower House alongside the Kurultai, which should instead be understood as Upper House where the Jelbanian tribal and noble leaders will continue to meet.
What we should offer the new entity as a form of support must be limited to an air support against the Deltarian forces, while with the forces of the South-Western tribal areas we firmly believe that we must make pression so that this area recognize the authority of the new confederation and of the Khagan, perhaps recognizing the officially minor title of Khan to the local leader and recognizing him as the supreme authority of the so called tribal area.
The combined forces of these three entities, however, to date must understand that they have only one priority goal: the end of foreign occupation, especially by part of the Katonid Khanate.
Istalia will continue to engage in dialogue with Vanuku so that a decision is finally taken by Wiel that, we repeat, can not be postponed further. In addition, and this time the government is addressing directly to the future Queen now close to its coronation: Your Majesty, Vanuku today is now being ostracized by the rest of the world, is founding itself with the nuclear arsenals of the major world powers pointed on its cities, finds itself on the brink of a conflict that could only generate for Vanuku at least ten times the dead that already fell on the fields of the Jelbanian steppes! To save the nation, both materially and morally and ethically, only one thing remains to be done in Vanuku, that is withdrawing all the troops and immediately leaving the Jelbanian conflict.

On the other hand, Istalia must launch the same appeal to the joined forces of the Northern Council: even this intervention is likely to get bogged down in the complex Jelbanian theater, and indeed, many soldiers from many different nations could face the wrath of the jelbanian people first of all and find themselves fighting both against Vanukueans and Deltarians, and against the local population. In fact, we firmly believe that if foreign personnel have to disembark in Jelbania, they must be made up exclusively of medical and rescue personnel to bring humanitarian aid to the population. Istalia has already sent health and rescue personnel together with the First Aeronaval Group and we are ready to join forces with the humanitarian staff of the Northern Council.

Before concluding, however, we can not limit ourselves to referring only to Vanuku and the Northern Council, because, despite the role of victim in the case of nuclear bombing, Deltaria remains the very first responsible for the crisis, the first to send mercenary forces to take advantage of the chaos of the Jelbanian national disintegration, to install a puppet government led by a Deltarian leader and therefore to perpetuate atrocities against the local population.
Deltaria can not avoid making the decision to put an end to any involvement in Jelbania, but if with Vanuku we firmly believe that we can reach a solution by diplomatic means, we can only admit that we do not see any solution other than a proof of force in the form of a veritable ultimatum: Or the Government of Čachtice withdraws immediately from Jelbania or from the sky we will make rain fire and destruction, first on your troops in Jelbania, then on your military installations in Deltaria and finally on your cities. To show that it is not just words, the Istalian Government officially announces that the Fourth Aeronaval Group has already left for the Deltarian coastlines and that the Artanian Rapid Intervention Squad, based in Malivia and formed mainly by guided-missile cruisers, is in navigation to meet with the Fourth Group (OOC: not nuclear bombing!).

The Istalian Government is determined to support these proposals in front of the rest of the Majatran Alliance and to form a common front so that both Vanuku, Deltaria
and the nations of the Northern Council listen and respect the will of the representatives of almost a billion people living in the Majatran continent and represented by the Alliance which, although in difficulty, can not be arbitrarily excluded from any dialogue and negotiation, reminding the nations of the Northern Council that they are in our home and that it has already been barely accepted the arrival of such a contingent in Majatra: once time ago one of the nations of this organization criticized Istalia for the role of "gendarme of the world"; well, today we can not but return the criticism to the sender.

Thank you

In addition to the departure of additional military forces, this time en route to Deltaria as specified, it was announced that three Romula-class' nuclear fast guided-missile/attack submarines emerged revealeing their position and placing themselves between the Vanukean forces to the northwest and the Northern Council forces to the north-east to a distance of about 15 km from both sides and a precise order was given: to guarantee a buffer zone between the naval contingents. It seems that even the frigates of the Istalian contingent are converging in the area already patrolled by submarines to also ensure the defense of the airspace.
A burning situation for our units, placed between the possible Vanukean and Northern Council shooting line, but the Ministry of Defense stated:

We must do everything possible to avoid a clash between the many forces involved. The Istalian forces do not want to damage either the Vanukean forces or the Northern Council forces, but we will open fire if attacked, therefore, for the safety of the personnel and naval vessels involved we launch an invitation to Wiel and the Northern Council to ensure their units maintain distance and do not initiate hostilities.
At the Northern Council we want to say that we are willing to guarantee the passage of exclusively humanitarian personnel, but first we want the Jelban authorities, possibly the Free Republic, to give their consent for the landing of this personnel. We strongly advise against further unilaterally decision with regard to the Jelbanian people and authorities.

The PND ministers send their condolences to IstalAir flight victims
Minister of Defence Silvio Conte confirms the message of the Foreign Ministry

The IstalAir flight catastrophe has made clear to many Istalians that the situation in Jelbania is not too far away. It directly affected over 200 lives of Istalian citizens on board and even more at home, making clear that the Jelbanian conflict is essentially at Istalia's doorstep. The PND Ministers Bencivenni (interior), Conte (Defence) and Vespa-Baldassare (education and culture) have all sent their condolences to the families of the victims, who are still reported officially as "missing". Bencivenni has taken some responsibility by stating that:
Our internal ground control should have insisted on a different flight route from the beginning.

Meanwhile, Minister of Defence Silvio Conte has had more definitive words on the Jelbanian situation, supporting what has already been issued by the foreign Ministry:
The Jelbanian war is currently not about Jelbania. It is about Vanuku, the Northern Council - which should not be here if you ask me - and Deltaria which should take full responsibility and stop immediately. Our Ministry of foreign affairs has already stated our intention to work as a buffer, and this implies that we are not going to think twice about using force to protect our Istalian soldiers and moreover the new found hope in Jelbania, which would ensure stability at our doorstep. Force is NOT an answer, but it is a tool to prevent some people from thinking of it as such.

Please, be reasonable. Thank you.

ARIAN'S LEADERSHIP TO BE CONTESTED
Both Moro and al-Ozer announce their wllingness to compete against the incumbent chairperson

Image
"Arian will have to face justice" according to some ULD members

It looks like in the upcoming elections, Rashid Arian's "uncontested" leadership may be, in fact, strongly contested. Many within the liberal democrats state that Arian will "have to face justice" due to his dirigist approach to the party's internal politics and policy creation, and loss of support in recent elections; even if the ULD is still the largest Istalian party. It doesn't help that he entered a conflict with Agostino Salazar, the once again president, as Salazar believes that Istalia will need a grand coalition, but Arian instead hopes to build a minority government. Andreina Moro and Sad al-Ozer already stated that they are considering running for the party's leadership, and it is likely that the same declaration will come from Cesare-Vespa Baldassare, the oldest member of the political dynasty currently in politics; however, he is grooming his son to replace him. Another possible candidate is Amir al-Iskenderid, the current leader of the party's youth wing, known for his incredibly radically liberal stances on economic issues, such as, in the shape of Hugo Vespa-Baldassare, a regressive tax system. It also appears as if the party's "monolith" era will soon come to an end, as the split between the "non-partisan moderates" and "partocratic extremists" is becoming larger and larger with each day.

Image
Will al-Ozer compete in the ULD leadership elections? And, if so, will he win them?

However, for the current moment, it looks like al-Ozer is the biggest threat for Arian's leadership; the ex-minister of Science and Education and candidate for President, also an astronaut, is polling at around 35 percent, sometimes even reaching around 40, whilst Arian is stuck in the 20-22% range.

Al-Ozer himself, however, simply commented saying that

Leading the party? Yes, that is on my wish list.

Jelbanian Crisis: Istalia launches an appeal to the Northern Council: "let the peace process proceed without destructive interventions!Jelbania itself asks for it!"
The Minister of Foreign Affairs expresses the Istalian satisfaction in learning of the announced peace agreements and declares that the Free Republic of Jelbania supports the Plan for a Confederal Khaganate; great satisfaction especially after the criticism from abroad

ROMULA - The Minister of Foreign Affairs Mastromauro and the Minister of Defense Conte met together with journalists at the Travertine Palace (headquarters of the Ministry of Defense) to express the satisfaction of Istalia for the recent evolution of the situation in Jelbania.

The Foreign Minister has indeed stated that, despite criticisms from international institutions for the study of geopolitics, the road traveled by Istalia has paid off. Istalia has decided to pursue the diplomatic path with Vanuku convinced that with the new sovereign and the new government a peaceful solution could be reached.
These are the words of the Minister:

It was not a question of applying two weights and measures, partly because, if Deltaria was threatened with conventional missile bombardments, Vanuku had the nuclear warheads of two Istalian SSBS aimed at their military installations and various strategic objectives. However, we had faith in the change in internal politics in Vanuku, a change that was not under way in Deltaria where the same government and the same majority in favor of the war continued to remain in power and with which diplomatic contacts had fallen from time. Despite Deltarian's statements about the impossibility of our aircraft arriving in Deltaria, I am sure that the Deltarian military experts know that we would not have used airplanes but our guided-missile cruisers, whose missiles would have easily reached Deltaria thanks to the data provided by our satellites. However, we will leave them the benefit of the doubt.
Now, with the next troop withdrawal, it is time to let the Jelbanians take back the fate of their nation. We are even more convinced that the arrival of new military forces from abroad can not do anything but prolong chaos in Jelbania for years.
We want to announce that the Government of the Free Jelbanian Republic has warmly welcomed the Plan presented by Istalia about a Confederal Khaganate that would see the Republic and the Northern Khaganate join a Confederation that will also be open to the other factions involved.
We firmly believe that it is right to give space to this proposal that could open a window of hope in the Jelbanian chaos.
During the announced meeting of the Majatran Alliance in Cildania we will propose to the rest of the member nations to support a vote against the military intervention of the Northern Council in Jelbania.
Although we recognize the good intentions of the nations of the Northern Council, we reiterate our conviction that with the withdrawal of the Vanukean and Deltarian forces confidence should be given to the Jelbanians to whom Istalia offers technical and political support to mend the rift between the various factions and to create a new institutional set-up for the country.

Jelbanian Crisis: Ministry of Defense announces the pull out of the SSBNs
With the demobilization of the nuclear forces from the Majatran Sea, also Istalia has announced the withdrawal of its submarines but the First Aeronaval Group will remain on the spot to land the humanitarian aid destined to face the Tanhiri eruption and the nuclear emergency

ROMULA - The official announcement came this morning from the Ministry of Defense which confirmed that the Istalian SSBN submarines are also en route to return at home.
With this move, even the last units capable of launching nuclear warheads deployed in the past months among the international forces will abandon the Jelbanian waters and the Majatran Sea and will therefore return in Istalia like the Vanukeane units and then those of the Northern Council.

To remain in the Jelbanian waters, however, will be the First Aeronaval Group: the Ministry of Defense has indeed confirmed that humanitarian aid transported on the spot will still be deployed alongside the various humanitarian personnel arrived from all over the world to deal with the nuclear disaster and then the eruption of the Tanhiri.
Moreover, Istalia confirms the very good relations established with the Free Jelbanian Republic which warmly welcomed the Istalian offer of assistance in the process of institutional reconstruction of the country.

Meanwhile, in Cildania, the debate continues among the nations of the Majatran Alliance: Istalia has in fact proposed to the other Allied nations to suspend Vanuku until a total dismantling of the nuclear arsenal and then the payment of sanctions related to the nuclear disaster and also reiterated the request to avoid sending additional military forces, as proposed by Cildania, as a peacekeeping force which, although formed by Majatran troops, would still represent an element of destabilization both of the peace process between Vanuku and Deltaria, and of the national and institutional reconstruction process for which Istalia has committed itself enormously.
On the other hand, Vanuku attempted to defend his positions above all by leveraging the interference of the Northern Council in the Majatran affairs and declaring that if a disarmament process and a series of sanctions and payments are to be imposed, negotiations will have to be conducted within the framework of the Majatran Alliance.

PRESIDENT SALAZAR WILL TRY TO FORM A CENTRIST CABINET
The ULD nominated President will ask the ULD and other parties of the center and centre-right to form a cabinet

Image
Salazar is currently analyzing all his options to form a viable cabinet led by the liberal democrats

And so, after the elections, Agostino Salzar, whom the ULD nominated once again for the seat of President, will try to form a cabinet consisting of centrist parties; the first one since the start of left-wing dominated cabinets of the last few years. He supposedly already asked the ULD to nominate a candidate whom he'll appoint the task of forming a government, however that may take a while, due to the party's internal struggles and conflicts on the line of Arian and al-Ozer supporters; the men will meet in elections for the post of party leader later this year, with all odds showing a decisive victory of the former minister of Science and Technology.

Image
Sad al-Ozer is currently leading the leadership polls in the ULD, however the situation may change, with some officials still undecided as to who'll they'll endors

Image
Although his support began to decline in the polls, the ULD Chairperson still believes that he can win the upcoming leadership elections

No matter the result of the elections, it would spark an even larger internal divide within the ULD than the one present currently, which may force Salazar to find a candidate from outside the party, most likely an independent, or Salazar could stick to the ULD, and instead go with a less partisan candidate, just loosely related to the party, or even a mayor, with the president of Genova, a ULD-nominated candidate, coming to mind. Apparently, Salazar is more likely to give the chance to the ULD chairperson after the elections, if the current chairperson, Rashid Arian, will win. However, that begins to seem more and more unlikely, as weeks pass by, and his poll results start to drop.
