New Constitution Revealed to the Public
Marks the End of the Interim Government, Solidifies Democratic Reforms

Governor-General Emin Burak after a speech at Franz-Haus

Kanal Alexander, Barmenia- Governor-General Emin Burak today revealed the final draft of a new national constitution, marking the beginning of the end of the interim government that has ruled the country for the past five years. "Today, we celebrate the beginning of a new era of open, responsible, stable and democratic government," Burak said at a speech on the steps of Franz-Haus, which houses the Government and serves as the royal palace. "I am certain that the people of the great Commonwealth of Barmenia can unite to move forward, can walk together to create a brighter future, and join to ensure that the dream of our Barmenian Renaissance shall never die."

The new constitution formally establishes the country as a constitutional monarchy headed by Alexander I of Hulstria, who shall be known as the Shah of Barmenia. It gives all executive power to the Governor-General, who is to be directly elected by the people, and ends the Chancellorship. The Bundestag is to be replaced by a new 700-member legislature to be called the Meclisi, and the judiciary is to be led a Royal Supreme Court. Also in the Constitution are provisions that ban racial and gender segregation and protects the freedoms of speech and religion.

The Governor-General also announced that the new Shah, as well as the Governor-General of Greater Hulstria, are to visit Barmenia in the coming months.

Shah Makes First Visit to Barmenia
Alexander meets with Governor-General Burak, Encourages Government to Keep Moving Forward

People in Kanal Alexander crowd the street to get a glimpse of Shah Alexander

Kanal Alexander, Barmenia- The newly crowned Shah Alexander of Barmenia was meet by enthusiastic crowds in the Barmenian capital today, as he made his first visit to his new kingdom. "It is on behalf of a proud and thankful nation that I welcome Shah Alexander home," Governor-General Emin Burak said today. "He is the inspiration for our great renaissance and reawakening, and this visit gives the great people of Barmenia the opportunity to show their appreciation."

The Shah, more widely known as Emperor Alexander I of Hulstria, landed in at Kanal Alexander International Airport around 10:30 this morning and was greeted by Mr. Burak and members of the Barmenian Military Honor Guard. He then took the ten-minute drive through the Hulstrian quarter of the city to Franz-Haus, which houses the Government and is the official royal palace, and was greeted by thousands of onlookers who lined the streets.

Along for the ride was Hulstrian Governor-General Friedrich Ewald II, who offered encouragement to the new Barmenian government. Also there was Tokuro Tanemoto, the Foreign Minister of Greater Hulstria, and Crown Princess Roberta Lusk, the consort of Godric, Crown Prince of Hulstria, who has been recognized for her work on behalf of the nation's poor, helping to provide them with better quality healthcare and education.

The events of today and the last few years are a remarkable contrast to the condition of Barmenia only five years ago, when the nation was under the strict control of communist parties and absentee leaders. Since the crowning of Alexander as Shah in 2806, analysts have praised what has been called the Barmenian Renaissance, with both major political and cultural changes occuring in a very short period of time. The major party in the nation, the Barmenian League, has led the liberalisation of the economy and reintroduced democracy.

Tonight, there will be an official state dinner for the Hulstrian delegation, and this Friday they will move on to Franzstadt, the largest city in Barmenia, and then on to Ekde. The delegation will depart on Saturday for Greater Hulstria with Mr. Burak and Foreign Minister Burcu Altay, where they will also be treated to a state dinner on behalf of the Hulstrian people.

Mehmet: 'Restoration of Confidence' Necessary

Ertem Mehmet, the expected BKP candidate for Governor General at the next elections, today spoke to supporters on the need for constructive dialogue with Hulstria and the Dundorfic minorities, in order to avoid the return to extremist politics:

"Nobody wants to see the far right or left once again dominating politics, however it is at critical moments in our nations history such as this that, if the correct course of action is not taken, that their rise becomes a reality. It is important to remember, however, that many of the extreme 'solutions' proposed are in reaction to genuine problems facing Barmenistan.

The progress made to return political stability to Barmenistan has come at the cost of excluding ordinary Barmenians from everyday politics. The Dundorfic minorities dominance of government has had achievements, however its inability to engage with the majority of the population means what it can achieve is limited. As a result of this it has joined a long line of governments in failing to deal with the remnants of the slave trade in northern Barmenistan, a problem requiring tough measures the current regime simply does not have the ability to enforce.

The feeling that the Government simply does not have the power to extend stability to all of Barmenistan is well shown on any election day. In the last election, just 15% of the population viewed voting as a worthwhile course of action. This type of apathy can only be dealt with by a serious effort to restore Barmenians belief that the central government can dictate actions outside of Murdhe. Measures must be taken to ensure that minorities cannot gain an unequal say in Government. Political trickery must be stamped out, and the divergence of resources towards grandstanding must be stopped until every Barmenian enjoys peace and security. And most importantly, it must be made clear that the future of Barmenistan, under a monarchy or as a republic, is in the hands of the Barmenian people, and not the decision of the Shah or Governor General."

Later, Mehmet attended a meeting with former minister of Education and descendent of the Caliphs of the Barmeian Caliphate Azi Bünyamin, who announced his support for Mehmets bid for Governor General.

Eslamék-Judék Krsyjogad Prta Formed

This new party has been formed to unite Muslims and Jews against the outside forces that wish to neutralize us. They believe that Hulstrians are trying to impose their rule over this great nation and that they plan to stop it by putting a Barmenian monarch in power. This new monarch shall join Barmenistan into a quadarchial union with the Talmorian Malikta, the Beiteynuese Malka, and the pretender to the Kafuri Sultanate. Until such time as Kafuristan returns the Sultan to power, the Sultan will have little power in the quadarchy.

Broadcast Internationally by the Royal Kafuri Company and Cranberry News Channel.

Edit:
Faulty News Reports

Ignore the earlier news, we recieved faulty news from an unreliable source. We are looking in to who gave us this false report on the new party.

Wrntgenzi blocks army mobilisation

Following the passage of an EJKP sponsored bill to authorise military mobilisation in Northern Barmenistan, Defence Minister Sagzi Wrntgenzi has refused to deploy military forces to the region. The bill, designed to tackle drug smuggling and slave trading that decades of unstable goverments and high ethnic tensions have allowed to flourish, has been criticised by some as a heavy handed solution to the problem.

Speaking only briefly to announce his decision, Wrntgenzi stated: "After consultation with the Jezmrjkai, I have decided not to mobilise forces as requested by the Meslis. I do not deny the problems faced in much of Northern Barmenistan, however they are civilian problems that must be met with a civilian solution."

BKP in Narrow Election Victory
Party gains 32 seat majority in Meslis

The Brmék Krsyiji Prta had much to celebrate last night as it became Barmenistans largest party for the first time in its history. The closely fought election was the first Barmenian election to have a turnout greater than 50% in over sixty years.

Ertem Mehmet will also be pleased at his re-election to the position of Jezmrjkai, after facing of his first serious challenge to the role. In the previous election Mehmet had enjoyed the support of both the BKP and the EJKP, leaving no serious challenge to his election. However increasing disputes between the two parties, most prominently over the instability in Northern Barmenistan, and Mehmets apparent agreement with the BKPs solutions, led the EJKP to endorse Erol Goeker Al-Quimoték as candidate for Jezmrjkai. Mehmet was able to see off this challenge, winning 54% of the votes cast. Election tactics were not without controversy, with some critics claiming that attacks on Al-Quimotéks Talmorian nationality extended to outright racism at points during the campaign.

BKP Meslis leader Halil Murat has pledged the party will begin work immediately on its promise to deal with drug smuggling, slave trading and protection rackets operating in the country: "From day one we will be working to fulfil our promises to the people. Already we have the legislative agenda set to deal with the most pressing issues as soon as the Meslis reconvenes- increasing police powers, tougher sentences for gang members, tighter border controls and straightening out the police force and the courts. We will not shy away from targeting anyone or anything until these people are dealt with."

'Measures Will be Taken' Against Indrala, Assures Foreign Minister

Image
Fundamentalist groups have been very successful in mobilising followers and bringing the issue to public attention

Following weeks of protests aimed at criticising the reported extra-judicial executions of muslim extremists in Indrala and the Barmenian Governments apparent lack of reaction to the reported deaths, fundamentalist groups have hailed a significant victory after the Meslis passed a near-unanimous resolution condemning the Indralan regime. The vote is seen as putting pressure on a government largely committed to staying out of foreign affairs. Foreign Minister Halil Murat spoke briefly after the vote, stating only that "All possible measures to change the course of the Indralan regime are being considered."

Mehmet Praises Indrala as a 'bulwark against Imperialism'
Government continues to deny arms sales while announcing support for Gekokujō Regime

In a move seen by many as an attempt to end speculation over allegations of arms sales to Gekokujō rebels during the Ran Pan regime, the government has given its first official backing of the Gekokujō government, as well as supporting its claim to Hanzan.

Jezmrjkai Levent Mehmet praised the Gekokujō: "Their determination and national pride, both of which they have used to rebuild Indrala after its near ruin at the hands of fascist regimes, now commits them to defend the Gao-Showan people in Hanzan, where the imperialists of Zardugal and Luthori continue to oppress and murder them in their thousands. The brutal history of these empires- of their betrayal and subjugation of the Muslims of Talmoria and Beiteynu- are well known in Barmenistan. The Gekokujō right to defend their people from the same oppression will always find our support."

When asked whether he thought support of the Gekokujō would strain relations with Hulstria, who have been critical of the regime, Mehmet rejected the idea: "Two friends are allowed to disagree from time to time. The bond between Hulstria and Barmenistan has stretched back decades and won't be hurt by one or two differences in foreign policy."

On the issue of arms sales, Mehmet refused to be drawn into a discussion. The accusations, coming mostly from human rights groups citing leaked information from the Defence Ministry, claim that weaponry and funding was made available to the Gekokujō in an effort to topple General Ran Pan, whose war against the ILAI the Barmenian government had repeatedly criticised. The government has thus far denied all accusations.

Finally, after repeated questions over whether the Governments support of the Hanzan claim could extend to military deployment, Mehmet responded only briefly: "We have not spoken to the Indralan government on such an issue."
