Revolutionary Calendar, Year 91, Blomstermåned 4 | 4 March 4887
National Convention introduces a new official national calendarThe National Convention have now begun to vote on a radical proposal by the Ministry of Culture and Education, which will introduce the Union's very own calendar, beginning on the date of the Union's foundation. All months have been renamed to seasonal characteristics or popular historic figures. The reason for the implementation of this calendar, is to give a signal of complete independence and national sovereignty from outside foreign powers.________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Kivonia, Kovmark - The act known as the
Introduction of the Revolutionary Calendar of the Union are now being voted on in the National Convention to be approved. This calendar was designed at the request of the Ministry of Culture and Education, their historical justification claims that this calendar was said to have been suggested by prominent revolutionaries during the Davostani Revolution, however, due to the flame of the revolution being "extinguished" just before the foundation of the Union, the idea was generally forgotten. However, in recent times a romanticist movement celebrating the revolution has begun to flourish around the Union, and the idea of our own calendar would signal total independence from outside powers. This new calendar is expected to be approved on the 1st of December 4887, or as said in the new calendar – as we will explain – it is expected to be approved on the U.G. Year 91, Kejsarmåned 1.
The "Revolutionary Calendar" does not change the numbers of days in a year, a month, or a week, but rather the calendar is to start on the 1st June 4796, the day of the foundation of the Union. Not only that, but all of the twelve months of the year has been renamed either to their seasonal characteristics or in honor to a popular historic figure. The months in order are: Elismåned (January), named after Elise Reinhardt, First Consul of the New Kivonian Republic; Evylinmåned (February), named after Evylin I Ashé-Rivières, Noble Princeps of the New Kivonian Republic; Vårmåned (March), named after the season of spring; Gräsmåned (April), named after the grass of spring; Blomstermåned (May), named after the flowers that blossoms during this month; Solmåned (June), named after the sun which shines the brightest during this month, another unofficial name of the month is Unionsmåned, in honor of the foundation of the Union, the decision to choose "sun" also represents that all in the nation revolves around the Union; Skördemåned (July), named after the large harvest of the month, its unofficial name is also Erwinmåned, in honor of Erwin Reinhardt, the Saint of Salvation; Äremåned (August), named after August Reinhardt, Dictator of the Kivonian Republic, as his name "August" means "venerable" and venerable translates to "Ära" in Kivonian, the alternative name of the month is Augustmåned; Segermåned (September), named after Viktoria Reinhardt, Unionite ruler (Sovereign) of the Union, as her name "Viktoria" means "victory" and victory translates to "Seger" in Kivonian, the alternative name of the month is Viktoriamåned; Höstmåned (October), named after the season of autumn; Folkmåned (November), named after the people of the nation in honor for their commitment of beginning the Davostani Revolution; Kejsarmåned (December), named in honor of the Kivonian Empire and Emperors who were founded and crowned respectively during this month, the unofficial name of the month is Oskarsmåned, in honor of the two Emperors Oskar I and Oskar II who began their reigns during this month.
The calendar also introduces the characteristic that during the 60th year of a calendar's century – also dubbed revolutionary century – the name of the month of Skördemåned (July) is renamed "Frälsningsmåned", in honor of Erwin Reinhardt, the Saint of Salvation in Davostan; but also, the 90th year of a revolutionary century, the name of the month of Folkmåned (November) is renamed "Revolutionsmåned" in honor of the Davostani Revolution; their original names of Skördemåned and Folkmåned returns at the beginning of the next year until the next 60th and 90th years of a revolutionary century. When displaying the dates of the calendar, for example the date "1st June 4796" is displayed like "U.G. Year 1, Solmåned 1", another way to display it is like this "Revolutionary Calendar, Year 1, Solmåned 1", or to only display the year one can do it like this "1 U.G.". The "U.G." is an abbreviation for "Unionen Grundlagdes", which means in both Davostani and Kivonian "the Union was founded". Alternative abbreviation could be "U.C.E." for "et Unionis condita est", which holds the same meaning as "U.G.", or one could use "U.R.K." for "Unionens Revolutionäre Kalender/Unionens Revolutionære Kalender", which means "Revolutionary Calendar of the Union", or simply "R.K." for "Revolutionære Kalender/Revolutionäre Kalender", which means "Revolutionary Calendar".
Another part of the Revolutionary Calendar, is that the U.G. Year 1 is only seven months, or 214 days, as it began on the midnight of the 1st June 4796, and ended on the midnight of the 1st January 4797. The common calendar, most commonly used around Terra, can be used before U.G. Year 1. However, the Revolutionary Calendar – at the choice of its user – can be used before U.G. Year 1, in that case it will count in reverse, thus the term "Inden/Innan Unionen" or "I.U." is used, and I.U. Year 1 began on the midnight of the 1st January 4796, and ended on the midnight of the 1st June 4796 (U.G. Year 1, Solmåned 1). Years such as 4795 will be known as I.U. Year 2; and 4794 will be known as I.U. Year 3; and 4793 will be known as I.U. Year 4; etc. Thus the I.U. Year 1 is only five months, or 151 days. Otherwise, nothing else has changed, leap years continues to be used and the various numbers in the months are still the same. Thus we end this article by proudly being the first to use the Revolutionary calendar in an official usage.
