Prime Minister Arthur Sargent celebrates massive election victories
The PPD made massive gains in the latest elections, gaining 15% on the PLL. Prime Minister Arthur Sargent, the leader of the PPD, spoke afterwards before a large crowd in the PPD convention center at PPD headquarters outside of Valois. (Full speech text below)
Thank everyone, thank you so much (applause)! We have accomplished so much tonight! Lourenne is barrelling towards the Sapphire Age (Applause)! Now there are a few people we need to thank tonight, but first, let us have a moment of silence for our good friend Fabien Cartier (silence). So, first, let's thank Fabien and his family for their continued service to this great nation. I plan on knighting Mrs. Carter for her service. Also, let's thank Hector for his endless campaigning across Lourenne (applause)! And he'll do a great job once again as Governor of Luçande. Also, I'd like to thank my wife Claudia for her everlasting patience and her willingness to campaign after giving birth to our second child (applause). I would like to thank Giselle and Leo for being so good while Mommy and Daddy are travelling. Finally, I'd like to thank everyone who has donated money, campaigned, knocked on doors, and inspired people to vote for us. This is a great victory. Into the Sapphire Age (Applause)!

Coalition talks are expected to start soon, with the expectation being that the PPD will either keep the seats they have or gain one or two seats in cabinet, depending upon whether the PLL will agree to it.

Les Nouvelles Lourenne

12th April, 4354

-Joint Military exercises with Kazulia continues

-PLL all in for modernization

-Monarchist Protesters march in Valois

This month marked another significant military achievement with Kazulia. The Lourennais army continues to improve and cooperate with the Kazulian Armed Forces in Kazulia. Most of our Lourennais troops are participating in the military exercises and are said to be gaining much experience from the Kazulian Army. More information on the exercises soon.

Today, PLL officials in Valois explained that the modernization period is of utmost importance at the moment. Almost all Lourennians belong in the middle to high class in relation to the economy. Modernization period will ensure that there will no longer be a lower class whose income is less than 60,000 LFR. Currently, and estimated 400,000 people in Lourenne remain in the Lower Income Class. 2 million less than a decade ago.

It has been almost 80 years since the monarchist seize in Lourenne and Today almost 12,000 protesters marched the streets of Valois hoping to restore the Monarchy of Lourenne. Absurd are these thoughts of a Monarchy. Some protesters promised a friendly protest, others warned for retaliation against all governments of Lourenne.

Police Officials are beginning to investigate the threats made by the monarchists. A press conference by the Chief of Police will be made soon to address the threats.

Michaud calls for increased spending
In a speech today, Minister of Internal Affairs Earl Hector Michaud called for increased spending so that the government could complete its modernization program with the renovation of public transport across Lourenne. The call comes after the modernization programs being carried out under Michaud's direction stunted or even stopped. Michaud said that it was imperative that more funding be allocated for the programs to be successful. It is unknown whether the call will be accepted by congress.

Prime Minister Sargent addresses the nation after shooting
Immediately after the shooting at the Museum of National History, Prime Minister Claudia Sargent addressed the nation from her office in Erincourt. Sargent said that the national police force was investigating the shooting. Sargent emphasized the need for unity, saying "Lourenne is a democracy now, and the large majority of the people in the nation cherish that. However, some wish for a return to the monarchist days. Let me emphasize this now: As long as the Parti Populaire Démocratique and Parti Líberal Lourennais are in power, the monarchy will not return. The PPD-PLL coalition is built around democracy, and we will not allow these royalist rebels to take our government. However, I will say this. Despite our strong opposition to the return of a monarchy, please do not try to take matters into your own hands. Instead, if someone around you is making dangerous statements, please report it to the authorities immediately, because if you attempt to handle things on your own, others will be hurt. Finally, let me say that my thoughts and prayers are with those who were killed or injured, and are with their families for being forced to cope with this. Now more than ever, we need to be united in the face of threats to our democracy, but we must also be tolerant of the attackers, so that they understand, we are not against them. Because if they understand that, we can bring them back into the fold." Prime Minister Sargent is set to visit Erincourt University Hospital later today.

Address from Capet-D'Orléans

Image

Fellow Lourennians,

Today our nation has experienced a horrific attack on our nation's capital. On behalf on the PLL and the Chambre of Députés we send our thoughts and prayers to the families of the affected. Lourenne is with you in this time of grief. To address this attack, the Monarchy will never return. The PLL was created on the basis of republicanism. We will never go back to the Monarchy as long as our party exists. I thank Prime Minister Claudia Sargent for her remarks. I will be joining her at the Hospital to see the injured. Even though this attack has affected Lourenne today, we stand more united and stronger than ever. Thank you, and long live Lourenne.

President Paul Antoine Capet-D'Orléans

Prime Minister Claudia Sargent is out of critical condition and has had both bullets removed from her body. She was airlifted to Valois so that she could recover at home. Guards have been placed around the PPD HQ campus to protect the Prime Minister and her family, along with Hector Michaud and his wife Lucia, who have taken up temporary residence there until it is safe to return to Luçande. Minister Michaud has scheduled a press conference at PPD HQ for tomorrow with an important update on the investigation concerning Prime Minister Sargent's assassination attempt, and the Museum shooting.
