VanDerWall Elected Chairman of the HSU, despite LaFollette's Concerns About His Ties to Westwheel-Cohen Bank
-by Jon Jones

For the first time in the history of the modern HSU, the leader was chosen on the first ballot. VanDerWall, who married into the Westwheel family, is a Sardani rights activist and union leader in the Hosian Federation of Trade Unions. His election marks the end of the Hosian Reactionary Party's dominance in the HSU.

During his acceptance speech, VanDerWall pledged to support infrastructure projects, particularly in the south, in order to make it more competitive in the modern era. He also pledged an end to austerity measures proposed by the current Government

PRESSURE ON ELIJAH SPRING TO STEP DOWN BY SP MILITANTS

Elijah Spring is under pressure to resign after his government announced a fresh round of austerity measures, including raising the basic rate of VAT to 23% and cutting spending by another 15bn MRD.
“We already have a surplus, these measures are pointless!” said Holly Gilmore while leaving Parliament, “we can focus on paying off the national debt later” she added.
At least 12 MPs from the SP are expected to rebel over the new measures. In response, the Prime Minister has threatened to expel MPs who vote against the new measures from the Socialist Group in Parliament. He has also threatened to resign as SP leader and as PM if the budget fails to pass and to call snap elections. Some on the party's left-wing have called for a vote of no confidence in Elijah Spring and for him to resign as Socialist leader. Economists have also warned that this could lead to a reduction in purchasing power among working-class families and that the budget cuts are harming growth

Manningham-Buller exposed lying about army record

Image
A young Frederick Manningham-Buller back in his ̶a̶r̶m̶y̶ butler years

During the election campaign, National Movement chairman Frederick Manningham-Buller made much of the time he spent in the armed forces during the 4350s, speaking about how "the army made me the man I am today", "I went into the army a boy and came out a man" and "when you've served in the army, you love your country so much, it's hard to explain to anyone who hasn't had the same experience".

An investigation by HateWatch has now revealed, after months and months of research, that Manningham-Buller's claim to have served in the army is in fact not true.

It is true that he worked for 8 months as a butler for General Richard Billingsgate, who was then a senior member of the General Staff. He also apparently sometimes accompanied the General on army business, working as an aide. However, he was never a member of the army and never wore an army uniform, although he was bound by the Official Secrets Act during the course of his employment.

Manningham-Buller has responded as follows:

Was I technically a member of the armed forces? Well, how do you expect me to remember after all of these years? All I remember, and all that counts, is that as far as I was concerned - then and now - I saw myself as being with the armed forces. That's what counts. In my heart, I was serving the army, serving my country and protecting the Mordusian people, and I'm incredibly proud to have done it.

Manningham-Buller also denied HateWatch's statement that he was "just a butler", insisting "I assure you I was doing much more than that, I was involved in some very high-level and dangerous stuff, but I can't talk about it because of the Official Secrets Act".

The National Movement chairman is facing a backlash over these revelations from some of his own supporters, a number of whom come from families with army backgrounds. He is also facing ridicule in the press and in Parliament, where a motion is being discussed to change his nameplate to "Mr. Butler".

New center-right political party founded

The newly founded Progress Party will contest the next Mordusian General election. Founder Alexis Siegfried had this to say:

“People who love freedom and responsibility in this country have lacked a sensible political alternative for a long time. So I started one. We are still rather small at this stage - but I assure you we are working hard to recruit potential candidates to stand for office on the PP ticket, all across Mordusia.

The Hosian parties as well as the National Movement are all a bit too statist for my taste. But we are ready to work with any Mordusian to bring an end to socialism in this country. Mordusia needs politicians who dare to view ordinary citizens as responsible adults. Adults - who can take care of themselves - and have no need of politicians to make decisions for them in their everyday lives.

But when the government needs to be there for us - to protect us from crime or to defend our borders - it has to be strong. We cherish our Mordusian national pride and our Hosian values, who are the bedrock of freedom in this country.

We are neoliberals, but we are not libertarians. We are a party of realism and common sense politics.”
