Alessandro Bencivenni of the "opportunist" wing wins PND leadership election!
Fabiola Mondadori takes responsibility for her general election failure and retires!
The new PND leader Alessandro Bencivenni
Following four years of being leaderless, the PND has taken its toll losing seats in the chamber, Senate and in the presidential election. Consequently, Vice-Leader Fabiola Mondadori lost the internal leadership election to Alessandro Bencivenni and quit politics. Her "conservative" camp has taken a toll and many notable members such as Maximilian Varano and Abraham Lutti retired because they "can not work with a leader who does not wholeheartedly support nuclear power, and who sides with clear enemies of the National Democratic ideals". Simone Amalberti of the party leadership also retired as he said: "A party behaving like a prostitute, siding with anyone with the sole purpose to govern at all costs, without any strategy or ideals has no future. I do not want to be a part of this!"
The unity of the party has taken a toll as a clear diarchy has formed between conservatives and opportunists, with the opportunists led by Minister of Internal Affairs Alessandro Bencivenni currently holding the upper hand over a broken conservative wing. The opportunists also managed to place the pro-Majatran Alliance and pro-Bencivenni Bella Azurri (PND MP) as the uncontested Vice Leader of the National Democrats, ensuring at least temporary the dominance of the opportunists and their direction over the conservative party wing.
Nonetheless, the new leader of the conservative PND wing is the popular Minister of Education and Culture Juliana Vespa-Baldassare, daughter of former leader Luciano Vespa-Baldassare, and who is currently the most popular PND politician with many positively noting her work for the Istalian education system. She is backed mainly by the heir of another political dynasty, one of PND's 6 senators of this legislature Giuseppe di Nero. Together they hope to tilt the tides back in their favour, and back to the founding party ideals of National Democracy.
