Lola Whitworth announces referendum on restoration of the monarchy
14 February 5361

President Lola Whitworth has announced a referendum on the restoration of the monarchy in Mordusia. The referendum was a campaign pledge for Whitworth when she ran for the presidency earlier this year. In a landslide victory, Whitworth won the presidency and her party won over two-thirds of the seats in the national legislature.

Whitworth and her deputy leader Arthur Wright founded the Conservative People’s Party as a successor to the dissolved Progressive Conservative Party. In the recent election, the new party benefitted from the collapse of the governing Free Democratic Party. After a corruption scandal emerged last year, the party dissolved and early elections were called.

Details of the referendum, including the date, have not yet been confirmed. The government is not united on the issue of the monarchy. As part of her election manifesto, Whitworth promised that members of her party would be free to campaign for either side. At present, no senior ministers have indicated they intend to support the republican campaign though.

Mordusian president Lola Whitworth returns from Luthorian visit
4 March 5362

Following three productive days in Luthori, President Lola Whitworth has returned to Mordusia. Whitworth chose to visit Luthori in her first foreign visit to recognise the long shared history between the two countries. During the visit, she met with the Luthorian prime minister Emily Harrington to discuss increased economic and political cooperation between the two countries.

The most publicised aspect of the visit was Whitworth’s audience with Empress Elizabeth. As a sign of respect, the Empress chose not to use her official title “Queen of Mordusia” throughout the duration of the president’s visit. According to reports, the women are said to have discussed Mordusia’s prospects in the upcoming Eternal test cricket series against Luthori. Both were visibly disappointed when aides informed them they had run out of time for the audience.

Throughout her visit, the president’s main aim was to establish the terms for a restoration of the monarchy in Mordusia. Since before her election last year, Whitworth has been clear that she is a monarchist and would support a restoration. Although it was widely understood Empress Elizabeth would be willing to accede to the throne, there were a number of details to be decided. With the visit concluded, a constitutional referendum is expected before the end of the year.

Details of upcoming constitutional referendum confirmed
          Rechtenburg, 27 May 5362

Mordusia’s government has confirmed the details of any upcoming referendum on a series of constitutional changes. Later this year, the country will vote on whether to approve the wide-ranging reforms. The most important change is the restoration of the monarchy under Holy Luthorian Empress Elizabeth of Orange-Villayn-Armstead. The reforms would also strengthen the office of the prime minister and introduce first-past-the-post voting for national elections.

Despite support from the government, a number of backbench members of the Conservative People’s Party have signalled their opposition to the proposed changes. The de facto leader of the republican cause within the party is Géraldine Rapace. In addition to opposing the return of the monarchy, Rapace has criticised the introduction of first-past-the-post. In line with opposition criticism, she claims the new system would disadvantage smaller parties.

New constitutional settlement approved in national referendum
22 August 5362

In a nationwide referendum held yesterday, Mordusian voters approved a series of constitutional reforms proposed by the government. The new constitutional settlement will be phased in across the rest of the current legislative term. The most significant change is the restoration of the monarchy. In official terms, Elizabeth of Orange-Villayn-Armstead will accede to the throne in a matter of weeks. Her formal coronation as Queen of Mordusia is expected next year.

Under the new constitution, the Queen will be represented by an elected Governor-General. The role will be primarily ceremonial. As part of the new system, Mordusia will adopt a system of government based on the Williamite model developed in Luthori. In this system, the prime minister is the leader of the executive branch of government and the chair of the cabinet.

With the constitutional question resolved in favour of monarchy, the government has developed a new set of priorities for the remainder of the legislative term. In line with a manifesto pledge, President Lola Whitworth has introduced a series of economic reforms that would deregulate parts of the Mordusian economy. As part of the reforms, foreign investors will be permitted to gain a majority share in Mordusian firms.

Final eight teams confirmed ahead of T20 Cricket World Cup in Mordusia
          Randworth, 6 March 5366

The qualification process has concluded ahead of the 5366 T20 Cricket World Cup. Host country Mordusia qualified for the tournament automatically alongside “invited guest” country Baltusia. With the final qualification matches finishing today, the six teams joining them at the tournament have been confirmed: Luthori, Malivia, Medina, Saridan, Tropica and Vascania.

According to pundits, the upcoming tournament is set to be the most competitive in its five-decade history. Esme Davies, a writer for the website no-run.lut, told Sportsbook, “In the past few years, we have seen Mordusia, Tropica and especially Vascania breaking the historic dominance of Luthori and Saridan in the 20-over format. Even the invited guest country Baltusia will stand a chance of progressing in this edition.”

In the course of the tournament, matches will be held at several cricket grounds in cities across Mordusia. The final is scheduled for 7 November at the 98,000-capacity Randworth Cricket Ground. Expectations for the home team are higher than any time since the tournament was created. Mordusia have only reached the final of the event on one previous occasion, when they last hosted the tournament in 5331. Luthori are the favourites to win the competition for the fifth time.

Vascania beat host country Mordusia to win first T20 World Cup
          Randworth, 7 November 5366

Vascania beat Mordusia by six wickets at Randworth Cricket Ground to win their first T20 World Cup. In a close final, Sumit Talavalakar’s unbeaten 84 was decisive as his side chased down 160 against the hosts. Vascania become only the third team to win the world’s premier T20 trophy. Mordusia suffer a heart-breaking second final defeat on home soil, after losing in the same ground to Luthori in 5331.

The eighth edition of the T20 World Cup began with a match between the same sides less than four weeks ago. On that occasion, the host country were victorious by 14 runs against a Vascanian team that did not include captain M. Radchakan. Both teams emerged from the group stage without any scares though. The major story was a historically poor performance by the Saridani team, who failed to win a single game.

Luthori and Tropica both finished on nine points in the other group. Luthori won the group on net run rate. The tournament’s most shocking result happened on the second day. An inspired Baltusian team beat Malivia by five wickets. Baltusia’s Luthori-born captain Edwin Hudson was player of the match. Rain denied the Malivian team the chance to avenge their defeat a week later.

Mordusia comfortably beat a disappointing Tropica in the first semi-final. A below-par total of 116 was chased down in less than 17 overs. The second semi-final was a fiercer contest. Commentator Ranjan Mudaliyar described it as a “historic moment” as Vascania defended a total of 137 to eliminate Luthori. By winning, the Vascanian side guaranteed there would be a new world champion for the first time in over four decades.

In the final, a strong opening partnership from Alexander Wood and Veer Padagavakar helped Mordusia hit 50 off only 24 balls. Radchakan’s strong bowling allowed Vascania to rebuild though. Mordusia eventually ended their innings 159-6. Talavalakar was brought to the crease earlier than he would have hoped with Vascania 16-1. Despite regular wickets falling, he ran hard to keep his side in the match. In the end, a boundary with the first ball of the final over brought the tournament to a conclusion.

Over the past three weeks, international 20-over cricket has changed. Vascania have broken the stranglehold on this competition established by Luthori and Saridan over half a century. Despite losing in the final once again, Mordusia have played their role too. Tonight’s final broke television viewership records for a domestic sporting event. The impact will be felt beyond this tournament.

February 5420:

Teezo's Mordusian Party Press Release

This is the our first and one of many party press releases we looking forward to releasing (see what I did there!) Our party is a serious party dedicated to bringing God back into the country, renewing our national spirit, and improving the conditions for hard working Mordusians. We have recently introduced legislation that nationalized certain industries such as energy and telecommunications, introduced a bill to bring back religion in the public sphere, and been in the works for a potential trade agreement with Baltusia. Our party is making way for a new Mordusia, a Mordusia for all Mordusians. Aboriginal Mordusians will be protected and allowed to live their own way without the government forcefully integrating them. Our party will introduce legislation to help support them and allow them to grow without assimilation. Stay tuned for more, because more is coming!
