Grand Assembly Passes Legal Reforms

September 2952: The Grand Assembly with the Selucian government's consent passed a Monarchical reform stating that only Selucian Catholics would be allowed to assume the Throne. Non-Selucian Catholic Royal Family members can continue to hold their respective titles under the newly passed laws. The law passed by a unanimous Catholic government was done largely out of concern for Muslims taking the throne. Islamist in Barmenia were largely apathetic as the current Barmenian Monarch Rebeca I is not allowed to be photographed or make appearances in Barmenia. The newly passed law makes it clear that the Monarch is subject to the Grand Assembly.

We may be a Monarchy, but I haven't noticed a difference between this year from last year. Everything remains the same.

Barmenian Joint Chiefs Appointed

June 2592: The Grand Assembly has come to the aid of the Queen's Regent by authorizing a new Joint Chiefs of Staff for the Barmenian military. After decades of apathy, the military will receive:

Barmenian Navy Admiral: Henry L. Phillips

Barmenian Marine Corp. General: Connor C. Gould

Barmenian Army General: Louie C. Adams

Barmenian Navy Admiral: Nicholas C. Fleming

Barmenian Air Force General: Harry Z. Spencer

Barmenian Marine Corp. General: Oliver M. Singh

Barmenian Joint Chiefs

Political observers have taken note that only Christian Artanian Barmenians (Whites) were selected to be Joint Chiefs with the exception of General Singh, an immigrant from Indrala. Shadow Premier Peter L. Marshall, who proposed the bill, downplayed this significance stating that all those appointed were either four or three star generals or admirals. Critics point out that although this is true, it is also true that some of the Joint Chiefs were former Selucian military officers. The bill also mandated that the Barmenian's military capabilities be recorded in the archives.

Supreme Court Established

June 2592: After decades of Islamic Sharia rule, an official Supreme Court of Barmenia has been appointed by the Grand Assembly. The Supreme Court numbers nine members who will be appointed by the Queen's Regent in the future. Five Circuit Courts and Five State Supreme Courts were also established. The appointed justices are:

Mohammad C. Crawford (65)

Gabriel N. Connolly (68)

Chief Justice Ethan A. Richardson (55)

Lewis C. Jarvis (61)

Alfie E. Miller (73)

Thomas C. Herbert (69)

Alfie S. Mahmood (58)

Mohammed M. Knowles (63)

Megan T. Hayes (66)

Minority groups decried the fact that only one woman was appointed while Radical Islamists were displeased a woman was made a justice at all. The Catholic government worked to pander to different groups by appointing three Muslim Barmenian Judges and a woman. However, the majority of justices are Artanian Selucians including Chief Justice Ethan A. Richardson thus preserving the Grand Assembly's control over the Judicial Branch. Justice Alfie E. Miller is expected to retire in 7 years time in which case a replacement will be nominated by the HOS and approved by the Grand Assembly.

Barmenian Special Election of 2592

August 2592: The Libertarian Catholic Party won the Queen's Regent, control of the Grand Assembly, and five Governorships in an epic landslide similar to the Christian Democratic Party's landslide victory in 2946. This time however, voter turnout was significantly higher giving the politically popular LCP legitimacy and mandate. Barmenians approved of the LCP permissive views on social and economic issues. In addition, the LCP was given a significant boost by the disbanding of the Conservative Democratic Party in July 2592. Facing imminent defeat in the December 2592 election, the CDP endorsed and then joined the LCP ranks creating a Grand Coalition. Queen's Regent Peter L. Marshall, the only one allowed to create a cabinet, will keep the existing cabinet which includes several Conservative Democrats.

LCP Dominates in 2592

The LCP Queen's Regent candidate Peter L. Marshall won with 99% of the vote, the LCP won 101 out of 101 Grand Assembly seats, and five governships out of five. The new Barmenian Civic Party and the Consumer Union were unable to muster more than 1% combined. The Barmenian Civic Party will be assigned four Lt. Governorships and the Consumer Union will be assigned one.

We had hoped for a spirited campaign against our rival the Conservative Democrats, but when they announced they were disbanding to join our party we were overjoyed. We will work hard to unite all Barmenians.

Governors

Ikegaru - 2nd Governor: Matilda L. Sharpe

Sisula - 2nd Governor: Zak E. Collins

Uthena - 2nd Governor:Natasha T. Hutchinson

Arakim - 2nd Governor: Elliot S. Hewitt

Murdhild - 2nd Governor: Jasmine A. Savage

Muslim parties boycotted the election citing women and infidels being allowed to vote.

Al-Badaran-Selucian Tensions

Barmenian officials are reacting cautiously to war threats made by both nations concerning the death of an Al-Badaran ambassador. As of 2591, the Barmenian fleet has been guarding Selucian waters and airspace from any possible Al-Badaran attack. The fleet is not permitted to attack Al-Badara territory. Queen's Regent Peter L. Marshall who proposed the Defense Pledge believes that the presence of the Barmenian fleet has prevented war and preserved peace in the region.

Meanwhile, Radical Islamist have been protesting every other week against the Barmenian defense of Selucia. The Grand Mufti has requested that Muslims be calm and not jump to conclusions. Due to Barmenian's libertarian government, Islamic protesters have not been intimidated or outright beaten by police forces. Negotiations to end the conflict are ongoing.

Muslim Opposition Party Forms

The Grm Wrzy Kaliifà has sprung up once again in Barmenia in the hopes they may capture a majority of the Muslim vote in Barmenia. Although highly visible to the public, the party lacks the campaign funds of the Libertarian Catholic Party. The Grm Wrzy Kaliifà's goal is to bring back the Caliph and end the Selucian Monarchy. Despite such fiery rhetoric, the government has not imprisoned the Grm Wrzy Kaliifà for treason. Since the party formed after the special election of 2592, they will remain at 0 seats until the next election in 2598.

Cities Renamed

September 2953: Paying homage to both Muslims and the Selucian Monarchy, the LCP government has proposed that Nieuwerijk be renamed to New Mecca and Heerlijkheid be renamed to Victoria. LCP leaders had complained that the pronunciation of the cities were difficult. With the renaming of these cities, the original Barmenian language will have been faded out from the record. The Tourism Minister Andrew Harris believes that the renaming of Nieuwerijk to New Mecca will dramatically increase Muslim pilgrims to the nation. Conservative Islamists are outraged that the LCP government is renaming cities for commercial gain. The renaming of Heerlijkheid to Victoria is to give honor to the House of Victoria, the current Royal Family of Barmenia. After the renaming of these cities which will be officially recognized in May 2954, the LCP will begin construction of Mosques in New Mecca and a Royal Palace in Victoria. The Royal Palace should be completed by the time Queen Rebeca takes office presumably in 2965.

International Monarchist League Treaty Signed

April 2593: With unanimous approval, the IML treaty was signed by Barmenia. The signing of the treaty expresses Barmenian's desire to be recognized by the IML as a true hereditary Monarchy. The treaty was proposed and signed despite warnings by the Aldurian Imperial People's Party that the signing of the treaty would not guarantee acceptance into the IML. Members of the IML are leaning towards a return of the Barmenian Caliph, but Barmenian Royalists argue that the Muslim Caliph was overthrown eight centuries ago and is no longer relevant in Barmenian politics.

Support Your Brother!
Civil Disobediance urged in support of Badaran war effort

As our brothers in faith take to war to crush the enemy in Selucia, it is every good Muslims duty to support their struggle. Selucian expansionism relys on weakness and disunity among the Majatran nations; it's evil actions are inspired with every day the peoples of Majatra do not rise up to stomp this monstrous nation out of existence. We in Barmenistan must not fall to this decedent and slothful way of thinking. The Selucian devils have reached our beloved homeland, and are attempting to corrupt our good and pure. But we should not despair at their actions! We are at the front line, and the opportunity to kill the Selucian monster is ours. Remember: every Selucian soldier forced to our soil is one less for the Badaran to kill; every dud bomb created grants our brothers another advance.

Ekrem: 'Coalition of Naturals' will be sought

Semih Ekrem has announced that the Grm Wrzy Kaliifà will seek to form a coalition with other native populations of Barmenistan. Promising efforts would be made to meet with various Jewish and Ebionite religious leaders over the coming months, Ekrem expressed confidence that their support could be gained. "Those who remember the last rule of the Caliphs may be far and few between nowadays, but all native Barmenian populations know that it's support came from more than just the muslim population for a reason. The guarantee of Meslis seats to religious and ethnic minorities- minorities who in the past have been persecuted and vilified- ensured that their voice would always be heard, and that no one group could entirely dominate the government. The foreign occupation we face today only highlights the need for such guarantees, and they are guarantees only we can give."

Barmenia Prepares for Yishelem Civil War

February 2954: The Pansocialist Party of Zion has proposed and passed a resolution stating the independence of the region Padrilka, a Yishelem region that borders the Barmenian State. Although the legality of the resolution is questionable, Queen's Regent Peter L. Marshall has sent Barmenian Army forces to the border to keep imminent civil war from spilling over into Barmenia. Refugees from the conflict attempting to flood into Barmenia are to be quickly deported back to Yishelem.

We will not allow any incursion by any side onto our territory, airspace, or naval waters. The factions in Yishelem should be aware that what happens in their country often affects us. We take a neutral stance in this conflict and will not aid either side.
Queen's Regent Peter L. Marshall.

Barmenian Rescue Mission in Padrilka

January 2955: The Barmenian Army has been authorized by Queen Regent Peter L. Marshall and the Grand Assembly to enter the Independent Democratic Republic of Padrilka in order to ensure the safety of Barmenian citizens and safeguard Barmenian assets. The Army has been directed to enter Padrilka on the eastern most side on the Quo'gon border in order to avoid enemy ships on the Padrilka coast. As of this report, neither Luthori or Yishelem troops have fired on the Barmenian army and no causalities have been reported. Barmenian helicopters are being used to collect Barmenian citizens and bring them across the border. The Barmenian Tourism Ministry has requested that all Barmenian citizens in Padrilka as well as Yishelem in general move back to Barmenia for their own safety.

To His Royal Majesty, King George III of Luthori,

It is our understanding that Luthori has a great interest in Yishelem including keeping the nation state together in one piece. The Independence movement of Padrilka must be quite an affront to your foreign policy goals. We are not taking sides in this conflict, we are not assisting either side, and we make no judgements as to who is at fault in this conflict. However, there are Barmenian citizens at risk by this conflict between Your royal government in Yishelem and the Pansocialist Party in Padrilka. With this in mind, it should be reasonable to consider that Barmenia is an injured party in this affair, an affair that we had nothing to do with. It is not our mission to seize territory in Padrilka, but to simply transport Barmenian citizens and whatever they can carry back to the Barmenian border. I would think that if your subjects were in the same position, you would do the same. Our troops have been instructed not to engage unless engaged first. We are optimistic that this process will only take six months to complete.

In addition, we will further point out the political independence of the Queen and her Regent in Barmenia. The Queen's Regent is an elected official who may or may not be allied with the Queen herself. The Queen is only 7 years old and cannot be expected to be accountable for the actions of the Barmenian Regent. Nor can the Selucian Royal Family be accountable either as the Barmenian Regent is politically independent of them as well. Although Barmenia and Selucia have close ties, there is a distinction in our leaderships. As for the IML, we do not believe we are violating the spirit of the IML agreement. Just allow us to do our work and we will be on our merry way. It is I, the Queen's Regent who is completely accountable for the success or failure of this mission.

Sincerely,
Queen's Regent Peter L. Marshall

Barmenia Raises Defense Budget

January 2955: Due to large budget surpluses in the budget, the Grand Assembly has increased military spending by a factor of 8 to meet the demands of the Barmenian Rescue Mission. The military budget for Barmenia now stands at 830 Billion BAR. Small cuts were made to other sectors in order to afford the large expenditure. The Barmenian budget is still running a surplus much to the approval of Barmenian economists.

Barmenia Withdraws from IML Treaty

January 2955: After repeated failure to be admitted to the IML party organization, complete and total silence from the IML on Barmenia's candidacy, and rumors of hostility the Grand Assembly has decided to withdraw from the IML treaty and cease any attempts to become members of the IML. Queen's Regent Peter L. Marshall assured the pro-Selucian government that no changes would be made to the Barmenian Monarchy.

The Caliph and Radical Islam will never return to Barmenia. We enter into an age of prosperity, technological advancement, scientific intrigue, and libertarian values.

OOC: Obviously you failed to understand me. The Padrilkan border is under the control of Yishelem and Luthorian forces and there is no way whatsoever our troops would have let you in. For Barmenistani troops to enter Padrilka would have necessarily meant fighting Luthorian troops because they would have shot at you as soon as you'd tried to cross the border. Now I understand that it could have been an honest mistake but that's the way things work. As it is, if you still want to invade despite what I just told you, we can talk about it with the Commonwealth parties and the Axis Alliance which would come to the aid of the Commonwealth and Luthori.

A Wake-up Call to Majatra
Selucian expansionism continues across Majatra

As was predicted in this paper, the Selucian monsters hunger for new territory and people to subjegate has once again brought violence to the Majatran continent. The people of Yishalem and Beiteynu now find themself under assault, with our beloved homeland being used as a base of operation for the Selucian generals. We re-iterate our call for all the nations of Majatra to recognise and deal with the Selucian threat before it subjegates more of our continents people. It is an expansionistic power, one that will not be satisfied until it has spread its influence throughout our continent.

OOC: I disagree as there are no automatic orders by Luthori to shoot anyone crossing the border which would obviously cause an international incident. Your argument is also unreasonable by virtue of Padrilka being in a state of civil war. How am I to believe that Luthori and Yishelem troops can keep Barmenian armies out of Padrilka when you can't even pound one region into submission. As such, it is reasonable to assume that the entire region is in a state of chaos including its borders. We are also in disagreement on the nature of the invasion; as we see it as a rescue mission. I do however see this as a unique case as the pansocialists began this RP and then failed to finish it. I will also point out that the civil war was passed a year before we intervened which means that your government and the Luthori government had one year and 8 months to come up with an RP plan and did not. So, I believe my ignorance of your military power in that region is justified. In any case, Barmenian is withdrawing and you can decide whether or not you wish to make this a real event.

Then it is settled, since you dont want to abide by the rules, your "invasion" never occurred and the whole RP is null and void.
