Premier Ministre Charest responds to Minister Van Kampsch's comments in the Chambers of the Assemblée nationale

Lac des Lumières -- "Mr. Speaker, We are at a critical time in our country's history and our political system is highly unstable due to the actions of my colleagues across the floor and in the National Unity Government. At this moment, the Government of Lourenne is trying to determine what is to happen to the Imperial family and the institution that it represents. We, the Union Nationale, believe that each and every member of this House and the committee should tread carefully when dealing with the issue of the Imperial family. Anymore rash actions could result in internal and national strife, civil war, and possible invasion by fraternal, yet foreign powers from Southern Seleya. As we wish to avoid such conflict and disaster, we urge patience and prudence.

And on the issue of the Union Nationale not being at the table. We apologize. However, our party is currently holding a convention in 6 months and party town halls before then, to ensure that the Union Nationale has a position we can take to the Commission.

Merci."

Defence Minister van Kampsch: "disarmament is a necessity"

Minister of Defence Saartje van Kampsch (SLL - 44) has made an enthousiastic speech during the previous Chamber meeting of the Assemblée nationale: "As Minister of Defence I feel responsible for our Armée nationale. These men, these women, Mr. Speaker, are willing to fight for our soil. For our freedoms. For our families. How can a government tolerate that somewhere out there parties manage paramilitary forces? This remains a mystery to me. During the minor turbulent time following the fall of the monarchy parts of the army disbanded, reorganized - it was a 'struggle'. Yes, I would call it that way. A struggle within. But our hearts are one again, nothing threatens our government from within. I see no need for paramilitary forces to exist. As Minister of Defence I feel responsible for those right-hearted militiamen our there. I stretch my hand out for them. Disarmament is a necessity. Mr. Speaker, I believe it is time this cabinet shows the unity it stands for and endorses a motion of distrust toward all paramilitaries. They should be allowed to be re-integrated into the Armée nationale."

With her speech, Kampsch targets the Armée de la Vendée, political commentators said, the armed wing of the Union Nationale. The Société Libertine Lourennaise itself tried to organize the "Force publique" some years ago but the plans were never executed. However, Capitain général (ad interim) Amadis Jamyn, himself a former army officer, was given the post of Party Speaker afterwards.

Image
Amadis Jamyn doesn't want to make "the ultimate sacrifice for the Republic"

Amadis Jamyn (SLL - 51), Party Speaker of the Libertine Club, has said that although monarchist parties seizing the government is "a fact we will have to deal with in the future - nay, a fact we are struggling with already" the Libertine Club will not "be seduced to demanding the ultimate sacrifice of citizens for the continuing existence of the Republic."

Jamyn, a strong Republican at heart, thereby denounces claims made earlier this week by political commentators that the Libertine Club might be preparing itself in secret for a possible military struggle should the imperial family be helped to power again by a variety of monarchist parties now active in the Republic. "Our policy is that of quiet strength. It is our being at ease with things that will bring us victory in the end. We are against all bloodshed."

During his time as a military officer in the Armée nationale Amadis Jamyn was confronted with atrocities in colonial territories and during his experience as a humanitaran affairs liaison officer at the staff headquarters. After his honorful resignation he has supported the Ligue pour la Paix (Peace League).

Revue Diplomatique: "Jamyn Telegram" gives permission to "answer hostile activity"

Official International Journal of the Société Libertine Lourennaise

Image
Members of the Force Publique in St Andre, where its headquarters is located

General Captain of the Public Force Amadis Jamyn (SLL - 55) has made clear in a telegram that any hostile activity from the Armée de la Vendée should be given an "answer".

Since a couple of months the Société Libertine has decided to revitalize its earlier plans to found a "Force Publique". The party critized the unwillingness to disband the Armée de la Vendée, which is controlled by government parties and which it considers a private paramilitary organization. Those supportive of the AV say Lourenne is without a national army, but the Société Libertine denies that and declares that the Armée nationale still exists. The AV has its main base in Lourennais colonies in the south of the country, known as a bastion for monarchists eager to re-instore the former imperial Orléans-Vasser family to power and abolish the republic.

Therefore Amadis Jamyn, recently appointed Capitaine général of the Force Publique, ordered arms to be bought for what is to be a people's militia. He also started the process of drafting 40 000 men and women. However, the monarchist government answered to this (legal) activity with a grossly exagerated public show of power. It claims it fields several aircraft carriers and numerous heavily equipped ships to bloccade the coast of Lourenne (for which, in the case of the Armée de la Vendée, no legitimacy exists).

Jamyn further stressed the need for a peaceful solution of the existing tension. "We are willing to talk with the monarchists, but we deem it fair that if they dare not face us unarmed, they understand our motives. The Société Libertine sees no purpose in buying military graded material. This is really about a people's militia. Let's leave this matter be, and focus on negotiations - about the monarchy in the first place."

Premier Ministre appoints Immanuel as adviser
October 2856

Premier Ministre Claude Antoine Gabriel appointed Prince Immanuel to his advisory committee today, making him a permanent fixture in the Premier's Office. Gabriel will consult the Prince on all matters related to the future restoration of the monarchy, which also serves to give the young Pretender valuable experience in statecraft and policymaking. No word yet on the potential significance of such an appointment, but it is believed that the monarchist government will run Immanuel in the presidential race in two years, paving the way for the eventual restoration.

Statement from the Office of the Premier Ministre
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

It has been deemed necessary, in these unstable times, to deploy the Armée de la Vendée in order to quell any hostile force against Lourenne and the caretakers of the Southern Territories. Much of the equipment of the national army has been transferred to the Vendée in the interests of restoring constitutional monarchy in the country. What remains of the national army, which is still under the control of the monarchist government of Lourenne, now has been reduced to border patrols and the protection of important public buildings within Lourenne proper (i.e. excluding the Southern Territories).

Premier Ministre Claude Antoine Gabriel urges the Société Libertine to accept the restoration of Immanuel to his ceremonial role as Emperor of all Lourenne, so that this situation may be diffused. Upon restoration, the Government proposes the gradual harmonization of the remaining national army with that of the Vendée, the integration of the Governments of Lourenne and of the Southern Territories of Orléans and Vasser, the normalization of all relations between monarchists and republicans, and the granting of amnesty to all those deemed hostile to the Emperor's majesty.

Young Lord Dunn adopted by Their Imperial Majesties, Assemblée nationale to name Dunn as Heir and Successor to the Throne
April 2867

The Royal House has announced today that Lord Nathaniel Hugh Kay Dunn, 2nd Duke of Ville-Nord, will be first in line to the throne. Lord Dunn, who is 17, had been secretly adopted 10 years ago by HIM Immanuel I and his wife Jeanne when the 1st Duke of Ville-Nord, their closest and most trusted friend, died in an automobile accident. This announcement today came as a surprise to many, however, public opinion polls show that 90% of the population is trilled to have Lord Dunn as the future Emperor of Lourenne, who is already a popular figure in Lourennais society. Others in line to the Throne have stated that they have no interest in dealing with the affairs of the State and wish to stay out of public life.

Following the announcement by the Royal House, Prime Minister Charest stated today that the Government will be making the succession official by declaring Lord Dunn the Crown Prince of Lourenne through legislation.

Estados Confederados de Lourenne

Supporters of the Partido Nacional Democrático (Democrats) were in huge numbers today outside of Lourenne's capital as Isabelle II fled the country this early morning. The Democrats were swept in office as many citizens were growing discontent with the current Lourennian government. The country has seen little stability since its days as the "Free Republic of Lourenne" when it was a beacon of responsible government that catered to the rights of citizens. However, since 2704 the nation has been mostly under the vassalage of the House of Orleans-Vassar. Under their leadership the 15% of Lourennians of Rildanorian French Ancestry have experienced many benefits and are often considered to be of the upper class of society. Now the time has changed and a new leadership has appeared in Lourenne.

They have been labelled as the "Confederados" by many in the media but just who are these men? The remaining percent of the population of Lourenne have been classified as "Mixtec Natives" in census logs. Most of them by now have mixed with the Lourennian of Rildanorian origin. They form the majority population of Lourenne but have never been given the chance to rule themselves but instead have relied on the Orleans-Vassar family. These Confederates forming the Partido Nacional Democrático (National Democrat Party) ran in Lourenne's first free elections in many decades winning 288 seats out of a possible 300. With the huge support of many citizens throughout Lourenne and with the support of the National Congress they have severed all ties with Rildanor:

The necessity of self-preservation, therefore, now decrees our eternal political separation.

We, therefore, the delegates with plenary powers of the people of Lourenne, in solemn convention assembled, appealing to a candid world for the necessities of our condition, do hereby resolve and declare, that our political connection with the Rildanorian nation has forever ended, and that the people of Lourenne do now constitute a free, Sovereign, and independent republic, and are fully invested with all the rights and attributes which properly belong to independent nations; and, conscious of the rectitude of our intentions, we fearlessly and confidently commit the issue to the decision of the Supreme arbiter of the destinies of nations.

And so, the Confederate States of Lourenne has been established. The States of Lourenne which consist of Haboves, New Kreshar, Kreshar, Alvium, and Kundir have agreed to form a Confederation on the basis that they will retain a set amount of their sovereignty. Although many have called for a Republic this may not happen for some time. Antonio Gamarra, was voted by the Congress to be the President of the Confederacy.

Talks of Republic Silenced

There have been rumours that Antonio Gamarra, the first Presidente of the Confederate States supports a more centralised government which will conflict with the State rights. Presidente Gamarra has been on record saying that he has no intention to support such a thing unless the people support it. Lourenne is currently in a very fragile state with the recent expulsion of the Orleans-Vassar leadership. Although, Presidente Gamarra currently has the support of the people the support of the National Congress may be on thin ice. If a State feels that Gamarra will push for a republic then all hell could break loose in Lourenne with each state threatening to leave the Confederation. Also, there has been reports of Rildanorian battle ships outside of the coast of Lourenne and so Gamarra currently has his hands full.
