Christian III dies; Oskar IV the new King
March 11, 5237

The United Kingdoms were in mourning today as news of the King's death spread. Most were not surprised, as rumours about the deteriorating health of the 82 year-old King had abounded for some time, but the news was greeted with dismay nonetheless. The tolling of church bells could be heard across Davostag-Kivonia, and the Prime Minister's office has given instructions that all government departments are to observe a minute of silence as well as fly their flags at half mast for the duration of one week's official mourning ahead of the state funeral.

The hitherto Crown Prince Oskar, who has now acceded to the throne as King Oskar IV, will give a short televised address to pay tribute to his father and offer words of encouragement to his new subjects.

SOCIALISM ON THE RISE
A new left-wing force is rising on the Davostani political scene and landscape. A force declaring itself for a greater destiny
of the nation. A force organized into the political party of the Democratic Nationalist Party, DNP, seeking greater social welfare
and national unity in the realm of the Davostanis and Kivonians.

Carl Fylking in Långstad January 5318

Sankt Christiansberg, Kivonien - In the city located as the center of the landskap of Kivonien, the core region of the Kivonian people, a mass rally is held where the newly established Demokratiska Nationalistpartiet ("Democratic Nationalist Party") proclaims its mission to the people of the United Kingdom. "We are together as one", the confident young man centering the stage before the thousands of young men, women and children. He speaks of the two peoples of the realm. And he declares that fate has sought it so that the Davostanis and Kivonians live under one roof. This young man named Carl-Johan Fylking, more commonly called Carl Fylking and nicknamed Calle Fylking. He is the chairman of the DNP and a staunch promoter of an egalitarian society. This pure Kivonian from the ancient aristocratic Clan Fylking has pledged himself as one with the commonfolk. "But it is the duty of every hardened socialist of this nation to love that nation ... a nationalist can only be a socialist, and a socialist can only be a nationalist" he says. The message is clear of what the DNP seeks. To bring equality to all citizens and instill that equal measure into national pride.

"This city, which we now stand, was once a beautiful center of culture and prosperity. It once held the proud name of the greatest Kivonian who ever lived and now stands to honor a misguided royalty", Fylking continues to sing the praises of historic Davostanis and Kivonians who shaped the country we now live in. And this is not the only criticism he has for the monarchy currently ruling Davostan-Kivonia – he also declared that any and all powers that remain with the king be completely transferred to the Riksdag. But despite his criticism he has stated that as long as the monarchy remains absolute in its capabilities to be impartial, the DNP will not actively seek the establishment of a republic.

The DNP stated its core election manifesto to be as following:
- To immediately nationalize the military, energy, mining, and other vital sectors of the nation;
- To immediately begin a socialization of the market to promote equality and fairness, while preserving its freedom for the private sector;
- To immediately socialize big business and upper-classes to conform to the interests of society and nation without stripping essential freedoms;
- To immediately begin a crackdown on any and all organized crime within Davostan and Kivonia;
- To immediately promote the cultural and social values and traditions of the Davostani and Kivonian people;
- To immediately establish a commission to pursue vital historical points of both Davostanis and Kivonians;
- To immediately establish a commission to draft a complete democratic, social and corporatist constitution for the nation;
- To immediately form a 'corporatist'-state organ to begin the process of transforming the country into a complete corporatist-state;

ELECTION RESULTS SPARKS PROTESTS
An intense election night finally brought in the results for the Riksdag. The National Union Party remains in majority and
the new political force that had gained momentum made an astonishing result and gained a large portion of the seats.
Despite a good parliamentary run it remains a controversial one and mass protests have now begun.

Protests in the city of Vermillion

Vermillion, Östraland - The election results were a shock to the people and most likely a relief to the ruling National Union Party. The NUP managed to gather three of the five Landskap (regions), these being Dovmark, Sønderhavn and Kovmark, with a total of 7,398,000 votes. While the newly formed Democratic Nationalist Party won the Landskap of Bindeborg and Östraland, with an astounding 17,808,000 votes, that is 70.65%. In a normal functioning democracy this would have resulted in the DNP gathering a landslide victory with control of a supermajority in the Riksdag, but instead the current electoral legislation has in a way – most likely unintentionally – rigged the system in favor of the ruling party. The Party Chancellery of the DNP quickly announced in the electoral aftermath that an emergency strategy meeting was to be held with the entire party leadership to determine the best course of action.

During a press conference on the 20th of April, party chairman and now member of the Riksdag, Carl Fylking announced that he had laid forward a motion of statement in the Riksdag to gather the support of the NUP in a national coalition government that stands true to the popular will. He also stated that the DNP will the coming months promote, organize and lead a protest movement in favor of electoral reform, to democratize the system. He has also begun a draft for such a reform and will wait until the NUP has decided to give their support for it. The reform protest continues till this day and shows no sign of giving up. Fylking was also asked whether he plans to enter the proposed coalition government himself and if so in what capacity, on which he answered that only the most competent should hold the position they are given.

PLANNED GOVERNMENT REFORMS SPARKS PROTESTS
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Kivonia, Kovmark - With the government announcement last week of several proposed legislation that would further the economic interest and stability for the Davostani population, while limiting such interests for Kivonians – something the government seems to have based on the Kivonian inclination toward more regulated policies and focus on social issues – an outcry from the latter people has arisen. The government gave other proposals that would increasingly segregate the Kivonians with greater liberal freedoms – something that both Davostagian groups have expressed discontent with, backfiring on the intentions of the government which hoped to appease both groups. This discontent has led to several thousands protesting the streets. Experts have determined that of these proposals, the Kivonians will be the ones most negatively affected, hence why we now can see hundreds of thousands of Kivonians striking from their workplace.

The protests have been especially severe in Sankt Christiansberg, Vermillion and the capital Kivonia, which are one of the more important centers of the Kivonian people. The police have given reports showing that the younger adults and older teenagers are the main perpetrators of the increasing vandalism, with reports from the Armed Forces showing a rapid increase of Kivonian youth enlisting, something the Security Agencies have taken note of in suspicion of ulterior motives. Davostani counter protesters have taken to violently clashing with their ethnic counterparts. The emergency agencies have stated that hundreds have been injured and a number of five people killed.

Reports are coming in that the government will hold a press conference to address the rising social tensions and whether they will withdraw any of their proposals or issue more. Several members of the Riksdag (parliament) have expressed their sympathy and support to the protesters, while the mayor of Sankt Christansberg, Erik Fälthavre, has declared the city on the side of the protesters and encouraged them to take more radical actions against the national government agencies.

GOVERNMENT PROPOSES FEDERALIZATION TO COMBAT DIVISIONS
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Kivonia, Kovmark - Shockingly, during yesterday's government press conference, Prime Minister Fylking announced that his cabinet would seek radical reform to federalize the entire nation between the old federal states of Davostan and Kivonia that existed during the Union of Davostan and Kivonia (4796–5071). This announcement did not bode well for the prime minister and the government as the Kivonian protesters have only increased their violent attacks on government agencies and public buildings, while the Davostanis have more or less rallied behind the government in support of their federal reforms.

The vocal mayor of Sankt Christansberg, Erik Fälthavre, who sided with the protesters have now come out to openly denounce the government in Kivonia – something the politicians in Vermillion as well as the leadership of the Vermillion University have supported. With some professors calling on the military to intervene, to quote “save the fatherland”. This calling upon the military is not only coming from the scholarly side of society, but there is an increasing voice within the armed forces to do just that. A member of the Riksdag commented that a high ranking officer within the army has threatened the prime minister with resignation unless these reforms are withdrawn.
At the moment the police in mostly Davostani populated areas have severely crackdown on the protesters, with an estimated five hundred arrested and a thousand injured. In the city of Långstad, Kivonian protesters attacked and occupied a local police station arming themselves, in response the government authorities severely crackdown on the insurgents with several deaths ensuing. Where these events are heading is hard to determine, but it seems that the country is facing a gruesome political split that could affect Davostag for decades to come.

His Majesty King Gustav II Issues Emergency Statement in Response to Domestic Disturbances

Image
The King speaking at the meeting.

Kivonia, Kovmark - The United Kingdom is facing social unrest for few weeks due to the policies promoted by Prime Minister Carl Johan Fylking. Protests have been ongoing against various policies by the current administration, claiming that they are promoting social and economic discrimination against Kivonians. In addition, the federalization of the country promoted by the current administration has provoked further opposition from them who mainly value their traditions, leading to large-scale protests and violence in the southern capital cities of Kivonia, St. Christiansburg, and Vermillion, where they constitute the majority of the population. In the morning of December 6, the Royal Palace Office issued an emergency statement. His Majesty King Gustav II summoned his ministers to the Lilltorp Palace to try to bring the situation under control, and in the afternoon he delivered the following speech on television and radio:
I stand before you today not only as your King, but also as a man of the same country and as a humble servant of the people, fighting the unrest that is sweeping over our beloved nation. The voices of change are spreading and the path we must take is colored by unprecedented challenges. It is at times like these that we must come together as one, drawing strength from the traditions and solidarity we possess, to face the uncertainties that lie ahead. At this morning's ministerial meeting, I instructed the Prime Minister to work quickly to resolve the situation. We must commit to the values that define us as a nation: justice, freedom, and equality. Together, let us overcome our differences, heal the wounds of division, respect all voices, and work toward a society where all people are valued and all lives are cherished. May we move forward hand in hand, with empathy and understanding, toward a brighter and more inclusive future. May He bless and protect us all.

The King's instructions to immediately resolve the situation, including statements to the effect of acting as a mediator between the two factions, have been questioned by some. Military and political commentators in the country fear that the escalation of the situation, including more Kivonians joining the army and attacks on government facilities, could lead to a civil war.

MILITARY REBELS TAKE CONTROL OF MAJOR CITY
________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Davostagian Kivonian military rebels putting up a roadblock in Saint Christansburg.

Saint Christiansburg, Kovmark - Early yesterday morning the 3rd Infantry division together with the 3rd Armored division took control of Saint Christiansburg and declared military opposition to the national government. These insurrectionists have stated that the government in the capital Kivonia has lost its mandate to properly govern the nation and its citizens, blaming them for the supposed rise in crime – something several experts have debunked as propaganda – and the rise in discrimination of Kivonians by Davostanis, not only by government policy but by everyday life. Consequently soon after several other prominent Kivonian officers and their divisions, such as the 1st Mountain Infrantry Division as well as the 1st and 2nd Mechanized Regiments of the 1st Mechanized Infantry Division, declared for the rebels. The officers of the rogue soldiers took the opportunity to meet this morning in the outskirts of Saint Christansburg where they officially formed the so-called Militärmyndighetens Frälsningsråd (“Military Authority Salvation Council”), with General Anders Hagberg leading them on. At the same time, they also published a manifesto, stating their intentions as:
... a demonstration against the oppressive regime that barbarically murdered our brothers in Långstad, in their honor we fight for national and state centrality, unity and freedom.

In more concrete terms, they have stated their demands to be the immediate withdrawal of the national government's work towards federalization, economic segregation and general promotion of pro-Davostani policies, as well as the formation of a new legislative assembly of equal representation of both Davostanis and Kivonians with extensive veto power over the Riksdag (parliament). The rebels have as well demanded that not only should the government abandon the notion of federalism in its entirety but reverse and centralize authority even further, holding on to the old Kivonian belief that central authority over a Davostani-Kivonian nation-state is the only possible way forward towards prosperous unity.

With the chaos spreading as wildfire, the pro-Kivonian rebels have been publicly endorsed by Kivonian nationalists, republicans, reinhardtists and national-salvationists, as well as the Davostagian academic world, and have been labeled the Centralists (or Centrals) – while the pro-Davostani government popularized on the internet as the Federalists (or Federals), with support from various political groups and organizations representing Davostani nationalists, separatists and monarchists. The ruling Democratic Nationalist Party is seeing a rising split between these two factions.

The Prime Minister immediately denounced the insurrection as an "archaic foolery", stating that the Kivonians should have moved on from this way of demonstration with the Davostagian Revolution of 4792. The national government also quickly announced an emergency session of the Riksdag tomorrow morning where they would see to it to address the crisis and find a way for a peaceful resolution and open up dialogue with the Centralists. Around the same time there came reports from the Security Agencies that discontent and sympathy were given to the rebels from within the common soldiers as well as from officers from all parts of the Armed Forces. Also from the National Statistics Bureau a poll was conducted where it was reported that about 47% of Davostanis support the Federalist government, 16% support/sympathize with the Centralist rebels and 37% are either unsure or support neither; while on the other hand 8% of Kivonians support the Federalist government, 56% support/sympathize with the Centralist rebels and 36% are unsure or support neither.

TENSIONS ESCALATE WITH PRIME MINISTER'S RIKSDAG FOLLY
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Kivonia, Kovmark - This morning the Riksdag and government held an emergency session to discuss the crisis of the self-proclaimed Military Authority Salvation Council and its military insurrection in the city of Saint Christansburg. The session is for the sake to defuse the situation and reach a peaceful conclusion, however, despite this seemingly simple intention the government announced the nation in an emergency state and mobilized primarily Davostani dominated divisions of the Armed Forces, an act that has not been viewed positively by either the MASC, the Kivonian protesters, or ethnic Kivonian soldiers within the military. The move was criticized by members of the Riksdag who have said that it only helps escalate tensions and proves the Centralists correct on the matter of discrimination.
Several motions were put forward by Riksdag members to solve the issue, but a majority agree that the government should immediately halt any work on its economic and social reforms and to abandon the federalization proposals entirely. Shockingly, not only did Prime Minister Fylking refuse these motions but went on to have a fit and aggressively berate the Riksdag calling them "bendovers" to domestic terrorists "to be railed while groveling like dogs", which caused an absolute outrage in the assembly with 169 members leaving while the Prime Minister were shouting "traitors" and threatened with arrests. Of the 275 members, only 106 members remained. The Prime Minister went on to hold a long speech about the importance to "militantly defend" their democracy. A motion was approved by the remaining members declaring that the absent deputies were to be stripped of their legislative responsibilities, as well as declaring the 106 member Riksdag a "State Emergency Council", which is usually declared in a state of war. The Prime Minister went on saying that agreeing to the rebels' demands would only show the world that the government of Davostag is weak and unable to manage the state and society in the face of terrorist threats.

Some of the absent Riksdag members went to join the rebels in Saint Christansburg, while others have gone to the Centralist sympathetic city of Vermillion. Most other of the absentees have spread out and decided to wait out the current crisis, but some is reported to have grouped together in Eliseborg in preperation for the future. In the officers corp of the Armed Forces, a third is showing clear sympathies to the rebels, especially after the Prime Minister's moment of madness in the Riksdag. The Army General Staff has currently reported that communication with several army divisions and regiments have been lost, growing the suspicions that they too might have gone rogue; in this case it refers to the 5th Armored Division, 2nd Infantry Division, and the 1st Artillery Regiment and 1st Mountain Infantry Regiment of the 1st Infantry Division, these originally being stationed around Nyberg, Saint Erwinsburg and Knivby respectively. From the reports it seems that the Army is clearly where the political division within the military lies, while the Navy and Air Force have reportedly remained somewhat neutral. On the advise from the government, the independent three Royal Guard Divisions were put on alert and are now in charge of the general security around the capital city, these divisions report directly to the King and the Royal Family.

The MASC have through extensive communication organized Centralists supporters among the Kivonian protesters in cities and towns across the Kivonian lands, where most have formed so-called "Political Centrals" (Polcel), a type of populist authority council to lead local supporters and militias – the polcels is reportedly making noise and causing even more riots, the government have tried to get rid of these formations but it would seem that police in the Kivonian population centers are more inclined to side with them. While in Vermillion, and its globally recognized prestigious university, a denouncement was made against the government after the Prime Minister's Riksdag folly where they made it very clear that that there needed to be a radical change in the country, and that they put their hope to the Kivonian rebels. Among one of these University professors is the University rector Elias Kresten Kofod Dahl, also known as Elias K.K. Dahl, or simply Elias Kofod, who is a professor in political science, history, literature and philosophy, who has published hundreds of political essays describing several contemporary issues. It is reported that Kofod is to release a short essay in regards to the crisis soon, something that could help shape public opinion. Professor Kofod has also stated that MASC should focus on making a decisive march on Kivonia – in other words a coup d'état – instead of dragging the situation on while polarizing the country with the polcels, something he believes could result in a civil war, a future Ny Horisont mentioned.
