Conservatives take over national Labour Party and rebrand it

After Labour achivbed a historic elction win in May the Labour Party has been taken over by Conservatives before coalition negotations have even started. East Bolton Labour Leader Tyler Delmont had national ambition and became a Senetor in May along with other conservatives atracted to the militarist party. After the results came in Delmont annunced he was challenging Hannah Lamb for the leadership as he said that the only reason Labour won the election was support from Conservative voters. Lamb denies this believing that Labour was able to create a grand coalition of voters with both factions being major parts of the party.

In June the leadership election results were in Delmont had won with 52% of the vote compaired to Lamb's 48%. This led to cheers from the right wing who now believe that they will be truly heard in parliament. This reult upset many social democratic voters of the party which caused many of activists to leave and join the Progressive Alliance. After his leadership win Delmont announced the new leadership would push for more privetisation, more gun rights and a though stance on immigration, throwing away all attempts at party unity. This led to prominant leaders such as Lamb became independents whilst others such as Zachary Wilkerson left politics all togther. This is a real shake-up in Likatonian politics as it is expected that the left wing dominance which has lasted so long will be no more and that competative elections between the left and right will start again.

As I won the leadership election, my party will push for an end of state dominace in the Likatonian economy, more protection of Likatonian citizens, a military this nation can be proud of and More chocie when it comes to healthcare and eduction. This new Conservative Labour Party wil push for these polices now that the socilaists have left us, allowing a true conservtive and nationalist voice to shine through this new party

This speach announced that the Labour Party would change its name to the Conservative Labour Party. Shortly after the new party announced Navy Blue would be its new colour and a logo was shown. The party is expected to propose new laws very soon in the SEnate showing how it has become truly Conservative.

General and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Luther Herrington today informed Likatonians and the world that he would be assuming the new post of 'Secretary of General Affairs' for the duration of what the military has called a 'national reorganisation process', having deposed President John Smith last night. In his address to the nation via the country's Emergency Broadcast System the general emphasised the new government's commitment to "the full resumption of multi-party democracy as soon as feasible" and the holding of free and fair elections, appealing to widespread discontent with the dominant, all-encompassing coalitions, personality-based factions, and accompanying legislative gridlock that have all marked Likatonian politics since the collapse of the neo-fascist Black Sun regime.

Forces loyal to the elected government initially attempted to resist the overthrow, drawing back to Capitol Hill in Clovisport where the Senate briefly convened and issued a token denouncement of the "illegal coup" as fighter jets flew overhead, but upon being surrounded and learning of their comrades' near-unanimous support for the putsch laid down their arms and surrendered. Legislators and executive officials fled to foreign embassies to seek refuge, while the president himself is believed to have absconded directly to neighbouring Valruzia.

This is the first time in Likatonia's history that the military has intervened in such a manner; one of the North Seleyan countries where the armed forces are expected to be strictly apolitical and civilian control of the military is prized above all else, the very act has long been considered unthinkable, with even Frank Bochette of the neo-fascist Black Sun being brought down by mass civil disobedience and the military merely privately advising him to 'consider his position' when events were already well underway and demands for the army to open fire on demonstrators had gone ignored. Notably, while at the time only a major, Herrington was reported to have led failed efforts to prevent Bochette's inauguration over allegations of widespread, unconstitutional electoral fraud and voter intimidation. Perhaps keen to avoid setting an example for less politically neutral officers of the future to follow, Herrington rejected any political explanation for the coup.

"At a time when this nation needs courage, squabbling senators have been too busy focusing on trivialities to provide it. We must set aside all political differences, and work instead on the challenge of rebuilding the trust of the people in their leaders. I will do my best, but I will not do it alone. Let your voice be heard. Whenever you have a chance, say something good about our country. With God's help and for the sake of our nation, it is time for us to join hands in Likatonia. Let us commit ourselves together to a rebirth of the Likatonian spirit. Working together with our common faith we cannot fail."

"Likatonia is a country with sharp divides, culturally and materially, between the politically powerful cities and its impoverished rural hinterland. Herrington comes from rural East Bolton, albeit with a more fortunate background than many in the region," said Jonathan Burke, lecturer in North Seleyan studies at the University of Bamburgh. "Although reports of his frustration with the machinations of Likatonia's political class have long circulated, he has only clashed openly with them recently, over the escalating situation in Lodamun to the east which the Smith presidency was indifferent to."

The Pirland-Keymon ferry, dormant for the past thirty years since the Black Sun regime came to power in 4975, was reopened today by Secretary of General Affairs and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Herrington together with Keymonite minister-president Dr. Jacques Kirscht. The two leaders met in Chester, Pirland for the ceremony, holding a joint press conference afterwards in which the pair expressed their hopes that the resumption of the ferry service would mark "the beginning of a new chapter in Keymonite-Likatonian relations."

The relationship between Likatonia and Keymon has in the past been cool at best. Even before the ferry was shut down in 4975, it had previously been suspended in 4947, for what the foreign ministry under Steve Wallace of the Progressive Republican Party at the time insisted was a month-long period of "maintenance and upgrading", but which turned into an eleven-year hiatus until its eventual restoration in 4958.

"The truth of the matter is that the government was simply being spiteful, childish, and stuck in the past by over a century, holding a grudge over Keymon's historical claims to Pirland under the UPF, despite the Social Democrats officially renouncing any such claims and embracing pacifism when they came to power and established the Second Republic. We saw the same thing with Samantha Elizabeth's monumental gaffe in 4883, where she took a question from some crazed OLNN wingnut and fell hook, line, and sinker for nonsense about the 'warmongering policies' of a nation that had disbanded its standing military," said Al Byrd, lecturer in contemporary Likatonian history at East Bolton University.

Clovisport Protest Cracked Down, Patriots Resist; July 5032

Freedom Protesters in Clovisport met with the Jackboots and Tear Gas of the Military State

Clovisport: Protesters came out in force over this past weekend, marching in the streets of Clovisport and several other major cities across the Republic. Their qualms? The continued existence of the repressive military junta of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Their demands? Liberty. Crowding in the centers of the Likatonian nation, these protesters have demanded the abolition of the military state and the resumption of of liberty and democracy. For two days the military top brass allowed these demonstrations to fester before they decided their honor had become too tarnished and that the Likatonian populace had lost its complacency. The Joint Chiefs of Staff unleashed their bulls and gave the order to riot police to bruise up the patriotic protesters and suppress the spirit of freedom in the demonstrators. In their first aim, using tear gas and bludgeons (and some reports suggest the use of live ammunition), police across the nation were successful in bloodying thousands of their countrymen, and with reports suggesting dozens being killed. In their second aim, they were less successful.

Since riot police have begun their campaign against the protesters, patriots across Likatonia have begun to rally around the cause of liberty and redouble their efforts against the military tyranny. Those already in the streets have not ceased their battle, with many continuing to endure the violent repression and some even choosing to fight back against the police. Trade unions, legal and underground, across the nation have declared their support for the protesters and have worked in tandem in calling a national general strike. Michael Ferris-Rodrigo, the chair of the Pirland Dock Workers Union, said to Samizdat Likatonia reporters "the treatment of protesters is repulsive. Likatonia used to be a land of liberty and democracy, but for decades we have seen our people under assault by military and fascist regimes. This has to end. The PDWU has gone on strike with many comrades across the nation, and we'll stay on strike until dissidents are treated humanely and with respect." Native Likatonian groups have also come out against the military government, calling for autonomy to Native Likatonians and liberty for the entirety of the country.

Many anti-government groups have coalesced around the Citizen's Defense Council, a big-tent underground organization that has sought to unite dissidence against the government. The CDC has been denounced by the military government as being militant anarchists and extremist terrorists, however Chairman of the CDC James Joad has rejected this characterization. "We want liberty," Joad told reporters "and we want freedom. We want freedom from the military and from the state. Most of all, we want to live in peace and with the basic human right to do as we please and govern ourselves without and army boot pressed against our throats. And we are willing to fight for that liberty. To be human is to be free, and if we are not free than we are not fully human. This government wishes to make us unfree and inhuman. It must be stopped." The CDC is rumored to have united under its command several or even dozens of militias, staffed with men and women willing to fight for liberty and armed with an untold amount of stockpiled weapons.

Clovisport - In the warm summer month of June, 5053 representatives from across Likatonia came together and determined that Likatonia would no longer be the vassal of disorder, corruption and lawlessness and founded the "Independence Party". The meeting of delegates from across Likatonia elected Dexter Jordan, a lawyer and Assistant District Attorney in Clovisport as their candidate for the Presidency in Likatonia. At this same time, the elected Kailee Daniels as his running mate for the Presidential ticket. Daniels, an accomplished CEO of Sun Enterprises, a conglomerate that specializes in a wide variety of consumer products. At the same token they came together and forged the "Constitution of the Confederated States of Likatonia", a document which promises a new direction for the country. Over the past several months they have garnered popular support for a snap election, a rare happening in the country and have claimed that the Social Democrats that run the country are corrupt and inept, unable to lead the country into the new era. According to reports from the government, elections have been planned for September, 5053 and the Independence Party has become determined to run and has registered according to national election officials. The new constitution that has garnered wide support with the Likatonian people will foster the country into a democratic Presidential republic, something that the Likatonian people have had in the past.

A number of people in Likatonia have come out in support of the Independence Party including many business and industrialist within the country, notable those that have pushed the government for more action on the devastated economy of the country. Meghan Farmer, the Independence Party's candidate for a finance role, is the President of the National Business Association, an organization dedicated to the promotion of businesses of all sizes and pro-business politics. The NBA was founded several years ago in the wake of continued economic difficulties throughout the country and has built a 25m Likath fund to support businesses of all sizes. One of the primary focuses of the Independence Party and Presidential candidate Dexter Jordan is the development of the "New Era" of Likatonia in which the cultivation of the nations powerful agricultural resources can be leveraged and turned into continued growth for the entire country.

Clovisport - Elections for the head of state and House of Representatives of Likatonia were held on August 31st with the sole registered political party being the Independence Party. At the head of the ticket was Dexter Jordan, the new head of state of Likatonia who has proclaimed the provisional Confederated States of Likatonia and been named as interim President of the Confederated States of Liktatonia. The new Jordan administration has ushered in what President Jordan has called the "New Era" for Likatonia and has immediately hit the ground running in the first weeks since the election. President Jordan has tapped close ally and political advisor Markus Hess as Chief of Staff and tasked him and Vice President Kailee Daniels with focusing on domestic affairs and re-building civil government infrastructure following decades of mismanagement and corruption. Following the hasty inauguration, President Jordan met with the five new elected Governors of the states and at length discussed with them a number of plans to rebuild their local economies. Governor Liam Carr of Norwalk and the President spoke at length, President Jordan hailing from the Plainwater suburb of North Bend, Norwalk. Norwalk is the largest state in the new Confederated States and hosts the largest number of industrial businesses and manufacturers within the nation; a focal point to the "New Era" of Likatonia.
