Morandi unexpectedly announces his withdrawal from politics: Hadan Al-Maktum appointed Interim Spokesperson by the National Directory
The Radical candidate for the Presidency of the last elections finds himself managing a party strongly polarized around Morandi: "to concentrate on the reforms supported by the Marraists is the way to depersonalize the party"
ROMULA - Welcomed by the general surprise this morning came the resignation of Alessandro Morandi from all the offices of the Radical Alliance and therefore the announcement of his definitive withdrawal from politics.
After almost two decades at the head of the party, one of the most controversial leaders of the Radicals, an advocate of the liberal shift of the last decade, has finally decided to pass the reins of the party entrusting it in the hands of the National Directory.
The Party, and the Directorate in the first place, however, suffered from excessive personalization, commented some external opponents who criticized the decision of the Directory to appoint Hadan Al-Maktum without even taking the time to consult the representatives of the various regional and local sections. The opponents of Morandi, who after resigning have strongly resumed to make their voices heard, claim that the Directory has chosen the radical candidate for the Presidency of the Republic during the last elections still on the advice of Morandi who for some years had taken under the his wing Al-Maktum, being the latter close to the liberal extraparliamentary movements that Morandi had managed to bring to the party during his years of leadership.
Al-Maktum, still a bit 'in the shadows under Morandi, is a former journalist, well-known until ten years ago as the face of the news of Globo5, the flagship broadcaster on the clear TV of the giant TerraMedia, but also as a founding member of Liberi! extraparliamentary movement, founded by young Istalian entrepreneurs to support liberalization policies in the economic field. Al-Maktum, in fact, although he has started his journalistic career, has in fact founded together with some Sarregnan entrepreneurs also an online news platform that offers advanced podcast and online tv services. Taking advantage of a certain charisma and his fame the public, in a few years he made Liberi! an association formed by almost 25 thousand entrepreneurs from all over Istalia that Alessandro Morandi successfully tried to bring closer to the party and succeeded in convincing Al-Maktum to join the Radical Alliance.
Al-Maktum, faced with the criticism of excessive personalization of the party, has been careful not to criticize his political mentor, stating rather that now the party must really concentrate on important reforms and definitively take the path of Marraism supported by Morandi, making it the party's central ideology and not the "tendency" of its leader. Just to point out the confirmation of the liberal positions adopted by the party has therefore decided to instruct several radical parliamentarians to present a series of draft laws designed to stimulate the private sector and liberalize various economic sectors. Moreover, Al-Maktum has shown its closeness to the Libertarian Collective, declaring that in front of the Congress that will be called to elect the new leadership, he will propose as next Secretary of the National Directory Melissa El Salefi, daughter of the current President of the General Assembly of the World Congress and former Foreign Minister of Istalia, and leader of the Libertarian Collective, the longest lasting wing inside the party, also present within the predecessor parties of Radical Alliance, namely Liberty and Progress and the Istalian Social Liberal Party and which was one of the main wings of Liberty and Progress under the leadership of Filippo Marra.
